Chapter 1

My name was Rhea Cooke. One day, I had a hypertension attack, but there was no antihypertensive aerosol left at home.

I called Marvin Austin, my husband, who was going home, and asked him to bring me a box of medicine.

When I was gasping for breath and about to faint, he was still nowhere to be seen.

I wanted to call him again but accidentally came across a recommended video.

In the midst of the fireworks, he and Madge Moore embraced each other on the mountaintop, kissing each other passionately.

Their friends around them cheered and threw rose petals at them.

Madge shyly leaned on Marvin's chest, and they looked like a blessed couple.

I endured my throbbing headache and ordered aerosol online.

After the physical symptoms eased, I sat numb until midnight.

I didn't come to my senses until I saw Madge's Instagram post.

In the photo, she was lying in Marvin's arms on the big bed in the hotel, with rosy cheeks and deep affection in her eyes.

She posted, [I haven't seen you for ten years, yet you're still so amazing.]

When Marvin came home, I was sitting on the sofa watching a drama.

He frowned and said, "Rhea, didn't I tell you that you shouldn't waste time watching meaningless soap operas? You're already a grown-up. Stop being so childish."

His tone was full of disdain, and he picked up the remote control and turned off the TV.

Then he handed me a luxury bag as if giving alms.

"Here's your gift. It's this year's new model."

I glanced at it and saw something pink. So, it was something Madge didn't want.

Because I had seen it in Madge's second post. In the photo, this bag was thrown on the floor.

She posted, [My Prince Charming is so cute. He actually gave me a pink dress. After ten years, he still thinks I'd like this old-fashioned color.]

He actually gave me something that Madge despised.

How perfunctory he is!

I couldn't help but feel bitter, yet I kept expressionless and just nodded.

Seeing me like this, he suddenly pulled a long face. "What's that look on your face? I didn't get you the medicine. So what? You're fine, aren't you? Stop being so dramatic!

"It's not like I did it on purpose. I got delayed because of my work. Why are you so unreasonable?

"You should have prepared more medicine at home. Blame yourself for being unlucky."

I sneered.

"You don't remember who accidentally threw my medicine in the trash?"

Marvin was stunned for a second and then hesitantly said, "You put it in the wrong place. I didn't do it on purpose."

I sneered inwardly. That day, when I came home with the medicine, he said he was hungry. I didn't have time to put the medicine away, so I just casually placed it on the cabinet by the door.

There was a pile of neatly arranged express cardboard boxes. I was about to throw them away.

Medicine boxes and express boxes weren't hard to distinguish, were they?

Besides, Madge had come back. Even if I had died that night, he would still go.

His voice softened. "Forget it. Sorry. It's my fault. Let it pass."

As he said, he sat down and wanted to hug me.

A faint fragrance of flowers came from him, making me feel nauseous. I moved aside.

He didn't get to hug me and started to be annoyed again.

"Rhea, I have already apologized and given in. What else do you want me to do? Do you want me to kneel and apologize to you?

"I hate the most when you act all cold and dismissive. Do I owe you something?"

Seeing how frustrated he was, I calmly said.

"Is the view from the top beautiful tonight?"

He was stunned at first, and then his face turned sullen, and he yelled at me angrily.

"Are you following me?

"I didn't tell you precisely because you were always so paranoid. But I didn't expect you to be this jealous.

"You said you had a hypertensive attack? I think it's just an excuse because you wanted me back. If you were really that sick, would you have the energy to follow me?

"Living in the same space with you is simply terrifying. Reflect on yourself at home."

Chapter 2

In less than an hour, Madge posted on Instagram again.

In the photo, she and Marvin made a hand heart, and judging from the background, they were at the airport.

Again, she attached some words.

[I said I was in a bad mood, and my Prince Charming took me on a trip. I love his decisiveness and high efficiency!]

Just after arguing with me, he happily went on a trip with Madge.

I couldn't help but think of the countless times I told him that I wanted to travel.

Every time, he either said he was busy or came up with various excuses to stall me.

Or he'd blame me out of anger and say I only cared about having fun and had no desire to advance.

And the result was, we had never traveled after being married for ten years.

What hurt me even more was the comment from Marvin.

[I promised you that I'd only travel with you in this lifetime. See? I kept my promise.]

So, this was the reason why he had never traveled with me.

It was because he had made a promise to another woman.

What did I do wrong?

I used to wonder if I didn't appreciate how hard he worked.

I was so stupid.

His comment was like a heavy blow, hitting my chest, making it almost impossible for me to breathe, and making me completely sober from this unequal marriage from beginning to end.

After sitting alone all night, I decided to talk with him properly.

I called him, and it rang for a long time before he answered.

