Chapter 3
After being locked up for a day and a night, an angry Logan finally agreed to see me.
"Why did I marry a worthless woman like you?"
With that, he whipped me hard across the back, and blood immediately started to flow.
I didn't cry out or even frown. Instead, I crawled to his feet and spoke softly, "Honey, please believe me. Sophie and I were switched as babies. That's why she grew up in the noble castle all those years. But now with modern science, everything will be clear if you do a DNA test."
I looked up with tear-filled eyes and continued, "Honey, this is a perfect chance to humiliate the vampires. You've fought them for so long, yet he married a fake and takes pride in it. If you expose Sophie's real identity, won't Niles always be beneath you?"
Logan's hand froze in the air. He studied me carefully.
Just when I thought he didn't get it, he finally pulled me up and held me close. His touch was gentle, but his words were cold.
"If you're lying to me, you're dead meat."
They made me take the DNA test.
My parents tried to bribe the doctor secretly, but Logan's men caught them red-handed.
Now, there was no doubt left. Logan stormed into the vampire castle with a group and forced Sophie to take a DNA test too.
The results came back quickly.
I was the only one who had the noble bloodline.
Sophie was a fake.
Niles threw Sophie out and demanded that Logan hand me over.
"I'm a true pureblood. I'm the only one who deserves to marry the purest human!"
I couldn't resist fanning the flames. "Are you implying that Logan's blood isn't pure?"
No werewolf would take that lying down.
Logan's temper flared, and he pounced on Niles. They started fighting fiercely.
In the chaos, I set fire to the dungeon and freed the demon hunter, Adrian. I put the blame on the vampires.
But Adrian had been locked up too long. He could no longer walk or run.
The fight between Logan and Niles put both clans on high alert. The castle was heavily guarded at the gates, and I couldn't escape with the demon hunter.
Seeing so many watchful werewolves around, I made a quick decision and brought Adrian back to my new room.
The most dangerous place was actually the safest.
As soon as I closed the door, I heard Logan's rough voice. "Anna, where are you?"
My heart skipped a beat. How did he get back so fast?
If Logan found out I had rescued Adrian, it wouldn't matter how pure my blood was. I would face serious punishment.
More than that, I would lose Logan's trust for good.
Werewolves liked living in stone caves. Even after moving into human society and into houses, most of their furniture was made of stone, leaving no place to hide someone.
Logan's footsteps grew louder.
He was about to push the door open.
I took a deep breath and quickly rolled into bed with Adrian.
Just as I pulled the covers over us, the door was thrown open.
Logan was in a good mood. "Anna, you did well choosing me. You should've seen Niles's face when he found out Sophie's secret. It was priceless... Wait, why does the room smell like blood?"
Damn it, werewolves had a keen sense of smell!
I hadn't had time to bandage Adrian's wounds.
Logan sniffed the air, following the scent of blood right to my bed.
"Anna, are you hurt?"
For the first time, there was real concern in his eyes.
I shook my head and awkwardly said, "Gosh, maybe it's that time of the month?"
Logan clearly didn't understand. He reached to pull back my covers.
"What are you talking about? Time of the month? Show me where you're hurt."
Suddenly, his eyes widened, and he stared at me in disbelief.
