Chapter 1

The wicked old lady next door stole my cherries, so I made a laxative sausage to lure her into a trap.

The 4J cherries that I bought from Walmart were stolen again from the doorstep. After checking the surveillance footage, I discovered that Kim, the neighbor next door, an old lady, took them.

I contacted Kim to retrieve the stolen cherries. Brian, her son, an idler, distorted the truth in the homeowners' chatting group, accusing me of being petty for a few fruits and bullying his 80-year-old mother who liked to collect junk.

Brian slapped me in the face with a 20 dollar bill and shouted angrily,

"It's just some cherries. This is enough for you to buy ten boxes."

I bought a large bag of pickled sausages and mixed the remaining laxatives in my house evenly into the sausages.

Don't you like picking up things at other people's doorsteps?

Mixing laxatives with sausages makes the taste even better. I invite your family to appreciate the deliciousness of my homemade sausages.

——

When I got home from work in the evening, I found that the 4J cherries I ordered from Walmart were not placed at the door.

I looked everywhere several times, even checked the fire hydrant and water tank, according to the pictures from the courier, but I couldn't find the missing cherries.

Then I could only come to one conclusion that was most unbearable for me:

Someone stole my cherries again!

Why did I say "again"? Because this was already the third time my Walmart delivery has been stolen.

The first time was a box of tangerines. I thought someone had accidentally taken the wrong one, so I didn't mind much since it wasn't worth much money.

The second time it was a box of apples. It was such a heavy box that anyone took it by mistake would open it and checked. But I still wondered if it was accidentally lost by the cleaner when cleaning the hallway.

This time, the stolen cherries were like an invisible slap in my face.

This is clearly intentional!

I looked up and glanced at the hidden corner next to my door frame. Thanks to my vigilance after my apples were stolen, I spent a lot of money to install a high-definition camera.

Otherwise, I couldn't find out the thief.

I opened my laptop and snuggled in bed to start checking today's surveillance videos.

Wow, it was the neighbor next door.

At 1:37 PM, the deliveryman wearing a blue safety helmet placed the cherries at my doorstep, took a photo, and turned around to the elevator.

At 3:28 PM, Kim appeared at my doorstep, holding her grandson with a backpack on his back. She carefully examining the words on the packaging box, she skillfully dragged my cherries back home with her grandson.

She didn't even look around suspiciously like a thief, but rather naturally as if she was taking her own delivery. In the corridor, she opened the packaging box by herself. The surveillance footage even clearly showed the red pattern on the cherry box, which made my heart ache.

I had argued with Kim's family many times about the clutter in the corridor. They just moved in and filled the shared corridor with all kinds of stuff, as if the corridor belonged to their family. Every time I came home from work, I could smell the stinky smell from their shoe rack.

"Oh, come on, what's the big deal? We have so many people in our family, naturally we have more things. You're just a single guy living here, how much space do you need in the corridor? Open the windows if you don't like the smell."

If it was just the stinky feet smell, I could hold my nose and bear with it. But several times, I found my delivery boxes and newspapers that were ready to be sold as scrap mysteriously appearing in their clutter.

When I tried to confront them in the homeowners' group chat, they pretended to be dead.

When I complained to the property management about their behavior, Ruby, Ruby, acted as if it had nothing to do with her and instead advised me not to ruin the harmony between neighbors over such a small amount of money.

Harmony? What a joke!

Over time, in the surveillance video, Kim opened the door again. She stuffed the cherry packaging box into the corner of the hallway, and then inspected the place where I put the waste. She skillfully took away a stack of flattened delivery boxes.

I was furious and immediately kicked Kim's door.

"Open the door, you old hag! Give me back my cherries!"

Chapter 2

I live in Room 401, Kim and her family live across the hall in Room 402.

They were all the worst of the worst.

They did all sorts of annoying things, like throwing cigarette butts downstairs, having their child play the piano late at night, and parking in other people's parking spaces. They never did anything good.

The neighbors whose blankets had been burned, who couldn't sleep because of the noise at night, and who could never find their own parking space, complained to Ruby over and over again. But Ruby and Kim's family were distant relatives. After hearing a few meaningless criticisms, they continued to do whatever they wanted.

