Chapter 4

When it came to the day of bidding, I led the team there myself.

At the entrance of the assembly hall, I saw Ethan, who was condescending.

"Mr. Anderson, I'm so confident in this bid that you shouldn't compete with me."

"Well, I don't know why you're so confident in your crappy company." I looked at Ethan with disdain.

"If you don't believe me, just wait and see." Ethan seemed to say something, but he held his tongue.

I ignored him and went straight in with my staff.

The bidding started soon after.

The price of those lots our company bid on was the same as in the bid document.

Ethan looked so smug as if she had gotten the lot in Blanton.

It wasn't until the bidding for the lot in Blanton began that Ethan looked like he was going to win. Without waiting for the other companies to call out the price, he just called out the price in the bid document Nora had given him.

Then, Ethan looked at me smugly.

When Ethan called out the price, the other companies were silent. After all, the Anderson Group wasn't that simple.

Until the bidding session was almost over, I raised my hand and said calmly, "I'm asking for a capital check. Given the size of the Murphy Group, I don't think he has the funds to pay the deposit on the lot in Blanton."

In my previous life, his security deposit was paid for by Nora with my money.

Ethan didn't expect me to do that, so he looked humiliated.

My proposal was almost approved by all the companies present.

After the organizer's capital verification, Ethan's company truly didn't have enough liquidity to pay the deposit.

In the end, the Murphy Group was disqualified from bidding, and the bid for the lot in Blanton was canceled.

As for why a company as large as Ethan's could participate in the bidding, it would not be my concern anymore.

Ethan was waiting for me at the door as I walked out with my staff.

"Zachary, I didn't expect you to use such a trick. I know you're jealous of me because of Nora, but you can't use this trick, and Nora will get upset when she finds out."

I didn't say anything as I watched his righteous indignation.

Perhaps Ethan thought I was scared, so he continued to push his luck. "Why don't you give me the lot in Blanton at the next bidding and help me pay for it? It would be best if the Anderson Group worked with my company on a few more projects to get mine growing. I'll consider speaking up for you in front of Nora.

"How was it? Good deal, huh?"

By the time Ethan finished speaking, I had just finished replying to George's message.

Seeing that I ignored him, Ethan seemed to feel humiliated, so he shouted angrily, "Zachary, did you hear me?"

"Is that all?" I asked calmly.

Ethan was stunned for a moment, thought about it, and said, "It would be perfect if you give me another five percent of shares in the Anderson Group."

Look at his condescending attitude, as if I owed him billions of dollars.

"Just daydream for now." With that, I turned around and left.

As I walked, I wondered why I was so stupid in my previous life to be fooled by someone like Ethan.

Chapter 5

By the time I got back to the office, Nora was already waiting inside.

Ethan had soon complained to Nora.

"Zachary, I didn't think you'd push me with such a trick." Nora seemed to read my mind.

"Why did you get Ethan disqualified from bidding? Did you think that would bring me to my knees?"

She glared at me with arrogance in her eyes.

"Ms. Lewis, the Murphy Group didn't meet the requirements for the bidding session." My secretary stepped in to help me explain.

"I'm talking to Zachary. Who are you as a secretary to interrupt?"

"He's right," I couldn't stand to see Nora bullying my staff, so I said coldly.

"Aren't you doing this to use Ethan to force me to apologize to you? Look, no way."

"Let her leave." I didn't bother to argue with this crazy woman.

Just as Nora was about to say something, George pushed the door open.

"Zach, didn't you ask me to come with you to buy the villa?"

Hearing that, Nora suddenly came to her senses, and the mockery on her face became even more obvious.

Maybe she thought I bought the villa to please her.

"Did you think I would forgive you just because you bought the villa? No way. If you want me to forgive you, you should apologize to my family." Nora's eyes were filled with smugness.

It was as if I would truly die if I lost her.

It was obvious that Nora was the one begging me for help every time, but she always acted like she was giving me a handout.

I didn't understand why she thought that before, now I needn't do it.

Nora left confidently after saying that.

Once I finished working on those papers, I went to buy the villa with George.

In my previous life, I also bought this villa and gave it to Nora, but she seemed disgruntled.

Just after we signed the purchase contract, Nora's father called me.

"Zach, what's going on? Why didn't my company's finances receive that payment?

"Why couldn't you do this simple thing right?

"How could I feel relieved to trust you with Nora if you did that?"

As soon as I answered the phone, I was blamed.

"Did you forget that I broke up with Nora yesterday?"

"Are you kidding? Nora just said you went and bought her a villa."

"Oh, I bought that for myself."

"What? How could you do that to..."

I hung up the phone decisively and blacklisted him.

I couldn't understand how a man's voice could be so sharp, and my eardrums were nearly pierced by the sound.

George's eyes widened when he heard what I said.

"Your eyes are dropping out." I mocked him mercilessly.

"You aren't serious this time, are you?"

A single man like George even knew that I shouldn't offend Nora's father, because if I did, the consequences would be unimaginable.

I nodded calmly and said, "Of course I'm serious."

George looked at me in shock. "Dude, you finally figured it out. We all thought you were mesmerized by Nora before.

"Why don't we get some champagne to celebrate together?" He said seriously as he came up to me.

"You're insane!" I pushed him away in disgust.

George said he wanted to help me celebrate, so he invited some of our good friends to come out and party with us.

On our way there, Nora called me several times, and I didn't answer any of them.

I didn't click on it to see the alert of the message sent on WhatsApp.

But I was also going to blacklist her, so I let the phone keep ringing like that.

George looked at me with worried eyes. "Zach, you're not going to regret this so soon, are you?"

I said calmly, "She used to do the same thing by not responding to my WhatsApp messages and calls. I just want to ignore her like this and let her try what it feels like."

In my previous life, I had an accident once, and the doctors contacted her for a day without finding her.

Thinking back on what happened in the past, I felt that I was truly stupid at that time. Even so, I didn't even break up with her.

In order to celebrate me being out of my distress, George took a picture of me at the party and updated Instagram.

George showed me his cell phone.

His caption read: [It was a great day.]

The accompanying picture showed the villa I bought and how I looked when I was drinking at a party.

"I look handsome." I praised him without mincing words.

We gathered until the wee hours of the morning when George said he was going to spend the night at my house.

No sooner had I walked in the door than I saw Nora sitting in the living room.

She rushed over to me angrily and slapped me across the face.

"You bought the villa, but why didn't you finance the Lewis Group?

"Do you realize that the Lewis Group can't hold out much longer?

"Zachary, why are you so shameless?

"Do you think that's going to force me to apologize?

"Look, even if the Lewis Group goes bankrupt, there's no way I will apologize.

"Just keep daydreaming about it."
