Chapter 2
I really did not expect that such a careful and low-profile man would go on a reality show for his first love.
At that moment, Liam walked in and interrupted my thoughts.
He started to blame me.
“You’re too pampered.
“You won’t die from a mango allergy. Ivy has just returned to the country, so why are you upsetting her?”
As he talked to me, Liam’s gaze stayed fixed on his phone.
He was typing and smiling from time to time with sparkling eyes.
Some memories came to me at that moment.
On our first anniversary, Liam bought a mango cake.
I did not want to waste his effort, so I took a small bite.
In the end, I fell unconscious from an allergic reaction.
When I woke up, he was crying like a baby. His trembling arms were wrapped tight around me.
“Olivia, I won’t let you get close to anything that contains mango. I won’t let you suffer pain like that ever again!”
I came back to my senses. I opened my purse and looked for the medical report.
“I miscarried.”
It was then that he looked at me.
He sounded irritated.
“It’s only a glass of Whisky. Your jealousy knows no bounds. Why are you joking about our child’s life?”
It turned out that when I was in excruciating pain and deep despair last night, he thought that I was acting out of jealousy.
I looked down and passed him the miscarriage medical report.
“Our child is really gone.
“Our relationship should end here too.”
I did not even dare to say the words ‘break up’.
Five years ago, my parents’ company went bankrupt.
In order to pay the debt, I accepted Liam’s financial support and became his mistress.
I lived with him for five years and even got pregnant, but he did not want to marry me or make me his girlfriend.
Liam stared at the report in disbelief.
After a while, he looked at my flat tummy and pulled me into his embrace.
He sounded guilty.
“Don’t be sad. Once you recover, I’ll make you pregnant again.”
He looked lovingly at me as he gently patted my back.
It was as if we were as close as our past selves.
However, I could not ignore the smell of Ivy’s perfume that lingered on him.
I felt nauseated and pushed him away.
“Mr. White, I’m serious.”
Liam heard me address him formally, and his expression immediately fell.
“Nonsense! Do you still think you’re the same rich girl you were in the past? How could you live without me?”
He was right. I was no longer the rich girl who got doted on.
However, I remembered how he used to kiss my neck and stare at me with loving eyes.
He had made promises to me over and over again.
“Olivia, even if you’re no longer rich, you’re still the most precious princess in my heart.”
I clenched my fist as my lips trembled. I could not even utter a word.
Liam finally realized that he had crossed the line. He looked a bit flustered.
“Don’t take this the wrong way. Nothing’s going on between Ivy and me. I won’t abandon you.”
He immediately pulled out his phone.
“I was wrong for what I did at the banquet. I’ll immediately unblock you, and I’ll never block you again.”
He then took out a delicate gift box from his pants pocket.
It was a sparkling diamond ring.
I was stunned.
I would always glance at rings when we shopped or passed by jewelry stores.
He would always pull me away heartlessly and say scornfully, “Olivia, I already treat you very well. You should be grateful.”
He implied that I was just a plaything to him.
He would dote on me, but I would not be the one he married.
However, my body turned rigid when I looked at the ring.
He forcefully pulled my hand over and slid the ring onto my middle finger.
Liam suddenly smiled smugly.
“Look, Olivia. I said that you’ll never be able to leave me.”
Before I could speak, my phone started to ring.
It was a call from Ivy.
“Olivia, Liam doesn’t have good taste at all!
“He ordered a diamond ring worth ten million dollars, but the huge diamond on top looks so tacky…
“I think the free gift worth a thousand dollars that you have looks better!”
It turned out that the ring I had was a free gift.
Ivy’s intentions were very obvious.
I did not utter a word in response. I simply ended the call.
Chapter 3
I put down my phone and began looking for my passport and travel documents.
I did not know when Liam appeared behind me.
“Why are you holding your passport?”
I felt my hand tremble, but I lied nonchalantly.
