The Alpha's Biggest Mistake: Losing His Fated Luna Summary

For two years, Aria kept the Blackwood Pack united as Luna, waiting for her Fated Mate, Alpha Jaxson, to come home from the border wars. But when he returned, he ignored her completely and instead presented a fragile pregnant woman and her young son as his chosen family. In front of everyone, he claimed the woman carried his child and demanded Aria accept her as a sister. When Aria refused and surrendered her duties, the pack turned against her. At dinner, the mistress's son spilled scalding soup onto Aria's hand, leaving severe burns. Jaxson's grandmother blamed Aria for frightening the boy, and Jaxson stayed silent. Heartbroken, Aria documented her injuries and resolved to reclaim her freedom.

Chapter 1 of The Alpha's Biggest Mistake: Losing His Fated Luna

Dawn Crawford POV:

I smoothed the crisp white fabric of the banner one last time.

The painted red letters, "Welcome Home, Alpha," had to be perfect.

Just like this moment.

The air smelled of roasting meat and pine, a feast prepared for our returning hero, my mate, Jaxson Fisher.

For two years, while he fought rogues on the borders, I had held our world together.

Two long years of managing Pack crises alone, of silent dinners and a cold bed.

I ran the Blackwood Pack as its Luna, the Alpha's Fated Mate and the highest-ranking female in the pack, my every action fueled by a single purpose: waiting for him to come home.

A long, deep horn blast echoed from the valley.

The scout's signal.

The crowd gathered in the front yard of the Pack House erupted.

A thunderous cheer rolled across the lawn as everyone surged toward the main road, faces alight with excitement and reverence.

My heart hammered against my ribs.

I nervously straightened the folds of my silver-white dress, feeling like the eighteen-year-old girl who had first met him all those years ago.

The convoy of black SUVs rumbled up the drive, stopping in the center of the manicured lawn.

The one in front was his.

I knew it like I knew my own heartbeat.

The door opened, and Jaxson's tall, powerful frame emerged.

He wore his uniform, and a new scar above his eyebrow only made him look more ruggedly handsome.

He was tired, and I could see it in his posture, but he was still the Alpha who owned my soul.

My smile froze on my face.

He didn't look at me.

Instead, he turned back to the car, his movements careful, and helped a woman out.

She was a small, fragile-looking woman, her hand resting protectively over a swollen belly.

A little boy followed her, clutching her skirt and peeking out from behind Jaxson's leg to stare at me.

The woman lifted her head, and her eyes met mine.

She offered a smile that was a strange mix of timidity and challenge.

She pressed herself against Jaxson's side, as if she were the one who belonged there.

The pack's cheering died, replaced by a thick, confused silence.

Jaxson cleared his throat, his voice ringing with the authority of an Alpha.

"This is Julianne Gonzalez, and her son, Tuan. During the war, her father died saving my life. I owe them everything."

My world went quiet.

The only sound was the rush of my own blood in my ears.

The eyes of the pack were on me, hundreds of them, a storm of pity, confusion, and a few cruel sparks of satisfaction.

Finally, Jaxson's gaze found me.

The amber eyes I had dreamt of for two years held no joy, no relief of reunion.

Only a command, and a flicker of impatience.

He led the woman and her child toward me, each step a heavy weight on my chest.

"Dawn," his voice entered my mind through our private link, cold and hard as stone. "They are my chosen family and she is carrying my child. From now on, they are part of this pack. I expect you to welcome them as a true Luna should."

My inner wolf let out a pained, guttural whine.

Chosen family?

In our world, a Fated Mate bond is sacred and unbreakable, ordained by the Moon Goddess herself.

There was no such thing as a "chosen family" that could override it.

Yet here he was, spitting on that divine law. In front of me, his Fated Mate?

Julianne's voice, sickly sweet, broke the silence. "It's so good to meet you, Dawn. Jaxson has told me so much about you."

I stared at her fake smile, at the child in her belly that belonged to my mate.

I couldn't feel the tears I knew must be on my cheeks.

All I felt was a deep, spreading cold that seemed to freeze me from the inside out.

Jaxson saw my silence and his brow furrowed. His voice was sharp. "Dawn. Don't make this difficult for everyone."

I lifted my head and met his eyes, and for the first time, I saw that there was nothing in them for me.

Only cold, hard duty.

I ignored Julianne completely.

My gaze was fixed on him.

Using every ounce of strength I had left, I spoke, my voice clear and steady.

"Welcome home, Alpha Fisher."

I used his formal surname.

Not the name I whispered in the dark.

It was a declaration.

Something between us had just snapped.

His amber eyes widened, a flicker of shock in their depths.

He understood.

I turned and pushed my way through the stunned crowd, not looking back.

Behind me, I heard the rising murmur of whispers and Jaxson's low, angry growl.

My steps were even and firm, though each one felt like walking on broken glass.

I didn't stop until I reached the empty Luna's suite.

I shut the door, closing out the world.

My body slid down the cool wood of the door until I was sitting on the floor.

I finally allowed a single, silent sob to escape my lips.

Outside the window, the fireworks we had planned for his celebration shot into the sky, exploding in a beautiful, mocking display of light.

In the midst of the ultimate humiliation and heartbreak, my only thought was not of tears, but of what came next.

A plan, a seed of survival, began to form in the ruins of my heart.
