Chapter 3

“Maisie, this is my mom! Don’t you remember that your classmates say you're a child without mom? Who allowed you to call my mom as yours?!”

Seeing Maisie fall to the ground and wailed, I was instantly anxious and helped Maisie up to while staring coldly at Rielle.

“Apologize.”

Fiona tightened her brows and said unhappily, “Ryan, why are you being so mean to a little kid?”

She held Rielle in her arms without saying a word.

“I told you in advance last night that Rielle couldn't stand to see people calling me mom.”

“She's just upset and frustrated, it's not like she pushed Maisie on purpose.”

I stood firm, still insisting.

“Didn’t you see what just happened? Was that not on purpose?”

“Fiona, she just personally called Maisie a child without mom. Now tell her, does Maisie really not have a mom?”

Fiona hesitated for a few moments, but still softly coaxed Rielle without the intention of apologizing.

Asher's eyes rolled and he stepped forward to apologize with a smile.

“Mr. Curtis, I'm really sorry, Rielle grew up abroad—she’s a bit blunt and says whatever comes to her mind. Please don’t take it to heart.”

With his words, the little girl in Fiona’s arms looked even more triumphant.

“I didn't say anything wrong! The classmates have all said that Maisie is a child without mom! She's the one who robbed my mom!”

I clenched my fists and stared coldly at Fiona.

Before, when she said she had a cleanliness fetish, Maisie and I endured it and accommodated her.

She was willing to use overtime as an excuse to get involved with other men outside and I also turned a blind eye.

But now, I couldn't tolerate people calling Maisie as a child without mom.

“Fiona, I'll ask you again-”

“Is Maisie a child without a mom?”

A point of displeasure flashed across Fiona's face, but she sneered and said, “Do you really need me to explain how she became my daughter?"

"Enough. Today is Rielle’s day to play here. Don’t ruin everyone’s mood.".

Asher and his daughter watched from the side, enjoying the drama.

Fiona heartbreakingly picked up Rielle and said, “Mommy will buy you some toys, okay?”

“And Elsa's pretty dress!”

“Good.” Fiona's face was full of favor.

Watching her back as she walked away, my heart grew cold. I finally said the words I had been weighing for so long.

“Fiona, let's divorce!”

Fiona's footsteps lurched and she coldly turned back.

“Ryan, do you think this is funny?”

“If you think this can threaten me, then it's fine as you wish.”

After saying that, she left without looking back.

The corner of Asher's eyes flashed with a smirk, but he quickly suppressed it and turned back to apologize to me.

“I’m really sorry. Fiona and I are innocent. She’s just someone who values emotions and loyalty deeply. She’s been kind to me since I got divorced early and my daughter has no mother. Please don’t take it personally or let this ruin your relationship.”

Asher added my contact information before leaving, said to compensate Maisie’s broken painting.

“Asher, come on!”

Fiona holding Rielle stood outside not far away, softly shouting him.

“Coming!”

Asher chased after him with a joyful smile, and before they could go far, the sound of their conversation clearly reached my ears.

“Fiona, really? Ryan said he wanted a divorce out of anger. How could you agree so easily?”

Fiona sneered. “He used all his means to beg for this marriage, how could he possibly give up a divorce?”

“Just now he was so mean to our Rielle. What I said before was just a small punishment for him, it won't be long before he begs me to come back.”

I couldn't help but sneer.

Chapter 4

Fiona, people change.

The Ryan Curtis who used to fight for love died.

Now for the sake of my daughter, I would choose to leave you completely.

Maisie hid in her room and cried non-stop. “Dad, all my classmates say that Mommy is Rielle's mom, but I didn't steal Mommy from her...”

Later, she fell asleep while holding a picture of Fiona, but I couldn't sleep at night.

I opened my cell phone and saw that Asher had updated a friend circle.

“Rielle finally has the missing mother's love. What belongs to us, no one can take away!”

Beneath the caption was a photo of the three of them, arms around each other, smiling warmly at the camera like a picture-perfect family.

I casually clicked a like and suddenly a message popped up on my cell phone.

Asher sent a video. I opened it to see Fiona’s beautiful face on the screen. The timestamp was from shortly after she returned to the country.

A friend asked her, “Fiona, what do you think is the happiest thing you've ever done?”

She replied nonchalantly, "Probably last week, overseas. I coaxed Rielle to sleep and then pulled Asher into the bathroom.”

Paired with the softness in the bottom of her eyes and the uproar coming from around her.

My hands and feet are cold.

Asher shared a quote in his circle of friends: Ever since we had a child, we’ve barely had time for ourselves. We can only sneak around to do this and that after Rielle falls asleep…"

I was lost in thought when Asher sent a message again.

[I'm really sorry, I just clicked the wrong one and actually sent it to you by mistake, and when I realized that, I can't withdraw it anymore.]

[But to be honest, you should also know how Fiona feels, right?]

[In the beginning, it was because you used underhanded tactics that you forced the marriage to be her husband, but in these three years abroad, she has always accompanied me and Rielle.]

“Although Rielle is not her own, Fiona is more thoughtful and considerate than Rielle’s own mother. Even if we break up, she still can't let go of me. It won't be long before we will still come back together.”

