Chapter 5
From that day on, Leon no longer urged Wilhelmina to help Tessa take care of her pregnancy.
Wilhelmina knelt on the cushion, gently twisting the silver needle between her fingertips and accurately piercing the knee acupoint of Sophie.
"Grandma, I still have three times left to give you treatment before I leave."
The old woman looked down at her, tears welling up in her gloomy eyes.
"Wilhelm, really ... can't you try it again?"
Wilhelmina's fingertips slightly paused, then she steadily withdrew the needle.
"Grandma, you know, sometimes we can't force our own will."
Sophie let out a long sigh and with trembling skinny hands, she took off a star-shaped diamond necklace from her neck and stuffed it into Wilhelmina's palm.
"Then our family owes you."
The diamond necklace was so beautiful and shining. It was a wedding gifts she had worn for decades.
Wilhelmina shook her head, trying to refuse, but Sophie held her hand tightly.
"Here's for you."
Sophie's voice choked up.
"I have seen everything you have done for the Pietersons over the years."
"Leon, that bastard, was so blinded by that cunning girl that he even admitted his savior was wrong!"
Sophie was so disappointed and angry that she trembled all over as she mentioned the cunning girl whom seduced her grandson.
"She pretended to go to Grenada to recuperating and studying medicine, but ended up indulging in debauchery in Mysthaven."
"And she still has the face to say she saved Leon? Huh!"
"Grandma, Tessa is pregnant."
The tea cup in the old woman's hand slammed onto the table and the hot water splashed onto her sleeves, but she was completely unaware.
"What!"
Wilhelmina lowered her eyes and repeated her words to her more clearly.
Sophie immediately stood up and hit the ground with her crutch. "I don't know where her wild seed came from, but she dared to come to the Pietersons~"
Before she could finish her words, the courtyard door was suddenly pushed open.
Leon came, holding his sweetheart in his arms. Her face turned pale and she staggered back, holding her belly.
With his eyes were as cold as ice, he grabbed Wilhelmina's wrist with such force that he almost crushed her bones.
"No wonder it's been so quiet these days ...." He sneered, his voice was very low, but every word was as sharp as a knife. "So you were waiting here?"
Wilhelmina gave him a deathly silence glance.
She should have known that in his eyes, she would always be that "vicious" girl.
Seeing his grandson's rude attitude, Sophie got angry and hit the ground with his crutch heavily. "Leon! Watch your attitude!"
Tessa took the opportunity to throw herself into the man's arms and cried even more miserably. "I really didn't lie to you, Leon ... The child is really yours ...."
Wilhelmina smirked as soon as she heard her words.
She said slowly, "Leon, you believe her, but not me?"
Leon frowned even more tightly and spoke coldly, "Wilhelmina, when did you become so mean?"
Mean?
Her fingertips trembled slightly.
Is she mean?
What about Tessa deliberately showing off the gift he gave her in front of her?
What about Tessa secretly tearing up her prescription and throwing away her medicinal materials?
What did it matter if Tessa kept provoking and pretending to be pitiful to gain sympathy?
The old woman couldn't hold back her emotions any longer. She hit her grandson with her crutch and shouted. "Get out! Get out with your wild seed!"
The crutch hit his shoulder several times before falling to the floor.
Tessa shrank in fear, but Leon suddenly pulled Wilhelmina in front of him, his voice very low, but his words were like knives. "Now are you satisfied?"
Wilhelmina looked up at him, her eyes full of desolation.
What was she satisfied with?
Satisfied that he spoke ill of her for Tessa?
Satisfied that he assumed she was sowing discord without even checking?
Satisfied with him ... never trusting her once from beginning to end?
Chapter 6
Wilhelmina stood outside the auction venue, her fingertips gently caressing the check in the compartment of the medicine box.
This was the money she collected by selling all her jewelry. It was just enough to buy the last piece of Blood Marrow Ganoderma Lucidum and complete the last acupuncture for the one and only person she cared about in the Pieterson Family, Sophie.
