Chapter 1 of Rejected For An Omega, Marked By The Alpha King

For two years, I drained my own blood and emptied my private vaults to brew anti-silver potions, waiting for my mate Caleb to return victorious from the rogue wars.

But the day he finally came back, he brought a fragile, sweet-smelling Omega named Lily and publicly rejected me in front of the entire pack.

"I, Caleb, reject you, Serena, as my mate."

He claimed Lily had risked everything to gather healing herbs to save his life at the border, and he owed her his absolute protection.

He looked at my hands, which were covered in tiny, faded scars from forging his winter armor, with nothing but cold, bleak distance.

He even allowed this lowly Omega to steal my dead mother's sacred Luna veil for their upcoming mating ceremony, treating my bloodline's legacy like dirt.

He truly believed I was just a jealous, bitter woman, completely unaware that every potion and every piece of armor that kept him alive was secretly woven with my blood and my personal crest.

Instead of begging or shedding a single tear, I calmly accepted his rejection and picked up the golden-sealed royal decree from the table.

"I will accept the royal summons. I will go to the Royal City."

I left him to rot with his fake savior, ready to meet the Lycan King and awaken the terrifying power of the hidden White Wolf.

Chapter 1

Serena POV:

*A northern wind, sharp with the tang of iron and pine, scoured the stone of the balcony. It billowed the heavy fabric of my white velvet gown, pressing the cold cloth against my limbs until they grew numb. Below, the fortress's great gates of hammered iron stood impassive.*

Today was the day Caleb would return.

*My fingers, straying from their stiff clasp at my waist, found the wolf-tooth pendant at my throat. Its surface was worn smooth with handling.*

Two years ago, under the gibbous moon, Caleb had knelt before my father, the Alpha of the Ironblood Pack. He had handed me this pendant, promising that once he returned victorious from the rogue wars, we would complete our mating ceremony.

*The clatter of wheels on the cobblestones below, a harsh, grinding sound, pulled me from the reverie.* A black carriage, bearing the stark military crest of our pack, lumbered into the courtyard.

*A frantic drumming began behind my ribs.*

The heavy carriage door groaned open, and Caleb stepped out. *He was encased in his dark winter armour, a broader, more formidable figure than the one I held in my memory.*

*My feet carried me a single step forward, a prelude to running down the stone stairs to greet my mate. But another scent, alien and unwelcome, arrested the motion. It was not the clean odour of blood and pine I had anticipated from the battlefield. This was a cloying sweetness, like crushed flowers left to rot, the unmistakable and feeble scent of an Omega.*

Caleb turned back to the carriage and gently helped a fragile-looking woman step down. *She was swathed in a thick fur blanket, her face a pale oval in the gloom, and she forced her eyes wide, a pantomime of innocence.*

*A knot of revulsion tightened in my gut, and a low growl vibrated deep in my chest, a sound I had to swallow before it could escape.*

*I descended the grand staircase, the hem of my white gown whispering against the cold stone. My father, the Alpha, stood in the courtyard with his arms crossed, his gaze narrowed to slits upon the strange woman.*

"Caleb," *my father's voice was a low rumble, the kind that brooked no argument.* "You bring a stranger to our core lands."

Caleb walked forward, shielding the Omega behind his broad shoulders. *He did not look at me with the longing of a returning mate. His glance was a wretched mixture of guilt and a stubborn, misplaced pride.*

"Alpha," Caleb bowed his head slightly. "And Serena."

He finally looked at me, *and a cold clamp seized my lungs. There was no warmth in his eyes, only a bleak distance.*

"I have something to say," Caleb continued, his voice echoing in the unnerving silence of the courtyard. "In front of the Moon Goddess and the Alpha."

*I stood perfectly still, my hands folded before me, fingers laced so tightly the knuckles ached.*

"Say it," *I told him, the voice that emerged from my throat thin and brittle, a stranger to my own ears.*

Caleb took a deep breath.

"I, Caleb, reject you, Serena, as my mate."

*The ancient words, freighted with sacrilege, hung in the freezing air.* The rejection ritual. *It was a law etched into the very foundation stones of our pack, a means to sever a bond the Moon Goddess herself had woven.*

*The moment the words left his mouth, it was not a force that struck me, but a hollowing out, a violent vacuum where my soul had been. A silent, agonizing scream ripped through me, a soundless howl of pure loss that threatened to tear my throat apart. The warmth receded from my fingertips, and the blood in my veins seemed to slow to a painful, crystalline sludge.*

My knees trembled, but I forced myself to stand tall.

I am the daughter of the Ironblood Alpha.

I do not beg.

*I met Caleb's gaze, ignoring the suffocating pressure in my chest.*

"I, Serena, accept your rejection."

*The invisible tether between us did not snap; it disintegrated into dust.* A cold emptiness settled in my heart.

Caleb looked surprised, as if he expected me to cry or scream.

Instead, I turned to the wooden table near the courtyard entrance. On it lay a rolled parchment sealed with gold wax. *It was a decree from the Royal Pack, summoning high-ranking females for the Lycan King's mate selection.*

I picked it up and walked over to my father.

"Father," I said, my voice steady. "I will accept the royal summons. I will go to the Royal City."

My father looked at me, his eyes full of sorrow and silent pride.

Before he could speak, a soft, pathetic cough came from behind Caleb.

"Caleb..." the Omega whimpered, releasing a faint wave of her sweet pheromones. "Please don't make the Alpha angry because of me. I can leave."

My father let out a furious roar.

*His Alpha aura exploded into the courtyard, a palpable wave of pressure. The air grew thick as mercury, and the surrounding warriors' spines emitted dull, cracking sounds as they were forced down, their knees striking the rough cobblestones with sickening thuds that scraped flesh from bone.*

The Alpha is the absolute protector and ruler of the pack. His anger is the anger of the earth itself.

"You dare bring this weak creature here and reject my daughter?" my father roared at Caleb.

Caleb stood his ground, though his face paled under the Alpha's pressure.

"Her name is Lily," Caleb argued, his voice strained. "Her mother died at the border, torn apart by rogues just to bring me healing herbs. I owe her my life. I must take responsibility for her."

*I looked down at my own hands. They were a tapestry of tiny, faded scars. For two years, I had drained my own private vaults and spent countless nights brewing anti-silver potions. Silver was the only substance that could inflict fatal, unhealing wounds on our kind. I had ruined my hands to coat his armour and protect his life.*

I looked up at Lily's hands, which were clutching Caleb's arm. They were soft, white, and completely free of calluses.

*The certainty I had held for two years-that our bond was sacred, that his return was my future-felt like rotted timber, crumbling to dust at a touch.*

*I reached up to my neck, unclasped the wolf-tooth pendant, and cast it onto the cobblestones at Caleb's feet. The bone cracked upon impact, a sound as final as a closing tomb.*

*"You use 'responsibility' as a rag to cover the stench of her cheap perfume on your armour," I said coldly.*

My father's eyes turned crimson red, his fangs extending over his bottom lip.

"Caleb," my father's voice was absolute. "From this moment on, you are banished from the core circle of the Ironblood Pack. *Take your Omega and rot on the outer borders.*"

Caleb looked down at the broken pendant, his jaw tight.

"I accept my punishment," he muttered.

*I offered Caleb a polite, vacant smile.*

"Make sure to send me an invitation to your mating ceremony, Caleb," I told him. "I would hate to miss the celebration."
