Chapter 2
I walked out of the office and my colleague from the product selection team pulled me aside.
He whispered, "Is Silas going to fire you?"
I nodded.
He guessed it right.
He appeared concerned.
He said, "Oh my god! No way!"
"Last time, I reminded you to clock in, you didn't take it seriously. I thought you would never be laid off."
"It's probably because of that banquet when he touched your thigh and you reported him."
At his words, memories flooded back.
At the last company banquet, Silas represented the branch, accompanied by numerous executives from the company headquarters.
Being one of the most exceptional employees at the branch, I was seated at a prominent table.
Silas sat next to me, but he was not behaving properly.
At first, he touched my calf intentionally or not.
Later, his hand moved to my thighs, causing me discomfort.
I was unable to tolerate it, so I stood up directly.
"Mr. Wallace, if you don't know how to put your hands in the right place, I can help you."
With that, I raised his hand and placed it on Victor Richards, the president of the headquarters seated nearby.
The usually aloof Victor's face darkened.
Silas withdrew his hand and apologized awkwardly.
But he held a grudge against me.
So he laid me off because of this.
His private misconduct was one thing, but he affected the company's interests.
Time would reveal the outcome.
Meanwhile, Hannah, the new streamer brought by Silas, observed the situation with interest.
She lowered her voice and said gently, "Ms. Roberts, enjoy your layoff. I'll take your fans."
"I think you're just too rigid."
I retorted, "You're not bad. You utilize your feminine charm."
"Just scream louder. It's more effective."
I glanced at her.
She had a nice figure and a bright face, looking quite beautiful.
It was a pity that she had a bad character, aiming to advance using her body.
Also, her work ethic didn't align with the brand's values.
I built up the company's live stream account step by step, understanding their preferences well.
They appreciated a sincere, relatable sisterly figure, not someone like Hannah, who exuded a different vibe.
Since I wasn't stream, I decided to assess behind the scenes to see if Hannah was capable of replacing me.
My colleague whispered, "It is said that Hannah has something to do with Silas."
Another one.
This company was going to finish.
I was halfway through writing the handover document when the lights suddenly came on.
The livestream had begun.
As the livestream started, many viewers came to greet me.
Some even noticed that I wasn't show up and asked about my whereabouts.
"Is this the new assistant? She looks pretty good."
"Where's Lucille?"
Hannah didn't have stage fright and greeted everyone in a sweet voice.
"I will show you products in the live stream from now on. Lucille needs to take a break for a while."
Her voice might be effective against Silas, but it appeared pretentious to the discerning online audience.
"I want Lucille," one viewer commented.
"This woman's voice is disgusting."
"I won't watch it without Lucille," another added.
Hannah felt embarrassed and quickly introduce the products.
But she didn't participate in the product selection.
She could only introduce it from the appearance and general functions.
When I was live streaming in the past, I emphasized special product functions, highlights, and practical buying tips.
But Hannah got a little panicked when she saw that no one placed an order.
"Everyone, hurry up and place your order. How much money can you save if you don't buy it?"
"Is it expensive? It's not. Maybe you should reflect on your salary."
"It has always been this price. Who can't afford it can leave now."
The assistant had been quietly kicking her from below, but she remained oblivious.
Her remarks shocked viewers.
"Poor people are not worthy of buying it, right?"
"Even if I am poor, it is not your place to judge."
"How did this live stream become like this? I'll unfollow it."
Within half an hour, Hannah lost twenty thousand viewers.
The person in charge swiftly intervened, replacing her with assistant.
Hannah stamped her feet in anger.
"Did I say anything wrong? They can't afford a pair of socks worth only 8 dollars. Can't they find out the reason themselves?"
It was evident she lacked empathy for those less fortunate.
Chapter 3
8 dollars for a sock was worth a week's food expenses for many people.
The person in charge educated her, but she showed no remorse.
Instead, she shifted the blame to me.
"It's because Ms. Roberts didn't hand it over to me. I used to do livestream like this. How would I know? You should talk to her."
"I'm just a newbie. What do I know?"
I just finished writing the handover document on my computer.
I ran to print it out and threw it in her face directly.
"Here's the handover you wanted."
She had never suffered such humiliation before, and her eyes turned red instantly.
"Lucille, what do you mean?"
Her voice was so loud that all the fans in the live stream could hear it.
The chat erupted with discussions.
"Wow, the new streamer and Lucille had a clash? I'm with Lucille on this."
This live stream had the lowest sales in the past six months.
It only sold 20,000 dollars and lost 90,000 fans.
The brand sought an explanation from Silas, who shifted the blame onto me.
"There's nothing wrong with the company. The problem is Lucille."
I contacted many of the brands myself.
Some brands inquired about the situation.
I told my partners everything about how I was forced to resign from the company.
One of the partners offered to double my salary to join their company.
Others suggested I go solo and offered support.
I had an extensive network, gathering support from many.
I couldn't believe I had to endure this mistreatment at this company.
I wanted to clear my way out.
The next day, I took the handover documents directly to Silas's office.
As I entered, he still had his legs crossed, looking relaxed.
"Why are you still here? Pack up and leave."
I smiled and placed the handover documents in front of him.
There were cursing emoticons below.
"Why give it to me? Are you regret?"
He chuckled, looking obscene.
"How about this? If you entertain me, I will let you stay."
"You should learn from Hannah. I'll raise your salary."
I burst out laughing.
"You wish!"
"You are so ugly!"
"Don't ever call me and beg me next time."
I left after those words.
He threw my handover report towards the door.
Accidentally, the emoticons I printed out were flying in the sky.
The person in the painting gave him a firm middle finger.
Silas was furious, shouting, "Bitch, even if you come to beg me, I'd feel disgusting!"
His curse words echoed throughout the office.
Every one knew the company's top seller was laid off.
Even the top seller could be laid off, let alone ordinary employees.
The office fell into silence.
The company and Hannah trended online.
Hannah's words during the livestream put the company into the center of public opinion.
When I walked out of the office, I happened to see Silas's friend scolding him.
There was one sentence in it that I heard very clearly, "Hurry and find Lucille back."
Silas lowered his head and said, "I have already let her go."
The sound of the president's cup slamming followed.
I took all the resignation documents and made a face at him.
Then I headed home.
Silas, let's see if you come begging next.
I picked up my phone and sent a message to the fan group.
"My dears, catch my live stream on my new channel tomorrow at 8 p.m. See you there."
