Chapter 1

My father died in a car accident. During the cremation, I noticed a knife scar over his heart.

I sent my assistant to investigate and he returned with a pile of surgical consent forms.

My dad's heart had been transplanted into my best friend. And the relative who signed the consent? My fiancé, Clayton Aiken.

I called to confront him and his tone was calm and indifferent, he said, "Sorry, Angelina is pregnant and we couldn't find a matching donor."

He added, "Your dad was already dead anyway, no point letting the heart go to waste. Think of it as a gift to his grandson, he'd be happy."

My nails dug into my palms, the sharp pain made me dizzy.

He paused, then spoke again, "Don't worry. Angelina promised she won't come between us. The pregnancy was an accident. Once the baby's born, it'll be registered under your name, you'll be the only mother."

He said again, "It's just eight months. Bear with it. I have to take care of Angelina for now. Let me know once the wedding's set." The call ended and my heart was brutally torn apart.

I changed SIM cards and called my handler. I said, "I agree to the marriage proposal. Let me use your darknet."

The person on the other line asked, "What for?"

I answered, "To erase the right of my enemy's child to be born."

——

Silence followed. Then he chuckled lightly and asked, "What, didn't you once crawl over a bed of nails and break your hands just to marry Clayton? Now you regret it?"

I closed my eyes in despair, hatred overwhelmed me, so I said, "Yes. I regret it. You once said if I came back to you, you'd marry me. Does that promise still count?"

His voice turned cold and he sneered, "Sienna, what do you take me for? I'm not like your fiancé. If you dare regret marrying me, ten lives won't be enough for you to die with."

I asked again, "Have you made up your mind?"

He said, "I have. I'll marry you, if you agree to my conditions."

I accepted without hesitation. His voice instantly lightened, he said, "Good. Leave it to me. Get ready to be a bride."

The call ended. I looked at my father's mutilated body and the tears finally fell.

If I hadn't questioned every hospital and found no proof of Clayton's illegal surgery, I wouldn't have resorted to this.

After all, that man had power in both the underworld and officialdom. Though he chased me for six years, I never dared to give him my heart. Yet in the end, I still walked this path.

When we prepared to bury my father, Clayton finally called. But not to comfort me, instead, to fuss over Angelina.

He said, "Is the funeral done? Angelina heard about your dad and has been worried. She hasn't slept well. Can you buy some calming meds for her on your way over? Make sure they're safe for pregnant women. No milk, she's lactose intolerant. And ..."

I cut him off coldly, "Clayton, what do you take me for? I'm not you and Angelina's nanny! And by the way, the wedding's canceled. I'm not marrying you."

His anger flared instantly, he shouted, "Canceled? Are you joking? Invitations are already out and now you say this? Angelina is your best friend, you two were close, weren't you? I already explained, the pregnancy was an accident. Why make a scene over nothing?"

After I heard his righteous tone, I couldn't hold back and screamed at the top of my lung, "I'm making a scene? My father's heart was stolen and given to her. Am I not even allowed to ask why?"

I continued, "Yeah, best friend you said, what a joke. What kind of 'friend' crawls into your fiancé's bed two months before the wedding? Don't insult me with that word. It makes me sick!"

Chapter 2

I yelled, "I said I won't marry you, don't you understand human language?"

Clayton took a deep breath in anger and repeated "Fine" three times. He threatened, "Sienna, remember what you said. Don't come crawling back to me one day!"

He hung up and I collapsed to the ground, completely drained. The scars I earned when I left the organization just to be with him still ached faintly. Yet in only six years, everything had changed.

The car I came in was driven away by his chauffeur. I had no choice but to walk three kilometers in the rain to the nearest hotel.

When I paid at the front desk, a notification popped up. Angelina had just posted a status.

It was tagged at a luxury hotel, with a photo of a candlelight dinner for two. The ground was covered in countless rose petals. The caption said: "They say the one unloved is the third party. Luckily, I met you first."

Tears streamed down my face uncontrollably. So, there had already been signs between them. I had just been lying to myself, refused to see it.

When we were in love, I'd pout and beg him to take me on dates. He said that was childish stuff, adults have adult lives.

I asked him to send me flowers, said I wanted to post them on social media. He said our happiness didn't need to be a performance for others.

But now, all of those "principles" disappeared in front of Angelina. Those times he looked down at his phone during our moments together... They all revealed his betrayal.

I tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep. At dawn, I checked out and headed straight to the Aiken Family villa.

I planned to pack up everything I owned and left them the space. The front door wasn't locked and I heard faint laughter inside. Clayton asked, "Did the baby move? He kicked me! Baby, it's Daddy!"

Angelina nestled in his arms, she giggled sweetly, "Oh stop, the baby's only two months along. He can't hear you."

