Chapter 1
On the way of spring outing, the car broke down on the winding mountain road.
I had sprained my ankle, but Charles Smith left me alone in the mountains and accompanied his childhood sweet heart to find help.
I got lost in the misty mountains and almost fell off the cliff.
The next day, the villagers who went into deep mountains to find herbal medicine found me, who was on the verge of death, but Charles didn't get back to save me until then.
When I woke up, I saw his childhood sweetheart showing off their affection on her Instagram.
"So what if it's eight years of love? True love won't be replaced!"
I had been in love with Charles for eight years, then I suddenly lose my love of him.
Since you like him, I'll give him, a second-hand man that I don't want anymore.
——
I struggled to open my eyes in the emergency room.
Before the doctor could say something to me, Charles asked the doctor in an indifferent tone.
"Sibyl Austin, why did you pretend to fall off the cliff to threaten me just because I accompanied Flora back to the city first?"
"How many times have I told you? As for me, Flora is my younger sister. Can you not misunderstand our relationship?"
Charles stared at me coldly, his expression was full of disgust.
Thinking of the wonderful spring outing, I still had a lingering fear.
Charles and I had planned to take a vacation together.
Before we set off, Charles's childhood sweetheart, Flora, suddenly wanted to go with us.
Although I was reluctant, I didn't want to spoil the mood, so I agreed to take her with us.
Unexpectedly, when the car was driven on a winding road, it suddenly broke down.
There was no signal in the deep mountains, and there were few cars passing by on this road.
We searched on the map and find that there was a mountain village nearly, we decided to go through the forest and ask the villagers for help.
All of a sudden, the mountain was filled with fog so we lost our way.
What was even more unfortunate was that I sprained my ankle.
Charles said that he could not take me who could not walk by myself to find the village across the forest and left me alone in the mountains .
He accompanied his childhood sweetheart to find help, saying that he would come back to help me when he found help.
I waited for him until late at night. From time to time, terrifying beast roars from the forest could be heard.
I didn't dare to wait any longer. I limped forward with great difficulty.
However, I fell off the cliff. Fortunately, a small tree caught me.
I climbed up covering in wounds. After exhausting all my energy, I passed out because of losing temperature.
Until the next morning, a villager who went into the mountains to collect herbal medicine find me.
"They helped me contact the rescue team. Only then did I manage to survive.
But now, Charles thought that it was me who had pretended to fall off the cliff to threaten him.
"Charles, I didn't... I really..."
As soon as I wanted to explain to him, I realized that my voice was extremely hoarse.
"All right! Don't put on airs if you're not dead. I will leave to take care of Flora. Take care of yourself."
After saying that impatiently, Charles walked out without looking back.
His back disappeared in my sight. I could no longer hold back my tears.
I've been in love for him and done everything for him for eight years and tried my best to pursue him.
Three years in high school, four years in college, one year in work, a total of eight years.
Under the opposition of everyone around me, I resolutely loved him without any self-esteem.
However, he regarded me as nothing.
We had been together for eight years, but our love became nothing compared to his childhood sweetheart.
I stayed in the hospital for a week, and Charles never came again.
However, I could see Flora showing off their love every day on Instagram.
"Charles is so considerate. He is the good man who made lunch for me again!"
"It's just a scratch on my forehead, but Charles treat me very well."
In the first few days, I saw what new tricks they had every day.
Later, the more I looked at it, the more upset I felt, so I simply stopped reading it.
I went through the discharge formalities at the hospital alone and took a taxi home.
There was a lot of dust at home. It seemed that Charles hadn't been home for a week.
I wasn't in the mood to clean the house, so I made a bed sheet and lay on the sofa.
On the way home, I bought a new mobile phone and applied for a phone card.
My phone fell off the cliff. I don't think I'll be able to get it back.
As soon as she put the phone card in my phone, I received a call from Charles.
I heard Charles's furious voice came from the other end of the line.
"Sibyl, what's wrong with you? Why didn't you answer my phone?"
Charles was short-tempered, and he would fly into a rage if anything went wrong.
I endured him for eight whole years. I couldn't tell how many grievance I had suffered.
In the past, as long as he lost his temper, I would be scared out of my wits.
I would do everything I could to beg him and curry favor with him.
But this time, I suddenly calmed down.
Perhaps my love for him had disappeared.
"My phone fell off the cliff. I just bought a new one today."
Charles kept silent for a while.
Perhaps my calmness surprised him, so I asked him.
"Why do you call me?"
Charles was surprised as if he could not accept my attitude.
"Why didn't you tell me that you were discharged from hospital? I came here for nothing."
