Chapter 1
The heavy silver collar snapped shut, completely missing my neck.
"I claim you as my Luna," Julian declared to my cousin.
Serena smirked, pressing her blood-red lips victoriously against my fiancé's chest.
They dragged me across the freezing marble to execute the "wolfless defect."
But Julian's descending blade never struck. My spine ignited into liquid magma, expanding my bones into a towering, ancient silver beast.
When the legendary Northern Warlord shattered the cathedral doors, he didn't come to slaughter my treacherous pack—he dropped to his knees to crown me.

"The holy water has already blessed the silver." Julian Thorne's voice cut through the tense, suffocating silence of the Winter Cathedral.
I stood at the center of the altar, practically suffocating beneath the layers of a heavy, pure silk wedding dress. The intricate lace scratched my collarbone, but I kept my posture perfectly straight. I extended my trembling hands, waiting for my betrothed of ten long years to complete the binding ritual. The entire Winter Pack watched from the ancient wooden pews.
Julian walked right past me.
The cold draft from his movement fluttered my lace veil, chilling the sweat on my skin. I turned, my breath catching in my throat as I watched his broad back approach the choir stalls.
Serena stood there. My cousin. She wore a plunging crimson gown that defied every single tradition of a white winter mating ceremony, her lips painted a victorious, blood-red hue.
"Julian?" I asked, my voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. A hollow pit opened in my stomach.
He completely ignored me. He stopped directly in front of my cousin and raised the pure silver mate collar. Drops of blessed holy water fell from the polished metal, hitting the stone floor with sharp, echoing slaps.
"I claim you as my Luna," Julian declared, his tone steady, authoritative, and deliberately loud enough for the entire pack to hear.
He fastened the metal around Serena's neck. The latch snapped shut with a sharp, metallic crack that sounded like a gunshot in the quiet room.
"It fits perfectly, Alpha Julian," Serena murmured, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness. She traced the engraved runes on the silver, tilting her head to shoot a vicious, mocking smile right over his shoulder. At me.
"What is the meaning of this?" I demanded, abandoning my spot at the altar. I marched toward them, the heavy train of my dress dragging clumsily behind me. The whispers of the pack rose into a buzzing swarm.
Julian finally turned to face me. His gaze swept over my traditional white gown, his eyes narrowing with absolute, undisguised disgust. "I am doing what is best for the pack, Aria. A true Alpha needs a Luna with actual power."
"We have been betrothed for ten years!" I yelled, closing the distance between us. "I ran your ledgers. I negotiated your borders. You swore an oath to me under the full moon!"
"And in ten years, you never shifted," Julian replied smoothly, his voice devoid of a single ounce of guilt. "You are a wolfless defect, Aria. A biological dead end. I absolutely refuse to tie my Alpha bloodline to a weakling."
The words struck me like physical blows, but underneath the crushing humiliation, a strange sensation sparked to life. Deep beneath the fabric of my dress, right over my spine, my crescent-shaped birthmark suddenly burned. It was a searing, agonizing heat, completely foreign and terrifyingly alive, pulsing in time with my racing heart.
Chapter 2
"Get her out of the cathedral," Julian ordered, not even sparing me a second glance. He waved a dismissive hand at the two heavily built enforcers flanking the altar. "She taints the sacred ground."
"You cannot do this!" I screamed, tearing my gaze from Serena's smug, painted face to glare at the man I thought I knew. "Julian, the pack elders will never allow a broken oath!"
"I am the Alpha," he sneered, casually adjusting the cuffs of his tailored suit. "The elders will accept a Luna who actually possesses a wolf. You are nothing but an administrative liability."
"I gave you ten years of my life," I argued, my voice echoing violently off the cold stone walls. "I served this pack when your father died! I managed the territories. I kept this pack from starving!"
"Paperwork," Julian mocked, rolling his eyes. "Any human could do that. We are wolves, Aria. We need strength, not a glorified secretary."
"And Serena is strong?" I challenged, pointing a shaking finger at my cousin. "She hides behind your title and spends the pack's money!"
"Watch your mouth, defect," Serena snapped. She stepped closer to Julian, resting a manicured hand flat against his chest. "I am your Luna now. Show some respect, or I will have you flogged."
"I am done pretending," Julian sighed, his patience entirely evaporating. "Take her away. Lock her in the holding cells until the mating ceremony is finished. I do not want to look at her anymore."
