Chapter 3
When my good friend, Taylor, arrived, I was lying on the hospital bed.
When the cold liquid was injected into my body, my body seemed to become cold.
The nurse said angrily, "Didn't I ask your family to keep an eye on you? How can you get hurt?"
I didn't tell her that my family hurt me.
My body was as fragile as a porcelain doll now, and I could be in for major therapy with minor injuries.
When Taylor saw me like this, she burst into tears.
"My message was to ask you to catch adultery in the hospital, not to suffer in the hospital..."
"I'm sorry, Mia. I shouldn't have told you that they came to the hospital."
I smiled and wanted to raise my hand to comfort her, but my arms were sore and I couldn't lift them.
"It's none of your business. I was in the hospital before they came."
She said nervously, "I heard that Andy found an expert in O.B.. Is that woman..."
"She just had the painful menstruation."
Taylor shouted, "Painful menstruation? Not a miscarriage? Can't she just take two painkillers herself?"
I compressed my lips. "Sometimes, painkillers are not that effective."
She stopped talking. "Let's go. I'll take you home."
"Okay, let's go home."
I sent a message to Andy. "The password of the safe."
Andy replied to me in the evening, "Are you in such a hurry? 180813."
"50,000 dollars for your apology was worth it."
This password sounded familiar, but it was not an important code for Andy and me.
So, what did it mean?
I stayed at Taylor's house for seven days.
I didn't go to the hospital for an injection for seven days because I didn't have enough money.
I didn't want to borrow money from Taylor, because I was sure that I wouldn't be able to pay it back.
I was going to die. I didn't want to owe anyone anything.
Every time my body couldn't stand the pain, I would bite the towel until my chin was sore and almost dislocated.
Taylor was right next door. I tried my best not to make a sound to disturb her.
Andy hadn't contacted me for the past seven days.
On the eighth day, I planned to go home and get the things in the safe.
However, as soon as I arrived at the gate of the villa, I saw that the moving company.
The box they carried out wasn't properly sealed and I saw my clothes inside.
When I wanted to ask the workers about the situation, the housekeeper stopped me.
He looked embarrassed and said, "Madam, this is all Sir's idea."
"He said that since you're not coming back, you should move out."
"Where are you moving my things?" I asked.
"Mr. Jones has a small apartment in the suburbs. Mrs. Jones, you can live there in the future."
The workers were moving things inside.
It was a double bed.
Was Andy going to change the bed?
Zoe crossed her arms in front of her chest and stood at the gate of the villa, looking down at me.
She pretended to be surprised, "Mia, why are you back? I'm sorry. Andy thought our apartment was too small and asked me to move here."
I lowered my head and walked in. "I have something to take."
Zoe blocked my way.
"Mia, I've asked workers to pack up your things. They've already been loaded into a car. You'd better not go into this villa."
"This is my home now."
I told her, "Andy and I haven't divorced yet. I own half of the house."
She snorted and said, "Stop pretending. Andy told me that you two had a premarital agreement. All his assets have nothing to do with you, including this house."
When I insisted on going in, Zoe called out to the housekeeper.
The housekeeper stood in front of me with her.
"I'm sorry, Madam. Mr. Jones asked me to listen to Miss York's arrangements."
Chapter 4
I stood on the spot, only to hear my rapid heartbeats due to anger.
This was my home, where I had lived here for a few years. Now I was stopped by another woman.
Zoe smiled smugly, and the housekeeper looked embarrassed.
A light rain suddenly fell from the sky. The drizzle fell on my face, making it hard for me to open my eyes.
The housekeeper couldn't bear to see me like this and asked, "Madam, what do you want? I can get it for you."
"The safe, the largest safe in Andy's study."
Zoe took a step back into the villa and said, "So that's what you want. Housekeeper, don't give it to her. I'll keep Andy’s money."
I slowly put on a smile. "Andy told me the password. It’s none of your business."
