Chapter 2
Samantha’s POV
I tried to speak but could not because of the tears streaming down my cheeks; I placed my palm over my eyes while sobbing gently, settling myself for a moment, and staring him in the eyes with a gloomy expression.
"I...I want a divorce!"
Lucas is staring at me in silence, and I am aware that he is surprised because he didn't foresee this happening.
"Do you believe that you will be fine if you divorce me?" I shivered as Lucas laughed sarcastically.
"I'll be fine…." I spoke in a distant, quiet, and lifeless whisper.
Lucas's face clouded, and he exclaimed, "Fine! We are going to inform the Pack Elders about it! You know what? I'll be happy without you!"
"I've made a decision, Lucas! And I believe this is the best decision I will ever make!"
“That you’re leaving me?!”
“Yes!”
After I said this, he went away, leaving me with a loud bang near the door.
I immediately grabbed a dress from my closet, washed my face with water, and walked down the stairs to find Lucas waiting for me.
The servants unlocked the gate for us, and two guards accompanied me to the car and opened the car's door. Before I could respond, Lucas had already thrown me into the car after stopping the guard and telling them to leave me alone.
“What is wrong with you?!”
“Nothing…as you don’t matter to me anymore!” he said and asked the driver to drive to the Pack’s House.
When we arrived at the Pack's House, he left me in the car while he walked alone to be greeted by a pack member. My body trembled as I got out of the car. I know they dislike me since they never treat me as a member of the pack or as the Luna of this pack.
Lucas eyed me from a distance, then returned, grabbed my hand, and dragged me inside the house. The Elder woman examined me intently before glancing at Lucas. As advisors to both alphas and betas, the viewpoint of an elder is highly regarded across the pack. They are expected to serve as role models for the pack, including adults, cubs, and guests, demonstrating the pack's behaviour.
"What could we possibly have here, Alpha Lucas?" The older woman named Ursullas inquired; while she is pretty old, she still possesses strong instincts and is very powerful.
"We've chosen to part ways; I've rejected her as my luna, and she's no longer my mate!" Lucas spoke deliberately, word by word, and then he glanced at me and said, "I don't love her..."
“How about you, Samantha?” Ursula asks.
“Uhm, I...uhm—" That’s the only thing I could say with a stuttering voice, I squeezed my eyelids shut to block the hot tears streaming down my face. But it did not.
"Do you ever love your Alpha?"
"All I want is a divorce, and I never want to see his face again. Elders, kindly grant my request...our request!"
The faces of the Pack Elders were furrowed with worry and confusion as they sighed and stared at us like they studied our behaviour.
I don't hear what the elders have decided. My mind went blank, and as I looked at Lucas, I no longer saw any remorse on his face. I thought Lucas would fight for me, he would ask me to be his mate, and he would beg me not to leave him, but it turns out that I was the only one who was in love during our three years of marriage, and he was not there, I was alone.
The next thing I knew, I was alone in my room, packing my things and preparing to leave the Madcrest Pack. I did my best to be the best wife and his luna, but he still doesn't recognize my worth. Maybe I deserve even more, better than him.
Every step I take is accompanied by a heavy heart that wants to return to him, but I can't because he has already told me that he would never love me. Amusing, right? Although it may sound pathetic, I will never impose myself again on someone who causes me only heartache.
Just when I exited the mansion, I felt awe, greeted by cool air, but it became oppressive as the humidity pounded down and suffocated me. The aroma of rain is heavy and smoky.
A low crackle of thunder rolls across the rooftops in the street's silence, accompanied by the pitter-patter of tiny raindrops. Everything halts momentarily. The wind itself holds its breath. A blazing silver stripe breaks the sky, and the rain begins. I exhale heavily and sigh of relief as I stare at the mansion where I resided for three years.
"Bye for now..." but I don't know where I'm going. I'm going nowhere.
I went inside the taxi when someone knocked on the door with a deep sigh. The strange man soaked in the rain seemed to have run all the way here to stop me from where I was going. I rolled down the window and asked, "Who are you?!"
"Ivan...Ivan Boozer," he said with his deep and husky voice before opening the car and instructing the driver to drive elsewhere.
My eyes glow in the dark as I continue to be puzzled while staring at the strange man. Then he said, "I'm your father's Beta, and I'm here to take you to your father!"
