Chapter 1
On our wedding day, my fiancé stopped me at the car and said, “I’m not here to pick you up.”
Seeing me stand there in shock, his friends laughed.
“The game’s over, I win.”
“Albert, you’re amazing! You really won this famous beauty.”
“Send me everything you lost and give them to me, not a cent less.”
Then my sister, Emily, wearing the same wedding dress as mine, was helped into the car by Albert.
The car sped off and when I tried to chase it, my family stopped me. My famous brother said, “Albert loves Emily and is marrying her today, so don’t make a scene.”
My actress mother held my hand and said, “Katherine, your sister has depression and only Albert can help her. Please give in.”
My rich father scoffed, “She’s lived Emily’s life for eighteen years. Giving up one man is already a good deal.”
They locked me at home so I couldn’t cause trouble at the wedding. I didn’t cry or yell; I almost smiled.
——
As soon as the bodyguards took me into the villa, a voice in my head said, “Host, do you want to die and leave this world?”
“Yes.”
“Please choose how you want to die.”
“I’ll jump off the building in front of Albert and the Blake Family to make them sick with regret.”
“Generating death method... confirmed. After death, you’ll receive a $14 million reward. This can’t be changed.”
“Confirmed.”
I was twenty-one, three years since Emily was found and I was a time traveler. I was the fake daughter of a wealthy family and my sister, Emily, was the real one who’d been switched at birth.
Having lost my real parents, I once felt lucky to come to this world with a loving family; a father, mother and brother. But everything changed on my eighteenth birthday when my father brought Emily back.
The villa was locked and people were watching me. “Miss, stay home, or you’ll get in trouble.”
Judy stood in front of me with a baseball bat, glaring. When I moved toward the door, she hit my leg and I fell in pain.
“Miss Emily told me to break your legs if you disobey,” she said, then shouted, “She’s trying to ruin the wedding! Stop her!”
Several bodyguards came toward me with clubs. I stepped back in fear. “What are you doing? I didn’t even try to run. How dare you hit me?”
“Miss, we know what you’re thinking. You might try to run later, so we’d rather break your legs now. With us here, you can’t ruin Miss Emily’s wedding!”
"Aren't you scared I'll tell my parents?"
“What good will telling the master and madam do? I’ll say you forced your way in and broke your leg jumping from the second floor. They won’t do anything.”
Chapter 2
“Attack her!”
The men rushed at me, swinging their clubs. I heard my bones crack as my white wedding dress turned red with blood.
But they didn’t hold back, as if they meant to kill me. “If I die here today, the Blake Family won’t spare you!”
“You still think you’re the Blake Family’s daughter? You’re just a mistake they took in! If they didn’t pity you, you’d already be gone. When Miss Emily returned, they wanted to kick you out, but the young master said keeping you was like keeping an extra dog. And you still dream of stealing her husband?”
I laughed. “So you’re not afraid I’ll ruin the wedding. You just want to kill me!”
“Maybe you’ll just fall to your death while trying to escape, right, Miss?”
I was scared. I could die, but not like this… not yet. What if I couldn’t return? I didn’t know where the strength came from, but I shoved the person in front of me, knocking over the eternal lamp my mother lit for Emily. It hit the floor, set the curtains on fire and soon the whole villa was burning.
“You little brat! How dare you start a fire!”
While they panicked, I ran out, dragging my injured leg. The villa had cameras everywhere, so they didn’t dare chase me.
Wearing my bloodstained wedding dress, I limped onto the street, dragging my broken leg, trying to catch a taxi to the hotel.
Maybe I looked too frightening and no taxi stopped. Finally, a kind woman pulled over and I begged her to take me to the hotel.
The hotel belonged to my father and the staff knew me. So when they saw me, no one dared to stop me.
When I entered the hall, my brother and parents were happily greeting guests. But their smiles froze the moment they saw me.
Reporters from all over were at this famous wedding. When I suddenly appeared, they rushed over to take photos.
My brother stormed over. “Why are you here? Useless fools! You can’t even handle one girl! You did this on purpose to ruin us, didn’t you? Want to be on the front page? Want fame that badly?”
My mother rushed over, worried. “Katherine, what happened? Is that blood on your dress?”
“It’s my blood. Emily’s people beat me half to death and I barely escaped.”
My father slapped me, blood spilling from my mouth. “Shameless girl! You just can’t stand your sister!”
My mother held my hand. “Katherine, did you say Emily’s people beat you?”
My brother pulled her back. “No way. That’s just paint. She’s putting on a show for the media!”
He grabbed my wrist and dragged me out. I stumbled and fell, my broken leg exposed for all to see. Everyone was shocked.
Chapter 3
My calf bone had pierced my skin, yet I still stood on the broken leg. Something no normal person could do. Luckily, the system activated pain defense, so I didn’t feel any pain.
My mother covered her mouth, crying. “Katherine, how did you get hurt so badly?”
My father’s eyes showed pain. “Why would you do this to yourself?”
Even my brother, who’d just yelled at me, was stunned into silence.
Albert pushed through the crowd and saw me on the ground. “Katherine?”
I lifted my bloodstained face and looked at him. “You came just in time. I have some questions for you.”
Emily arrived too, looking pure in her white wedding dress, but tears covered her face. “Katherine, today is the most important day of my life. Do you have to ruin it?”
She cried, shaking. “Why are you doing this to me? You’ve taken everything! I just want Albert… Can’t you let us be?”
My brother tried to lift me. “I’ll take you to the hospital.”
“Brother!” Emily cried. “The ceremony’s starting soon. Are you really leaving? This is just Katherine hurting herself. Do you think I’d beat my own sister?”
My brother pushed my hand away. “Katherine, you’re cruel. You hurt yourself just to frame Emily. Go to the hospital alone. Don’t worry, the Blake Family won’t keep a cripple. We’ll get you the best doctor.”
I knew talking was useless, but I stood up. “I just want to ask one thing, then I’ll go. Albert, from the start, being with me was just a bet, wasn’t it? You never really cared about me.”
“Yes.”
Tears streamed down my face. I once thought I was the luckiest, having loving parents, a caring brother and a lover who cherished me.
It turned out everything was just an illusion, easily broken. I could’ve stayed in this world with my family, but now I wanted to return. “One last question; why did you wait until the wedding day to tell me the truth, after already having me?”
“Because Emily couldn’t accept it, she made me keep it a secret.”
I laughed. “How thoughtful! She told you to reveal it on the wedding day, so I’d sit there in my dress like a fool. Wasn’t that just to humiliate me?”
“Nonsense! Emily isn’t as cunning as you think!”
I gave a bitter smile. “Not scheming? She’s faked suicide countless times since coming home. Anyone who truly wants to die doesn’t need saving!”
“Shut up! How can you talk about your sister like that!” Dad raised his hand to hit me, but Mom stopped him.
“Stop! Katherine’s badly hurt. Don’t hit her.”
“Dad, I’m your daughter too. You raised me with love. Just because I’m not your biological child, doesn’t mean I don’t deserve your trust.”
