Chapter 3

On the second day, I stayed at home, Eliza knocked on the door.

"Alina, it's not a good idea for you to stay here."

I didn't speak.

She said again, "How about this? You will pay some rent. It is fifty-one dollars a day. Pay it as long as you stay here."

"You should know that this house in this location is worth a lot. It is worth several tens of thousands of dollars. I won't charge you a high rent."

"It's so funny."

"This house was transferred to me by my father."

My mom had an affair and took my brother away, leaving me and my father in this worthless old house.

After more than ten years, the house's worth was multiplied by more than ten times.

My mother's marriage failed. Without saying a word, she forced herself into our house. It made my father, who was lying in bed, angry to death.

Having learned from the past, I didn't tell them anything about the ash room in my previous life.

...

I didn't expect that they would want to kill me for three million dollars.

"Eliza, I only have a few days left. Don't we have an empty room at home? Let Carlos stay there. I was ignorant before. Carlos has been through so much hardship. Our family should support him."

As soon as I finished my words, Eliza was delighted.

"Alina, you are sensible. I will talk to your brother right away."

Looking at her departing figure, I couldn't help but sneer.

"Eliza is not here for rent. Instead, she is here to vent her anger for the sake of her old lover."

In my previous life, I endured it. After all, we were a family.

But Carlos, an outsider, wanted to interfere. I blocked him, saying that it would be inconvenient for me, a girl if he moved in.

Not long after my moving out, I happened to see Eliza and Carlos holding hands and entering a hotel.

...

Only then did I realize why my brother's ex-wife never had children? But Eliza got pregnant soon after only one month of their marriage.

"So it turns out it's Carlos's child."

The two of them had always had the idea of occupying my family's house.

Not far away, the sound of Eliza making a cell phone call came from the living room. She was full of joy.

I silently closed the door.

"After all, only after everyone is here can we start the feast."

Chapter 4

In the evening, Carlos moved in.

My brother was upset about what I had said yesterday. Eliza said something at the dinner table.

Only after that did Ryder look a bit happy.

He told my mom to send some groceries from our hometown to cook for Carlos tomorrow.

...

I received two messages on my cell phone.

The agency had completed the process.

A week later, I would receive my new ID card and new property certificate.

I turned off my cell phone and looked in the direction of the sofa.

Two men had a few drinks and started bragging.

Carlos took the opportunity to remark.

"Oh, Eliza, your belly has gotten so big." He leaned back on the sofa and looked around the room. Then he said, "We should change the environment here."

"Yes, Ryder, you don't want your son to live in this kind of environment from the moment he is born, right?"

Eliza echoed and grumbled at me.

"The beauty salon downstairs run by Reese Smith is funded by her younger sister. After my son is born, you, as his aunt, have to give him a lot of subsidies."

"Oh, they've come up with another idea and put it on me again."

Before, she asked me how much my monthly salary was. I said I made 3,000 dollars monthly.

She didn't believe it. She insisted on checking my pay slip, saying that I had spent so many years in college but I had no ability.

Fortunately, the year-end bonus and monthly salary in our company were settled separately.

"Eliza, how about I pay for you to have a check-up?"

Sensing her panic and nervousness, I intensified my tone.

"Didn't Reese Smith downstairs say that she was three months pregnant too? I saw her yesterday. Her belly is much smaller than yours."

"Sure enough! My brother looks much more sullen."

...

This time, he slammed the door and left.

"Eliza, why don't you go for a check-up?" My mom couldn't sit still. She said, "Let's figure out what's going on. When I was pregnant with Ryder, my belly wasn't this big."

Carlos's eyes flickered.

He said loudly, "Auntie, don't you know that people's living standards are better now, so their bellies are easier to get big."

Eliza interjected, saying, "Mom, I was told to be pregnant with a golden boy. That's why my belly is bigger than when you were pregnant with Ryder."

Next to the sofa, my brother's cell phone popped up a message.

...

[The monitoring device you purchased has been shipped. It is expected to arrive tomorrow.]

"It seems that my brother has become suspicious."

In the past, I wanted to do well on my own and waited to have a stable job before moving out.

But unfortunately, good people are often taken advantage of and end up being dismembered.

"In this life, I am determined to fan the flames."

In the living room, three people argued incessantly.

I silently turned off my cell phone and looked at the closed door of Ryder's room.

"I'm so looking forward to tomorrow."
