Chapter 1

Jay and I had a commercial marriage for five years with no ceremony.

My daughter, Tiffany Watsons' only wish before entering the operating room was to see my wedding.

I threatened him with family cooperation and begged him on my knees, and he finally agreed.

But on the wedding day, Tiffany sat in her wheelchair in her little dress until her last breath, never seeing her father's figure.

My phone contact was blocked by him. Yet I saw his first lover, Sherry Lewis's post.

A photo of the two of them at sunrise on an island.

Captioned, "Buried in the sunlight, eternal love will not fade with time."

My hand on my abdomen was trembling stiffly.

The sun had risen, and it was time for the Watsons family to go bankrupt.

After Tiffany died, I was surprisingly calm. All my anger disappeared. It turned out that it was a one-person show for five years.

I handled Tiffany's funeral alone and explained it to the guests.

Over five years, Jay abandoned me and Tiffany countless times for Sherry. Now, I was numb to his betrayals.

Seeing Sherry's post, I felt a perverse satisfaction as if I had predicted it.

I realized my disappointment in him had reached its peak.

It was time to leave.

I had a lawyer draft a divorce agreement, detailing the division of assets.

Carrying the agreement and my weary body home, I ran into Jay and Sherry coming in together.

Seeing my indifferent expression, a flicker of guilt flashed in his eyes.

He looked down and pulled a few things from his bag, tossing them in front of me.

"These are gifts I picked for Tiffany. Didn't she love the beach the most?

"And this, a limited edition collaborative toy."

I looked down at the trash in front of me, almost laughing in anger.

A few broken shells and a toy from a McDonald's kids' meal.

I mocked, "Mr. Watsons, you had a great time revisiting your youthful romance at a fast food restaurant while Tiffany was critically ill.

"You even brought back a bunch of trash. Is all this worth even one of Sherry's earrings?"

With those words, the guilt in Jay's eyes vanished, replaced by a cold expression.

"I was handling serious matters. What nonsense are you spouting? Stop being sarcastic. You wanted to marry me, not the other way around! The gifts I prepared for Tiffany are none of your business!"

After saying this, he turned and took a document from Sherry's hand, handing it to me.

"This is the island I selected. It's perfect for a wedding. The hotel was too hasty. After all, it's the only time Tiffany would witness our love.

"The contract is signed. Look at it. I'll contact the wedding planning company to redesign the wedding plan.

"Alice, I'm telling you for the last time. I was handling business. Stop giving me a bad attitude!"

It was such important business that he didn't even know Tiffany had died!

I ignored his outstretched hand and went straight to the bedroom. Anger flashed across Jay's face.

"Are you deaf? Didn't you hear me?"

He angrily threw the documents into the air, scattering papers everywhere.

He was panting heavily with anger.

"Alice, don't go too far. I just wanted to give Tiffany a better memory. Don't you want her to see the island's scenery in her last moments? Everything I do is for her!"

Listening to his words, I remained eerily calm.

Explaining the groom's absence to the guests had exhausted me. Now, even speaking felt tiring.

Besides, we had nothing left to say.

There was no point in arguing anymore.

Sherry raised her hand to calm him, then took the island documents and walked in.

Seeing me packing, a smug look flashed in her eyes, and she loudly exclaimed, "Alice, are you going on a business trip? Why are you packing? Is it because he didn't attend the wedding?

"Oh, if you want to blame someone, blame me. I saw the island and thought it suited your status, so I suggested it to him. He agrees immediately and drags me to inspect it..."

She spoke with undisguised shyness on her face.

It made me want to vomit.

She had spent five years subtly reminding me of her importance to Jay, never getting tired of it.

I had mostly packed Tiffany's belongings. I could buy new clothes for myself later, so I didn't take any.

I calmly walked out of the bedroom and saw Jay smoking irritably on the sofa.

"Just as well, I have something for you too."

I placed the divorce agreement on the table, and his eyes widened instantly.

"Alice, have you lost your mind?"

Chapter 2

I must have been crazy. Otherwise, how could I have married him and endured for five years?

I used to be as proud as he was.

In Tiffany's final moments, she said to me, "Mom, I want you to be happier..."

Even a child could see what I couldn't for five years.

My humility, concessions, and desperate pleas forced my sweet daughter to be submissive in this house.

She even tried to please Sherry.

Because only then could she see her father's smile.

Only then could she get her father's hug.

All my humility over the past five years flashed before my eyes.

In that moment, I understood.

But the price was too high, too much for me to bear.

At this moment, looking at Jay's face made me nauseous.

He looked at the agreement on the table, shocked, and shook it forcefully in front of me.

"I already agreed to redo the wedding. I just wanted a better place. Why are you making a fuss? When have I ever gone back on my word? Throw this away, and I'll pretend you never brought it out!

"And when I went to the island, I consulted foreign doctors for Tiffany and arranged for expert consultations. It was supposed to be a surprise. What are you doing now? Have you had enough?"

Hearing him mention Tiffany, my eyes couldn't help but redden.

I shouted angrily, "Don't talk to me about Tiffany! You don't deserve to! Having a father like you is her misfortune! Go mess around with your sweetheart. Tiffany doesn't have a father like you!"

