She Faked Her Mother's Death to Destroy Me
She Faked Her Mother's Death to Destroy Me Summary
Chapter 1 of She Faked Her Mother's Death to Destroy Me
1: 1
After I paid three hundred and fifty thousand for the electric car and finished every last piece of paperwork.
I was already there at the dealership, ready to take the car home, when I suddenly changed my mind and decided to wait a few more days.
It was only because, in my last life, the mother of Yvonne Estes across the hall had a sudden heart attack.
Yvonne pounded on my door, sobbing, begging me.
"Minnie Lawrence, my mom's having a heart attack, please help me get her to the hospital, fast."
I didn't think twice. In a panic I drove the brand-new car I'd just bought and rushed her mother to the hospital.
She died the moment they carried her into the emergency room.
Then Yvonne posted online, accusing me.
"That vicious woman had a grudge against me, so she drove slow on purpose and got my mom to the hospital too late, and my mom died!"
She dumped the evidence she'd prepared in advance online, dressed it up with a few embellishments, and just like that I became the target of the entire internet.
Everyone called me a murderer.
Relatives and friends cut me off.
The neighbors in my building banded together to force me out.
Yvonne wouldn't let it go. She came to my apartment and made a scene, wailing that I'd killed her mother, refusing to stop until I signed the new car over to her.
I was so distraught I couldn't think straight, and a truck that had lost control ran me down and killed me.
Then I opened my eyes again.
I was back on the night Yvonne's mother had her heart attack.
1.
It was already eleven at night by the time I got home from picking up the car.
Just like the last time, a crack of thunder split the sky, and the downpour came hammering down again.
The knock at the door came again, urgent.
I opened it, and there was Yvonne, frantic, saying to me: "Minnie, my mom's having a heart attack, please, hurry, drive her to the hospital."
I answered her, calm.
"For the hospital you call 911. You shouldn't be coming to me."
Yvonne grabbed my arm, her voice sliding into a plea.
"By the time 911 gets here it'll be too late. Didn't you just bring home a new car? Hurry, take my mom to the hospital."
That expression. That tone.
And every word she said, precise down to the last one.
Exactly the same as the last life.
