Chapter 1 of Replace My Sister and Marry the Mysterious Man

Wearing a wedding dress, I married my sister's boyfriend.

On the day I was supposed to return to my parents' home, I didn't show up.

My father said, "She's just deliberately putting on airs."

My mother, with a cold face, said, "She's been petty since she was a child."

My sister cried pitifully, "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have argued with my sister."

But, I was already dead.

1

"You imposter! How dare you pretend to be her!"

On the third day of the wedding, the man, with bloodshot eyes and a crazed expression, rushed toward me.

I tried to explain, but he didn't give me a chance.

In an instant, I was lying on the floor, warm liquid flowing out.

In my last moments, I dialed my parents' number.

But they didn't answer.

My phone was taken away, my body grew colder, and my soul slowly left my body and floated back home.

Today was the day for the twins to return to their parental home.

My sister sat in the center of the crowd, surrounded by people, smiling brightly as she held her newlywed husband's arm.

The whole house was decorated festively, and everyone had happy smiles on their faces.

Everyone was concerned about my sister's new married life.

As time passed, a relative remembered me. "Janet has been home for half a day, why hasn't Carol returned yet? Didn't they both get married on the same day?"

My father clicked his tongue in annoyance, "Who knows, she's probably just trying to put on airs again. That girl has always been the one to worry us the most."

My mother added, "Remember that time when we were going to the amusement park, and the whole family was waiting in the car just for her?"

"On such a joyful day, don't worry about her."

But it was my sister who was late that time.

I had been sitting obediently beside my mother.

When my sister finally showed up with her school bag, my mother secretly pinched me and shouted.

"Carol, why are you dawdling? Hurry up and get over here."

That was when I understood that in the eyes of my parents, my sister and I were not the same.

The atmosphere became lively again, everyone surrounded my sister, my mother touched my sister's face and asked if she was happy, my father pushed imported fruits towards her, and her newlywed husband looked at her with loving eyes.

My sister enjoyed the care and love of everyone.

Meanwhile, I lay cold and alone on the floor, forgotten by everyone.

2

On the first day of my death, my body still hadn't been found.

That evening, everyone sat together for dinner at a large table filled with my sister's favorite foods.

Relatives and friends gathered around the table.

My cousin wanted to save two seats for me.

My mother casually waved her hand. "The seats are already tight, and since she's not here, there's no need to save her a spot."

My father added, "I think she feels like she's outgrown us and doesn't want to stay with us, her parents. Leave her alone, she'll come back once she realizes her mistake."

"It's all my fault. I shouldn't have argued with my sister before the wedding," my sister said with a sigh, looking a bit aggrieved, "She must be upset, otherwise, I would call her to apologize."

"No need. Your sister's temper is something else, I don't know who she inherited it from. Even though you're twins, her temperament is so foul and stubborn, not likable at all."

My mother frowned deeply, and even her voice lost its warmth when she mentioned me.

Other relatives also criticized me for being immature, asking how I could quarrel with my sister.

After all, she was my sister, bonded by blood.

Listening to their criticisms, I really wanted to ask, as the elder sister, must I always unconditionally yield to my younger sister?

Was it wrong not to want to marry in her place?

But I was already dead, and the dead cannot speak.

I didn't even have the chance to question them.

A month ago, my sister was caught dating two men at once, and one of them threatened to take revenge on her.

My sister became anxious and turned to me.

I told Mom and Dad about this.

They didn't believe me at all.

My mother looked at me mockingly, "I never thought you could be so malicious, making up lies like this to ruin your sister's reputation."

My father snorted coldly, "You can't even lie properly, truly stupid and foolish."

They locked me in a dark storage room, saying it was to teach me a lesson.

I was locked in there for a whole day and night.

At night, they were laughing and playing in their room while I leaned against the door of the storage room, swallowed by darkness and hunger.

It was so similar to now.

This time, how long would it take them to find me?

3

When I was let out, my parents were comforting my sister.

She was hugging them, tears streaming down her face, "Mom, Dad, I'm so scared."

My mother held her arm, her face full of concern.

"Don't be scared, don't be scared. It's just a relationship, after all. Neither of you is married, it was mutual. What right does he have to take revenge?"

My father slapped the table hard.

"Want to take revenge on my daughter? He'll have to go through me first!"

My sister sobbed, "But he's been in jail and was involved in some shady business."

Mom and dad looked at each other.

"How did you end up dating someone like that?" my father asked, puzzled.

"I didn't mean to..." My sister covered her face and cried.

My mother immediately felt sorry for her, pulling her into her arms, "Why are you being so harsh? What's done is done, we'll find a way to deal with it."

My father, feeling a bit guilty, said, "I was just worried. I'm sorry, Janet."

The three of them huddled together affectionately, while I stood there like an outsider.

They had always favored my sweet-talking but cruel-hearted sister since we were little.

Even though they knew she was hiding something, they were willing to tolerate it.

Unlike me, who only seemed to invite their dislike.

My heart ached faintly, and I lowered my gaze, not wanting to see this happy family of three anymore.

After comforting my sister for a while, my parents discussed something and then looked at me in unison.