"Didn't I buy you a limited edition diamond necklace before? Where did you put it? Flora wants to wear it in the jewelry exhibition tomorrow. And I want to go with her tomorrow."
I was upset.
That diamond necklace could be considered a token of love between Charles and me.
Although he didn't spend much money buying it eight years ago.
However, it was a famous designer's unique work, the price had risen to a very high level.
But in my heart, it was priceless.
It represented my love for Charles.
It was also my entire youth and dream.
But now, Charles was going to share the necklace with another woman.
Chapter 2
I held back my emotions that were on the verge of breaking down.
"If you really think the necklace can be shared with another women, then come and get it tomorrow. I'm tired today."
"I'll go get it tonight. I'm afraid it'll be too late tomorrow."
Charles hung up the phone in a hurry when I lose my thought.
Just a second ago, I had fantasized that he was anxious to find me because he was worried about me.
I'm so cheap.
Tears streamed down my face.
The phone I had just bought also fell to the ground in a daze.
With a crisp sound, the screen shattered.
Just like our broken love.
I lay prone on the sofa and burst into tears.
For my youth, for the so-called love I didn't deserve in the past eight years.
I cried so hard that I fell asleep unconsciously.
It was not until I was woken up by the sound of rummaging in the bedroom.
I struggled to get up and walked into the bedroom.
Charles paused for a moment when he was looking for something.
"I saw you asleep when I came in, so I didn't want to wake you up."
I didn't answer him. I took out the necklace from the cabinet and handed it to him without saying a word.
"Give it to her."
Charles was stunned at first, but then he snorted.
"In the past, if I gave your things to Flora, I was afraid that you would do everything to stop me. Why did you suddenly become so sensible today? What are you thinking about?"
I was weak, but I showed him a n indifferent expression on my face.
"Do you think I have the strength or the mind to play tricks on you in my current state?"
Charles glared at me as if I was in an unreasonable manner.
He snatched the necklace from my hand and walked out.
"That's for the best. If you were half as considerate and sensible as Flora, we wouldn't have quarreled every day."
With a bang of the door, Charles left.
He went to look for his childhood sweetheart to please her.
What a joke. He was like me in front of Flora.
He was like a puppy that tried its best to make its beloved happy every day.
I, Who never drank, fell asleep again after getting drunk.
The next morning, a series of urgent ringtone woke me up.
I looked at the number. It was my boss, Aidan.
"Siybl, you should have come back to work after your vacation today, right? Why haven't you arrived at the company yet?"
"I'm sorry, Mr. Blake. I wanted to take another day off today. I overslept..."
"Do you still remember that I told you to go to the Pacific Region to expand a new market?"
Half a year ago, Mr. Blake thought that I was capable and wanted me to be the general manager of the Pacific Region Branch.
However, the office was in New Zealand. I carefully mentioned it to Charles, but he immediately rejected it.
There was no reason in that he couldn't accept a long-distance relationship, let alone abroad.
If I decided to go New Zealand, we would break up.
At that time, I refused Mr. Blake without hesitation and chose to stay with Charles.
"I remember. Didn't you send Daniel there later? Why..."
"Alas, Daniel died of a illness yesterday, which really caught me off guard. After thinking about the current situation, only you have the ability to operate the branch company."
To be honest, I was very regretful to have given up this opportunity to be the general manager of a branch.
In the past six months, I didn't make much progress in the company's headquarters.
I didn't expect to have a second chance now. I would not miss it again.
"Okay, Mr. Blake. I'm willing to take it over. I'll go to the company and talk with you in detail right away."
Mr. Blake gave me a lot of document about the Pacific Region about the past six months.
I burned myself at it with all my heart, planning to get there as soon as possible.
After a busy day at home, I was startled by a figure on the sofa.
"You're back? Why didn't you turn on the light."
I turned on the light and saw Charles's dull expression.
"Why didn't you reply to my message? Why didn't you answer my phone call."
"Oh, I've been busy all day. My new phone fell on the ground and it didn't work."
Charles was silent for a while with an uneasy expression on his face.
"Well... That day, I took Flora through the woods and met a traveller who was driving. Flora's face was scratched by a branch. I was afraid that there would be a scar in her face if the wound could not be dealt with in time, so..."
"So you took her back to the city with by that traveler's car overnight and left me alone in the deep mountains filled with fog?"
I was in so much pain. The wound in his childhood sweetheart's face was more important than my life!
"Well... after returning to the city, I heard that the rescue team had set off, and I couldn't get through to you, so I..."
I tried my best to hold back my tears and smiled to him.
"Aren't you attending the jewelry exhibition with Flora? It's rare for you to be in the mood to care about me."
Charles looked a little embarrassed.
"We have attended that exhibition."