He teased, "How could my baby be like everyone else? Of course he can hear. Let's not play with Mommy, Mommy's bad."

The moment I pushed open the door, the laughter stopped.

Angelina quickly stood up, completely flustered and said, "Sienna, you're back. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I can explain …"

I didn't even glance at her. My eyes were cold as I stared at Clayton and said, "Take off the wedding ring. I'll take all my things today."

As I reached to remove the ring, Clayton's expression darkened, he said, "What kind of attitude is that? Can't you hear Angelina talking to you? Is this how your father taught you to behave?"

I couldn't help but laugh bitterly and looked up at him with scorn and sneered, "So what? Just because she said sorry, I'm supposed to say it's fine?"

I added, "What exactly are you sorry for? You know it's shameless to seduce someone else's fiancé. You know what you did was disgraceful. You know you're a homewrecker who can't show her face in public!"

Clayton slammed the table and stood up suddenly, he roared, "Watch your mouth!"

Before I could respond, Angelina was already clutching her mouth, dry heaving, tears falling to the floor, "I'm sorry, it's all my fault. I thought I wouldn't live to the end of this year. That night I got drunk and ... and with Clayton ... I didn't expect a donor heart would suddenly appear, or I would never have done it."

She sobbed, "Please don't worry, once the baby's born, I'll give it to you to raise. I promise I won't appear again. I don't expect your forgiveness. I just don't want to affect your relationship with Clayton because of me ..."

By the time she finished, Angelina alreadt knelt before me. She cried like a weeping beauty, it was pitiful to the extreme.

Clayton's heart nearly broke. He rushed to protect her in his arms. Then he turned and glared at me furiously.

Chapter 3

He said, "Are you happy now? The baby is only two months old and you won't be satisfied until you push Angelina to death? I found the heart donor, I arranged the surgery. If you have a problem, take it out on me, don't go insane at Angelina!"

I watched the two of them echoing each other's lines, I suddenly laughed.

My face full of mockery, while I said, "Right. It's all your fault. You forced her into bed, she didn't do a thing wrong. She knew she was dying, so she decided to enjoy herself with her best friend's man. You're so kind. So noble. You two are a perfect match!"

Clayton was enraged and lunged toward me, ready to strike.

After years of training kicked in, I dodged instinctively. But I lost balance and fell hard onto the steps.

Agony from an old wrist injury shot through me like a knife. Cold sweat beaded on my forehead.

Angelina came over, she pretended to help, but deliberately collapsed onto me to worsen the injury. I couldn't hold back a cry of pain.

Clayton sneered coldly, "You’re still pretending? I didn't even touch you!"

Angelina apologized meekly, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ... Sienna, are you okay?"

I flung her away with all my strength, I yelled, "Spare me the act. I don't buy it!"

Clayton's patience ran out. His face turned completely cold.

He said coldly, "You don't know what's good for you. Angelina's upset because of you, now you're going to buy her medicine! If you don't get it right, don't even think about leaving! You owe her this!"

Clayton ignored my struggles and grabbed me by the neck and shoved me into the room.

I clenched my teeth against the seared pain in my wrist and pounded on the door. I shouted, "You're insane! Let me out! Clayton, you'll regret this!"

He didn't stop, he kicked the door hard from outside. He shouted, "You're the insane one! Not until you admit your fault, stay in there!" With that, there was silence beyond the door.

The pain in my nearly fractured wrist left me unable to move. In the darkness, training memories flooded my mind.

Clayton knew I was afraid of the dark. Countless nights, he had held me to sleep. When nightmares woke me, he had handed me calming medicine.

But now, he had locked me in this hell for another woman, with his own hands.

My strength drained. Tears silently slid down.

Laughter drifted from upstairs now and then. I heard Angelina said, "Clayton, Sienna's afraid of the dark ... maybe we should let it go today? I didn't even get hurt anyway."

Clayton didn't care, he sneered, "That's exactly why I picked the basement. If we don't teach her a hard lesson, she'll never learn. You've still got eight months until delivery. What if she bullies you while I'm away? Her temper needs to be broken."

Angelina giggled playfully and asked on purpose, "You're so annoyed with Sienna, then why you want to marry her in the first place?"

Clayton answered, "No choice. All the rich girls in our city have bad tempers. I heard Sienna trained overseas six years ago, she's more stable than the rest. That's the only reason I considered her."

After a pause, Clayton suddenly chuckled and added, "Oh right, she's trained, not delicate. She'll make a good nanny for you. That way, I don't have to worry."

Upstairs finally went quiet. My body grew colder, as if I'd been tossed into an endless ocean. No end in sight.

Six years ago, I met Clayton by accident during a mission.

Just as I was about to be discovered by bodyguards, he pulled me into a corner. His cold lips brushed mine and he deepened the kiss.

The bodyguards thought we were just a couple fooling around and walked away.