Harry, Brian's precious son, just started elementary school. He liked to play pranks for no reason. He either set off firecrackers in the hallway or ran door to door shouting "Fire!" When the neighbors panicked and rushed out to check the situation, he just laughed and ran away.

Even so, Brian often complained in the homeowners' group, accusing the neighbors of being too harsh with his child and scaring this lovely kid.

The police couldn't arrest an 80-year-old bad old lady and an underage brat. Kim and her family just lowered their heads, put on a smile, and wrote a guarantee letter, and then the matter was over. The police could only give a few words of advice.

This family's bizarre deeds were well-known, and as a result, the price of my house is half as low as that of others in the same community. It really annoyed me.

Thinking of this, I knocked on the door in front of me with force, "Old lady, stop pretending to be dead! My camera caught you taking my cherries. Open the door quickly!"

An impatient man's voice came slowly from behind the door, "What are you shouting about? Are you dying? "

Brian squeezed half of his body out of the door crack, looked me up and down, and sneered, "Why are you shouting? What does it have to do with my mom if your cherries are lost? Don't make a fuss outside. It affects my precious son's piano practice. Don't force me to beat you!"

I stared at Brian's face, with obvious red juice at the corners of his mouth. It was obviously just after eating the cherries I bought that he opened the door. I retorted without politeness, "Your son's so-called piano practice is more like torturing the piano! He doesn't need any practice. It's better to find a part-time job in the funeral home and play some funeral music to earn some extra money for the family!

"So your old lady can stop stealing things from the neighbors every day!"

Brian's face darkened, and he spat at me, saying, "You despicable and shameless person. My son will become a pianist in the future. Shut your stupid mouth.

"And also, you said my mom stole your cherries, but how do you know? Maybe you lost it yourself and blamed an 80-year-old woman. What effrontery!"

A shameless person had the audacity to talk to me about moral. I gritted my teeth and suppressed my anger, turned on the surveillance video on my phone, and played the moment when the old lady took my cherries.

"Who are these two people? There is still some cherry juice on your mouth."

Brian glanced at the screen and, feeling humiliated and angry, he grabbed my collar and threatened me harshly.

"The cherries I ate were given to me by a friend a couple of days ago. If you dare to talk nonsense here again..."

"What are you doing? Let him go!" A stern male voice came from behind. I turned my head and saw two police officers. One of them already had his hand on the pepper spray at his waist, pointing at Brian and speaking in a harsh tone.

Brian immediately released my collar, and with a silly smile, he touched his own head and said,

"Oh, sir, my neighbor and I were just joking and getting to know each other! It's too much trouble for you two to come over so late at night!"

I quickly hid behind the police and took out the surveillance video, saying, "Look at this! The deliveryman from Walmart left the box at my doorstep. It was stolen by an old lady and a child from his family. The surveillance video captured everything clearly!"

The police carefully watched the surveillance video and then looked at Kim and Harry for a comparison, nodding and saying, "This evidence is conclusive. Your mother did steal his cherries, and the purchase record shows the price is 80 dollars. Since you have already eaten them, it's appropriate for you to compensate accordingly."

Brian made a bitter face and started to complain, "Sir, how can I afford to compensate him? My mother is in poor healthy, and going to the hospital every month costs a lot of money. Sending my son to piano class is another expense. My wife doesn't have a job, so our family relies solely on my meager income."

Brian then pointed at me and said, "Besides, my mom is old. She might have made a mistake, but it wasn't intentional. I saw cherries at the fruit stall downstairs. Same weight costs only about 20 dollars. Lucas, you are asking me for 80 dollars. Isn't that ripping me off?

My answer was straightforward and simple, with just two words, "No way!"

The police mediated for half an hour. The value was not high, so it did not meet the criteria for filing a case. The back and forth arguing made me exhausted. In the end, I had to accept the compensation of 20 dollars.

After we signed the mediation agreement, the police left. Brian immediately changed his face. His furry hand fumbled in his greasy pocket for a long time, and then he slapped a crumpled 20-dollar bill on my face, angrily shouting, "Just a box of rotten fruit. This is enough for you to buy ten boxes!"

Without waiting for me to react, he slammed the door shut with a loud bang.