"If you keep talking, I'll call the police and say that you broke into the house. Legally, I'm still the hostess of this house."
Zoe glared at me, but she didn't want to make things worse.
She waved her hand and rolled her eyes.
"Okay, go and get it for her. It's just 50,000 dollars anyway. I'll take it as paying off beggars."
It's raining heavily. The workers have all gone to take shelter from the rain.
The housekeeper took out the safe. It was too heavy and could only be placed on the ground.
In the pouring rain, I knelt on the ground and opened the safe.
My whole body was cold, but my heart was warm.
I entered the password and the safe was opened.
I took out the notes and put them aside, letting them soak in the rain.
After the money was all taken out, I finally saw the folder inside.
My heart was pounding and was a little afraid of seeing it.
I ran under the eaves with the folder in my arms and opened it carefully.
In addition to the marriage documents, there was also a piece of paper.
I took out it and unfolded it. The moment I saw the words on it clearly, I had the urge to cry.
If I could take it away, I would have no regrets even if I died.
"What’s that? Let me have a look!"
Zoe suddenly appeared and snatched the piece of paper away.
She looked at it with a smile and said in a disdainful tone.
"Propose oath... Mia, you don't want 50,000 in cash, but this?"
Anger burned in my chest as I glared at her. "Return it to me!"
Zoe looked at the paper again. It was a written proposal oath from Andy when we got married for the first time.
Every word on it was filled with his love.
The more she read it, the darker her face became. She roared at me.
"Mia, stop daydreaming!"
"Do you think it can make him love you again?"
"The person he loves most now is me!"
Then, she tore the paper into pieces and scattered them all over the floor in front of me.
I held my breath as if my heart was about to explode.
I didn't have time to argue with her. I fell to the ground and quickly picked up the fragments.
But the ground was too wet, and the fragile paper was quickly soaked. The words on it were instantly ruined and couldn’t be seen.
"Mia is my best..."
"I, Andy-"
"I swear to love her as much as my life..."
"No, it's more important than my life..."
I remembered every single one of those words.
Even if it was torn apart, I could still put it together.
After the divorce, I kept reading the oaths on every sleepless night.
Not only did I remember what Andy said to me, but I also remembered how he looked like when he said those words to me.
I also remembered that his hands were shaking uncontrollably because of nervousness.
Halfway through, he got stuck. He secretly took out this piece of paper from his pocket and wanted to peek at it, but I caught him.
In the end, he took a deep breath and asked me, "Mia, are you willing to be my wife? Whether you're old or sick, poor or rich..."
His voice was so distant.
His face began to blur in my memory.
I had the wet scraps of paper in my arms and could only hear the soft sounds of rain in my ears.
It was so cold. Why was it so cold today?
I shivered from the cold and my breathing became heavier and heavier.
When I looked up again, I suddenly saw Andy.
At that moment, I couldn't tell memories from reality.
He stood there and looked at me, just like he had many years ago.
I suddenly felt so wronged that I wanted to cry.
I pointed at the scraps in my arms and said, "Andy, it's gone. The oath is gone..."
Something I held dear just shattered into pieces.
Andy looked down at me. The corners of his mouth lifted, and the contempt in his eyes was undisguised.
"Mia, do you think I'll feel sorry for you?"
I suddenly woke up and stopped crying.
The person in front of me was not the one in my memory.
He was not Andy.
At least, he was not the Andy who loved me deeply.
Andy saw the change in my expression and thought that he had successfully exposed me.
"Mia, it's a pity that you don't be an actress with your acting skills."
Before he could finish his sentence, I felt a warm sensation in my nose and it started to bleed.
Andy frowned. "Mia, stop pretending. I..."
The anger on his face suddenly froze, and his voice stopped abruptly.
It was replaced by great shock and panic.
I lowered my head and could only see the blood.
It turned out I was bleeding profusely.
Andy panicked. He rushed to me and caught me in the rain.
"Mia, what's wrong with you?!"
