Chapter 2
A flicker of surprise crossed Chloe's face, but she quickly regained her composure. "Sure!"
I fixed my eyes on her, waiting to see what trick she would pull this time.
She walked past me and suddenly gasped in shock. "Oh my God, what's this?"
Everyone's attention was drawn to her. Their gazes followed her pointing finger.
There was a pink colored item lying on the floor.
She immediately pointed toward me. "Ms. Greystone, don't tell me this is why you were moaning!"
After that, she quickly covered her mouth, pretending that she had said too much.
I snapped, "What are you talking about? I saw it fall from under your skirt!"
Everyone exchanged glances and looked at us with curiosity.
Chloe wiped away her imaginary tears. "I was just telling the truth. Why are you trying to frame me?"
All the judgmental stares instantly turned on me.
The commotion drew Kieran's attention. He pushed open the door. "What's going on here?"
Chloe immediately ran to him and played the victim. "Mr. Voss, Ms. Greystone brought something inappropriate to the meeting and even showed it in front of everyone…"
"You framed me!" I retorted.
She gripped his arm and said in a trembling voice, "Mr. Voss, she keeps targeting me just because I'm your childhood friend. You should check our bags to prove my innocence!"
With that, she took her bag and dumped out everything on the floor. There was nothing but lipstick and a few daily necessities.
"Helen, it's your turn now."
I was startled when I saw Chloe's eyes gleam with triumph.
She snatched my bag, but Kieran stepped in and took it from her before she could empty it.
He casually flipped through the contents, and his face darkened. "That's enough. They're just daily items as well. It's time for the meeting now. Have the cleaning staff tidy this up and continue the meeting."
Although Chloe was slightly displeased, she didn't press further in front of him.
Later, Kieran called me to his office and slammed his hand on the desk. "Helen, you're my fiancee. I only covered for you to protect your dignity. But I didn't expect you to be this desperate, even in the office!"
I looked at him in disappointment. "I've told you. I was framed."
"That's enough. Don't take me for a fool. I saw the remote control in your bag!" he roared.
We parted on bad terms. Meanwhile, Chloe couldn't hide her satisfaction.
I still didn't know how she did it, and I didn't dare act rashly.
I couldn't focus on work that afternoon and had been watching Chloe quietly, when I noticed something strange.
It wasn't only when she was with men that I felt her sensations.
My heartbeat increased when she saw the jewelry that she liked.
My mind wandered, and my body went weak when she saw a handsome celebrity.
I would feel the urge to drink some water when she ate spicy food.
I had been dieting for weeks to fit into a smaller wedding dress.
I couldn't help but drool at the sight of people in the livestream devouring meat with such relish.
I glanced at Chloe, but she looked perfectly fine and was completely unaffected.
She took a sip of her hot tea as I scratched my head in confusion. Then, my tongue got burned and blistered.
How did she do it?
She could even transfer sensations to me from a distance.
My body suddenly trembled at midnight. I opened my eyes and found out that Kieran wasn't in bed.
I crept out of the room and pushed open the guest room's door only to see him moving on top of Chloe.
Meanwhile, she shot me a defiant look.
A shiver ran down my spine. It turned out they had been together all along.
I tried to rush over to confront him, but the strange sensation in my body made my legs weak. I collapsed to the ground.
I was back in my own bed when I woke up. Chloe was having breakfast by herself.
I recalled what happened last night and grabbed her wrist.
"Chloe, what the hell have you done to me?"
Chapter 3
Chloe's lips curled into a strange smile. Her expression was innocent as she said, "Helen, what are you talking about? I don't understand. By the way, I heard Northbourne Heights' project is wrapping up soon. Why don't you hand it over to me? Perhaps I won't have the time to hang out with men if I'm busy."
She raised her eyebrows, wearing a look of disdain.
I grabbed her by the collar and said coldly, "It's just the two of us here. Do you really think you can take me on?"
There was no fear in her eyes. Instead, she laughed. "Helen, are you threatening me? Unless you kill me, I have a hundred ways to make your life miserable."
My grip slowly slackened. She straightened her clothes and sneered. "Actually, I've changed my mind. I want both Northbourne Heights' project and your apology. I want you to apologize on your knees."
I ignored her threats.
I felt the familiar sensations on my body again as I was presenting the proposal to the client on stage that afternoon.
I forced myself to ignore the discomfort and excused myself before stumbling into the restroom and locking the door.
My phone rang moments later.
Chloe's voice came through. "You should be thanking me. If it weren't for me, an old woman like you would never experience something like this. I'll give you one last chance, Helen. Apologize to me, or I'll make sure that you never have a peaceful day again."
Waves of unbearable sensation crashed through me. My body trembled uncontrollably. I couldn't utter a single coherent word. "I… I'm sorry…"
She chuckled. "Helen, those words sound insincere to me. Here's what you'll do. Get out there and tell everyone you're a shameless slut who doesn't deserve Kieran."
She paused deliberately for a moment before adding, "Oh, and make sure you kneel on stage and admit that you've been bullying me at work."
I was completely at her mercy and had no choice but to listen to her and walk up the stage.
I fell to my knees with a heavy thud under everyone's shocking gaze and shouted, "I was wrong! I'm shameless and unfaithful! I don't deserve Kieran.
"I shouldn't have bullied Chloe, stealing her projects and claiming them as my own. She's truly the only talented one! She deserves my position as manager!"
Chaos erupted below the stage.
I collapsed on stage and was utterly drained by the time it was over.
I was at the hospital when I regained consciousness.
The situation was just like in my past life. The doctor couldn't find anything wrong with me and only told me to take it easy.
Kieran never came to see me. I texted him to break up with him.
However, I never expected that he would refuse to let me call off the engagement. "Helen, I'll marry you no matter what. You're my one and only wife."
He brought me to a bridal boutique to try on wedding dresses without my consent.
I couldn't escape, so I made one request. "Let Chloe be my bridesmaid."
He agreed.
However, I would think of how unjustly I died in my past life whenever I closed my eyes.
I jolted awake from a nightmare one night and made up my mind to run away to somewhere where no one could find me.
I suddenly heard Chloe talking to herself in the dark corner of the hall just as I was sneaking out. "Helen will never know. Everything that happened to her today is because of…"
I froze at her words!
So that was it!
I slipped back into my room and pretended nothing had happened.
Three days later, I walked down the aisle in a white wedding gown and toward Kieran.
I suddenly gasped when the priest asked if I would take Kieran as my husband. "Where's Chloe?"
Kieran frowned. "Why are you worrying about her right now?"
"She's my bridesmaid. The wedding rings are with her. What are we supposed to exchange later if we can't find her?"
He had no choice but to summon all her relatives and friends to look for her.
I knew exactly where she was. She was probably having a wild time with ten men in some dark corner.
She would do anything to ruin me. They were all Kieran's closest friends.
Kieran had also noticed something was off. None of his groomsmen were present.
I shouted, "I found her!"
I led the crowd and yanked open the door to the last restroom stall.
Chloe was tangled beneath ten men. Her face flushed with feverish pleasure.
She reached out to grab Kieran when she saw him. "Kieran, come and join us."
