Chapter 5
Sure enough, that night someone sneaked into the nursery, picked me up, and tried to switch me with Natalie's son!
I sneered inwardly and wailed at the top of my lungs.
My best friend, forewarned to stay vigilant, rushed in with her men.
The nurse attempting the switch was caught red-handed, but she refused to say who had ordered it. "Oh, oh, oh, Mom and Dad, please help me! This is unbearable!"
My best friend wept bitterly, and the Lawson couple hurried to comfort her.
The nurse eventually confessed, claiming she had tried to swap me with her son, but the old couple remained doubtful.
After all, the nurse’s baby was already a month old—the switch would have been easily exposed.
The excuse was too far-fetched.
Natalie then appeared, clutching her son and crying, thanking God.
Her harsh scolding of the nurse only deepened the old couple’s suspicions.
But with no evidence, they had no choice but to let it go.
For the next month at the confinement center,
Natalie behaved herself and caused no trouble.
I, however, was unusually sensible.
To protect my best friend’s figure, I refused breast milk and only drank formula.
I stuck strictly to the 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. routine every day. If I grew hungry at night, I pressed the button for the nanny, never disturbing my best friend’s rest.
Meanwhile, Natalie was constantly tormented by her son, sleepless, her breasts cracked from his feeding, wailing in pain.
She cursed bitterly, muttering, "Yin Yang, drinking formula makes me irritable and stupid."
I giggled before the Lawson couple.
I even babbled with them, palm to palm, showing cleverness that shamed Natalie.
With no outlet for her rage, she took it out on the scumbag Ethan.
"You promised to divorce Emily and marry me. When will you?"
"You said you had no feelings for her, only for me and our son. Have you changed your mind now?"
Ethan could only coax her patiently. "Natalie, you know my parents’ temper. Changing their minds isn’t easy. We must take it step by step..."
These words twisted Natalie’s emotions.
Alarm bells rang within her, and she finally made her move at the full moon banquet.
The banquet was crowded with guests, nearly every dignitary in Chicago present. Facing grandeur, my face was bright with smiles.
I bowed politely to everyone, looking immensely proud!
Everyone exclaimed, "We’ve long heard the Lawson family’s eldest son is blessed by heaven—smiling, bowing, even understanding Chairman Lawson's words during confinement. Seeing him today proves it true!"
"Congratulations to Chairman Lawson on the birth of such a gifted grandson!"
All praise went to me, while no one noticed Lucas, crying loudly in fright.
As Natalie held her son, grinding her teeth in fury, the long-absent Summers family suddenly arrived.
My best friend carried me forward. "Dad, Mom, you’re here..."
Before she finished, Su’s mother pulled out a paternity test report and slapped it in her face.
"Don’t call me Mom. I have no daughter so shameless!"
