Chapter 3

I was brought to the police station once again.

The police officer looked at me, his expression grim as he pulled out a couple of gruesome photos of the accident last night.

"Adrienna Stafford! You drove under the influence last night and rammed your car right into a car carrying a family of three before fleeing the scene! Not a single person in the car survived!

"The forensic lab has already completed its examination. Aside from the child, the two adults could have survived if only you'd called the police and the ambulance in time! However, you left them there lying helplessly on the road until they died of massive blood loss!"

Everyone gasped.

Mom nearly fainted when she heard this. She looked at me, sobbing uncontrollably, repeatedly asking me what had happened.

Nigel stepped forward and pulled Mom aside.

"Didn't you understand what the police just said, Mrs. Stafford? Adrienne spent last night drinking with some random boytoy of hers, and then insisted on driving back home after she was dead drunk! And then she rammed her car into someone else, killed them, and fled the scene!

"I'd already told her many times before not to visit those shady bars and clubs, but she refused to listen to me! Now, look what's happened! She's gone and gotten herself into huge trouble!"

I was suddenly painted as a shameless, promiscuous, and inhuman person. Everyone else also glared at me like I was a murderer.

"Three lives, Adrienna Stafford! How could you leave them at the scene while you fled?

"Are wealthy people all heartless like you? Did you really think that your life is above everybody else's?"

"I didn't do it!" I defended myself helplessly as tears wouldn't stop flowing down my cheeks.

"Adrienna Stafford! The two adults would never have died if you hadn't run away!"

I kept shaking my head, hoping that someone would believe me.

"I really didn't do it! I never went to the bar last night! I hadn't even been driving! You all insist I did it, but where's your proof? Where's the proof?"

Olivia yelled at me again, "You burned it all up last night!"

Everyone turned to look at me in shock.

"No wonder she went crazy and set fire to everything last night like a crazy person, burning up a whole mansion worth millions of dollars! It was to get rid of the evidence!

"I can't believe that she'd do just about anything to escape the law!

"She's a monster in disguise! A life for a life! She needs to die for her sins!

"What are you police waiting for, an invitation? Two lives that should have been saved are gone! Arrest her now and sentence her to death!"

All of the allegations and accusations against me were as familiar as before. The very same things had happened to me in my past life as well.

I was beginning to feel panicked.

Nigel looked at me with disgust on his face.

"That mansion was supposed to be a gift for me, Adrienna. It was going to be our home after we got married. Yet now, you went ahead and burned it all up just to cover up your crimes!

"If that's the case, I don't see a reason why we should carry on with the wedding anymore."

"Bullshit, Nigel Taylor! You were the one who crashed the car!" I yelled at him.

Two police officers pinned me back down against the chair so that I couldn't move.

"Let me ask you again, Adrienna Stafford. What was the real reason you burned up the mansion last night?

"You insisted that you were mentally unstable yesterday, and your mother said this morning that you were simply emotionally disturbed. Which one is the truth?"

I frowned and gave a different answer.

"I burned the mansion to prove my innocence."

The police officer looked at me, his expression strange.

Then, they brought out an evidence bag containing a lipstick and a bracelet.

"Adrienna, these were the items found at the scene of the crime yesterday. The lipstick and bracelet belong to you. We have also found traces of your DNA at the scene. These were the evidence left behind after the crash."

This evidence was also exactly the same as in my past life.

Then, they would soon find out that there were only my fingerprints in the crashed car that was later found at my mansion.

Then, they would find bloodstained clothes and the dashcam footage that had been destroyed in the mansion.

All of the evidence pointed to me alone.

But now, the garage and the mansion were both burned to the ground. Was the same thing still going to happen again this time?

I forced myself to calm down and think of all possible ways to counter the "evidence".

I looked up and asked the police officers, "Did the surveillance cameras at the crash even capture me in it?"

"You're a pretty stubborn woman, aren't you?" the male officer remarked, impatiently bringing up the surveillance footage of last night.

"The privacy screen of your car didn't allow the cameras to capture your face, but this red Ferrari has been confirmed to be the one registered under your name.

"You might have already destroyed the car, but we will do all we can to—"

I stared at the time on the surveillance camera and suddenly exclaimed, "Stop there!"

I had found the crucial evidence to prove my innocence.

I smiled at last. It was time for me to turn things around now!