The venue was magnificent, but she couldn't even get a car from the Pieterson Family, so she could only come on foot in the rain to get there. The hem of her skirt was soaked by the rain and stuck to her calves, cold and piercing to the bone.
"Ms. Clinton?" The waiter hesitated and stopped her. "Your invitation letter ...."
She was about to explain when a sharp brake sound suddenly came from behind her.
A Maybach stopped steadily in front of the gate, then the driver, got off the car, ran around and opened a black umbrella. Tessa took Leon’s arm and got off the car, with a floral yellow skirt sweeping over Wilhelmina's wet shoe tips.
"Oh, isn't this Wilhelmina?" She pretended to be surprised. "Why are you so drenched? Leon, you didn't even provide a car for her?"
Leon frowned and glanced at his so-called fiancee, then said coldly to the waiter, "She is with me."
How ironic that she, his fiancée, had to rely on his "charity" to enter.
The first item to be auctioned was the Hundred-Year-Old Blood Marrow Ganoderma Lucidum. Just as Wilhelmina was about to raise her placard, Leon had already pressed the button to light the lamp.
The whole room was in an uproar!
"Congratulations, Mr. Pieterson!" The host excitedly dropped the gavel and announced. "The three Blood Marrow Ganoderma Lucidum are now the property of this young lady!"
Tessa covered her mouth in surprise. "Leon, this is too precious ...."
He gave a faint smile and said, "Didn't you say you've been suffering from insomnia lately? Grind it to powder and make it a tea!"
Wilhelmina clenched her fists until her nails dug into her palms.
Once the Blood Marrow Ganoderma was ground into powder, its medicinal effect was completely lost. The old woman waited for seven years for treatment, but it was wasted just by treating it as a soothing tea.
For the next items to be auctioned, as long as Tessa said she likes them, he would light his lamp up.
When Wilhelmina left empty-handed, the rainstorm got even heavier.
She stood under the eaves, watching Leon carefully escort Tessa into the car. While the three blood-marrow Ganoderma were casually thrown on the back seat, not caring about them getting wet in the rain.
He closed the car door and, as he turned around, he caught a glimpse of Wilhelmina standing in the rain.
She was soaked, her long hair stuck to her pale cheeks, but her eyes were terrifyingly calm.
He paused and eventually walked towards her.
"Get in the car!"
His voice was cold and heavy, but the umbrella tilted a bit towards her.
Wilhelmina didn't move, but slowly raised her hand and pointed at the three Ganoderma Lucidum in the back seat of the car.
"Grandma's medicine."
He frowned and responded, "We don't lack these few medicines at home."
She shook her head and the rain rolled down her eyelashes.
"Once the Blood Marrow Ganoderma is exposed to rain, its medicinal effect will be completely lost."
"Your grandma has waited for seven years and only one acupuncture treatment is left."
Leon hesitated for a moment, the car window lowered and Tessa's sweet voice came through.
"Leon, hurry up and get in the car, I feel so dizzy."
His hesitation was instantly shattered.
"Let's go back first."
In the end, she was forcefully pushed into the back seat by him.
The heater in the car was on high, but it couldn't dispel the chill in her bones.
Tessa sat in the passenger seat and looked at Wilhelmina's disheveled appearance in the rearview mirror, pretending to be concerned.
"Wilhelmina, if you want Ganoderma Lucidum, I'll ask Leon to give you one."
She turned her head to look at the man and blinked her innocent eyes, saying, "Anyway, Grandma has a misunderstanding of me, so just consider it as my apology?"
He furrowed his brow and said, "Tessa is so sensible."
Wilhelmina suddenly raised her head and tightly clenched her hands.
"She doesn't understand at all! Three Blood Marrow Ganoderma must be used together. If one is missing, all the previous efforts will be wasted!"
Leon met her red eyes in the rearview mirror and felt inexplicably irritated.
"Wilhelmina, don't push yourself too far."
