Chapter 1

When I was traveling with my celebrity boyfriend over Thanksgiving break, he was recognized by his fans, who swarmed around him in a frenzy.

I was knocked down in the chaos, suffered abdominal pains and miscarried.

However, Jacob ignored me. The first thing he did was protect his good friend, Hailey to get in the car to leave.

Afterwards.

Hailey sneered in her Instagram, [So what if she's childhood sweetheart? She still can't fight against me! Women are not as important as good friends!]

I replied, [A bitch and a dog are a match made. Trash should be thrown into the trash can.]

——

The next day after the accident, Jacob seemed to remember me, his girlfriend.

But he didn't care if I was injured in the stampede incident, nor did he ask me where I was at that time.

Instead, on behalf of his ‘good friend’, he questioned my reply on Hailey's Instagram. "Abby, are you crazy?"

"Hailey is straightforward and is not narrow-minded like you girls. How can you call her a bitch? Apologize to her!"

Hailey echoed on the phone, "That's right! Women are so hard to figure out."

"Hailey was pushed and injured by those fans. As her friend, I can't look on indifferently!"

He didn't mention that I was also pushed down at that time because his attention was on Hailey.

There were even a few sensible fans who noticed that I was bleeding and kindly sent me to the hospital.

I said, "Jacob, I was also injured at that time, and..."

Before I could say the word ‘miscarriage’, Hailey, who was on the other end of the line, retorted, "Don't be so childish! Getting injured to let men care about you is out of date! I said women are so pretentious!"

"Jacob and I are like two brothers. Nothing will happen to us even if we sleep in the same bed! Didn't the fans say that they would believe we went to the hotel just to play the landlord? I don’t understand why you are so narrow-minded!"

"Who told you that nothing will happen when two men sleep in the same bed?" I sneered.

"You! You're filthy!"

"Do you have to make a mountain out of a molehill? Are you satisfied?"

After saying that, he hung up the phone.

A small matter?

Was this just a small thing to him?

[Jacob, let's break up.]

I quit fulfilling their 'brotherhood'.

But I found he had already blacklisted me.

Every time we had conflicts, he would blacklist me and have a cold war with me.

I didn't know when it was all up to him whether we went cold turkey or made up.

But he was not like this before.

Ever since he and Hailey had become friends on the screen, things had changed.

In the past, for the sake of our childhood friendship, I couldn't let go of him. I would forgive him every time he took the initiative to apologize.

But I suddenly got tired of him this time.

I was okay with him blacklisting me.

I stroked my abdomen. The baby who once lived here was gone but before I could tell him.

Maybe it was an omen.

I was a game trainer who was good at playing the jungler and shooter. I played games for others to earn a living.

I was free but I was busy and had less socialisation.

Jacob wanted to be a game streamer before he entered the entertainment industry. He asked me to play games with him day and night.

He was not good enough and gave up. Instead, I managed to be a game trainer.

My dream was to be a writer. He said that he liked to watch me play games, so I abandoned my dream as he wished.

I rejected a lot of game orders and rested peacefully for a few days.

I just finished the discharge procedures when I received a call from Jacob. "Where are you? I'll pick you up for dinner later."

I knew that he was unilaterally announcing the end of the cold war.

"No, we are done."

"Abby, don't make a scene. I've been busy these days and ignored you. I'm going to take you to eat delicious food. Baby, let's meet first, okay?"

He made it easy for me to oblige him every time he kept a low profile to coax me.

Since I couldn't explain it clearly over the phone, I would break up with him face to face.

"I am in the hospital," I replied.

"I’ll be there in half an hour. Wait for me," he said in an insistent tone.

My legs were numb and my lower abdomen was swelling after I stood at the entrance of the hospital for half an hour.

The hospital was too cool with the air conditioning on, and it would have left me sick for I just had a miscarriage half a month ago.

I thought that he might have been delayed by a traffic jam, so I could only sit on the flower bed under the big tree and wait in the hot summer.

He didn’t appear until it was dark and he didn't answer my phone.

I was afraid that he would get distracted by our break-up and get into a car accident on the way.

But when I saw Hailey's Instagram post, my heart really died.

In the photo was the back of Jacob cooking sugar water for her.

She wrote, [My good friend!!]

I wasn't surprised at all.

At this moment, I felt neither disappointed nor angry, but extremely relieved.

Hailey was right. How could I, a girlfriend compare to her?

Chapter 2

Everything remained the same before we went on the trip when I returned to the apartment.

That meant Jacob had not been back for the past few days.

It was already late at night after I cleaned up tiredly. When I was about to take a shower and go to bed, I received a message from the Chief Editor.

[Are you sure you don't want to sell the copyright, Lily? The copyright holder wants to buy your book at a high price and turn it into a movie, and there's an exclusive interview later...]

Lily was my pen name.

I once wrote more than half of a book but gave up because of the game.

The Chief Editor had contacted me about the copyright for many times, but I rejected him.

Jacob had once shut himself off because he wasn't as talented at the game as I was.

So I was afraid that if I became more famous than him by being a writer, I would hurt his fragile self-esteem.

"You've done a good job. I'm sure you'll make a name for yourself after turning it into a movie! Think about it. Countless writers can't even dream of it."