As soon as he spoke, his tone was impatient. He said, "You know you're wrong so soon?

"Apologize to me sincerely and promise not to make similar mistakes again, and then I will consider forgiving you."

I sneered. He thought I was going to apologize to him?

I must have been so lowly in his eyes, which was why he felt he could disrespect me however he wanted.

I calmly said.

"I'm not calling to apologize. I have something to say to you..."

He interrupted before I finished speaking in a cold voice.

"I thought you had changed. It seems I overestimated you. You made mistakes and don't repent. What tricks are you playing now?

"I'm on a business trip and engaged in important matters. Don't..."

At the same time, I heard a painful cry on the other end of the line. It was Madge's voice.

I heard a snap sound. It seemed the phone was dropped on the ground, but the call wasn't hung up.

The sounds from the other end of the line came clearly into my ears.

Marvin nervously and gently asked, "Madge, what happened?"

Madge's voice was soft and tender. "I slipped and fell while taking a shower."

"Are you hurt? Let me go in and have a look."

"You're so bad! I haven't put on my clothes yet."

"Madge, I've seen every part of you..."

Not long after, she started to moan, and her voice was mixed with his low roar.

I knew what was going on and hung up the phone.

I no longer wanted such a disgusting man.

In the next few days, Madge kept posting on Instagram.

There were photos of them enjoying food in fancy restaurants and making a hand heart while watching the sunset together.

One photo stood out. In the photo, under the snow-capped mountains, they looked back at each other with deep affection, and they were only a fingertip away from kissing. They looked totally intimate.

Her words attached were, [The luckiest thing for me is that I come back ten years later, and you still love me as before.]

Marvin's comment was, [I waited for you for ten years, and finally, you are back.]

They showed off their love as if they were a couple who had been separated for ten years, finally breaking through the obstacles and then showing off their love crazily.

They went to Switzerland, the place I had always wanted to go with him.

I remembered that I came across a short video one day, which described Switzerland and its beautiful scenery. The words attached were extremely beautiful.

[There is a place called Switzerland, where I want to go with my beloved, to see the blue sky, the white snow-capped mountains, the golden grassland, and a fairy tale of autumn...]

Excitedly, I showed the video to Marvin, telling him that I wanted to go there with him.

But he glanced at it indifferently and said with a stern face, "Can you stop fantasizing all the time? These are all tricks to deceive fools like you. It seems pretty, but it's all video effects. This isn't real."

I felt like being poured with a bucket of cold water.

Since then, I never mentioned to him about wanting to travel.

My heart ached as if it had been pricked by countless needles.

I decided not to let myself fall into this kind of pain again.

I sent a message to Marvin, [Let's get divorced.]

Soon, he called me.

Suppressing his anger, he questioned me, "What's this about again? Why are you acting crazy? I asked you to reflect, and this is the result of your reflection? Using divorce to make a scene?

"I know. It's all because I didn't get you the medicine. You're very much alive, aren't you? Do you have to make such a big deal out of it?

"Don't go too far. I only have limited patience."

At this moment, Madge's charming voice rang out. "Marvin, I want to eat ice cream. Go buy it for me."

Marvin said hastily, "Think about it. I have things to do."

Then he hung up the phone.

Chapter 3

I sent him the electronic version of the divorce agreement and screenshots of Madge's Instagram and then started packing my luggage.

I got rid of everything in the house that symbolized our ridiculous relationship.

I burned the photos we took together and threw away the gifts that he bought for me.

In the end, I only packed enough items to fill a suitcase.

As I opened the door and with the suitcase, Marvin hurriedly got out of the car.

Seeing my suitcase, without saying a word, he kicked it over, and the items inside were scattered all over the place.

He was furious. He widened his eyes, grabbed my arm, and shouted angrily.

"Rhea, are you crazy? You're still threatening me with divorce because of such a trivial matter?

"I admit that I didn't work overtime, but Madge and I were just traveling. It's not what you think.

"I went on a trip with Madge, and you want a divorce? How will others think of her? Why are you so selfish? Why can't you show some concern about other's reputations?"

His words made me laugh.

She was single, yet she traveled with a married man. What kind of reputation did she expect to have?

I packed my luggage again and was about to leave, but he stood in front of me, looking at me angrily.

"Rhea, I've made it very clear. Why are you still being so unreasonable? You won't stop until everyone knows about it? Is that it?"

A crisp sound rang out.

I slapped him hard.

"Just because I didn't say anything, you think I'm a fool? You won't admit it unless I say everything out loud, will you?"

I showed him the video that the passerby had taken of him and Madge kissing passionately.

"Stop accusing me of following you. I'm not that idle.

