Chapter 1

Eddy, the son of my husband's younger brother, stabbed my daughter Julie's eyes with a pencil, and the doctor said that she might lose her eyeballs.

I collapsed to the ground, couldn't believe my ears.

Emma, my mother-in-law, and Clifton, my brother-in-law, complained, "It's just a pencil wound. Can't you just take Julie to the clinic downstairs? Why do you have to come to the hospital?"

Ethan, my husband, advised me to make peace with the family.

My sister-in-law, Marie threw me a thousand dollars and wanted to me to let it go.

That little bastard Eddy was still mocking my daughter, "Julie, you're so ugly. You look like a pirate now. I should have pricked your other eye as well!"

Looking at the evil family, I was furious.

I was so sad for my daughter.

One rainy night, I put on makeup and changed my clothes. Then, I sneaked to Clifton's house.

Clifton's son stabbed the pencil into my daughter's eyes.

With a scream, Julie fell to the ground in pain, and blood oozed out of the corners of her eyes.

But Emma hugged Eddy and comforted him. "Don't be afraid, my dear grandson. Julie will be fine."

My eyes widened. I pushed Emma away and rushed to the hospital with my daughter in my arms.

Julie kept calling out to her, "Mom, it hurts."

My heart ached so much that I didn't even notice that I've lost my slippers.

Finally, I arrived at the hospital.

The doctor quickly took my daughter and sent her to the operating room.

I broke out in a cold sweat and collapsed to the ground.

When I finally came to my senses, a nurse came out. "What are you waiting for? You need to go through the admission procedures."

Only then did I realize that I left in a hurry and didn't bring anything with me.

I could only borrow a phone to call my husband.

However, Ethan didn't take it seriously. "My mother just called me. Eddy was just playing with Julie."

"It's not a big deal. Don't make a fuss."

When I heard this, I was so angry.

"Ethan, are you even human? If anything happens to Julie, I'll kill all of you."

Then I hung up the phone.

At the thought of Julie's expression just now, I couldn't help crying.

When I was in college, I met Ethan. He was well-behaved. After graduation, I married him and moved to his place, which was far away from home.

However, after getting married, I found that sometimes being honest was being cowardly.

Ethan was the eldest son in the family.

Emma said that she loved both of her son the same but she preferred her younger son.

She didn't very like girls. So ignored my daughter and I after I gave birth.

On the other side, she was very found of her grandson. Although Marie's mother was there taking care of her,

Emma had always been siding with them.

I knew that Ethan was filial. When we quarreled, I always gave in for the sake of our relationship.

I didn't expect Ethan to behave like this when such thing happened,

I couldn't help but feel a chill down my spine.

Soon, Ethan, Emma, and Clifton came to the hospital.

Seeing me, Clifton curled his lips and said with dissatisfaction,

"Ava, it's just a pencil wound. Can't you just take Julie to the clinic downstairs? Why do you have to come to the hospital?"

Emma also chimed in. "How much does this trip cost?"

They didn't care about Julie at all. They just didn't want to waste money.

I was so angry that I slammed my hammer against the wall. "Shut up, all of you!"

I rarely got angry, so Clifton and Emma were startled.

Seeing that I was really angry, Ethan carefully stepped forward and asked, "What did the doctor say?"

I sat on the chair dejectedly and shook my head.

"The doctors are in the operating room. I don't know. The nurse asked me to go through the admission procedure."

When Clifton heard this, he was immediately unhappy. "They just want money. We don't even know how is Julie now and they want her to stay in the hospital."

At this time, the door of the operating room opened.

When the doctor came out, his face darkened. He scolded us, "As parents, how could you be so careless? Do you know that the child was almost blind?"

Before I could say anything, Emma breathed a sigh of relief. "Fortunately, she is not blind."

What?

I was not in the mood to argue with her now. I asked anxiously, "Doctor, how is my daughter's eyes?"

"Are you the mother?"

I quickly nodded.

"Is her father here?"

Ethan also stepped forward.

"Since you're all here, I'll tell you the situation in detail."

"The left cornea of the child is seriously injured. The pencil tip has penetrated the left cornea and pierced into the glass body, and part of the pupil has also been damaged."

"Although we have taken out the pencil wick through the operation, it is very likely that it will be infected in the later stage and cause permanent visual damage. In the worst cases, the eyeball would be removed."

"She must stay in the hospital for a while."

Chapter 2

Remove the eyeball?

I felt the world spinning around me.

Ethan was calm.

After the doctor left, he had to follow the nurse to pay for the bills.

I immediately came to my senses and grabbed him. "Eddy did it. Shouldn't Clifton pay?"

Clifton was stunned. He looked at me and then at Ethan. "Ethan, I have no money. Marie controls it."

"Go pay now. I'll give you the rest when she is discharged from the hospital, okay?"

Ethan was too embarrassed to accept it. He said that there was no need to settle the score as they were brothers. Then he was about to leave.

I grabbed him.

"Eddy made the mistake. Clifton, you'd better call Marie and ask her to bring the money over as soon as possible!"

Seeing this, Emma was unhappy. "Hey, Ava, what's wrong with you today? Clifton has already said that he didn't bring any money with him. Why are you pushing him so hard?"

I knew that if they didn't pay now, they wouldn't after Julie was discharged.

They must pay, or they wouldn't learn the lesson.

What if it got infected?

Ethan was annoyed. He shook off my hand and said, "Ava, why are you still fussing about money at this point? What's going on with you today?"

I choked with anger.

He could only watch this fool leave.

We had to pay 100,000 dollars that day.

Ethan paid reluctantly. Emma and Clifton took the opportunity to slip away.