A flashback of what happened to me when I was fifteen flashes across my mind. A dark past that I wish to forget. I was chased by Dark Rogues in the wilderness with no one to help me. I ran till I no longer knew where I was going. Even though I was terrified, I simply raced and used all my power to avoid falling to my knees or tumbling to the ground.
Someone falsely accused me, I don't know, forcing me to lose my memories, but Lucas' father was able to save me from the Dark Ruthless Rogues who were chasing me and almost killed me by then.
He asked me to marry his son, took me to his pack, and introduced me to his son, Lucas. The first time I saw him, I was swamped with awe, and my heart was racing with excitement. My eyes slowly filled with tears as I remembered everything.
I sniffled and said, “I don’t want to go back again, and be chased by Dark Rogues!”
Ivan was stunned as he heard that from me, but it didn't stop him from persuading me from returning to my father, as the Alpha of the Red Moon Pack.
“He had no idea what I’ve been through for the past three years!” I added while I gritted my teeth and grasped the hem of the dress while thinking about what happened to me.
"What do you mean?" Ivan asked with a quiet and curious tone. He appears pretty interested in what happened to me. Because there is always another side to every tale, and nobody heard my side.
"I suspected that one of the members of the Feral Pack had framed me that year! Therefore, it is unsafe for me to return there! Can you not see? I no longer have a pack…everyone tried to betray me!"
Ivan groaned and handed me a black card from his coat pocket, saying, "If you change your mind, feel free to call me. We are always here for you, Samantha, and you are always welcome to rejoin the pack." As I did not accept the black card on his palm, he groaned and said, "Fine, I agree with you. I'll discuss this with your father and see what his conclusion is. Just take the card—"
"Get out! I don’t want your card or you contract!"
Ivan raised his hand and responded, "I will going to find you, Samantha!"
I shoved him out of the car, and I could hear his angry growl.
“Miss that was dangerous—” the driver said with a trembling voice.
“Yes, I know, so please keep driving!”
Chapter 3
Samantha’s POV
The night was peaceful and filled with silence. The chauffeur dropped me off at a hotel that I could only afford with my own money. I sighed as I entered the hotel, which was dim, too small, and not as cozy as my previous home. Perhaps it is time for me to realize that I am destined to be this way.
I place my clothing on the dresser when the curtain sways in the chilly air, and I smell the familiar scent of a wolf. I retreated, and, to my amazement, Ivan Boozer appeared again in front of me.
"Oh f*ck!" I was startled and asked him, "Do you have a habit of startling me?" I yelled at him, and he responded with a chuckle while raising his hand in the dark room.
"Easy, girl!"
I then turned on the light and confronted him.
"What do you want?!"
"Here is the contract; please sign it—"
"Sign what?!"
He handed me the contract and instructed me to take a seat and read it.
"What proposal did my father make? How did you find me?”
He folded his arms and proceeded, "Your father has asked you to become the CEO of Patterson’s Feral Group, the pack's business. If you accept the offer, it's acceptable if you don't return the pack, but if you reject it, your father will attack the Madcrest Pack because of your poor decision."
I think of Lucas, who was my first love and the only person I have loved for the past three years. If my father decides to fight the pack, I cannot stand by and watch him suffer, especially because Lucas's father has previously defended me from Dark Rogue attacks. I cannot do that to them because I owe them big time, which is my life.
“I…I don’t understand,” I said while shaking my head, “How could my father trust me to run a business of the pack? What could be his possible reason?”
“Well, I don’t know either, maybe he has his own reasons.” Ivan said and sat in front of me, he folded his hand together and asked, “So? Are you gonna sign it or not?”
I shake my head, “Fine, I’m going to accept this since you don’t give me an option, either to accept it or my father will attack and break my former pack and I don’t want that to happen.”
I quickly grab the black card from his palm and sign the contract, transitioning from the poor girl to a rich girl. I will use my authority to protect myself so that I am never mistreated again.
I returned to the Pack House since I left my purse there while my mind was preoccupied with so many things. When I arrived, the surrounding was eerily quiet, and not a single member of the pack greeted me. Like I care!
After the divorce document was filed this afternoon, I felt so saddled that even my heart and mind were despairing. I sighed upon seeing Lucas's mother, Emelia Frederson. She blocked me as I was ready to leave the manor house. Then, her expression changed to that of a mother-in-law who had always loathed me for marrying her son. The gap between us was one meter, and she approached me while I wiped away my tears and studied her face.