"You're still lying to me at this point. You're so pathetic."

He stared at the video, still struggling.

"Madge came back from France. It's more open there. It's polite for old friends to kiss when they meet. You're just ignorant."

I looked at him mockingly and played the recording.

"You still refuse to admit that you cheated on me? Are you saying that you made these sounds while you were watching porn with her?"

Marvin was stunned on the spot, and he had lost the momentum just now. His mouth opened, but he couldn't say a word.

I disdainfully glanced at him.

"You're such a coward. You don't even dare to admit what you've done.

"Remember to sign.

"Also, when you kissed, your tongue was in her mouth. Don't insult French culture. They don't stick their tongue down their friend's throat."

Then I left while dragging my tattered suitcase. He stood still and didn't move.

Several days after I moved into the apartment I had stayed in before I married Marvin, he came to me.

I thought he came to apologize, but he slapped me hard as soon as he arrived.

With bloodshot eyes full of anger, he shouted "Rhea, I thought you were just playing tricks. But you're so vicious! You actually led someone to hurt Madge!

"How could you be so cold-blooded? Even though I've done something wrong to you, feel free to come at me. Why target Madge? What did she do wrong to you?

"How could you be so cruel to someone as innocent and kind as her?"

My cheek was burning, and my mind was in a daze. I looked at Marvin in disbelief.

"I took someone to beat up Madge? What proof do you have?"

Marvin looked at me with disdain and coldly said.

"Madge told me, of course. Do you think she would falsely accuse you for no reason?"

I sneered inwardly. So, the proof he had was Madge's words.

We had been married for ten years, but he had no faith in me at all.

My nose tingled with sourness. "So, you just assumed it was me without asking me."

"You are cunning and full of tricks. Of course, it was you.

"Do you think Madge would beat herself up just to frame you?"

"Marvin, don't give Rhea a hard time. She did it because she loves you so much."

Madge walked with a limp, leaning on a crutch. Her face was bruised and swollen, indicating that she was seriously injured indeed.

I couldn't help but frown. I didn't lay a hand on her, so how did she get injured like this?

Marvin snorted, "You've got nothing to say now, right? You wicked woman! Kneel and apologize to Madge, or I'll call the police."

"I didn't bring anyone to beat her. Call the police now so that they can get to the bottom of this."

Marvin's face twisted out of anger, and he angrily accused me with wide eyes.

"You're so foolishly stubborn. Just wait! I'm calling the police now to have you arrested."

I remained calm and said, "Go ahead. If you don't call the police, I'll call you a coward forever."

Panic flashed across Madge's face as she saw Marvin was really about to call the police.

"Don't call the police!"

Marvin was puzzled. "Why?"

Madge forced a smile. "If you do, Rhea will never forgive you. I don't want to affect your relationship because of me.

"Besides, this is a criminal case. If it really goes to court, she'll go to jail, which might affect the future of your future kids.

"I just want her to apologize to me. There's no need to make such a big fuss."

Madge became more and more aggrieved as she spoke, and tears streamed down her face.

Marvin felt extremely distressed as he saw her like that.

His eyes were filled with anger and killing intent when he turned to look at me.

He pointed at me, his eyes turning bloodshot with anger. "Madge is so kind and always considers you, but you still refuse to repent. You're such a hopeless case."

Before I could say anything, he kicked me in the back of my knee, and I fell to the floor with a bang.

I couldn't help but gasp because of the great pain.

Marvin disdainfully curled up his lips and said, "Too much for you already? Madge's wounds hurt a hundred times more than yours.

"Apologize to her now!"

I looked at him angrily. "I didn't do anything wrong. Why should I apologize?"

After saying that, I was about to get up, but he pressed down on my head to prevent me from doing so.

"You refuse to repent after making a mistake. Rhea, you really disgust me."

He pulled my hair and forcefully pressed my head to the floor.

"Apologize to Madge!"

I resisted with all my strength, refusing to give in even if my hair was about to be pulled out.

Madge fanned the flames.

"Marvin, forget it. It seems that Rhea doesn't want to apologize to me at all."

Marvin became even angrier after hearing that and kicked me in the stomach.

The pain in my stomach made me bend over, and Marvin took the opportunity to press my head to the floor, making a loud thud.

He kept banging my head against the floor, and the pain made my head buzz.

He didn't stop until he had banged my head countless times.

I was in pain all over and sweating cold, and as soon as he let go, I curled up on the floor in pain.

Madge anxiously said, "Marvin, she looks so pale. Should we take her to the hospital?"

Marvin spat, sneered at me, and said fiercely.

"Her head gets banged a few times. How painful could it be? Don't worry."

Then he left with Madge in his arms.

I called the police at once.