"Isn't there a banquet? Flora posted it on her Ins just now. In the photo, she was holding your arm. It's so sweet. Go and accompany her."
I said that calmly, but for some reason, Charles flew into a rage from embarrassment.
"Sibyl! Are you kidding me? You're always talking about Flora and me! Didn't I tell you that I only treat her as my younger sister!"
Charles grabbed my arm and blew a heavy breath on my face.
I shook off Charles's hand, but my expression was still calm.
"Well, I trust you. I'm tired, so I'll go to sleep first. By the way, I'll sleep on the sofa. I haven't cleaned up the room yet. If you want to live here today, you could clean your room."
After that, I pulled off the blanket on the sofa and lay down, closing my eyes.
I heard Charles swear, rush into the room angrily, and close the door.
Perhaps, my silence and calmness had caused his anger to lose its sense of accomplishment.
Chapter 3
The next day was the weekend. Early in the morning, I heard a knock on the door. It was Flora.
"Sibyl! Did I disturb you and Charles? Charles hasn't gotten up yet, has he? What lazy he is!"
Flora said this but she showed her pride expression on her face.
Before I could say anything, she ran into the bedroom.
Soon, she grabbed Charles, who was only wearing underwear, and walked out with a smile.
"Charles, you're such a lazy man. The sun is shining on your butt."
I threw the blanket to Charles with a cold expression.
"Cover it up. You're not embarrassed. But I'm embarrassed."
He took the blanket with a cold expression and sat down on the sofa unhappily.
Flora sat down next to Charles on the sofa.
This was the first time I had met Flora since we came back from the spring outing. Her face was bright and clean.
There was no trace of injury on her face.
Seeing that I was looking at her, Flora seemed to realize something and smiled awkwardly.
"Sibyl... Charles didn't mean to abandon you that day. It's all my fault..."
"But I'm really afraid that there will be a scar on my face. Fortunately, it was treated in time. I'm fine now. Well... I'm sorry, are your injuries all right?"
Flora said with her innocent gaze. She spoke carefully and guiltily.
But I could clearly see the pride and provocation in her gaze.
She was proud that Charles had abandoned me for her sake.
I ignored Flora's insincerity, but Charles felt sorry for her.
"It's okay, Flora. I've already explained it to Sibyl. She said she didn't blame you."
I smiled calmly.
"Did I said that? Why don't I remember? It seems that I must have fallen to the ground and become stupid."
After saying that, we fell silent, and the atmosphere became a little awkward.
It could be seen that Charles had been holding back. His chest heaved up and down, but in the end, he couldn't hold it in.
"Siybl, what do you mean? It's all in the past. Do you have to ask Flora to apologize to you?"
Flora pursed her lips and pretended to be extremely aggrieved.
"I'm sorry, Sibyl. I was too selfish. Don't blame Charles..."
Looking at their performance, I suddenly felt nauseous.
"There's bad luck in this house. You two stay here. I'll go out."
I put on my coat, turned around, and went out. I wandered outside for two hours before I went back.
I thought that even if this shameless couple wanted to show off their love, two hours was enough and they should have left.
Unexpectedly, when I pushed the door open and went in, the two of them were shamelessly playing on the sofa.
"Oh, Charles, you're so naughty. Don't always pull my hair. It's not like I was a child!"
I frowned and saw cold food on the table.
When they saw me, they restrained themselves a little.
"Sibyl, you're back. You must be hungry. There are some food we bought just. You can eat it."
She spoke naturally and enthusiastically, as if she were the hostess of this house.
"I'm not hungry. I even feel like throwing up. Also, I hate the people who did not clean up after eating."
Charles was a neat freak. In the past, he hated it the most when I didn't clean up after eating.
Because we've argued about it many times, but I didn't expect that he could endure Flora.
I repeated what Charles had said to me. He must have heard it.
"I'm sorry, Sibyl. I'll clean up right away."
Flora sounded as if she had wronged me, making me look like a villain.
Charles couldn't stand it anymore.
"That's enough, Sibyl. If you don't want us to stay at home, just say it. You don't have to be so sarcastic here."
He could target me, but I could not repeat his words to Flora.
"Let's go, Flora. Let's go to your home and let her calm down."
I quietly watched the them walk out hand in hand.
After seeing them off at the door, I spoke calmly.
"Take care. Goodbye."
Flora seemed to have thought of something. She suddenly stopped and looked at me.
"By the way, Sibyl, I really like your necklace. Can you lend it to me for a few more days? Charles also said that it suits me very well."
I was stunned and smiled to her.
"If you like it, I'll give it to you."
Yes, I gave it to you. Not only this necklace, but also the man beside you.
I'm tired. I didn't care him anymore.
