Chapter 2

Even though werewolves and vampires were so powerful, they still wanted to marry human women. The main reason was that they believed in pure bloodlines. The purer and nobler the blood, the stronger their children would be.

That was why my parents married me and Sophie off to the two strongest clans. No matter which daughter had children, they would benefit.

I smiled softly and walked over to Logan. I touched his chest with my delicate hands.

Logan's face softened a little, but then he grabbed my hand hard and threw me onto the bed.

"If you mess with my bloodline, I'll eat you where you stand!"

The stone bed burned my back, but I didn't show it. I wrapped my arms around Logan's neck and said sweetly, "Honey, what are you talking about? My mother was teaching me how to serve you properly. That's why I was late."

Logan's eyes were cold. He didn't believe me.

"Why didn't you two talk about this before? Why today?"

I bit my lip and hesitated before saying, "Actually, there's another reason she came. She also told me to keep a secret."

I took a deep breath like I had made a big decision.

"But now that I'm married to you, we're husband and wife. There shouldn't be secrets between us. I discovered that Sophie isn't actually my sister. She has no noble blood at all!

"If the vampire clan finds out, do you think she'll be in trouble?"

Logan's eyes lit up, and his tail shot up and wagged happily behind him. Then, he immediately let go of me and rushed outside.

I didn't relax until I couldn't see him anymore.

I couldn't sleep with Logan. With his size and how fierce he was in bed, he would have probably killed me by now.

Luckily, I guessed right.

Last life, Sophie and my parents blamed me for being the one with impure blood. Logan watched and enjoyed it.

The vampire Niles slapped me right away too. But since I had gone through the Embrace, he didn't kill me.

This time, I wondered if Sophie could really stand the test.

The next day, Logan stormed back. Sophie, Niles, and my mother were right behind him. As soon as he saw me, fire flashed in his eyes. He raised his hand and slapped me hard.

"You unfaithful, worthless woman! Where did you go last night? I already asked your mother. You didn't go to see her at all.

"And Sophie is the one with noble blood. You're a fake, trying to pollute our werewolf bloodline!"

Werewolves were incredibly strong. My head snapped to the side, and I spat out blood. Some of my teeth fell out too.

I fell to the ground, tears burning my eyes. I looked at my mother and shouted, "Mom, even now you still protect Sophie?"

Then I crawled to Logan and grabbed his pants, tears rolling down my cheeks.

"Honey, please believe me. Look how much I look like my father. How could I not be Anderson blood?"

Logan looked at my tear-streaked face, then back at Sophie standing behind him. Finally, he waved and told them to take me to the dungeon.

"Don't worry, Anna. I'll get to the bottom of this."

I nodded. "I trust you, honey."

The dungeon was cold and lifeless.

Most of the prisoners were humans who had fought back. They were ones called demon hunters.

Because I was Logan's wife, they threw me into a separate cell.

I persuaded the guard outside to leave me alone with just a few words.

That was when I saw the bloodied man not far away.

"Don't die. I know you're a demon hunter, and you were caught when spying. But don't worry. I'll rescue you, and I'll even take your place. I'll make an even better spy than you."

He raised his drooping eyelids slightly. When he saw I had no magic, a mocking smile played on his lips.

"You? Really?"

I nodded. "I'm Logan's new wife. No one would ever suspect me."

He snorted. "You're in prison now. Why should I trust you? How do I know you're not sent to trick me?"

I stayed calm and told him key events from my past life.

As I spoke, his eyes changed from doubt to surprise—then to full trust.

I knew this prison visit wasn't for nothing.

Now, it was time to make my move.

Chapter 3

After being locked up for a day and a night, an angry Logan finally agreed to see me.

"Why did I marry a worthless woman like you?"

With that, he whipped me hard across the back, and blood immediately started to flow.

I didn't cry out or even frown. Instead, I crawled to his feet and spoke softly, "Honey, please believe me. Sophie and I were switched as babies. That's why she grew up in the noble castle all those years. But now with modern science, everything will be clear if you do a DNA test."

I looked up with tear-filled eyes and continued, "Honey, this is a perfect chance to humiliate the vampires. You've fought them for so long, yet he married a fake and takes pride in it. If you expose Sophie's real identity, won't Niles always be beneath you?"

Logan's hand froze in the air. He studied me carefully.

Just when I thought he didn't get it, he finally pulled me up and held me close. His touch was gentle, but his words were cold.

"If you're lying to me, you're dead meat."

They made me take the DNA test.

My parents tried to bribe the doctor secretly, but Logan's men caught them red-handed.

Now, there was no doubt left. Logan stormed into the vampire castle with a group and forced Sophie to take a DNA test too.

The results came back quickly.

I was the only one who had the noble bloodline.

Sophie was a fake.

Niles threw Sophie out and demanded that Logan hand me over.

"I'm a true pureblood. I'm the only one who deserves to marry the purest human!"

I couldn't resist fanning the flames. "Are you implying that Logan's blood isn't pure?"

No werewolf would take that lying down.

Logan's temper flared, and he pounced on Niles. They started fighting fiercely.

In the chaos, I set fire to the dungeon and freed the demon hunter, Adrian. I put the blame on the vampires.

But Adrian had been locked up too long. He could no longer walk or run.

The fight between Logan and Niles put both clans on high alert. The castle was heavily guarded at the gates, and I couldn't escape with the demon hunter.

Seeing so many watchful werewolves around, I made a quick decision and brought Adrian back to my new room.

The most dangerous place was actually the safest.

As soon as I closed the door, I heard Logan's rough voice. "Anna, where are you?"

My heart skipped a beat. How did he get back so fast?

If Logan found out I had rescued Adrian, it wouldn't matter how pure my blood was. I would face serious punishment.

More than that, I would lose Logan's trust for good.

Werewolves liked living in stone caves. Even after moving into human society and into houses, most of their furniture was made of stone, leaving no place to hide someone.

Logan's footsteps grew louder.

He was about to push the door open.

I took a deep breath and quickly rolled into bed with Adrian.

Just as I pulled the covers over us, the door was thrown open.

Logan was in a good mood. "Anna, you did well choosing me. You should've seen Niles's face when he found out Sophie's secret. It was priceless... Wait, why does the room smell like blood?"

Damn it, werewolves had a keen sense of smell!

I hadn't had time to bandage Adrian's wounds.

Logan sniffed the air, following the scent of blood right to my bed.

"Anna, are you hurt?"

For the first time, there was real concern in his eyes.

I shook my head and awkwardly said, "Gosh, maybe it's that time of the month?"

Logan clearly didn't understand. He reached to pull back my covers.

"What are you talking about? Time of the month? Show me where you're hurt."

Suddenly, his eyes widened, and he stared at me in disbelief.