"I'd rather not see your face in this Pack House. Because you are such a loser, losers like you deserve nothing!"
"I, too, do not wish to see your face!" She was startled because she had never heard me say something like that to her before; I've always been a good daughter-in-law and a martyr-type wife, but now that I'm finally separated from his son, I can do whatever I want. As I said, I had enough of them. She can no longer embarrass or demean me in front of so many people.
"How dare you! If Lucas were to decide to divorce you, you'd be homeless and famished! You cannot survive in this world without the help of my son!"
"It is unnecessary to ask him! I had already divorced your son; were you uninformed? Oh well, you're a bit late! And just so you know, I can survive on my own, and I will prove it!"
She was horrified to hear this from me; her golden eyes widened, and she took out her phone to call Lucas.
"Lucas, dear! I simply want to know if Samantha was telling the truth! Did you two—" Emilia bit her bottom lip as she heard Lucas's response; she then smiled and glanced in my direction. She hung up the phone and took a deep breath before saying, "Well, I'm delighted you're finally out of this pack!"
“Oh, me too! I can't wait to leave here!" I said sarcastically, and I walked away.
“Don’t walk away when I’m still talking to you, b*tch!” she said and pulled the back of my hand and face me with her evil face.
“What do you want, Emilia?”
"I want you to respect me! Don't disrespect me or else—"
I sighed and grasped her arm with my claw, asking, "Otherwise, what? Are you going to harm me? Hmm?!" I confronted her and stared at her face with piercing eyes; she yelled in anguish when she felt the sharp claws in her arm. She shoved me and stepped aside, saying, "I can't believe you have the courage to insult me this way; you owe us everything! We spared you from being nearly killed by Dark Rogues, and now you're acting like an ungrateful bimbo!"
“I’m not ungrateful, and I just remembered that you are not the one who saved me, it’s your husband, therefore I don’t owe you anything, Emilia! Keep that in your little skull which has an empty brain!”
"I'm going to hunt you out! And beg for mercy on your knees!"
"Oh, I'm so scared! But if you mess with me again, I will do the same to you!"
I said as I eventually walked away. I could feel the seething rage within her, she tightened her fist while looking at me, like she wanted to attack, but she couldn’t. Her lips trembled, and I heard a tremendous growl inside the room. Oh, mother-in-law, I no longer care whether you cry with a growl!
Emilia was the most unpleasant mother-in-law I've ever had; I prayed I would never see her face again, as she has been a burden to me as well as her son.
She makes all decisions for me as if she owns me like a slave. And I appear like a good shepherd who praised her to the extent that I hoped she would soon be kind to me, but that did not happen. She humiliated and insulted me in front of the pack, and they didn't do anything to protect me from my cruel mother-in-law; not even Lucas cared. When he looked me in the eyes, he was both emotionless and expressionless. Now that I'm finally freed from this type of relationship and confinement. I hope everything will be fine and I can forget about Lucas because the past three years were a mess and a waste of time.
Chapter 4
Samantha’s POV
Before leaving, I glanced at Emilia who was so enraged at me. I waited for the cab to arrive, and I'm considering returning to the mansion where I once stayed. I believe I left some important items there, and I must retrieve them before Lucas arrives.
Now, I hate Lucas, because every time I think about him, my blood boils in rage.
Now that I've signed the contract and received the black card, I can finally use my father's power to its fullest extent.
But I cannot simply use it for my benefit; I am not like that.
The black gate shut behind me as the taxi pulled up. I took a long breath and exhaled; I knew I could do it and live alone and be happy without them.
“Frederson’s Mansion…” I said to the driver and he already knows where I’m headed.
The Frederson family was known as one of the country's most powerful families, but humanity was unaware of who they really are, or us.
This generation has long been aware of werewolves, but no one could believe we exist, so we continue to grow and expand alongside humans.
We are not a secret; only humans refuse to acknowledge the truth.
The clean, fresh air that envelops my nostrils is woodsy and reminiscent of my childhood memories. After paying the taxi driver, I exit the vehicle and unlock the front gate with my fingerprints, as I still have access to this mansion.