He earned 4,000 dollars. We may not be able to save so much in two years.

He blamed me for coming to the hospital.

I had no time to argue with him.

Julie was in a coma in the ICU, her eyes were still covered with blood. I felt so distressed when I saw that and burst into tears.

Clifton and I live in the same neighborhood.

Today was the weekend, and Emma brought Clifton's son, Eddy, over to our apartment.

Eddy was more than half a year older than Julie and was usually very naughty.

At present, he was the only grandson of the Leonard family. Emma spoiled him.

Julie was taught to be polite and always gave in to Eddy.

She didn't even tell me when Eddy took things for her or hit her.

Ethan had always tell me to forget about it, since we were family.

But I didn't expect that Eddy dared to stab Julie's eye with a pencil today. I really wanted to stab him now!

I regretted that I went to cook and let Julie stay with Eddy and Emma.

Thinking of this, I felt as if my heart was being held tightly by a big hand. I couldn't breathe.

I only hope that Julie would be fine this time.

After that, I'd sell the house and move somewhere far away from these bastards.

Seeing that I didn't speak, Ethan suddenly said, "Ava, weren't you resting at home today? Why didn't you keep an eye on Julie?"

"At the end of the day, it's not my mother's fault. It's also your fault. Do you know how much money we spent?"

I turned around angrily and slapped him. "Get lost!"

He hadn't even looked at Julie yet.

Why did I marry such a coward?

He didn't dare to say a word in front of his mother and brother. He blamed everything on me.

I suddenly realized that I had been too quiet all this time.

That was why people were bullying me.

Ethan covered his face and said angrily, "Ava, you're crazy!"

Chapter 3

"I'm crazy!"

I looked at him in disgust.

"Ethan, have you ever taken care of the family? All you did is work. I work too. And on the weekend, I have to do housework."

"Your mother always comes here this day so I can serve her. I've told you several times not to let her come. I also want to rest on the weekend. What did you do?"

Ethan was unconvinced. "He's my mother. What's wrong with you serving her? Isn't this what you should do?"

"What do you mean by what I should do? He's your mother, not mine. You also rest today. Why didn't you go home?"

"I... I..."

He hesitated for a long time and replied, "I told you I was with my buddies."

On his rest days, he always went fishing with his friends. I never said anything about it.

He wasn't like that when we first married. When did things change?

One time, when I was talking to him, Emma heard it.

She said that I was treating Ethan like a child and that a man should have some freedom.

Later, I thought about it and agreed, so I stopped asking.

But now, looking at his irresponsible look, I somehow felt sick.

"Ethan, I won't let this matter go so easily. Your brother must pay for what Eddy has done."

"Also, after Julie is discharged from the hospital, I will sell the apartment and move somewhere else."

"Your mother loves her son and grandson. I don't care. But don't get me involved!"

Ethan was stunned. "Is it necessary to sell the house?"

"Yes! or let's get a divorce!"

Julie recovered well after the operation. Her eye was not infected.

Seven days later, Julie was transferred to an ordinary ward.

Emma, Clifton, Marie, and Eddy came together.

As soon as Eddy entered the door and saw Julie with one eye wrapped, he burst into laughter.

"Julie, you're so ugly. You look like a pirate now. If I had known earlier, I would have pricked your other eye as well!"

Julie was stunned for a moment and couldn't help crying.

I was so angry. I quickly held her in my arms and coaxed her.

The doctor said that she must not cry in the next few days.

I tried very hard but this little jerk ruined everything.

After Julie calmed down, I pulled Eddy out of the room before they could react.

Pa! Pa! Pa! I slapped him.

Clifton and Marie were anxious and hurried up to stop me.

Emma and Ethan were also shocked.

Eddy hid in Marie's arms and burst into tears. Marie felt distressed and shouted at me, "Ava, how dare you!"

I sneered, "If you don't teach him manners. I'll teach him on your behalf!"

Clifton was so angry that he wanted to hit me.

I craned my neck and look at him. "Try if you dare."

"I've merely slapped him, and you're already so distressed. One of my daughter's eyes was almost blind, but you acted like nothing happened."

Ethan tried to ease the tension again. "Come on, they are kids. They don't know what they are doing. Ava, you have gone too far.]

"Too far? This is just the beginning."

I looked at Clifton and his wife and said, "Eddy wouldn't say such a thing if you taught him any manner at home!"

"If Julie's eye is infected, Eddy will lose his eye too! Just you wait!"

I glared at Eddy and was about to return to the ward.

The most important thing now was to stop Julie from crying. There was plenty of time to settle the rest.

Unexpectedly, Marie put down Eddy, took out a thousand dollars from her pocket, and threw it at my back.

"Ava, even if Eddy did something wrong, you shouldn't hit him."

"Here's 1,000 dollars. We're even!"

I turned around and looked at the money on the ground, then at Ethan.

He was too guilty to look me in the eye.

I knew that Ethan didn't tell them about the deposit.

I didn't say anything. I walked to the door and told Julie to cover her ears so she could sleep.

Julie lay down obediently.

I closed the door of the ward, took a deep breath, and turned to look at them coldly.

"If you want to be even, let's do it today. The deposit alone is 100,000 dollars. Who will pay for it?"

Marie was stunned for a moment. "100,000."

Clifton looked at Ethan in exasperation and said, "I told you, Ethan, I'll make up for it after you're discharged from the hospital!"

I sneered and said, "What do you mean? It was your son who caused the trouble, so you have to pay for it. What do you mean by making up?"

My voice was so loud that the people in the hospital gradually gathered around me.