The enforcers lunged forward. They grabbed my arms, their thick leather gloves clamping down on my bare skin like iron vices. One guard seized my left wrist, while the other dug his fingers ruthlessly into my right shoulder. His thumb pressed directly over my crescent-shaped birthmark.
"Do not touch me," I warned, thrashing fiercely against their grip. I tried to dig my heels into the marble floor, but they dragged me backward, my silk dress tearing at the seams.
"Quiet, defect," the taller guard growled. He yanked me forward, nearly pulling my arm out of its socket.
"Release me!" I shouted, kicking blindly at his shins.
Then, the fire exploded.
It did not spark from the ceremonial torches lining the aisle. It erupted straight from inside my own flesh. The crescent mark on my back flared with a blinding, white-hot heat that seared through my veins like liquid magma.
"What the hell?" the tall guard shouted. He yanked his hand back as if he had grasped a live wire.
The thick leather of his combat glove instantly disintegrated. Ash drifted through the cold cathedral air, leaving his bare, blistered fingers exposed to the horrified crowd. He dropped to his knees, clutching his ruined hand.
"She is burning!" the second guard yelled, frantically shaking soot and embers from his own uniform. "Alpha, her skin is literally on fire!"
"Restrain her!" Serena shrieked from the altar. She clutched the silver collar around her throat, her eyes wide with sudden, animalistic panic. "She is using witch magic! Kill her!"
"Do not be ridiculous," Julian snapped, though he stumbled backward, his confident posture crumbling. "She is a defect, not a witch!"
I did not have the breath to tell them they were both entirely wrong. My knees hit the stone floor with a brutal crack.
"Aria!" an elder yelled from the front pew, scrambling to his feet. "Someone fetch the healer!"
"Stay back!" Julian commanded, his voice cracking. "No one approaches her!"
My spine arched backward against my will. A sickening snap echoed across the silent room. My shoulder blades separated, shifting and grinding together like massive tectonic plates. The agony was blinding, absolute, and intoxicating.
"Make it stop," I choked out, clawing at the heavy silk of my wedding dress, desperate for air.
Another bone cracked. Then three more. My ribs expanded violently, tearing the tight bodice of the gown straight down the middle. I collapsed onto my side, convulsing as my skeletal structure forcibly and ruthlessly rebuilt itself.
"She is shifting," an older woman gasped, pointing a trembling finger at me. "Look at her hands!"
"Impossible," Julian muttered, shaking his head wildly. "She has no wolf. The healers confirmed it years ago!"
"Do something, Julian!" Serena demanded, stomping her heel. "She is ruining our ceremony!"
I forced my head up. Through the blur of agonizing tears, I saw Julian rip a silver short sword from his ceremonial belt. The polished metal gleamed dangerously under the high cathedral lights.
"Julian, what are you doing?" an elder shouted. "You cannot draw a weapon in the Winter Cathedral! It is sacrilege!"
"Putting down a rabid animal," Julian replied, his chest heaving with panic.
He did not hesitate. He vaulted down the marble steps, his heavy shoes slamming against the stone. He closed the distance in seconds, raising the silver weapon high above his head.
"You will not ruin my reign," he snarled.
He aimed the silver blade straight for the back of my exposed neck.
"Alpha, stop!" someone screamed from the crowd.
I did not roll away. I did not cower. The intense heat inside my chest suddenly crystallized into pure, lethal focus.
As the blade swung down with lethal force, I whipped my arm up and snatched his wrist out of mid-air.
The impact sent a violent shockwave up my forearm, but his downward strike halted instantly. The blade stopped an inch from my skin. Julian's eyes widened to the size of saucers. He stared at my grip as if his brain completely failed to process the physical reality of my strength.
"Release my arm," he commanded, straining his muscles to push the blade closer.
"No," I whispered. My voice sounded rough, vibrating with a dark, heavy resonance entirely different from my usual tone.
The boiling blood rushing through my veins surged straight into my fingertips. My rounded, perfectly manicured nails hardened instantly. They stretched rapidly, darkening into thick, razor-sharp talons.
They sliced right through the expensive fabric of his suit jacket and sank deep into his flesh.
"Ahhh!" Julian roared, his knees buckling as hot crimson blood spilled over my new claws.
He dropped the sword. It clattered loudly against the stone floor, sliding away into the shadows beneath the pews.
"You bitch!" he spat, twisting his body wildly to rip his arm away.
