Chapter 4
"Human organ transaction in any form is a serious crime; you know that, right?"
I nodded. "I know it's illegal and definitely shouldn't be done on a public online platform." If it weren't illegal, the system wouldn't have asked me to post it.
Clara frowned after reading the screenshot. "I didn't post that."
She shot me a cold glance that could freeze.
"Still denying it, huh?" The officer slammed the table impatiently.
"Take a look at this, posted by one of your company's employees online last night. You openly asked a doctor to draw other people's blood to transfuse to Maxey Tyler, and even used money to induce people to donate blood. Don't you know that's illegal too?!"
Clara pursed her lips. "But it didn't end up happening."
The officer sneered. "But you had the intention. You attempted to do it."
Just then, another officer brought Maxey in.
He held her in his arms, all teary-eyed.
"Clara, are you okay? It's all my fault. If I were healthy, none of this would have happened."
Behind her was a familiar female officer. She frowned when she saw Clara and I.
"Investigate this case thoroughly. The relationship of this married couple is abnormal. This can't be treated as a simple disturbance of public order."
Seeing Clara about to be handcuffed, Maxey panicked and stood in front of the police. "Clara didn't commit any crime!"
When the police tried to pull him away, he blurted out in panic, "I'm not sick! I don't need a kidney transplant, so she couldn't have been buying organs!"
When Clara heard that, she abruptly stood up. "You're not sick?! But didn't you go abroad because you were sick? You said your family forced you to..."
"I was cured!" Realizing what he had said, Maxey quickly backtracked. "I was fully cured when I was abroad!"
I watched coldly, my emotion calm.
Maxey had gone abroad immediately after learning of the Peyton family's bankruptcy, claiming it was for treatment.
Now, it was clear to everyone that it was just an excuse.
Clara's lawyer arrived. Thanks to his efforts, Clara was released after paying a fine.
She remained silent the entire way home.
I sat in the passenger seat and saw Maxey cautiously touching the back of her hand in the rearview mirror.
"Clara, I didn't mean to hide it from you. I really did get cured overseas, you can check!"
His eyes welled up.
"I only lied to you because I wanted to test if you still cared about me. If you hate me, you can hit me."
"Stop talking nonsense. I'll never hit you!" Clara held his hand back.
I turned away.
The system gave me an order in my head. "When you get out of the car, take Clara's phone."
I did not argue even though it was practically stealing.
In the rearview mirror, I saw Clara check her phone at Maxey's prompting. She then looked up and glanced at me in the passenger seat. After hesitating for a moment, she nodded.
The driver dropped Maxey off at his place first, then headed towards our residence.
As soon as I got out, I tapped Clara on the shoulder. "A bug!"
When she turned around, I swiped the phone from her pocket.
She turned back to the driver and told him to send all the servants away.
"I need to have a talk with my husband."
I quickly glanced at her phone. The latest message was from Maxey.
"Jason must be behind everything that happened today. You have to teach him a lesson. Lock him in the house and get some guys to scare him."
I finally understood. That was what Clara had nodded and agreed to earlier.
The system asked me, "Do you know what to do this time?"
I nodded. Once all the servants left, I followed Clara into the house.
She turned around. Just as she said, "I'm going out for a..." I kicked her in the knee.
Before she could react, I ran through the front door and slammed it shut!