“I’m accompanying you on your overseas business trip next month, so I’m checking to make sure that I have everything I need.”
I would always follow Liam on his overseas trips.
However, it seemed like he had something to say regarding that. He was hesitating.
“Next month… Ivy will be going with me.”
Upon seeing my cold expression, he immediately continued, saying, “But next month I’ll send you on a vacation. Let’s both take some time to calm down.”
No wonder he suddenly wanted to send me away.
It turned out that he was afraid I would interrupt his time with Ivy.
In the past, I would have made a huge fuss. I would have forced him to say that he loved me.
However, this time, I only nodded and slid the passport into my bag.
It was then that Liam realized that something was wrong.
“Don’t you always have a photo of us in your bag? Why is it gone?”
It was because our relationship was about to end.
There was no longer any reason to keep that photo with me at all times.
However, I did not answer him. I just changed the topic seamlessly.
“I’m going to rest. Do you need anything else?”
It was only then that he recalled the reason he was looking for me.
“Where’s the honey water on the table?”
Liam had gastritis. The doctor had advised him to have more honey.
I would make him honey water in a glass once every hour.
I would also make sure that the honey water he drank was always warm.
It was very tedious, but I did that for five years.
I simply answered, “I’ve just been discharged from the hospital, and I don’t feel well.”
That was true.
Maybe it was because I only got a day’s rest at the hospital after the miscarriage, and coming home had only put me in a bad mood.
My stomach was aching.
When he noticed my pale complexion, Liam started to panic.
He carried me to the bed.
“Why are you throwing a tantrum when you didn’t protect our child?
“Never mind. I’ll take care of you tonight.”
At that moment, I heard a phone ring.
I glanced over at Liam’s phone screen instinctively and saw the caller ID.
[Darling Ivy]
He answered the call, and I could immediately hear Ivy’s sobs.
“Liam, my hand is injured. Can you come and visit me…
“I’m too stupid, I don’t even know how to make an appointment at the hospital.”
Liam did not answer her immediately. He stared at me as he hesitated.
I clutched my lower abdomen tightly as cold sweat beaded on my forehead.
I forced myself to say, “Just go.”
He looked conflicted, but he finally made a decision.
“Sorry, Olivia, Ivy has just returned to the country. I’m worried about her.
“I’ll get you a doctor, and I’ll return soon.”
After a few seconds, I heard the loud slam of the door.
I curled up and felt a numbness spread through my heart.
It was not the first time he abandoned me because of Ivy. I had already gotten used to it.
After a while, the family doctor appeared.
He looked disgusted with me. However, due to Liam’s instructions, he had no choice but to examine me.
“You’ve been with Mr. White for five years, but he’s not willing to acknowledge you as his partner. Are you that dumb to believe what a man says when you’re in bed with him?
“With the amount of debt the Reid family has, you don’t even deserve a place next to Mr. White!
“Ms. Anderson is the ideal partner for Mr. White. If you have some dignity left, pack up your stuff and get lost.”
The doctor was not willing to stay for even a second longer. He put down the medication and left.
The wealth gap between Liam and me was too huge.
Everyone around him despised me.
However, I was his favorite mistress.
Without Ivy’s hints and Liam’s silent consent, a doctor would not dare to say that to me.
I quietly ate the medicine, and the pain slowly dissipated.
Then, I took out my cell phone and thanked the doctor.
However, I ended up seeing a post Ivy had just made on her social media profile.
[Your love is sweeter than strawberry-patterned band-aids.]
In the photo, there was a cute Band-Aid on Ivy’s finger.
Liam was kissing her finger, and he looked so loving.
I suddenly recalled the first year I celebrated Liam’s birthday with him.
I had never been in a kitchen before. However, in order to make him happy, I had personally made a feast.
My hands were red and swollen from handling hot oil.
Chapter 4
However, Liam only took a few bites disinterestedly. He did not even spend the night.
