Chapter 1
After being abroad for half a year, I went back home to see my fiancee. However, I was stopped at a parking lot by a random man yelling at me.
I tried to shrug him off, but he arrogantly retorted, “Don’t you know who I am? Vanessa Whitecastle is my wife. If you’re smart, you’ll do what I say.”
I stood in place and looked at him. Then, I made a phone call, “Are you seeing another man, Vanessa?”
The second I hung up the phone, Josh Blakely kicked my car. “I was talking to you! Are you deaf?”
I frowned as I watched a scuff mark appear on my beloved, twenty-million-dollar car. “Do all the people at Righteous Holdings act so unreasonably?”
“I’ll show you reasonable, dude! At Righteous Holdings, everything I do is reasonable!”
Seeing how arrogant and out of control he was, I dumped the car keys at his feet.
“I’m not listening to you!”
Josh raised an eyebrow and then made to punch me.
“How dare you throw things at me? Who gave you the nerve? I won’t let you leave this parking lot!”
I found the threat of keeping me here laughable. No one in the city of Genera dared to speak to a member of the Day family this way.
I scoffed and pointed at Josh. “I’d love to see how you’ll achieve that.”
When I said this, all the passersby were taken aback. They looked at me in disbelief, as if I had done something completely shocking.
Josh laughed. He waved a hand, summoning more than half a dozen burly bodyguards.
“Teach him a lesson for me. Teach him who’s in charge in Genera!”
After he said this, I felt a huge blow to my abdomen, and the pain was so intense that my vision went dark.
The bodyguards held me in place, and their fists rained down on my chest.
They hit me so hard that I could not help but curl inward, but they mercilessly straightened my body again.
“Stop! I’m Vanessa Whitecastle’s fiance!” I yelled through my pain. “I’m the only heir of the Day family in Genera! How dare you treat me this way? You’re going to be done for!”
When they heard this, the bodyguards and everyone nearby burst into laughter.
Josh had his bodyguards hold me up so he could land a kick to my stomach himself.
My stomach flipped from the blow.
Josh clamped his hand around my throat. His gaze was sinister. “Who’s this imposter throwing his weight around? You, the heir of the Day family? I’ll believe it when I see it!
“I’m Vanessa’s husband. If I hear you claim to be her fiance again, I’ll cripple you!”
I scoffed to myself. Even if I did not like the marriage arrangement my family made for me, I was insulted that Vanessa’s lover dared to identify himself in my presence.
It was preposterous!
Josh’s hands were like a metal vice around my neck.
Before I could lose consciousness, I managed to headbutt Josh, making blood gush from his nose.
Using this opportunity, I shoved the bodyguard holding me up. Once I got out of the hold, I rushed at Josh and started hitting him.
He howled as I landed punch after punch on him.
Everyone was stunned that I had suddenly managed to fight back.
“Where in the world did my bodyguards disappear to?”
When they saw their employer being beaten up, the bodyguards quickly rushed over.
In the scuffle, they were able to restrain me again.
Josh got up and grabbed a nearby road barrier. He used it to hit me.
“Beat him up! I’ll handle the fallout!”
Punches landed all over my back.
The hard hits landed so violently that I suddenly heard a clear crack in my back.
Right then, I heard an angry voice that made everyone go still. “Stop!”
Chapter 2
I heard the sound of high-heeled footsteps coming from behind me. I turned around and saw Vanessa hurry over with a furious expression on her face.
When she looked around and found the bodyguards who had been hitting me, she frowned.
However, when she saw Josh with his bloody nose, her expression turned worried.
“What happened? Who hit you?”
When Vanessa showed up, Josh’s voice instantly turned soft.
“Nessa, you have to help me!”
“What in the world happened here? Who dares to beat someone else up in the Whitecastle family’s territory?”
She turned to look straight at me.
When I met her shocked gaze, I sighed and struggled to get up.
“You got here right on time, Vanessa! This involves our marriage arrangement. You have to give me an—”
She slapped me before I could finish speaking. The sting of it rooted me to the spot.
“Redmond Day, how dare you hit my husband? Do you have a death wish?”
Looking at Josh, I laughed out of anger and disbelief. I pointed at Vanessa and said, “What gives him the right to call the shots here? Have you gone mad?”
“Josh doesn’t have any bad intentions here. You’re the one who’s gone overboard, Redmond! I never agreed to the marriage arrangement. Why have you come to cause a fuss here?”
I looked at the necklace she wore around her neck. It was called the “Pearl of the Ocean.” My mother had spent fifty million dollars at an auction to get it as an engagement gift for Vanessa.
“You didn’t agree to it? Then, why are you wearing that necklace?”
Vanessa laughed in disdain at that.
“I never asked the Day family for a single cent. It was your family that threw all this money at me. Besides, as my supposed fiance, shouldn’t you be giving me things?”
I was stunned by her twisted logic. Who did she think she was?
“Well, if you’re so disdainful of the engagement gifts we gave you, you can just reject the marriage offer!”
