Chapter 1
On Christmas, the company handed out bonus envelopes, and I drew a 24-hour overtime voucher.
Meanwhile, the boss took the female workers and my wife to a yacht party to celebrate.
So, I calmly lit the Christmas tree and burned the company down.
In my previous life, I worked overtime until I was completely exhausted. With a sharp pain in my chest, I called the boss to ask for leave.
His tone was cold. “Everyone accepted their Christmas gift. Only you didn’t.
“Get lost, then. You’re fired. Just a nobody at the bottom of society, anyway!”
Through the phone, I heard my wife’s heavy breathing, one wave after another.
“Thomas, ever since I got married, I’ve never had a good life. Today is truly amazing!”
“Hahaha, Samantha, you’re really pitiful, married to such a poor loser.”
Mocking laughter filled my ears. Rage consumed me, and I died at my desk.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on Christmas Day.
“Thomas, are you an idiot? Didn’t you hear the boss’ order?”
My wife, Samantha Johnson, shot me a sharp glare and splashed coffee straight onto my face.
“Why are you spacing out during work? Don’t you want your job? Your full attendance bonus for this month is gone.”
Thomas Clark, our boss, glared viciously at me, then immediately turned around with a smiling face.
“Ahem, let me say a few words.
“Happy Christmas, everyone. Aside from a very small number of troublemakers, everyone has done a great job this year.
“So, I’ve prepared a small gift.”
As he spoke, Thomas pulled a large stack of cash envelopes from his pocket and shot me a provocative glance.
The familiar scene appeared before me again.
I calmly wiped the coffee off my face and instantly understood that I had transmigrated.
In my previous life, I constantly worked overtime for the company. Samantha, however, followed Thomas to a yacht party, ranting on about how big the moon looked over the sea.
I was so consumed by anger that I died from it.
After my death, my parents went to the company to demand compensation. However, Samantha rushed to the front to handle the company’s public relations.
She said my parents were worse than animals and accused them of forcing me to work overtime for money. She even claimed that they had abused her after our marriage.
Thomas spoke righteously, saying the company had arranged days off for Christmas. Apparently, I had shamelessly insisted on working overtime, thinking there would be triple pay on Christmas.
How can the company be blamed for a death from overtime?
My coworkers were bribed by Thomas, and all stood up to accuse me.
They said I was the one determined to work overtime. The company had never forced anyone.
I deserved to die, and my parents were just making trouble for compensation money.
Public opinion spread overwhelmingly. Unable to endure the online attacks, my parents jumped to their deaths.
As for Samantha, she knowingly became the other woman!
“Thank you, Mr. Clark! Following you means good rewards!”
Samantha walked up to him with a flattering smile and casually took off her coat.
Her Christmas outfit was revealed to everyone.
Thomas stared at her tight skirt, his eyes lighting up, and he swallowed hard.
“Of course. If you followed your husband, you probably wouldn’t even have enough to get by.”
The coworkers immediately echoed in praise.
“Wow, so beautiful.”
“Hehe, you’re so charming. I’m a girl, and I can’t even take my eyes off you.”
Thomas’ gaze never left Samantha, eyeing her without restraint. Not only did Samantha feel no shame, but she even twisted her waist, showing off her best side.
However, her eyes were full of resentment.
“What’s the use of that? Look at the hard life I’ve lived after getting married. I’m so worn out.”
“Ever since I ended up with this useless man, I’ve never even hoped for a high-quality life.
“And when we go shopping, he’s stingy. It’s really embarrassing.”
I’d given her everything these three years during our marriage, yet she had never once dressed like this in front of me.
Chapter 2
Back when Samantha and I joined the company together, she had chased after me relentlessly.
She said I was talented and handsome.
After we got married, I poured my heart into caring for her in every possible way.
Not only did I hand over all my salary, but I even took on side jobs to help support the household.
However, what I got in return was Samantha cheating without restraint.
At home, she wrapped herself up tight.
But at the office, she dressed flashily, frequently going in and out of Thomas’ office. Sometimes she stayed inside for an entire day.
Now, she couldn’t wait for me to bring up divorce just to be able to cling to Thomas.
Even if it meant being the other woman, she was willing.
I glanced at her outfit, dressed like some club hostess, and smiled.
Since she enjoyed the player lifestyle so much, I’ll make sure she experiences what it feels like to be worse off than dead and completely disgraced.
“It’s not that pretty, really. It’s only because it’s Christmas, and Thomas asked me to liven the mood.
“Even my husband has never had the benefit of seeing me like this.”
As she spoke, she looked at me with interest.
My coworkers’ gazes stuck to me, clearly enjoying the spectacle.
I remained expressionless. Whether anger or shouting, those were reactions of the weak.
Did they still think I was the same man from my previous life, who only knew how to give without expecting anything in return?
“Alright, it was just a joke, but someone actually got upset.
“Don’t cry. Crying on Christmas would ruin the mood.”
Thomas said, already stuffing a cash envelope into Samantha’s hand.
“Wow, a fifty-thousand bonus! Mr. Clark really loves you!”
Looking at her bonus, Samantha threw herself into his arms, hugging him for a long time before reluctantly letting go.
Once she saw I showed no reaction, she said unhappily, “Honey, I was just too excited from winning. Don’t take it to heart.”
“Okay,” I nodded.
She was like a worn-out shoe, anyway. Whoever wants it can have it.
“Reed, you’re the only one freeloading here. Go bring in the Christmas tree from the entrance.