I did not understand why until I overheard his conversation with his friend.
“I like Olivia because she’s pretty and tame. It’s like teasing a kitten.
“But today her hands are covered in blisters, and that really turns me off!”
Suddenly, Liam gave me a call.
He instructed, “It’s the first time Ivy is following me overseas. She doesn’t know much, so I need you to prepare some materials for her.”
Immediately after, I heard Ivy’s sugary sweet voice.
“Even though I don’t know much about anything, Liam still likes me.
“Olivia, I’m quite impatient. Please prepare the materials by tonight.”
Liam stopped her.
“Olivia’s not feeling well. Don’t give her such a tight deadline…”
“Alright.” I immediately agreed to it.
Five years ago, I was forced to make a living by working at Paradise Restaurant as a waitress.
If it were not for Liam, who had spent a lot on me, I probably would not have been able to escape from those filthy rich old men.
After preparing the materials, I no longer owed him anything.
I slowly got out of bed, ignored my discomfort, and started to work on my laptop.
I pulled an all-nighter and finally completed Liam’s request.
In the morning, I went to White Corporation with the documents.
The receptionist knew my relationship with Liam. In the past, she would welcome me warmly.
However, she seemed nervous this time as she stopped me.
“Ms. Reid, Mr. White is not around. I’ll bring you to the lounge first.”
On the way, I heard the employees’ whispers.
“Mr. White doesn’t want Ms. Anderson to suffer from walking in heels, so he carried her from the car to his office. So romantic!”
The receptionist looked a little awkward. She wanted to say something to explain.
However, she did not say anything after noticing that I seemed unaffected.
After a while, Liam called me and asked me to send the materials to his office.
I opened the door to Ivy sitting on Liam’s lap. They were staring lovingly at each other.
Ivy smiled as she took the documents. Then she picked up a bowl of stew.
“Thanks for the help, Olivia. Come, have a taste. Liam made this stew for me.”
I stared at Liam in surprise.
We had lived together for five years. In all that time, I did not know he knew how to cook. I was learning that he could through Ivy.
I reached out to take the bowl.
Ivy let go prematurely, and the bowl fell onto the floor.
The hot stew splattered onto my calf, and I gasped in pain.
“Liam, Olivia must hate me! That must be why she burned me on purpose. Please don’t be angry at her…”
She started crying pitifully.
Liam immediately hugged her and examined her closely.
When he was certain that only her shoes were dirty, he stared at me with cold eyes.
“Olivia, quickly apologize to Ivy. Wipe her shoes clean as well!”
I ignored him and took a few pieces of tissue to wipe the burnt areas on my calf.
Liam was impatient. He grabbed my arm.
“This is how you treat your benefactor? I take care of you financially, so you must listen to me!”
He was very strong. As I was injured, I could not free myself from his grip.
I could only stumble out of the office as he dragged me.
He only stopped once we were at the top of the stairs. Then, he suddenly let me go.
I had yet to regain my balance, so I fell backwards and tumbled down the stairs.
I felt a sharp pain in my ankle, and it swelled up immediately.
Liam stared down at me.
“Olivia, this is what you get for defying me.”
After he said that, he left without hesitation.
I sat on the floor and endured the strange gazes around me. I did not have the strength to stand up.
After a long while, the receptionist brought me a wheelchair.
“Ms. Reid, just now, Ms. Anderson was in a bad mood. Mr. White has brought her to the countryside to relax. Let’s get you up first.”
She helped me into the wheelchair.
At the same time, my reminder to leave the country started to ring.
I switched off the reminder and read the text message that Liam sent.
[I doted on you too much over these years. Now, you’re acting so entitled.
[I’ve already blocked you. I’ll only unblock you once you realize what you’ve done.]
I did not care about that. There would be no future between us.
I took out my SIM card and put a new one in.
Then, I wheeled myself out. I got a taxi and went to the airport. I was ready to leave the country.
