Chapter 2

"No, when I see Joe later, I must make it clear to him!"

I quickly let her lower her voice.

At the entrance of the venue, Joe walked over slowly with his fiancee.

The wind blew by. Tears well up in my eyes. I was so sad.

  I turned my face away.

  "Alana, come here!"

Joe paused and stopped somewhere ten steps away. He invited his fiancee to get in the car as elegantly as he could.

"I'm not leaving!" Joe's fiancee was full of anger.

"Don't worry. I won't have anything to do with her anymore. In my heart, any of your words matter the most!"

Hearing Joe's promise, his fiancee smiled happily.

I told Hollie not to say anything as I ran over with great joy.

"Joe, are you calling for me?"

I didn't care that he had a new girlfriend, nor did I care that he hated me.

I was going to die anyway.

At the end of my life, I wanted to say a few words to Joe and say goodbye to him.

  "You are in dire straits!"

Joe sized me up briefly, looking as indifferent as ever. He then said, "No wonder you came to me. Are you short of money?"

"Well, if you hadn't been so greedy for wealth, you wouldn't have become what you are today!"

"Alana, how much do you want from me?"

A series of questions from him overwhelmed me.

My thoughts drifted back to ten years ago when Joe finally got a chance to go abroad for further study.

  At the airport...

  ...

"Alana, where are you? I'm about to board the plane. Why didn't you send me off?"

  "Joe, let's break up."

"My dad doesn't want our relationship to continue..."

"You should have a better future, but I shouldn't be a part of it. You know. I have my future!"

I was a little incoherent, which Joe might not have been able to tell.

At this moment, I was holding my father's ashes in my arms. When I spoke, it would affect the wound on my face.

The pain was a little heart-wrenching.

"Alana, how can you say so at this time? Joe said he wouldn't board the flight without seeing you."

Joe's friend tried his best to persuade me.

"Since she has made it so clear, what else is there to say?"

"Alana, are you so cruel? If you are not a part of my future, there is no sense in me going abroad!"

"Go ahead. I don't want you to see me again. I wish you all the best!"

I couldn't bear to hang up the phone. The sound of something smashing on the ground came from the other end.

I knew that from that moment on, he hated me.

I didn't dare to look up at Joe into his eyes. The doctor said that I wouldn't make it past three months.

In the end, a miracle would never happen in the end. There was no need to break the current balance.

It was not a big deal to make him hate me.

  However...

In the end, I couldn't let go of something.

I wanted to stay with him for a few more seconds.

"What happened to the scar on your face?"

Finally, Joe noticed the change in me.

"No wonder you were in such a sorry state. You are disfigured. Otherwise, with your appearance from before, you wouldn't have been in such a state!"

Joe patted the back of his fiancee's hand. The two of them looked at each other and smiled.

"Perhaps they will be happier by making fun of me like this."

  "I'm sorry to disturb you!"

  I wanted to leave.

When I turned around, Joe suddenly grabbed my arm.

The memories surfaced in my mind.

Chapter 3

"Alana, I'll take you to have dessert."

"Alana, let's go watch a movie!"

"Alana, are you feeling better today?"

Joe was as gentle as water.

The intense pain in my wrist pulled me back to reality.

He should be angry. Raising his eyebrows, he looked scary.

"Joe, you're hurting me!" I wanted to remind him.

There was a surge of heart-wrenching pain in my stomach. It seemed someone wanted to torture me to death.

Fortunately, the pain in my wrist made him ignore the sweat on my forehead.

After a while, Joe let go of me.

"Alana, you indeed can't make a living by yourself. I'll give you the money. Name your price. After all, we knew each other!"

  He was teasing me.

"Joe, promise me that you won't miss her anymore!" His fiancee was upset.

"It's just a job as a servant. Miss Ward used to be pampered. I don't think she will agree."

Hearing this, his fiancee seemed to have realized what was going on. She smiled sarcastically.

  "I agree!"

I began to pack my things happily.

Hollie stuffed painkillers into my suitcase.

"Are you willing to go there after being insulted by Joe?"

Hollie puffed up her cheeks in anger.

"Don't go, Alana. I won't allow you. That bastard made you like this. Has he ever been grateful to you?"

Rory Cox rushed over and grabbed my wrist, trying to grab my suitcase.

  "Rory, you hurt me!"

My voice was a little weak. Rory subconsciously let go of his hand.

"I'm sorry, Alana. I didn't do it on purpose!"

  "Rory, don't stop her!"

Hollie pulled Rory away and pulled him to the side.

I lowered my head and continued sorting out my belongings.

Joe should have hated me very much, but it was not his fault. If I was abandoned by the person I loved deeply, I would hate him to the core.

I found a suitable excuse for myself so that I could justify myself.

