Chapter 4

Three days later, Ethan held a grand medical miracle press conference at the hospital.

Under the flashing lights, Ethan wore a suit and held Rosalie, who had perfect makeup. They looked like a flawless pair.

The banner on the stage read: The Triumph of Love and Science – The Awakening of a Coma Patient.

I stood in the corner and watched them receive cheers and admiration from the crowd.

Ethan held the microphone, looking humble while his eyes revealed pride.

“There was no miracle. I used the latest stimulation therapy. The results proved that only treatment that reached the deepest parts of the mind could awaken a dormant consciousness.”

Rosalie looked at him with affection and took the microphone. Her voice trembled.

“Although I could not move during these three years, I could feel everything. My husband only stayed by my bedside and filled the room with negative energy. It was Dr. Joeman who gave me physical therapy day and night and reignited my hope for life.”

The audience erupted into applause.

Ethan suddenly spotted me. His sharp eyes lit up.

“It just so happens that my former patient’s family member, Mr. Leo Leighton, is here. Please come up.”

The spotlight landed on me.

I did not hesitate. I walked onto the stage and faced the mocking gazes.

Ethan patted my shoulder and spoke to the cameras.

“Everyone, this is the negative example. He was incompetent, which caused the patient to remain in a coma for three years. He did put in physical effort, so we invited him today to show that blind waiting does nothing. Only science and passion can create miracles.”

Rosalie shrank into Ethan’s arms with disgust.

“Leo, hurry up and thank Dr. Joeman. Then get off the stage.”

The audience roared with laughter. Cameras zoomed in on my face, waiting to see me embarrass myself.

I let out a short laugh. “No need for that.”

I pulled a report from my pocket and took the microphone from Ethan.

“Since this is a press conference, we should not hear only one side. I have a pathology report here. I would like all the media and Dr. Joeman to take a look.”

Ethan’s expression shifted. He reached for the report, but I had already plugged a USB drive into the projector.

The screen lit up with a blood analysis report.

The entire hall fell silent.

“Dr. Joeman, you are too humble. This is not only a medical miracle. It is a biological miracle.”

Ethan’s pupils tightened. He froze.

Rosalie, confused and thinking I was bluffing, pointed at me and shouted,

“Leo, you are crazy. Who are you trying to scare with this nonsense?”

“It is fine if you do not understand. I will explain.” I pointed at the highlighted section.

“Congratulations to Dr. Joeman. His intensive treatment not only awakened her but also activated something that had been dormant in her body for three years.”

The audience erupted into chaos.

Rosalie’s face turned pale. Her lips trembled.

“You… You are lying. My skin is just a little rosy…”

“Rosy?” I cut her off with a cold smile and pointed at the index on the report.

“You are not recovering. This is a last burst of clarity before the condition reaches your brainstem.”

I turned to Ethan, who was scratching the back of his hand. My voice was calm.

“To put it simply, there is no cure. You continued your treatment even while injured. So congratulations. You have been affected too.”
