Chapter 3

As soon as I returned home from a business trip in the evening, I heard a roar coming from the house.

"A D- in math and an F in foreign language, what's fucking wrong with your head?!

"A pig on the street is better than you at guessing the answers! Did you really study even for a second?

"Work harder, or kill yourself now, you useless thing! Idiot!"

Daisy poked Ethan's temple with her scarlet nails so hard that his head would hit the wall.

Ethan gripped the test paper with a pale face, sobbing, "Mom, I really am studying, but I just can't concentrate. I have a headache and feel really uncomfortable."

This was not the first time Ethan had complained of having a headache.

But Daisy didn't give a shit about it.

She thought he was lying so as to avoid studying with a fake illness.

Daisy felt obliged to make him realize the importance of studying through punishment.

That was why she targeted Ethan's favorite model planes.

"You have a headache, huh? Let me see if you feel uncomfortable after these things are smashed!" After saying that, she picked up a model plane in the glass cabinet and shattered it.

Ethan was so scared that he burst into tears and begged for her mercy, "Mom, I'm sorry! I will never have a headache again. I will study hard."

However, Daisy was not touched and put another three on the floor.

Then, she found a hammer and threw it to Ethan with a heartless command, "Smash four since you got four Fs in the test. Since I finished one, you'll cope with the rest three."

Ethan shook his head pleadingly.

Seeing he couldn't get the stern Daisy's mercy, he tried to ask me for help. "Amber, please help me. I will study hard in the future. Just don't destroy them."

I just put the suitcase away and comforted him perfunctorily, "It doesn't matter. When your test scores improve, your parents will definitely buy you a new one."

The light in Ethan's eyes dimmed.

He shuttled to Daisy and numbly smashed his favorite toys.

Daisy said proudly, "Next time if you fail any subject in the exam, I will smash one of them. After I smash the model planes, I will smash the other things you like. Do you understand?"

Ethan nodded with a dull look.

Then, he took out his textbooks and studied all night.

Meanwhile, Daisy sat in the living room, constantly showing off how successfully her education was for others.

She said, "You can't praise a child, otherwise they will think they are the greatest in the world and put pressure on us, their parents! Look at my kid. He behaves better after being scolded and doesn't even go to bed but studies until midnight."

She just keeps on bragging.

Little did she know that Ethan didn't actually finish any math problems or remember a word in his text book.

Chapter 4

The next day, Peter came back from his job and heard about Ethan's dissatisfying test results.

He began to question whether Daisy's method really worked.

"Those well-educated mothers have a really effective way of education, but you are not like them. I don't think you can improve Ethan's grades by just scolding him," he said.

"So what if I didn't even finish high school? There are two months left, and I will learn what he is learning and teach him. He will definitely be admitted to the best local high school," Daisy swore boldly on the spot.

In order not to be looked down upon by her husband, she started to study on her own with full determination.

Not only did she learn by herself, she also got Ethan involved.

She somehow heard that the earlier one started studying, the deeper the impression of knowledge would be in one's brain.

So, at 5 a.m., she woke Ethan up and made her drowsy child jog and memorize the knowledge points.

Due to lack of sleep for a long time, Ethan sometimes fell asleep while eating.

Peyton went on a hunger strike for several days to protest her beloved grandson's suffering.

Daisy had to postpone her plan of waking Ethan up at five in the morning to study.

But this also led to her believing that he was playing tricks, and she became even more dissatisfied.

Then, she began to learn from the torturers and prepared many means to "refresh" him.

Once Ethan was distracted while studying, he would be splashed with ice water or be punched hard on his face.

After a long time, Ethan's body couldn't take it anymore.

Finally, he fainted during evening study.

After receiving the notification from the teacher, our whole family rushed to the hospital.

I saw Ethan curled up in the corner, quietly receiving an IV.

He didn't seem to see us, treating us as the air.

The doctor dutifully reminded us, "He fainted because of shock. As parents, you can't just force your children to study. Physical and mental health are equally important."

He kindly suggested that Peter take Ethan to see a psychologist.

However, Daisy shouted in disapproval, "We all grew up being hit by our parents, so why can't they? What's wrong with a few scoldings? It won't kill him."

The doctor pouted helplessly. "Recently, increasing students have committed suicide or ended up shooting their classmates. I hope you can take my advice."

Peter and Peyton wavered and looked at me.

"Amber, you went to college, so give us some advice."

But I knew the reason they didn't listen to the doctor but asked for my opinions.

If something went wrong in the future mental therapy, they would definitely hold me responsible.

I wouldn't put myself in such an awkward situation.

"I don't really understand the issues with kids. But I believe Daisy won't harm her own child." I tossed the problem back to Daisy.

She said with great confidence, "I will take charge in Ethan's education by myself. You don't have to worry about it anymore!"

In this way, the sick Ethan began his miserable days of excessively studying while receiving an intravenous drip.

The venue of the insults also shifted from home to the hospital.

So much so that Ethan's whole class knew that he had a mother who was as fierce as a lion.

With everyone's mock and insults, I thought he would not be able to hold on for long.

But when the results of the small test came out, Ethan actually had made rapid progress in getting an A in every subject.

That was so weird!