"Okay, Chief Editor, I'll sell the copyright after I finish it."

"Great!" The Chief Editor was so excited that he was almost lost in words.

"I haven't written for a long time. Give me some time and I will try to finish it perfectly."

In the past two years, there was nothing in my life but Jacob and games. As long as he needed me, I would immediately follow his orders no matter what happened, even if I needed to refund double the price and apologize in order not to get a bad comment.

I had completely lost myself.

But when I needed him, he was always by his so-called friend’s side.

I really felt that it was not worth it. I was tired physically and mentally.

Fortunately, it was not too late for me to live a wonderful life for myself.

I wanted to break up with Jacob directly, but he thought that I was making trouble on the phone.

Now I wanted to focus on finishing the book.

In order not to waste time tangling with him, I decided to wait and see.

I sorted out the plots of the book and analyzed the climax and the missing plots one by one.

Sometimes I deleted the outline, sometimes I changed it.

Once I got busy, time passed quickly.

I was immersed in the career I loved and even didn't notice when Jacob came back.

"Abby?"

I turned around and realized that someone was standing behind me.

"Jacob, you're back," I replied coldly. After saving the draft, I immediately turned off the computer.

He was typing back with a smile on his face, but the smile disappeared after he put away his phone.

"Why didn't you reply to my message?" he asked angrily.

I couldn’t understand why he became angry. He often missed my calls, and there were very few messages back.

"I was busy, so I didn't notice."

He said that to me countless times in the past and now I returned it to him.

He probably thought that I was still angry.

Jacob explained, "Hailey's stomach hurt badly that day. You know, she's like a boy who doesn't even know that she's having her period. I didn't have time to go to the hospital. I didn’t ask you about it because I thought you would go home yourself."

"Okay." I didn't care at all.

What happened between them had nothing to do with me.

"By the way, why were you in the hospital?" Jacob seemed to have finally noticed this detail.

"I had a miscarriage during the trip."

I had to make it clear to him, lest he put the blame on me after we broke up.

"Miscarriage? You... You were pregnant?"

He was surprised and then breathed a sigh of relief. "It doesn't matter. It's not a good time for us to have a kid. We will have our baby in the future."

No.

No.

We were done.

However, it was not the best time to mention it.

"Okay." I replied perfunctorily.

I didn't bother talking to him.

I was so focused on my writing that I didn't even feel hungry when I forgot to eat my lunch, and I was surprised to find that it was now nine o'clock at night.

I suddenly felt a little dizzy when I got up from the computer chair.

Jacob was probably very surprised by my coldness and alienation.

In the past, as long as he coaxed me, I would immediately forgive him.

Sensing that something was wrong, he rushed over to support me. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

I pulled my hand out of his and sat on the sofa to order takeout with my phone.

He realized that I was really angry this time, and a trace of guilt flashed in his eyes.

He came over and said, "Abby, I'm sorry. You know that I became popular because of my friendship with Hailey. If I didn't help her the day she was pushed down, I would definitely be scolded on the trending list..."

He couldn’t continue when he met my eyes.

Hailey had only suffered a scratch, while I had a miscarriage.

He was having fun with his good friend and even blacklisted me when I needed him the most.

"Cough..." He turned his face away and coughed to hide his guilt and embarrassment.

I felt that I was pathetic.

He always thought that it was Hailey that helped him to become famous.

He never knew what I had done for him in the past two years and that I had met two rich young men who were addicted to the game by being the game trainer.

Jacob got the resources because I had played games for them for a whole day and night. My hands were so stiff that they seemed not to belong to me anymore. I was even incontinent and hospitalized with stomach pains.

In the end, he attributed them to Hailey.

"I understand you. After all, Hailey is your good friend." I didn't look at him and ordered the milk tea on my phone.

He froze for a moment as if he had never expected me to say that.

In the past, I would ask him for an explanation to confirm my position in his heart by deceiving myself.

It was ridiculous now that I thought about it.

People who cared about you would naturally give you enough security instead of making you suffer all the time and thinking you're always being unreasonable.

"Abby, do you have to be so sarcastic? Hailey and I..."

"You two are brothers. Others sleep together in the room while you just play poker. You’ve said countless times and I understand you."

I interrupted him impatiently then walked to the guest room. "I'm a little sleepy after watching the computer for so long. I'll go to bed first."

Takeout and milk tea wouldn't be delivered for another half hour. I didn't want to stay in the living room with him.

I didn't even want to spend a second with him when I didn’t like him.

When I closed the door of the guest room, I heard him cursing outside, "What the fuck!"

It was probably because he felt he had already apologized and explained in such an attitude but neither did I get jealous nor forgave him as I had done before.

He got annoyed when I was jealous.

He became angry when I looked calm and indifferent.

It seemed that whatever I did was wrong.

It was tiring to be with him.

By the time the takeout arrived, Jacob had already left.

He must have gone to his friend’s place again.

Anyway, it had nothing to do with me.

Without him being here, I ate my takeout happily.

That night, Hailey posted two photos on her Instagram.

One picture was of them kissing in a bar, and the other was of him sleeping naked in her bed.

She wrote, [He said that this is the harbor of his freedom.]

I saved the screenshots.

Very good. I needed to rely on these two photos if I wanted to have a smooth breakup in the future.