I tightened my grip. The bones in his wrist groaned loudly under my fingers. The excruciating torment in my spine vanished completely, swallowed by a dark, intoxicating rush of violence. A low, bubbling laugh tore from my throat.
"Does it hurt, Alpha?" I taunted, tasting copper on my tongue.
"Get her off him!" Serena screamed, finally abandoning her safe spot at the altar.
None of the guards moved. They remained frozen, staring at me with pure terror.
"I said help him!" Serena yelled, shoving the nearest enforcer in the back.
The man stumbled but refused to step closer. "I cannot," he stammered, his teeth chattering. "The aura... it is too heavy. I cannot breathe."
I released Julian's mangled arm and pushed myself off the floor. The torn shreds of my white gown hung uselessly from my rapidly changing body. My muscles felt incredibly dense, packed with a terrifying, foreign power that demanded release.
"Aria," Julian gasped. He clutched his bleeding wrist as he scrambled backward on the floor, kicking his legs like a terrified child to get away from me. "Your eyes."
"What about them?" I asked, tilting my head.
"They are gold," he whispered, his voice trembling.
I did not need a mirror to know what he saw. The familiar dark brown was gone entirely. A heavy, suffocating pressure flooded the room, radiating from my very core. The sheer weight of a Mycenaean progenitor forced the very air out of their lungs, dropping half the pack to their knees in involuntary submission.
Chapter 3
"Cover the elders!" Julian shouted from the floor, still clutching his bleeding arm.
A deafening crack split the air above us. The massive stained-glass skylight spanning the vaulted ceiling bowed inward, groaning under the sheer atmospheric pressure radiating from my changing body.
"Get down!" a guard yelled, throwing his arms over his head.
The glass blew apart. Thousands of jagged shards rained down on the marble floor like a glittering, lethal thunderstorm. Pieces bounced off the wooden pews and shattered against the stone tiles.
"What is happening to the windows?" Serena screamed, covering her face.
"Protect the Alpha!" another enforcer ordered, drawing his weapon.
"Forget me, shield the perimeter!" Julian barked, pressing his back against the choir stalls.
My jaw pushed forward. Bones reshaped with a violent crunch that easily drowned out the falling debris. The torn silk of my dress ripped completely away, leaving me on all fours.
"Look at her!" an elder gasped from the front row, his eyes wide with religious awe.
I was not a standard gray wolf. I towered over the center aisle, my massive frame easily doubling the size of any male in the entire territory. Silver fur rippled along my thick, dense muscles, glowing like a field of trapped stars under the flickering cathedral lights.
"That is no ordinary wolf," Julian choked out, his arrogance entirely replaced by dread.
"Kill it!" Serena shrieked, pointing a shaking finger at me from the altar steps.
"Are you blind?" the tall guard yelled over the chaos, refusing to raise his spear. "Look at her size! We cannot fight that!"
"You are the Alpha!" Serena demanded, glaring down at Julian. "Defend your Luna!"
"Shut up, Serena," Julian hissed through his teeth. "If I attack, she will tear me in half."
"Shoot her!" she cried.
"We do not carry guns in the sanctuary," a guard replied, backing away slowly toward the exit.
"Then use your claws!" Serena ordered, her voice hitting a hysterical pitch. "Tear her throat out!"
"I cannot move my legs," the guard stammered, his knees visibly shaking. "The aura is crushing me."
"He is right," the elder interrupted, gripping the edge of a pew to stay upright. "Look at the silver coat. The sheer mass. The golden eyes. She is a Mycenaean."
"A what?" Julian asked, his face draining of color.
"The ancient bloodline," the elder explained reverently. "We thought they were extinct centuries ago. They are the apex of our kind."
"I do not care what she is," Serena cried out. "She is going to kill us!"
"Only if you give me a reason," I projected directly into their minds.
My voice boomed through the pack link, dark, resonant, and dripping with raw power. The telepathic projection forced several younger wolves to cover their ears in actual physical pain.
"She can mind-link without a pack?" Julian whispered, horrified.
"I do not need your pathetic pack," I replied through the link, letting a low growl rumble in my chest.
I took a single step forward. My massive paws hit the marble with a heavy thud. The explosive power in my new limbs intoxicated me. I felt indestructible. Every muscle fiber hummed with lethal energy.
"Aria, yield!" Julian roared, pushing himself up to his knees in a desperate bid for authority.
