Chapter 1
While we were traveling, a filthy woman suddenly threw herself into my parents’ arms. At first, they looked disgusted. But after she whispered something to them, their expressions changed.
That same day, they accepted her, Pamela Ratcliff, as their adopted daughter and told me to give her the company I had worked years to build. It was worth millions of pounds. When I refused, they drugged me and sent me to an old homeless widower living in sheds.
I was abused so badly that my legs were broken. I cried and begged, but the people who once loved me only sneered.
"This is your punishment for being selfish," my mother said coldly.
"It’s better for your legs to break. Now you won’t fight Pamela for the company," my father added.
Pamela smiled proudly.
"Beg all you want. You’re nothing compared to me."
I watched them leave, tears running down my face. I didn’t understand what Pamela said that made my parents turn against me so easily.
After that, I was locked in a caravan and humiliated by the man for three years until I finally died in pain.
But when I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day that the beggar first appeared.
——
"Madeline," my father called me.
He then said, "Now that we’ve made Pamela our adopted daughter, she’s your sister. You should give her the company as a gift. Two hundred million pounds is fair for someone of her status."
"She’s suffered so much. If you have any kindness, don’t refuse this small request," my mother added.
Hearing their voices again, I looked at my unharmed body and nearly cried. After all those years of pain, I had come back to life.
Pamela had already changed into my clothes and jewelry. She looked nothing like a beggar now. She stood beside my parents, acting sweet and proud, just like before.
In my past life, I had refused. I had worked hard to grow the company that my grandfather left me. My parents never had business sense. Everything I built was on my own.
But because I didn’t hand it over, they poisoned me and let a stranger ruin me while they watched. My mother, who once treated me like a princess, said I deserved it. My father, who once promised to protect me, said it was good that my legs were broken so I couldn’t challenge Pamela.
Everything I loved was destroyed in an instant.
"Madeline, do you agree or not?" my father pressed again.
"The company is worth a lot, but family matters more, right?"
I snapped back to the present and forced a smile.
"Okay, I agree."
This time, I was alone. No assistants, no guards. Just the open sheds and a few herdsmen. I couldn’t fight them head-on. I had to stay calm, act smart and wait for the right time.
I wanted answers. I wanted revenge. I needed to know what made my parents betray me so completely.
My mother handed me a glass of wine with a smile. My hands trembled. In my past life, this was when they drugged me.
Chapter 2
This time, I saw it clearly. Pamela pressed a switch on the bottle before pouring the wine. Even though I had agreed to give up the company, they still planned to drug and ruin me.
Why?
I was their biological daughter. I had seen the test results as a child. How could they do this to me?
I had many questions, but I didn’t have time to think. Without further ado, I took the wine and pretended to drink it. However, I quickly spit it out onto the wool mat while picking something up.
While they were distracted, I took out my phone and opened a chat with my fiancé, Andrew Hamilton.
Even though our engagement was arranged, we had known each other since childhood. Luckily, I remembered he was visiting a branch nearby. I quickly sent him my location and typed a message asking him to come and call the police.
Before I could finish, my father grabbed my phone. His face turned cold.
“Why did you ask Andrew to come here?”
I forced a smile as I said, “I just miss him. Don’t you like your future son-in-law?”
My mother laughed awkwardly, telling me, “You agreed to spend time with us. Don’t call Andrew now.”
Their fear of my contacting anyone proved the wine was poisoned. Luckily, I didn’t drink it. I hadn’t alerted them fully either, since I didn’t finish the message.
Pamela leaned over and read the screen. She smiled.
“Your fiancé’s coming? Great. More people, more fun.”
Her confidence made me nervous. Did she think even Andrew would side with her?
No. That wasn’t possible. We’d been in love for years.
I stayed calm and put the phone away. “It’s getting late. Let’s go see the sunset.”
As I walked out of the tent, I stumbled and bumped into a thin boy collecting sheep dung.
I helped him up and said gently, “I brought snacks. Want to come with me to get them?”
I led him back to the caravan.
My parents frowned.
“Did she figure something out?”
Pamela shrugged.
“That kid only speaks the local dialect. She can say whatever she wants. It’s useless.”
But they didn’t know I had learned the local language after being trapped here for three years in my past life. If anything went wrong, the boy could help me. I wouldn’t rely only on Andrew this time.
After I sent the boy away, I pretended to pass out from the drug.
My parents were thrilled.
“Pamela, call the old man. Let’s finish this tonight.”
“That girl still thinks we care about her. She has no idea she’s about to rot here.”
Their words hit me harder than any slap.
Just this morning, they looked at me with kind eyes and told me how happy they were that I joined them on this trip.
Chapter 3
After Pamela spoke, everything changed. My parents stopped calling me Pamela and began using my full name coldly. They even cursed at me.
I couldn’t understand why they had changed so much. I needed to find the answer in this second chance at life.
Pamela soon brought an old widower to the caravan.
She said in the local dialect, “Make her suffer and she’s yours.”
My blood turned cold. I pinched my thighs to stay calm, but my heart burned with hatred. No wonder the man had tortured me so badly in my past life.
It turned out that it was all Pamela’s doing.
The old man came closer. His eyes were disgusting and his body smelled terrible. Just as he tried to touch me, I kicked him hard between the legs.
He fell, groaning in pain. But that was nothing compared to what he did to me before.
I ran out of the caravan, shouting, “Help!”
My parents and Pamela chased after me, but some herdsmen had already gathered after hearing the noise.
“Please save me!” I begged in the local dialect.
“They want to sell me to that man!”
Pamela’s face changed.
She quickly translated, trying to cover it up as she said, “She’s sick. She always thinks people are trying to hurt her. We’ll take her to the doctor.”
My parents grabbed my arms, trying to drag me back. I held tightly onto a herdswoman’s legs, crying,
“I’m not sick! They really want to hurt me!”
The herdsmen looked unsure. But then the old widower came out, holding his crotch and shouting in anger.
Pamela used the chance to say, “See? She’s crazy! Stay away from her!”
Hearing this and seeing the old man’s face, the herdsmen backed away. Even the woman I held pushed me off in fear. My parents grabbed me and dragged me into the caravan.
“Which wine did you not drink? How can you speak the local dialect?” my father shouted.
“You cunning girl!”
Pamela sneered as she said, “Do you think you can win? It’s useless. One word from me is enough to destroy you.”
She gave a signal and the old man came in with a stone.
“You dared to kick me. Let’s see if your legs are harder than this rock!”
In my past life, he had used that stone to smash my legs.
Terrified, I tried to run, but my parents held me down.
“Break her legs! She won’t be able to escape!”
“Make sure she can never stand again. Then she’ll never compete with Pamela!”
They looked like monsters. The old man raised the stone.
After that, suddenly, I heard a voice behind me.
“Stop! Don’t touch Madeline!”
Andrew rushed in, pushed the old man away and helped me up.
“Madeline, are you hurt?” he asked, holding me tightly.
Then, he turned to my parents.
“Uncle, Aunt … weren’t you supposed to be traveling? How could you let this happen? I need answers.”