The Day family did not need the money we spent on her, but I was always disgusted by this kind of greed.
Vanessa was shocked that I yelled at her and stumbled a step back. Josh quickly held her steady.
“You’re pregnant, Nessa. You should be more careful. It’s not worth it to get worked up because of that guy.”
My temper flared again after hearing this.
How could Vanessa become pregnant with some other man’s baby when she was supposed to be engaged to me?
“You’d better return all of the Day family’s engagement gifts as soon as possible!”
Vanessa replied, sounding flabbergasted, “Don’t you have a heart, Redmond? I got pregnant while I was still engaged to you! Shouldn’t you take some responsibility? I’ll dissolve the engagement, but I’m not returning the gifts!”
I scoffed and walked menacingly toward her.
Coldly, I said, “You’re greedy, and your man is relying on you because of me. Don’t you both just want the Day family’s money? Well, I’m telling you now that you’re not getting it!”
After comforting Vanessa, Josh grabbed a bodyguard’s baton with a vicious look in his eyes. He swung the baton at me.
“You think you’re so great just because you have money! You’re just a poser!”
I wanted to hit back, but a couple of bodyguards restrained me once again.
“Hit him! Show him who’s in charge!”
The baton landed hard on my body and split my skin.
The bodyguards did not dare to go too far, but Josh kept aiming the baton at my head.
Blood streamed down my face, and I was beaten to a pulp.
Seeing how badly hurt I was getting, the passersby all scrambled away, looking worried.
“Learned your lesson now, punk?”
My body was at its limit. Meanwhile, when she saw me bloodied, Vanessa waved a hand in disgust.
“Enough. He’s learned his lesson.”
She walked forward to stand before me. Condescendingly, she said, “You don’t know how much Josh has suffered because of the marriage arrangement between us. The engagement gifts are just small forms of compensation, and they’ll be used to raise our baby. I still haven’t paid you back for the grief Josh has gone through.”
“How can you be so unreasonable?” I demanded.
“You don’t need to explain anything to this sort of person, Vanessa. He will never understand the love we have,” Josh said.
Seeing the two of them disgusted me. I was already determined to destroy the Whitecastle family.
“How dare you let them do this to me, Vanessa? Do you want to drag your family down with you?”
Chapter 3
When she heard this, Vanessa chuckled as if she had heard a joke. “Two years ago, I might have considered the reputation of our two families. Now, though, the Day family is nothing!
“The Whitecastle Group has gotten countless contracts in the past two years. We’re leaders in all industries. Your family only holds a couple of assets. You became irrelevant ages ago. ”
I swallowed a mouthful of blood and glared at her. “Without the Day family, no one would ever have taken the Whitecastle Group seriously! You think too much of yourself!”
Vanessa had no clue that the Whitecastle Group only got all those partnerships because the Day Group vouched for them.
I could not believe that Vanessa would think the Whitecastle Group owned Genera just because the company got a few measly contracts.
At that thought, I burst into laughter at their ignorance.
Josh was furious when he heard what I said. He grabbed me by the hair and said threateningly, “Don’t think you have any power here, Redmond! Be a good boy and just dissolve the engagement. If you don’t, you’re not getting out of here in one piece.”
Vanessa added, “You’re not only going to dissolve the engagement, Redmond. You also need to apologize to Josh. I want you to feel the shame Josh went through because of you!”
As they stood together and stared down at me, the pair ordered the bodyguards to release me.
After all the beatings I suffered, my body felt weak. My vision was blurred from the blood running into my eyes.
“Were you hit in the head? I told you to apologize!”
Josh kicked the back of my knees, sending me to the cold, hard ground. I landed so hard that I almost felt my knees crack.
“I will make the Whitecastle family disappear from Genera today.”
When he saw the poor, bloodied state I was in, Josh chuckled.
“Have you gone mad, Redmond? Do you know how powerful the Whitecastle family is now? Do you think it’s as weak as it used to be?”
Vanessa huffed and said mockingly, “Let me tell you something. Genera belongs to the Whitecastle family now!”
I snickered and took my phone from my pocket with a shaking hand.
I told my assistant, “Mr. Turner, I want all of the Whitecastle family’s businesses to be bankrupt within two hours. Let’s see if Genera really does belong to the Whitecastle family!”
On the other end of the line, Henry Turner was aghast. Who had offended Redmond so badly?
Had the Whitecastle family gone nuts?
Seeing me make my phone call as if they were not even there, Josh clicked his tongue. He walked over to me.
“You can settle this by just apologizing. Why do you have to take it so far? We’re being very merciful already!”
Seeing how injured I was, Josh was at least a little careful. He only grabbed me by the hair as he threatened me.
I kicked Josh in the stomach and shouted, “Get lost! Who needs your mercy?”
Josh was sent stumbling back into Vanessa.
Suddenly, Vanessa started bleeding.
I laughed at this.
“This is exactly what you deserve!”