He flared his Alpha aura, sending a wave of dominant energy toward me. The invisible pressure washed over the room, attempting to force my massive frame into submission. It felt like a light breeze against a stone wall.
"Are you trying to command me?" I asked through the link, amused.
"You are still in my territory!" he shouted. "Yield to your Alpha!"
"You are no Alpha of mine," I projected.
I slammed my front paws into the floor. The solid marble cracked outward under the impact. A shockwave of pure, ancient power blasted across the room, completely and instantly shattering Julian's aura. He flew backward, slamming heavily into the wooden choir stalls with a sickening thud.
"Alpha!" the tall guard yelled.
"Do not touch me," Julian groaned, spitting blood onto the floor. "Get the silver nets. Trap her."
"We left the nets in the armory," the guard replied nervously.
"Then go get them!" Julian screamed.
"If he leaves this room, I will hunt him down," I projected, locking my golden eyes on the guard.
The guard froze mid-step, swallowing hard.
"Listen to your Alpha!" Serena yelled from the altar.
"I am listening," the guard said, pressing his back against a stone pillar. "But she is the strongest one here."
"Traitor!" Julian spat.
"Keep your weapons down!" the elder warned the remaining guards. "Do not provoke her!"
"Get out of her way!" Julian ordered his men, realizing the danger.
"We are not in her way, Alpha," the tall enforcer replied, gesturing toward the front. "She is going straight for the altar."
I kept my glowing gold eyes locked entirely on my cousin.
"Do not let her near me!" Serena screamed, stumbling backward.
"Run to the sacristy!" Julian yelled.
"My dress is too heavy!" she cried, frantically tugging at the crimson fabric.
"Then take it off!" he snapped.
Serena spun around to flee. Her heel caught in the heavy tulle of her skirt. She pitched backward, slamming hard against the stone steps of the altar with a sharp cry.
"Julian, help me!" she sobbed, scrambling backward on her elbows like a cornered rat.
Julian stayed frozen by the choir stalls, clutching his bleeding arm. "Do not move a muscle, Serena."
"Aria, please," Serena begged, tears streaming down her perfectly contoured face. "We are family."
"You forgot that ten minutes ago," I projected.
I let out a low snarl. The sound vibrated deep in my chest, a heavy, booming frequency. The noise hit the crowd physically. Guards dropped to their knees, clutching their stomachs. Julian slumped against the wood, his face slick with sweat. The low-frequency rumble forced pure submission from every wolf in the room.
"Make it stop," a woman whimpered from the back.
"Submit," I projected, pushing the heavy weight of my aura outward.
The entire front row of wolves bowed their heads, exposing their necks in total surrender.
"Aria, stop this right now," Julian commanded, his voice trembling. "You have proved your point."
"I have not even started," I replied.
I ascended the steps. Serena pressed her back against the carved wooden podium, trapped.
"Stay away from the holy water," the elder warned softly from below. "It is blessed for the Alpha line."
"I am the Alpha line," I replied.
I reached the top of the altar. The ceremonial ice basin sat on a pedestal, the holy water swirling inside. I raised my massive front paw and slammed it down.
The thick crystal shattered instantly.
"Sacrilege!" someone gasped.
Crushed ice and freezing water exploded outward. Droplets hit my silver coat, sliding harmlessly off the dense fur. My rough paw pads ground the jagged ice shards into fine powder against the stone. The cold felt incredibly refreshing against my overheated muscles.
"The water is freezing," Serena whimpered as the splash soaked her torn dress.
"It matches your loyalty," I projected.
"Julian!" Serena shrieked, her voice reaching a hysterical pitch. "Do something!"
"I said do not move!" Julian yelled. "She will snap your neck!"
Serena froze, her chest heaving wildly.
I lowered my massive head. The sharp scent of her terror filled my nostrils, sweet and metallic. I parted my jaws, exposing rows of deadly, gleaming teeth.
My snout brushed the soft skin of her throat. I pressed my razor-sharp fangs against her pulse point, ready to bite down and end her miserable existence.
Click.
The cold, mechanical sound of a heavy revolver hammer being cocked echoed sharply through the ruined sanctuary.
I froze. I shifted my glowing gold eyes toward the front row.
My own father, Patriarch Marcus, stood tall amidst the cowering pack. He leveled a matte-black gun directly between my eyes.
"Tell your beast to heel, Aria," my father ordered, his finger squeezing the trigger. "Or I blow your brains out right now."
