Chapter 2

Listening to the sound of the security door slamming shut, I felt very disappointed.

If Edward looked at me a little longer, he might have noticed that my face was pale.

Even if he took two more steps towards my bedside, he could see the medicine bottles on the bed.

I was dying.

Three months ago, I told Edward several times that I had been feeling unwell and wanted him to accompany me to the hospital for a check-up.

But Edward always made excuses that he had things to do at the company and stayed with Brittany day and night.

After I found out, Edward said confidently.

"Brittany and I grew up together. If something happened between her and me, I wouldn't marry you.

"Brittany just came back from abroad. She is not used to the local climate. A girl came to a foreign place alone. I should take care of her."

The pain was unbearable, and I finally couldn't stand it anymore, so I called an ambulance to take me to the hospital for examination.

It was during this examination that I realized that I had advanced kidney disease and that if I couldn't find a suitable kidney, I would die soon.

Coincidentally, the doctor who examined me was Adrian Sinclair, a college classmate of Edward and I.

"Are you sure you don't want to tell Edward? He cares about you so much. He'll be desperate if he finds out." Adrian looked at me with disbelief on his face.

I smiled helplessly, "It's useless to make this call anyway."

Adrian picked up my phone in disbelief and called Edward.

But no one answered.

I looked at the time. It was already late at night.

"Edward is accompanying Brittany. He won't answer the call."

Adrian looked at me, took out his cell phone and dialed a number. The next second, Edward's voice came from the phone.

"Adrian, what happened? Where are you working now?"

Adrian had a complicated expression. He turned his back and whispered to Edward.

"Grace..." But before he could finish his words, Edward interrupted him impatiently.

"Adrian, did that crazy woman come to you to say something? God. Don't pay any attention to her. She's a complete psychopath now."

At this time, Brittany's voice came from the other end of the phone again, "Edward, I feel dizzy..."

"Okay Adrian, let's stop talking for now. I have something to do. Let's have dinner someday."

Hearing that, I wiped the tears from my face without leaving a trace.

Adrian stood there in a daze for a long time. "What are your plans after that?"

"Me? I have no plan."

After that, Adrian started looking for a kidney for me. But there was no news.

When I heard Edward slam the door and leave, I could no longer suppress the grievance in my heart and burst into tears while hugging the quilt.

After a long time, I simply packed up my things, put the divorce agreement that I had printed long ago on the table, and left home while enduring the pain.

But before I could walk far, I fainted on the road again.

When I woke up, Adrian's face came into my eyes. I subconsciously looked around but did not see Edward.

"He... He may be busy." Looking at Adrian's evasive eyes, I suddenly understood everything.

It was only then that I learned from Adrian that I had been in a coma for a whole day and night.

"Is there no hope for my kidney source?" Not wanting to continue talking about Edward, I took the initiative to change the subject.

Adrian nodded at me.

Not wanting him to look at me with such pity, I turned my head, closed my eyes and pretended to rest.

Edward and I had been married for ten years, but the beginning of our relationship was full of coincidences.

Chapter 3

We were still in college at that time. Everyone knew that Brittany liked Edward, but Edward always claimed that he only regarded Brittany as a friend.

At that time, I was just nobody.

Growing up in an orphanage, I was naturally no match for Brittany, who came from a wealthy family. But no one expected that Edward would be so devoted to me.

It was during our freshman year in college when we were having physical education class. A billboard fell straight towards Edward. I was standing next to him at the time and helped him.

By the time the teacher rescued me, the iron rod on the billboard had completely pierced my entire abdomen.

The ambulance was blocked at the gate. Edward and the teacher carried me and ran towards the gate frantically.

In a daze, I didn't know whether it was tears or sweat that was sporadically falling on my face.

At that time, I almost fainted due to the severe pain. It was Edward calling my name over and over again in my ear that kept me awake.

From then on, Edward became my personal bodyguard.

He put everything aside and took good care of me in the hospital for six months.

I learned from the doctor that my ovaries were severely damaged and that I might never be able to have children again.

He protected me, even had a big fight with his parents, and said that he wanted to be with me for the rest of his life.

But as someone who grew up in an orphanage, I knew very well that he and I were from two different worlds, so I rejected him again and again.

But no one expected that Edward, who was usually cynical, would pursue me relentlessly for four years.

Every day when I went downstairs, I could always see Edward. And no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't drive him away.

He carefully organized a birthday party for me with his friends, but I directly reported him for not returning home all night.

A classmate of mine made sarcastic remarks to me. He almost beat him up and sent him to the hospital.

After graduation, his parents cut off all his financial support in order to force us to break up.

But he would rather work three jobs a day to stay in the city where I worked to be with me.

On my 25th birthday, when I saw him, who was tanned, take out the ring from his arms, I no longer had any reason to refuse.

We were together, started a business together, and imagined the future together in a cramped rental apartment.

We spent the happiest time of our lives in that little apartment.

I still remembered the day when Edward confessed his love to me. He lit my favorite fireworks, knelt on one knee, and looked at me lovingly.

"Grace, I promise that I will never let you get hurt again!"

Although my conditions were bad at that time, I truly felt that I was the happiest woman in the world.

Later, Edward's parents finally gave in. And we entered into marriage.

It had been ten years to this day.

How great would it be if everything was as beautiful as it was back then?

"Grace, are you okay?" Adrian's concerned words interrupted my thoughts.

The test results came out soon. Adrian said that the coma might be related to the excessive shock some time ago.

When I went to the ward to get the medicine with the prescription, I met Brittany.

"Grace, why are you here?"

As she said this, she looked in the direction I was coming from, which happened to be the obstetrics department.

Brittany smiled softly. "Grace, it's been ten years. You haven't given up yet?"

She stared at my belly with contempt. "You deserve to be unable to have children since you snatched Edward away in that way."

Looking at Brittany's gloating expression, I didn't want to argue with her and walked straight to the pharmacy.

But just as I passed her, Brittany suddenly screamed and fell heavily to the ground.

The sudden scene left me at a loss for what to do, and I stood there in a daze.

I hadn't touched her just now.

At this moment, a roar sounded from behind me.

"Grace, stop! I must be blind to like a woman as vicious as you!"