Hollie hid in the kitchen with Rory, whispering to him, "Why didn't Joe ask Alana why she suddenly disappeared when he left?"

  ...

"At that time, her face was wrapped in bandages, and she had been hospitalized for more than a month. If it weren't for him, would Alana have suffered such a serious injury?"

"He hasn't even inquired about her all these years. I think he's an ungrateful person!"

"Rory, you don't understand Alana's thoughts..." Hollie sighed as she continued, "Just let her be. She has only three months left."

Yes, there were only three months left for me.

Hollie and Rory had always been taking care of me.

When I was hospitalized, Joe happened to get a chance to go abroad for further study. He had been busy for a month.

There were very few contacts between us.

So, I decided to keep it a secret.

"If Joe finds out that you're with me now, I wonder if he'll still want you!"

"Alana, isn't your father well-informed? Why can't he do it now?"

"It is funny. You didn't expect to end up like this, right? You offended me for Joe!"

"Bitch! How dare you bite me?"

As the glass was stabbed fiercely, the table was filled with blood.

For some reason, my face hurt.

As time went by, the scar gradually faded away.

Rory said that he would do his best to find the best doctor for me, and I would get better.

I doubted if everything would get better as time passed by.

Chapter 4

Hollie called me, "Alana, it's time to eat!"

After breakfast, Hollie drove me to Joe's villa not far away.

At the same time, she reminded me to take my medicine. If I was not happy, I could go back to her side at any time.

In Joe's eyes, I was just a servant.

Unexpectedly, he was at home alone.

He wore silk pajamas and opened the door lazily. He sounded extremely mean.

"Alana, you've indeed changed. I thought you wouldn't come."

I smiled and wanted to smile gently before starting a conversation.

  But the next moment...

He said, "Since you're here, don't be idle. Make a sumptuous breakfast every day. When it's ready, clean up the house. Don't slack off!"

He was indifferent. Besides, there was strong hatred in his eyes. He hated me to his bones uncontrollably.

Rather than saying that I had changed, it would be more accurate to say that he had changed. He was no longer who he had been ten years ago.

All my words were stuck in my throat. I couldn't say anything.

I put down my luggage and began to make breakfast for him.

I had learned how to cook because of the sudden changes in my family.

As far as I could remember, Joe's favorite breakfast was milk and eggs.

I carefully washed the eggs, boiled the hot water, and opened a packet of milk from the refrigerator.

Joe watched my every move strictly.

I wanted to talk to him.

Unfortunately, my stomach cancer started torturing me again.

The heart-wrenching pain forced me to slow down. I was powerless to deal with Joe's nagging.

"Originally, you should have a share of everything I have now."

"However, you chose to give up on me when I was the closest to success!"

"Yes. I should thank you for taking care of me in college, but it's also because of you that I understand the feeling of hating someone so much!"

"Alana, do you regret your decision back then?"

Joe was in urgent need of an answer from me, which made him a little anxious.

As a result, he couldn't see clearly how hard I had tried to bring breakfast to the table per his request.

I felt like I was about to faint.

But I cherished the rest of my life, especially the time I spent with Joe.

  "Joe, here is your breakfast!"

Beads of sweat rolled down my forehead, rendering me nervous from avoiding his questions.

The breakfast that I had spent so much effort preparing was nothing in front of Joe. He had gone mad after failing to get an answer.

"I don't need the trash you prepare!"

He roared and waved his hand, smashing everything on the table into pieces.

"Ouch!" I cried out in surprise. Joe gripped my wrist tightly.

The powerful force made my vision darken.

"Answer me. If you're not here to repent and beg for my forgiveness, what's your purpose?"

"You're wearing this to show that you still have feelings for me!"

"Alana, say something. I can give you money so that you can at least live a better life!"

Joe tore at my neck desperately with his hand, and he tore off a red rope.

It was a necklace made of gold, which was not valuable. He gifted it to me at college.

I had always regarded what Joe had given me as a treasure.

  "Give it back to me!"

I mustered up all my courage, trying to get it back.

"Why are you still wearing it? It's just an item for you to please me!"

Joe smashed the necklace to the ground indifferently, shattering it into several pieces.

  "My necklace..."

I went crazy and wanted to collect the pieces.

Now, I had nothing left. The only thing I wanted to bring before my death was this necklace.

But Joe shattered such a slim hope.

The pain in my stomach was stronger in an instant.

  Joe dragged me up forcefully.

"Alana, you look so stupid now. We're both adults now. Just say what you want. Why do you play such a trick?"

Joe gently strangled my neck, forcing me to look up.

The suffocating feeling made me almost faint. Tears streamed down my face.

When I was about to fall into a coma, I felt that Joe was going to crush me and do whatever he wanted.