I lowered my head and picked up the money, clenched it tightly in my hand, and smiled sarcastically in anger, "Go ahead and eat it! I put poison in those cherries. It will kill you animals!"

Back in bed, I tossed and turned. The more I endure it, the more infuriated I was. I searched for methods of retaliation on my phone and accidentally came across a news: [ Meat with laxatives left at the door and picked up by an old lady. The police urgently found her, but she stubbornly claimed she didn't take it.]

It was impressive.

The face of the lady in the video overlapped with Kim's. A brilliant idea came to my mind.

Chapter 3

Holding the 20-dollar bill from Brian, I came to the market near the community. After careful observation, I chose the dirtiest and worst-conditioned meat shop.

The boss with a full belly was wearing a dirty apron and sitting in a rocking chair. He was fascinated by the dancing beauties on the screen. When he saw me, he immediately greeted me, "Come. Take a look. The pork here is freshly slaughtered today. It's absolutely fresh!"

Yes, it's so fresh that flies are laying eggs on it.

I frowned and endured the stench in my nose. I guessed this meat didn't need any seasoning. Anyone who ate it would have to diarrhea.

"Boss, give me 20-dollar worth of sausages, vacuum packed, and then add this dose of laxative."

This is the laxative I used when I was constipated before. It had always been placed in a corner of my house. I didn't expect it to come in handy now.

Of course, to prevent any accidents from happening to Brian's family, I accurately controlled the dosage.

The meat shop owner scratched his head in confusion, "Hey buddy, is it a bit extravagant to take a laxative with a sausage flavor?"

But upon seeing the money in my hand, he stopped asking questions. He took the money and the laxative from me, turning around to busy himself.

An hour later, I returned home, carrying a black plastic bag with satisfaction. The butcher did a good job. The sausages in the package looked very tempting, and I didn't smell any strange smell.

Of course, there was also no trace of laxative.

I will retaliate in the same way and punish the evil neighbor!

I lay on the bed and started scrolling through my phone. The homeowners' group chat had already been lively.

Brian posted an edited video, in which I fiercely spoke to the camera, saying, "Ask your old lady to find a part-time job the funeral home, so that she won't steal things every day!

"Go ahead and eat it! I put poison in those cherries. It will kill you animals!"

At the end of the video, Kim was busy with household chores, walking unsteadily.

Brian said, "Everyone, take a look at this. My mom was just helping our neighbor clean up the trash in the hallway. She accidentally brought home some cherries that were placed at the door. Lucas actually verbally abused and threatened my 80-year-old mother. Now she is mentally weak and constantly afraid of unexpected events. Is there no conscience left when he bullied elderly people? Let's all see what this despicable animal has done!"

He mentioned me many times, and asked the group administrator to mention all members, but the group administrator ignored him.

Some people in the group were accusing me, but someone still found a loophole in Brian's words.

"Wait, according to this, your mother did take his cherries first, right? I remember a box of 4J cherries is not cheap."

"I remember that old lady in 402. She previously stole my quilt from the roof. I caught her red-handed and she still didn't admit it!"

"Exactly, I left a package at the door last time and lost it. It might be this old lady! I support 401."

It seemed that there are more people with brains.

I couldn't just be accused for no reason.

I released the surveillance footage of Kim stealing my cherries, and also posted the mediation agreement in the group.

"I intended to forgive you generously, but you insisted on bringing shame on yourself.

"Everyone, take a look. The police have already determined that this old lady is the thief. If it weren't for her old age, I would have sued her in court."

Brian sent several long voice messages.

I didn't even need to listen to those voice messages. The content must be insulting my whole family. But it's okay, I just like seeing him in a hurry.

Other homeowners started accusing Brian. It started with him stealing my cherries and extended to him throwing cigarette butts downstairs, Harry playing the piano late at night, and him parking in other people's parking spaces.

Brian started arguing with everyone, and I happily started watching the show.

Ruby finally appeared and advised everyone to keep harmony and not to fuss over trivial matters.

You are so generous. He is your relative. Of course you aren't a victim.

Ruby couldn't do anything else, but the best at starting fights.

But it was okay. I was used to her double faces.

I threw my phone aside and slapped the black plastic bag next to me.

Words were useless. We need to punish these evildoers.

Only magic could defeat magic.
