Chapter 6

The saleswoman paused for a moment, looked into my eyes, and smiled, "Your husband must be a good man. You have a beautiful smile when you talk about him."

"Yes, he is very good to me."

I took the watch and went to the supermarket to buy some ingredients.

After I got home, I called Nathan and said, "Are you coming back for dinner tonight? I made a lot of dishes."

"No."

"But..." I felt a bit sad. "We haven't had a meal together for several days. I know you just recovered your memory and have a lot of things to deal with, but it's just a meal together. It won't take up too much of your time."

"Piper, I really don't have time."

I stared at the piled-up ingredients in the kitchen and suddenly felt like crying.

I planned to tell him about my illness after dinner, but he didn't even want to have a meal with me.

Nathan used to be so clingy to me.

When I didn't come home for a company dinner, he would wait for me alone outside the restaurant and take me home after I was done.

But now, he was so cold to me. I didn't even have the courage to tell him about my illness.

Would he remain this cold even if he learned that I was dying?

I would be super sad. I was a coward. I dared not believe that he would become like that.

"Nathan, why are you so cold to me after your memory came back? Did I do something wrong that made you angry? Can you tell me straight?" I asked, in a choked voice.

But his voice was still cold. "I'm really busy. I gotta go."

Chapter 7

I stared at my phone in my hand blankly, and tears rolled down my face.

I didn't touch the ingredients after I entered the door and put them down.

Pulling my knees up to my chest, I sat on the sofa all night.

I was powerless and felt like crying.

The next afternoon, I woke up and threw away the rotten seafood and meat. I put the kettle on and cooked some oatmeal. After the meal, I started to make a travel plan.

I checked my phone from time to time.

I still didn't receive any message or phone call from Nathan.

After checking my phone countless times, I suddenly put down the pen in my hand.

Looking down at my notebook filled with words, I took a deep breath.

The bright sunlight outside the window shone through the sheer curtains, heating up the room, and the cicadas were very noisy in the afternoon.

I lowered my head and covered my tearful eyes.

Why am I crying?

Didn't he say he was busy?

He will come to me after he finishes his work. I just need to wait a little longer.

Just wait a little longer.

But I waited for three more days.

I still didn't receive any message or call from him.

I couldn't just wait anymore.

I put on my favorite dress, put on makeup, did my hair, and came to Nathan.

I wanted to ask him why he kept ignoring me.

But when I saw the beautiful and elegant lady by his side, all my resentment instantly disappeared.

My heart ached, and my hands trembled. I looked at Nathan with a smile. "Who is this lady?"

Chapter 8

Nathan didn't say anything.

The beautiful lady answered.

"I am Nathan Garcia's fiancée. My name is Grace Hill."

I finally realized that it was not my Nathan but Nathan Garcia.

Nathan didn't remember anything in the first place. He could only vaguely remember his first name Nathan, so I always called him Nathan.

The first thing he said after recovering his memory was to get married to me.

But now he ignored me and got engaged to someone else.

My eyes were moist and I stared hard at him. "Is it true?"

His eyelashes fluttered. "My parents arranged this marriage for me a long time ago."

There was a long silence.

I knew he had no intention of saying anything else.

I stood up. "I see, goodbye."

After saying that, I no longer looked at his face and left.

After returning home, I started to book tickets and pack my luggage.

I could travel without Nathan.

I went to the grassland in Boston with my luggage.

Cows and sheep leisurely grazed on the boundless grassland.

The sky was cloudless and reflected in the water puddles on the grassland.

Suddenly, I became extremely calm.

Actually, it was also great, wasn't it?

I had nothing and no one in the first place, and I was lucky to have Nathan by my side for three years.

It was great now. At least I would neither cry nor miss this world because of him.

It was good both for him and me.

My stomach hurt more often, but fortunately, I got painkillers.

But I realized that I might not be able to visit all the places I wanted to go.
