Chapter 1
I, Olivia Peterson was dragged to the operating table when I was about to deliver a baby.
My husband, the CEO of a listed company, Ethan Kennedy, forced me to donate bone marrow to his beloved, Layla Peterson.
And my brother, Hank Peterson, would be the surgeon.
My parents couldn't wait to sign the consent form for the surgery.
I knelt on the ground and begged them, "Can you please at least let me give birth to my baby?"
However, Ethan rejected me with a slap in my face.
Then, my baby died in my womb as I was tied to the operating table and had my bone marrow extracted.
Since I failed to win Ethan's heart, the system of my life sentenced me to death.
But later, those who murdered me knelt in front of my tombstone and confessed their mistakes.
——
Back a few hours before my death, I stroked my bulging belly and stepped into the ultrasound room for my final pregnancy check-up.
However, before I could even get through the door, two bodyguards rushed over and violently dragged me out.
In a second, I was already in a cold operating room.
At the same time, Ethan, the third target set by the system for me to win his heart, walked into the operating room with a stern face.
"Layla can't wait any longer. I need your bone marrow today to save her." Ethan's words were like a knife, stabbing into my chest.
Layla was his dream lover and my sister.
I said, "I'm already ten months pregnant and will give birth soon. Can't you wait for the sake of my child?"
Ethan glared at me. "Bitch, you're trying to kill Layla, aren't you? If it weren't for you, she wouldn't have had leukemia! You owe her!"
Protecting my belly, I took a step back and wanted to run away.
However, Ethan's bodyguards immediately stopped me.
They pressed me on the operating table.
Ethan took a few steps closer, stretched out his hand and gripped my neck with a fierce face. "Leave your bone marrow here, and I can let you go."
"Ethan, I'm pregnant with your child!" I desperately implored him with tears.
Ethan remained indifferent and increased the strength in his hands that almost made me suffocate.
"My child? Are you talking about the bastard in your belly? You and I both know how this bastard came about."
Ethan had always doubted that the baby in my belly was his. Layla and I were kidnapped at the same time before, and after I was rescued, I was pregnant. That was why he always suspected I was pregnant with someone else's child.
"Can you please believe me? He is really your child. If you extract my bone marrow now, he will most likely die." I begged him desperately.
"If he can't survive without your bone marrow, it just proves that he doesn't deserve to be born into this world." Then, he released me. I slipped and fell to the ground.
"Can you wait for only a week? The due date of birth is next week. Just wait for me another week." Kneeling on the ground, I reached out to grab Ethan's trousers.
However, my supplication didn't arouse his sympathy but irritated him. He slapped me again.
"You clearly knew Layla's life couldn't last for a week, yet you asked me to wait a week so you could show off at her funeral, right? How could you be so vicious?" he said.
I covered my burning face and felt blood rushing into my mouth. My belly also began to cramp: the little guy inside started to struggle.
"Ethan, just this once. I'll beg you. Can you arrange an operation for me and take the baby out now? I'll donate my bone marrow to her right after I give birth to my child!"
He just looked down at me and kicked me in disgust.
"What kind of conspiracy is this? You want to buy time for yourself. Why are you so disgusting?"
As soon as Ethan finished speaking, another person approached this operating room.
Hank walked in and said, "Why are you still dawdling? Hurry up and tie her to the operating table."
Chapter 2
Hank's words threw me into the abyss of despair.
"Hank, I'm your sister!"
I sobbed, trying to win even the slightest sympathy from him.
He glanced at me, who was slumped on the ground with a red and swollen face.
"Don't call me that. I only have one sister. Her name is Layla." Ignoring my pleas, he directed the bodyguards to carry me onto the operating table. "Hurry up and tie her hands up. Don't let her struggle."
Looking at my brother's cold eyes, I wondered when things between us had come to this point.
Due to an aircraft accident, I was taken to this world by the system, and it promised me that if I could win all the targets' hearts, it would send me back to the world I truly belonged to.
In this world, I was the adopted daughter of the Peterson family. My parents in this world adopted me after their biological daughter Layla went missing.
After she went missing, the entire Peterson family was plunged into gloom.
My appearance brought new energy to this family.
Hank, who was also the target set by the system, cared for me to the utmost. If anyone dared to bully me, he would definitely retaliate double.
As his favorability towards me increased little by little and reached ninety-nine percent, Layla came back.
At first, Hank was afraid that I would feel unfair and always told me that the whole family would still love me. However, this so-called love turned into hatred.
When I was having class, he would suddenly rush into the classroom and kick me to the ground.
"Why did you associate with your classmates to isolate Layla? The Peterson family gives you everything. How can you be so ungrateful to us and take everything that belongs to Layla in the first place?"
I fell to the ground, looking at Layla in confusion and fear as she was held in Hank's arms. Then, she sneered at me.
From then on, my living nightmare began.
Someone would put thumbtacks on my stool, and I got seriously hurt.
My milk was replaced with paint. I almost ended up in the ICU.
My clothes were always wet as anyone who passed by could spit at me.
All of these devil deeds were tacitly approved by Hank, the king of our school.
And his favorability towards me also dropped to 0.1 percent.
Later, I met Ethan and thought he was the salvation of my life.
He would hold me carefully in his arms and gently wiped away the tears from the corners of my eyes.
He would also wait for three hours in the heavy snow to see me, ending up being sent to the emergency room and almost dying because of hypothermia.
This person who was so nice to me, however, lost his composure the first time he met Layla. He grabbed her bracelet and asked, "Are you Layla?"
Then, Ethan excitedly hugged her in his arms.
