Chapter 1
My wife's soul mate had Rh negative blood just like me. In order to make my wife happy, he donated his bone marrow to me then committed suicide. I was put on the blame for his death. Everyone blamed me for killing him. My wife who received his suicide note went crazy. She started to draw blood from my body. She was extremely cruel. "You owe that to me. He would not have died if not because of you. I am only returning to him something that did not belong to you." When the soul mate reappeared, my wife started looking for me like crazy. She did not know that I had died for losing too much blood.
The weather was clear on the day I died.
The villa, surrounded by high and mighty walls, was unusually lively.
The private doctor that my wife, Nicole White, hired drew a tube of blood from me. He dialed her mobile number nervously when he saw my pale yet angry face.
"Ms. White, are we really drawing all the blood to be donated to the children from Mr. Hawkins? His condition doesn't look good. His life will be in danger if I continue to draw blood…"
Nicole did not care that my life would be in danger. She interrupted impatiently, "He didn't care that Simon's life would be in danger when he asked Simon to donate bone marrow to him."
I lay on the bed, pale and weak. I stared at the illuminating screen of the doctor's mobile phone and said, "Nicole, I will die."
I was holding on to the last straw of hope. I thought she would change her mind.
However, she did not. She just sneered, "It's best if you die."
She hung up the phone heartlessly.
Blood flowed out of my body, one tube after another. The blood loss was silently consuming me.
I lay quietly in the dark. People were speaking continuously.
"He seems to be dying. Should we notify Ms. White?"
"What is there to tell her? If it weren't for him, Mr. Gray wouldn't have died. He's a murderer; it's best if he dies."
"That's right. Ms. White hopes that he'll die soon, too, to repay his life with Mr. Gray's."
"Mr. Gray was too pitiful. He was such a kind person, and he treated us well. He committed suicide because of him."
Their voices disappeared gradually.
The world became quiet.
I knew that I had died. There was nothing left.
A desire suddenly surged in my heart as I realized I was floating in the air and saw my body lying quietly in the dark.
I wanted to tell everyone in the world my thoughts. 'I didn't cause Simon's death!'
Chapter 2
Nicole and I were childhood sweethearts, but Simon was her soul mate.
Nicole and I had been engaged since we were young. I told everyone since I was little that she was my future wife.
As such, she was the only one I had loved over my 30 years of life.
Things were different for Nicole. She went to study abroad and met Simon.
During those years abroad, she did all kinds of rebellious things. She used all her courage to love Simon and was secretly engaged to him. It was not until her parents found out about it that they forced her to return and married me.
She always cried during that period.
I did not say anything. I only stayed by her side silently.
She was still hoping that Simon would take her away until the eve of our wedding, but he did not appear.
That day, she sat on the balcony, disappointed, for the entire night. She turned and looked at me and said, "Ray Hawkins, I will never fall in love with you."
I did not take what she said seriously at the beginning.
Eventually, she was pregnant. I was happy that I would be a father soon. However, she aborted the baby without informing anyone.
I rushed to the hospital as soon as possible. I saw her hysterically crying as Simon held her.
It was then that I knew that she would never fall in love with me.
Our marriage was a matter between two families.
I did not say anything as Simon and her got closer. The White family then found out about their affair.
I was seriously ill at that time. The pain I endured left me with no time to care about anything else.
The next time I saw Nicole again was after I had a bone marrow transplant.
Nicole threw a suicide note in my face. "Ray, what the hell did you say to Simon?"
I read the letter. Then, I realized what Nicole was thinking. Simon, who had the same Rh-negative blood as I did, had donated his bone marrow for my transfusion.
Furthermore, he told Nicole that he did not want to be a homewrecker who everyone would despise. He did not want to be the one to destroy our family.
To make Nicole and me happy, Simon chose to commit suicide at an unknown, quiet place.
Simon also told Nicole not to go looking for him.
There was no way for me to deny anything with such an allegation imposed on me.
Nicole strangled my neck as she frantically yelled that everything was all my fault. She then imprisoned me in the mansion that belonged to Simon and her.
Every day, countless people would come to draw my blood.
My blood would be donated to anyone who needed Rh-negative blood.
If there were no need for the day, my blood would be treated as wastewater and poured casually on the withered roses.
No one felt sorry for me. Everyone thought that I deserved it.
They thought I deserved to die.
Chapter 3
My body started to rot in that dark little room.
The stench of a rotten corpse became unbearable to the housekeeper and helpers.
Finally, someone said, "Why don't we report this to Ms. White?"
"Forget it," another person who disagreed said. "Didn't Ms. White already give the order not to notify her when he died? She felt it would be unlucky for her."
"But someone has to collect the body."
Then, the helper called Nicole.
Nicole was very busy at that moment. She quickly picked up the phone and said impatiently, "What is he trying to do now?"
The helper paused slightly. She felt awkward as she softly said, "Ms. White, do you have time to come here? Mr. Hawkins—"
"I have no time," Nicole said coldly. "What's wrong? Is he asking for a divorce again? Or is he saying that he was wronged? He'll always make excuses for himself, pretending to be pitiful to annoy others—"
"No," the helper interrupted her immediately. "Mr. Hawkins is dead."
There was finally a brief pause at the other end of the line. Next, a rustling sound was heard.
Nicole seemed to have moved to a quieter place.
Next, she said angrily, "Did he bribe you?"
"No, Ms. White. I didn't—"
"How much money did he offer to get you to team up with him to lie to me?"
Nicole sneered, "A sinful person like him should have a long life. I don't believe that drawing a little blood from him can kill him. What he's doing now is utterly disgusting. He's really vicious. Sometimes, I wonder if his blood will taint those children's purity!"
The girl trembled when she heard that. She could not respond at all. She could only nod and said, "Yes—"
The stench of the rotten corpse continued to penetrate their noses.
Another helper asked, "Ms. White, if Mr. White dies, what should we do with his belongings?"
"What do you mean?" Nicole sneered, "Just throw them away!"
I did not have many personal belongings in the villa. After all, it belonged to Nicole and Simon.
There were traces of Simon's life everywhere.
The bathroom contained his-and-hers toothbrushes, towels, and slippers, and the closet contained suits and shirts in Simon's size.
I was in such a large space, yet my belongings could be gathered into a single box. I had nothing valuable there.
The only valuable thing I possessed was a medical scan that I carried with me and a set of baby clothes I bought.
"Why is there a pregnancy scan here?" The man pinched his nose and said, "There is also a set of baby clothes here."
"What bad luck!" They threw the baby clothes into the trash can. "Just burn it!"
The flames broke out instantly, and the receipt started to catch fire.
My blood was boiling. I could not control the calmness I had tried to maintain earlier, so I rushed forward.
That was my child, who had only existed in the world for three short months.
My child was murdered by his mother not long after he was conceived.
The scan was the only trace of his existence. The last trace of him was about to be wiped out completely.
I wailed in despair as I stretched my hand toward the raging fire. However, I could only reach past the blazing flames.
I finally realized that I was already dead.
My existence in the world was wiped out at the same time, too. The scan and the baby clothes turned to ashes. It was as if they had never existed.