“I had that custom-made in Oregon. Be careful when you carry it. It’s more valuable than your life.”
I said nothing and walked downstairs.
When I saw the Christmas tree, I paused, thoughtful, then made a call.
“A yacht? That sounds like so much fun. Mr. Clark, I’ve never been on one before. Can you take me with you?”
Samantha looked charming as she crouched between Thomas’ legs, pleading softly.
“I want to go too, Mr. Clark. You can’t just take care of Samantha. We deserve some attention, too.”
Inside the office, Thomas attracted the female employees like honey draws bees.
When he saw me come in, he shifted forward slightly and waved his hand.
“Of course. This is a Christmas reward for all of you.”
“Dancing on a yacht helps you relax completely. And the night view at sea makes for perfect selfies.”
When our eyes met, his were full of disgust.
“You’re the only one who hasn’t drawn a cash envelope yet. Hurry up. Stop dragging your feet and delaying our Christmas.”
I curled my lips into a faint smile. There were still quite a few envelopes left in Thomas’ hand, but they were probably all overtime vouchers.
“I’ll take this one.”
I reached out, took one, and slipped it into my pocket.
Thomas’ expression immediately darkened, displeased.
“This is a Christmas gift. Open it now. Even the women here understand basic manners better than you.
“I really don’t understand how we ended up hiring trash like you.”
After opening it, the words “24-Hour Overtime Voucher” came into view.
It was exactly the same as my previous life.
“How interesting. Trash has such bad luck even when drawing.
“Did you walk under a ladder or something?”
Chapter 3
Everyone burst into laughter, piling onto Thomas' mockery.
“Mr. Clark, maybe he should pray devoutly before drawing again.”
“I feel even worse for Samantha now, having such a useless husband. If it were me, I’d divorce him immediately.”
Samantha’s eyes were full of expectation, as if she couldn’t wait for me to say those two words and head straight to the courthouse.
Of course, after a divorce, the assets would be split in half. She had probably been thinking about that for a long time.
The atmosphere turned awkward for a moment. Seeing how out of place I was, Thomas spoke coldly.
“Reed, you’ve worked hard. Since it’s the holidays, act like it. Just stay and work overtime.”
“But Samantha’s coming out with us tonight. You understand, right?
“And if you don’t, what can you even do?”
Samantha rolled her eyes at me, full of irritation.
“This poor loser doesn’t even know what a yacht is. I’m definitely going with Mr. Clark today to experience it properly.”
I agreed calmly. “Don’t worry. I’ve got things covered at the company.”
Thomas let out a laugh, pulling women into his arms on both sides.
Samantha eagerly squeezed in as well, grabbing the center spot.
“Wait.”
Looking at their departing backs, I called out.
Thomas turned around with a twisted expression and cursed, “What’s your problem, you useless piece of trash?
“Don’t want to work overtime? Want to go home and visit your mother’s grave?”
I suppressed the anger in my chest and smiled faintly.
“Mr. Clark, if I get tired, can I go home and rest?”
“Rest? Do you deserve that?”
Thomas looked down at me and sneered.
“Have you ever heard of trash getting rest? Unless the company catches fire, you’re not going anywhere. Get back to work.
“If you don’t agree with the company rules, I’ll fire you right now.”
“Bang!”
The door slammed shut, leaving me alone in the room.
A fire in the company?
I closed my eyes to rest for a moment, then took out my phone.
“Mr. Clark, I’ve finished all the work. I’m the only one left in the company now. Can I lock up and leave?”
Before the other side could respond, I hung up immediately.
Not long after, my phone rang.
Thomas' wife, Maya, exploded in my ear, furious. “Why are you the only one at the company? Where is Thomas?!”
“You little b*st*rd, say something! Are you mute?!”
I pretended to tremble.
“Oh, it’s you, ma’am. Mr. Clark is working overtime. I’ll hang up now.”
“You’ve got some nerve hanging up on me! Where is Thomas? Put him on the phone!”
I stayed silent as Maya screamed herself hoarse on the other end.
“You son of a b*tch, how dare you play tricks on me? Do you not want to live anymore?!”
I spoke weakly, “I… I heard he went out with female colleagues…”
She became even more hysterical.
“That damn b*st*rd! Where are they? Go find him for me right now, or you’re fired!”
“P-please don’t. Thomas said I’m not allowed to leave unless the company is on fire. I really can’t do anything.”
“Then set the company on fire and go find him right now!”
Maya’s sharp yelling pierced my ears.
My expression remained calm. Since she had given the order, I had no choice but to obey.
“Mom, has Samantha gone back to your place?
“It’s been five hours since she got off work. She’s not answering her phone. Could something have happened?”
I called Nancy, my mother-in-law, sounding worried.
“S-Samantha… she… she…”
She stammered, not knowing how to respond.
Instead, my father-in-law, Michael, stepped in.
“Reed, Samantha just called us. She said she went out with her close friends. Don’t worry.”
Like father, like daughter.
I smiled coldly. “Alright, I was overthinking then.
“It’s just that there have been rumors lately about a murderer. Samantha is so beautiful. If something happened…
“But it’s fine as long as she’s okay. I won’t disturb you two any further.”
“Wait… Reed, maybe I mis—”
“Beep, beep, beep.” I hung up.
Then I picked up the coat Samantha had left on the ground.
“Christmas without fire—how could that be joyful?”
After setting up the company’s Christmas tree, I took out a lighter.
The show was about to begin!