“Mr. Curtis, I know your family is wealthy and you don’t lack for women. I suggest you don’t torture yourself any further. Just bow out gracefully.”

After saying that, he sent another picture.

Rielle was in the center smiling brightly, he and Fiona kissed the girl's cheeks at the same time, it really looked like a beautiful family.

I smiled and replied to him, “Okay.”

Then I called my mom's number.

“Mom, I've made up my mind. I'm taking Maisie to settle abroad and I'll be leaving in a few days.”

My mom's surprised voice came.

“Really? But I heard that Fiona has returned to Canada. You’ve only just reunited as a family—will she agree to this?"

I smiled ruefully and bitterly.

“She couldn’t be happier.”

For the first time, I didn’t wait for Fiona to come home before going to bed, like I always did in the past.

It was already two o'clock in the morning when Fiona returned.

She had just entered and frowned when she saw the darkened room.

Normally, I would leave a light on for her every time, but this time was an exception.

Not only this time, after that also no longer bother her. The whole three days, I never said a word to Fiona.

Seemingly sensing that something was wrong, Fiona came back with a gift box.

“Ryan, this is for you.”

A trace of apology crossed her face. “Rielle was out of line the other day, so I apologize to you and Maisie on her behalf.”

Saying this, she opened the gift box, inside lay an outdated watch quietly. She took it out. “I'll help you put it on.”

I didn't move to avoid it, “No need to bother.”

That watch, I had seen in Asher's circle of friends.

It was a model that he disliked as outdated and old and flirted with the idea of throwing it away.

Chapter 5

With an expressionless face, I crossed over to Fiona, hugged Maisie, changed my clothes and drove out the door.

She swept her gaze, froze, and stopped on me for a long time.

“You… act so different today. Where are you going? I'll drive you.”

Now Fiona seemed extraordinarily attentive.

The rearview mirror reflected my crisp, sharp casual suit. Before, I only wore gentle, homely clothes around her.

But in the three years she wasn’t here, I started a company, attended social events and even handled things like fixing plumbing myself.

I wasn’t incapable of living without her.

As for driving-

“No need, I should be more skillful at driving than you now.”

Besides, today’s trip was to cancel Maisie’s domestic identity documents.

Three hours later, as we exited the bureau after completing the paperwork, I saw Fiona’s car parked at the entrance. Her brows furrowed, and she stared at me sharply.

"Ryan, what are you doing here with our daughter?"

She came all the way more over and saw me go in with Maisie in my arms, only to come out three hours later.

For some reason, she was uneasy as if she was being pulled up in her heart.

“Nothing, the ID card expired, so I came to get a new one.”

“Aren't you busy today? I heard that Asher is looking for a job recently, he probably needs you.”

Fiona stared at me closely, her expression obscure.

After a long time, she laughed coldly, “Ryan Curtis, you're very good.”

“It's the first time I've seen one that pushes his wife out on his own. Since you said so, I'll do as you wish.”

The car door was slammed, and Fiona's car disappeared in an instant.

I really didn't understand how she got angry when I fulfilled them.

It wasn’t until her assistant called me that I learned the truth.

“Sir, Miss Harper deliberately cleared her schedule to spend the day with you and your daughter. Why did you upset her so much that she left? And now look at this—she’s gotten herself drunk and gone to see Mr. Rudolf and his daughter again…"

The assistant had always felt that Fiona and I were a good match and was determined to set us up.

But now, I smiled to myself. “Thank you, but, let her go.”

After all, there were still three more days.

Maisie and I would be leaving.

But how could I not have expected that on the day I finished helping Maisie with her transfer, she was pushed into the water by Rielle, triggering an emergency.

I went crazy and brought Maisie to the hospital to save her.

But I was told by the hospital that Fiona transferred the city's medical resources, to Rielle treatment of allergies.

Looking at Maisie's face, I desperately dialed Fiona's phone, begging her to save Maisie.

Asher's sobbing voice came from the other end of the phone, and Fiona sounded anxious, but laughed out grimly.

“Ryan, what are you pretending to be pitiful again? Maisie is fine, how could anything happen to her?”

“The day I accompanied you guys, you were the one who kicked me out of the house, and now that Rielle is severely allergic, what are you trying to pull in order to compete for jealousy?”

The taste of blood came from my throat and I was about to explain when the phone beeped busy.

I was overwhelmed by a wave of despair.

I thought Maisie would cry, but I didn't expect her to suck in oxygen and look at me in an unusually calm manner, “Dad, Mommy really doesn't want me this time, right?”

She smiled knowingly and weakly wiped away my tears.

“Don't cry, Daddy. Then I don’t want mommy either.”

In the end, I still called my mom and used her contacts to fire up a special physician from the neighbouring city.

The last few days of hospitalization, Fiona did not appear from beginning to end.

The TV station also played the story of Fiona's overbearing efforts to mobilize the city's medical resources in order to save people's lives.

I coldly looked at the face with worry written all over the screen.

Fiona, since you loved them so much, my daughter and I would grant what you wish.

The day Maisie was discharged from the hospital, I canceled the domestic identity, deleted the Fiona contact information, broke the cell phone card and took Maisie to completely leave the city.