On that day, his favorability towards me dropped from 99 percent to 0.1 percent in an instant.
"Dr. Peterson, should we give her anesthesia?"
A reminder from Hank's assistant brought my thoughts back to reality, and I looked at Hank.
He glanced at me with disdain and disgust.
"We don't need to. I just want her to remember this piercing pain so that she can't afford to sully Layla, the purest girl in the world."
I looked at the needle that was almost 1.5 mm in diameter and felt a chill down my spine. I tried to struggle, but my hands and feet were tied.
"Hank, can you please let me go? I'm about to give birth. Can you give me a little more time?"
Hearing my beg, Hank suddenly glared at me. "Child? You mean the bastard in your belly? You are so shameless. This bastard will only dishonor our family."
After saying this, he sped up the preparations at hand.
Just then, an urgent voice came from the door of the operating room.
"Is it not done yet? It's just a bone marrow extraction. Why does it take so long? Layla can't afford to wait any longer."
Chapter 3
My first targets, my parents, pushed the door of the operating room and rushed in.
They glanced at me strapped to the operating table and said, "Layla can't wait any longer. Hurry up and draw her bone marrow!"
Hank immediately put on the medical gloves and nodded to them.
"Have you signed the consent form for the surgery? Complete those procedures so that no one will find out it's illicit medical practice."
My parents proudly raised the consent form for surgery in their hands. "It was signed early in the morning. We also asked Ethan to sign one."
Ethan handed his copy of the consent form for my surgery to Hank with a cold face.
After taking a look, Hank nodded with satisfaction.
The people whom I once loved the most were planning how to take my bone marrow in a fair and honest way just for the sake of the one they loved. I just found it pathetic and ridiculous.
Soon, the substantial despair even made me laugh.
"Mom, Dad, you promised to protect me forever," I said.
Hearing this, my mother, Sally Anderson, refuted me, "Shut up. You're not worthy of being our daughter! If Layla hadn't been lost, would we have given you the opportunity to enjoy the love that originally belonged to her? You have stolen her life for more than a decade. Now, it's time for you to compensate her."
My dad, Frank Peterson, also agreed. "If it weren't for you, Layla wouldn't have been lost, and we wouldn't have lost her for so many years. You're a liar. Donating your bone marrow to Layla is the only way you can atone for your crime."
Looking at my parents with distorted faces, I felt so languished.
The scene of me curled up in their arms seemed like it was just yesterday, but today, I had become a thorn in the eyes of all of them.
My parents thought that I deliberately kidnapped Layla and came to the Peterson family just to replace her. No matter how I explained, they wouldn't believe me.
Ever since Layla came back, they cut off all my living expenses. I ate leftovers from the kitchen trash can every day and had to do part-time jobs for at least half of the day to afford the tuition for college.
But they were afraid that Layla, who only got into a diploma mill, would feel unbalanced, so they deliberately tampered with my application. In the end, I could only go to a community university.
Even so, I had never resented them. I always thought that there was a family bond between us, and they would be moved by me some day.
But I was terribly wrong.
As my parents' favorability for me dropped to the bottom, a tear fell from the corner of my eye.
"Mom, Dad, I don't regret being your daughter," I said.
Sally sneered at my confession.
She said, "We regret adopting you. Adopting you is the most shameful thing I have ever done in my life. We have already submitted the application to cancel the adoption, and you will be removed from our household register soon."
Hearing that, I was hit by despair.
Before I could say anything, Ethan threw a divorce agreement in my face.
"I have already signed the divorce agreement. I will marry Layla when she gets better. As for you, don't even think about taking a penny from me. Get out of my family with the bastard in your belly," he said.
The continuous critical hits left me in complete hopelessness. My belly felt more and more uncomfortable. The little guy in my womb seemed to sense the threats and kept hitting my belly, trying to rush out. He was asking me for help.
"I can sign whatever you want me to sign. I just want you to let me give birth to the child before extracting the bone marrow, okay? This is a living life." The pain in my belly almost suffocated me, and I kept begging them to show me some mercy.
"Humph, do you think we are discussing this with you? We are informing you. Everyone, help me hold her down and turn her over. I am going to extract her bone marrow." As Hank uttered these cold words, my parents and Ethan immediately suppressed me.
They turned me over like meat on a chopping board, leaving me with no dignity at all.
When the long needle in Hank's hand pierced into my spine, I almost fainted.
I just felt dizzy and my belly kept tightening. Gradually, my baby stopped struggling.
System: [Warning, warning. Your fetus just died in the womb. Mission failed. You can choose to change the task.]
At this moment, I lost the last glimmer of hope. As I intended to reach out and refused the system's offer, my hand couldn't move at all.
I thought it would be nice if I could just die like this.
"The bone marrow has been extracted. I will take it to Layla right now. You guys keep an eye on her first and don't let her move." Hank took my bone marrow and ran out of the operating room in ecstasy.
Suddenly, I felt a surge of heat gushing from my vagina.
"Blood. There is a lot of blood!" Ethan suddenly shouted to Hank, but he didn't even turn his head.
Hank said, "Temporary bleeding is normal."
But the blood kept flowing out of my body, and soon, the entire operating table was flooded.
System: [Congratulations to you. Your mission has been successfully transformed to accumulate the regret points of the targets. The time limit will be eight hours.]
My soul was instantly ripped out of my body and slowly floated up.
The entire floor of the operating room was stained red with my blood. Ethan realized that something was wrong and shook me frantically.
"Olivia, wake up, don't fall asleep. Aren't you unwilling to divorce? I can promise you that you will give birth to your child first, and we can talk about the rest later. You better wake up," he said.