Jay's impatient expression froze on his face. He finally realized I wasn't joking.

"Sign it. The wedding isn't needed anymore, and Tiffany doesn't want to see it either."

I just now understood my daughter's thoughts.

She didn't want to see the wedding. She wanted me to be happy.

But Jay immediately frowned and looked displeased. "Alice, have you been saying something to Tiffany again?

"Tiffany is so young and not in good health. Can you be a normal mom? What are you feeding her mind with all day?

"Last time I took Sherry to see her, she asked me not to be with Sherry anymore because it makes you unhappy."

Jay's stubborn face made me sick. Never had I felt our five-year marriage was this ridiculous!

He never cared about Tiffany's growth and only visited her a few times during her hospital stays.

Always with Sherry.

Seeing my expression grow colder, he spoke impatiently,

"Alright, you don't need to say anything. I'll explain to Tiffany myself, okay? Stop making a fuss. I'm already exhausted from work, and now I have to go to the island to check out the wedding venue for you. You do nothing but stay in the hospital every day. Do you know how much I've had to handle on my own? Can't you find something to do and help me out?"

"The only thing I want to do now is divorce you."

My words made Jay furious.

He had never seen me so cold.

Just as he was about to say something, Sherry hurried over. She took his hand and gently patted the back of it.

"Don't be angry. A wedding is no small matter. You've already agreed to it. If it weren't for Alice lying about the surgery time for Tiffany, the wedding wouldn't have been so rushed. We'll make it up next time..."

Before she could finish, I rushed forward in anger and slapped her across the face.

"Sherry, I warn you not to use my daughter as an act. I'm not Jay!"

Chapter 3

As soon as I spoke, he pushed me onto the couch.

The sudden loss of balance made my head spin and I felt nauseous.

I couldn't help but lean over the couch and dry heave.

Jay forcefully held Sherry in his arms. His gaze towards me was harsh.

"Alice, stop acting in front of me. You make me sick.

"Apologize to Sherry right now, or forget about your wedding!"

It took me a while to recover, my eyes bloodshot from looking down for too long.

Hearing this, I suddenly laughed.

"Apologize? Jay, are you crazy? I'm not like her, a worthless woman who relies on men. Who do you think you are? If you mention Tiffany again, I'll slap you, too!"

He laughed coldly.

"Sherry was right. It's not Tiffany who wants to see the wedding. You're using her illness to threaten me!

"What? You can't hold back now? Tiffany's last wish isn't important anymore?"

I stared at him, hoping to see a hint of pretense.

But there was none.

He truly believed Sherry's lies.

Seeing my cold expression, he defended Sherry in a harsh tone.

"Do you know how long Sherry ran around the island for our wedding? Her feet were blistered, she searched everywhere for medical experts for me. How dare you hit her? All you do is stay in the hospital taking care of her, enjoying yourself."

A mocking smile tugged at the corners of my lips.

"Really? She found experts on the sunrise beach? Do experts like swimming in the sea?"

Jay couldn't help but rush over, but Sherry weakly held his arm.

He could only roar at me angrily.

"Alice, you are the last person qualified to criticize Sherry!

"Apologize to her right now!

"Or I'll cancel Tiffany's consultation and the wedding right away!

"With a sarcastic mother like you, she'd be better off dead!"

As soon as he finished speaking, my pent-up anger exploded. I quickly grabbed the glass ashtray from the table and smashed it on his head.

"Jay, don't you dare mention Tiffany to me! You don't deserve to! She doesn't deserve to either!"

With a loud crash, the ashtray fell to the ground in pieces.

Blood flowed down Jay's forehead from the wound, his eyes filled with malice.

The cigarette butt he had just put out was still smoldering, almost setting his hair on fire.

I glared at him fearlessly.

The next second, he rushed over and grabbed my collar.

"Alice, apologize!"

He practically spat out the words, his reason burned away by anger.

I clung stubbornly to his hands, gripping his collar, refusing to agree.

"Divorce! I have nothing to say to you! What you owe Tiffany, I will make you pay back bit by bit!"

My attitude completely drove him out of his mind.

He used his other hand to choke me by the neck.

But that wasn't enough. He released his grip while his foot, clad in a leather shoe, viciously kicked my stomach.

I immediately vomited, my entire body flew backward off the sofa and landed heavily on the ground.

With a dull thud, the pain felt like my organs had shifted.

The severe pain in my lower abdomen made me break out in cold sweat.

I remained in the position I fell, afraid to move.

Cold sweat and tears fell to the ground together. Jay watched me with a cold, emotionless expression.

At that moment, I wasn't his wife, but his enemy.

He gritted his teeth and said, "You brought this on yourself. I told you all you had to do was apologize.

"You're still so ungrateful!"

I was in too much pain to speak, my hair drenched in sweat, clinging to my face.

I could only weakly gasp. "Ambulance... help me... my baby..."

He looked suspicious and said, "Are you still acting? Stop pretending. I know my own strength!"

After speaking, he turned tenderly to look at Sherry's swollen cheek.

I was about to lose consciousness from the pain, but I saw blood flowing from beneath me onto the floor.

"Jay..."
