Chapter 1 of Rejected by the Mafia King After He Killed Our Unborn Heir

Ninety-nine times, I forgave Marco De Luca.

In our world, forgiveness was not a virtue—it was a survival skill. A mafia wife learned early when to lower her eyes, when to swallow questions, and when to pretend she did not notice the lipstick stain on a glass or the unfamiliar perfume clinging to her husband’s coat. Silence was currency. Endurance was loyalty.

I mastered both.

But the hundredth betrayal killed my child.

The night it happened, the De Luca estate glittered with excess. Crystal chandeliers reflected soft gold light across marble floors, and the air hummed with laughter, clinking glasses, and whispered deals sealed behind polite smiles. It was a celebration—another alliance secured, another port brought under family control. Marco was radiant that night, dressed in a tailored black suit, the kind that made men straighten their backs and women glance twice.

I stood at his side, one hand resting on my stomach, still flat enough that only those who knew would notice. Four months pregnant. The next heir of the De Luca family growing quietly inside me.

Everyone knew how important this child was.

Everyone—except my husband.

By midnight, my head throbbed from the noise and the cigar smoke. Marco was pulled into another conversation with men who spoke in coded language and carried guns beneath their jackets. I leaned close to him and whispered that I was tired, that I wanted to go home.

“I’ll have someone drive you,” he said without looking at me.

“I’m fine,” I replied. “I can wait.”

Before I could say anything else, Bianca Russo appeared at his side like she always did—too close, too familiar, her hand slipping easily onto his arm as if it belonged there. Her dark hair cascaded over one shoulder, her lips glossy, her smile sharp and hungry.

“I’ll take Elena home,” Bianca said lightly. “You’re busy.”

Marco glanced at her, then at me. He didn’t hesitate.

“Good,” he said. “That saves time.”

I remember staring at him, waiting for him to meet my eyes. Waiting for him to notice the tension in my shoulders, the unease curling in my chest. Bianca had been drinking all night. I could smell the alcohol on her breath even from a step away.

“I can drive,” I said quietly.

Bianca laughed, slipping the keys from her clutch and dangling them between her fingers. “Relax. I’m fine. I drive better after a drink anyway.”

Marco smiled, indulgent and distracted, already turning back to his guests. “Don’t be dramatic. Go home and rest.”

That was betrayal number one hundred.

The crash came fast. A blur of headlights, the violent scream of twisting metal, the sound of my own voice calling out in terror before everything went black. Pain ripped through my body like fire, sharp and unforgiving, followed by a cold emptiness that swallowed me whole.

When I woke up, the world was white and silent.

The room smelled of antiseptic and expensive flowers. Machines beeped softly beside the bed, their rhythm too calm for the panic rising in my chest. My hands moved instinctively to my stomach.

Flat.

Empty.

I opened my mouth to speak, but no sound came out. My throat burned, raw and dry. A nurse noticed my movement and hurried over, her expression shifting instantly.

“Mrs. De Luca,” she said gently. “Please try not to move.”

My heart slammed against my ribs. “My baby,” I whispered. “Where is my baby?”

She hesitated. That single pause told me everything.

“I’m so sorry,” she said. “The impact was too severe. We did everything we could.”

The words echoed, hollow and unreal. I turned my face toward the window, refusing to let her see the tears spilling down my temples. My son—my heir—was gone.

I thought that was rock bottom.

I was wrong.

Hours later, as the sedatives faded and the night deepened, voices drifted through the thin curtain separating my room from the adjacent suite. I recognized them instantly.

Bianca was crying.

“I didn’t mean for this to happen,” she sobbed. “I swear I didn’t. I only had a few drinks. I thought I could drive. I didn’t think—”

“You need to calm down,” Marco said. His voice was low, intimate, the same tone he used when he wanted something from someone. “Lower your voice.”

“She was pregnant,” Bianca whimpered. “Don Salvatore will kill me. Elena will—”

“She won’t do anything,” Marco interrupted, irritation creeping into his words. “She doesn’t even know yet.”

My fingers curled into the sheets.

“I killed your child,” Bianca cried. “I ruined everything.”

There was a pause. Then Marco laughed.

Not loudly. Not cruelly. Just a quiet, dismissive sound that sliced through me sharper than any blade.

“It’s not like I wanted the baby anyway,” he said. “She was the one obsessed with heirs. I just needed my grandfather off my back until the power transfer was finalized.”

The room tilted.

“What about us?” Bianca asked softly. “You promised me.”

“I’ll divorce her once the papers are signed,” Marco replied without hesitation. “I can’t do it now. The timing is bad. But once everything is secure, she’s gone. I promise.”

“And the child?” Bianca whispered.

“I only want one with you,” he said. “A real one.”

I didn’t scream.

I didn’t cry.

Something inside me simply… died.

The woman who forgave him ninety-nine times slipped away in that hospital bed, buried alongside the son he never wanted. What remained was hollow, quiet, and painfully clear-eyed.

When the curtain finally rustled and footsteps approached, I forced my face into stillness. Marco stepped into my room moments later, his expression already rearranged into concern and grief, as if he were slipping on a well-practiced mask.

“Elena,” he breathed, rushing to my side. He took my hand, his palm warm, familiar. “Thank God you’re awake. I was so worried.”

I stared at him.

For the first time, I didn’t see my husband. I saw a stranger wearing his face.

“I’m so sorry about the baby,” he continued softly. “We’ll get through this. I promise.”

I pulled my hand away.

The flicker of annoyance in his eyes was gone as quickly as it appeared, replaced by patience. “You’re in shock. I understand.”

Behind him, Bianca hovered in the doorway, her arm in a sling, her eyes red and swollen. She looked small, fragile, repentant. Perfect.

“I just wanted to say I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I never meant to hurt you.”

“Don’t come closer,” I said quietly.

Marco frowned. “Elena—”

“She killed my son,” I said, my voice steady, terrifyingly calm. “And you put me in the car with her.”

The silence stretched.

“That’s enough,” Marco snapped. “You’re emotional. Don’t turn this into something it’s not.”

Something cold settled in my chest.

I looked at him, then at her, and understood at last.

“I want a divorce,” I said.

The words hung in the air like a gunshot.

Marco laughed nervously. “You don’t mean that.”

“I do.”

Fear flickered across his face—not fear of losing me, but fear of consequences. Scandal. Power. His grandfather.

He leaned closer, lowering his voice. “You’re not thinking clearly. Rest. We’ll talk later.”

I closed my eyes.

Let him think he had won.

Let him believe I was still the obedient mafia wife.

Because I was already planning my escape.

And when a Don’s wife leaves without permission, it is never without reason.