My father looked me up and down before speaking, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, "Carol, you and Janet are twins. You should take her place and marry that man."

Mom also rarely looked at me directly.

"We'll give you a dowry of 20,000 dollars. After you marry him, live well with him. People have feelings; even if the truth comes out later, he won't make things difficult for you."

My sister clung to my arm, "Sister, please, help me, okay?"

As they said this, their attitude was so matter-of-fact.

As if they already knew that the sensible me would give them a satisfactory answer.

But I was human too.

Summoning my courage, I couldn't help but ask them, "Why should I marry that man when it was my sister who made the mistake?"

My mother slapped me hard across the face, angrily accusing me, "What nonsense are you spouting? I never thought you could be so selfish. Janet is your own sister. How can you bear to see her thrown into the wolf's den?"

So it was unacceptable for Janet, but okay for Carol?

I didn't voice that question because deep down, I already knew the answer.

4

On the second day of my death, my body grew even stiffer.

After waking up, my parents began tidying up the house.

That used to be my job.

After we turned seven, my mother said she wanted to teach us sisters life skills.

My sister would get by with her sweet talk and playful antics, while I, feeling sorry for my mother, happily helped with the chores.

Somehow, cleaning the house eventually became my responsibility.

I watched as my parents busied themselves around the house.

Once the ceremony of returning home was over, the lively atmosphere gave way to the silence that follows.

It was the first time I realized how big and quiet our home really was.

Out of boredom or frustration, my father cursed while cleaning the floor, looking towards my room.

"You little troublemaker, you have to make a scene on such a happy day."

Yes, I was really dead now.

If he knew I was dead now, would he regret it?

A faint bitterness rose in my heart.

"It's better that she didn't come. After all, that man is a thug. Who knows what he might do if he loses his temper."

My mother's voice pulled me back from my thoughts.

"Besides, they were both with Janet. What if they notice something? That would be disastrous."

So, they knew too.

They knew that these men were my sister's boyfriends. Even if I looked the same, the heart cannot lie.

I said the same thing at the time.

But my parents told me that as long as I treated the man sincerely, he would eventually see my worth.

It wasn't that they didn't know; they just didn't love me enough.

I resented their neglect, their favoritism.

Why should I have to be the shadow of my sister, slipping away quietly?

"Ah!" My mother accidentally dropped the fruit platter, shattering it.

She quickly turned her head towards my room and shouted.

"Carol."

Then she realized I wasn't there and sighed in frustration.

"These were always Carol's chores."

My father was silent for a moment. "Call her."

Will they find out?

I felt a flicker of hope.

My father took out his phone.

On the phone screen was the call I made before I died.

Frowning, my father called back.

After just a few rings, a woman's voice replaced the tone,

"Sorry, the number you have dialed is currently unavailable…"

My father's tone was full of displeasure, "Outrageous, she's not even answering the phone."

My mother's eyes filled with undisguised disgust when she heard him, "That child was a waste to raise."

Yes.

I was dead, so naturally, I was a waste to raise.

5

I thought I would remain lying on the cold floor.

Until my body started to rot and someone finally found me.

Unexpectedly, the man, my husband in name, returned.

He carried a chainsaw, walking towards me with a blank expression.

His gaze faltered slightly when he saw the white medical kit in the middle of the cabinet.

That was the medical kit I had prepared specially for him.

After my parents pleaded with me, I had resigned myself to my fate, my heart died.

No one would ever love me. My only purpose was to sacrifice myself for my sister.

On our wedding day, the man gently touched my face.

"Carol, we're finally married. I'll take care of you for the rest of my life."

The love in his eyes was almost reverent.

It is something I have always longed for.

Unfortunately, he didn't love me; he loved my sister.

That sincere affection wasn't meant for me.

I closed my eyes bitterly, hesitating whether to tell him the truth before he discovered it himself.

When I opened my eyes, I noticed several wounds on his body.

Remembering his dangerous background, I swallowed the truth back down.

Even at that moment, I still wanted to protect my family.

The next day, I went out and prepared a special medical kit for him.

Inside, besides regular cold medicine, there were special treatments for injuries caused by sticks and knives.

That night, the man sat quietly as I treated his wounds.

He picked up a bottle of antiseptic, stared at the instructions, and fell silent.

I watched him, trying to read his expression.

Suddenly, he looked at my body with anger on his face.

"All this useless stuff. If you hadn't pretended to be your sister, I wouldn't have done this."

"Now you're dead, and I have to go on the run."

But I never intended to impersonate my sister.

I rushed forward, trying to stop him from getting closer.

But no matter how hard I tried, it was useless.

I could only watch helplessly.

Watch as I slowly turned into pieces.

Would no one ever discover the truth?

6

On the fifteenth day after my death, my parents still hadn't contacted me.

My sister and her new husband went on their honeymoon, and my parents were closely following her updates on social media, never once thinking about me.

When the police called, my father angrily snapped,

"What nonsense! A scam call, my daughter is alive and well, on her honeymoon with her husband, and you're telling me she's dead?"

My mother agreed, "Exactly, these scammers are getting worse at their job."

It wasn't until the police showed up at their door that they seemed to finally remember me.