I walked carefully, and the sound of my heels rang across the area; the maids were gone. "Did Lucas fire everyone? Impossible…" I sensed that someone was inside the house. I smell her distinctive scent; "Jessica..." I muttered to myself. My eyes widened, and opened the front door with one hand.
But the home was empty. I walked up the stairs and rushed upstairs to grab the things that I left in there. I don't want anybody to smell my scent in this house anymore, so I'm taking everything with me.
But as I was taking some things, I heard footsteps heading to my doorway, "Who's there?"
"Guess who!" I heard the familiar sound of the voice of a woman. I sighed deeply and stopped what I was doing. Then I put my belongings on the bed and looked about, but I didn't see anyone. Just when I turned my back, I was startled to see Jessica in front of me.
"What are you doing here?!" I yelled at her angrily.
Jessica's eyes are cast downwards as she examines me from head to toe, and she scoffs gently. As if she were attempting to offend me with her steely gaze. She is wearing a red tube dress that accentuates her attractiveness because her complexion complements the garment and her body is as curvy as an hourglass. No wonder Lucas was so fascinated with her.
I sighed and fought her with my stare also. Jessica bit her lower lip, clicked her tongue, and laughed at me as if I were a clown standing in front of her.
“What’s funny, Jessica?” I fold my arms around my arms while being confused with her.
She laughed bitterly and said, "I don't know, you just look so funny!" She then rubbed her palms together and peered at me, saying, "So the rumor was true, you two were divorced, which is so great! Because you know what? Lucas will always be mine, even in the end; his heart will always belong to me!"
"Of course, I don't need to compete with that, he's all yours, and I no longer care!" I stated calmly and turned my back to collect my things, at which point she approached me from behind and roughly pushed me.
"Jessica, I am not looking for chaos!" I maintain self-control while glancing at her.
"Why? Are you this weak and pathetic? You cannot fight me?!" She said this while showing me her long, sharp claws; her eyes glittered and glowed in the dark. Since the mansion had no lights, I rudely turned on the light and smiled at her. "No matter how much I fight you, it will always be my fault! Therefore, do not test me, Jessica, as I would fight you if I could!" I said while attempting to warn her.
She simply shook her head and laughed again, "I'm the daughter of the Alpha! I possess infinite strength! And you are worthless!" She insults me once more.
"That's why you became a luna, oh...let me check, you were the Useless Luna of the Madcrest Pack, so how does it feel to be useless and unable to even bear the offspring of an Alpha?"
"Is that so? Or is it because he has not touched you or had sex with you since the first day of your marriage? So pathetic…Lucas was only forced to marry you because of his father; if not for his father, you will always remain an outcast, a servant, and a peasant!"
I want to slap her, but I can't because I don't need another complication in my life right now. I attempted to avoid her, but she now stands before me, daring me to act against her.
"Jessica!" I hissed as I uttered her name.
She smiled at me and asked, "Are you terrified of me?"
"I'm not terrified of you!" Then she attempted to block my path, and I shoved her lightly in my rage, but I was surprised when she acted as if I had severely injured her.
I've just realized that Lucas had arrived at our house in a foul mood; his face was dark and gloomy just before I took a step back and gulped in nervousness. I wish I could explain everything to him, but I know he will never believe me no matter what I say or do. He will opt to trust the woman who has kept his heart beating for years.
Lucas ran to help Jessica to get up, the best actress woman really good at pretending that she fell really seriously.
"What the f*ck are you doing, Samantha?!"
“W-what? I didn't do anything—"
I bit the inside of my lower lip as Lucas's footsteps approached, and he roared, "Stop lying to me, Samantha?!"
“Lucas, you need to believe me, why would I lie to you!” I said while my voice was trembling in fear.
"Your heart is beating so fast, you're lying," he stated, causing me to scowl.
"I'm not exaggerating, Lucas! If you want to believe her! Then be it! I just returned here to retrieve some of my belongings, and then she came to annoy me!" I stated while pointing my finger toward Jessica.
Jessica approached Lucas and placed her arms around his waist. Upon seeing them so close together in front of me, I felt a slight irritation in my heart.
"You need to apologize to her, Samantha!"
My jaw dropped as I couldn't believe him saying that.
"What?! Why would I apologize to her?" I shake my head and control back my tears then smile bitterly at them, "I won't! Never!"