His voice was cold. "Tessa is willing to give it to you because of me."
Tessa took the opportunity to add fuel into his anger. "Wilhelmina, do you ... really not like me?"
He held his sweetheart's hand. "Just ignore her!"
Seeing this, Tessa suddenly exclaimed. "Oh! Why is the Ganoderma Lucidum rotten?"
She picked up the Ganoderma Lucidum that was softened by the rain in the back seat and said with regret, "It's all my fault for not putting it properly ...."
Leon glanced at them and said casually, "Throw it away!"
"No."
Wilhelmina rushed over to grab it, but Leon grabbed her wrist.
"Wilhelmina!"
He snapped. "Don't go crazy in the car!"
Tessa took the opportunity to throw the Ganoderma Lucidum out of the window and the mud and water instantly swallowed up the three precious medicinal herbs.
Wilhelmina froze in place, the rain streaming down the car window looked just like her tears.
Leon looked at her lifeless gaze in the rearview mirror and suddenly felt a sharp pain in his heart, but Tessa's sobbing quickly caught his attention.
"Leon, did I do something wrong?"
He retracted his gaze and stepped on the accelerator.
"It's okay, she lied to you."
"Grandma is not sick."
Chapter 7
Wilhelmina sat on the cushion in Sophie's room.
"Grandma, there are only two more times left before you can go."
Sophie looked down at her, tears welling up in her gloomy eyes.
"Wilhelm, you must go to the dinner party tonight."
"I don't want to go anymore, Grandma."
"As long as I'm still alive, you'll still be Leon's fiancée."
Sophie's voice choked up.
"If you don't go, won't you let that cunning girl to humiliate the Pietersons?"
Speaking of Tessa, the old woman was so angry that she trembled all over.
Wilhelmina looked at the furious expression on her face and finally couldn't bear to disappoint her, so she nodded slightly.
"Okay, I'll go."
Wilhelmina returned to the guest room and when she opened the door, the room was silent.
The dressing table was empty, without any prepared dresses or matching jewelry boxes.
Back then, on such occasions, Leon would always order someone to deliver the latest haute couture items of the season and even carefully select the matching jewelry.
Nowadays, he was too lazy to even do such trivial things.
Wilhelmina stood in front of the wardrobe, her fingertips gently brushing across a row of plain dresses.
In the end, she chose an old-style dress in moon-white color.
It was the one she brought herself when she first came to the Pieterson Family, the material wasn't really expensive, but it was better because it was well-tailored.
She took out the star-shaped diamond necklace Sophie gave her from the bottom of the jewelry box.
She walked into the venue alone. Her plain dress was out of place among the gorgeous outfit in the venue. She only wore the diamond necklace around her neck.
Tessa held Leon's arm, her eyes fell on the diamond necklace and she gritted her teeth in jealousy.
"Wilhelmina, why are you wearing so plain dress?" She raised her voice to catch anyone attention. "Didn't Leon prepare a dress for you?"
He stared at Wilhelmina, frowning.
He clearly asked the butler to prepare a haute couture dress and matching jewelry from the latest season, so why didn't she wear it?
She was deliberately embarrassing him. It made him very unhappy.
Tessa was wearing a floral yellow dress with a slightly bulging belly. She had a smug on her face as she walked onto the stage holding his arm.
"Thank you to all the guests for taking your precious time and witnessing this evening."
Leon's voice was low and clear. "My engagement to Wilhelmina is officially terminated today."
The whole room was in an uproar.
Wilhelmina stood still, calmly facing the sighs and various gazes around her, but she didn't feel any pain.
Meanwhile, Leon unconsciously glanced to see her reaction, but he couldn't find any sadness or concern on her face.
Tessa keenly noticed that her man's eyes were always on Wilhelmina. She immediately held his arm tightly and her eyes instantly turned red.
"Leon ...." She cried, her voice trembling. "Are you lying to me? You actually like Wilhelmina, don't you? Shouldn't I come back?"
He retracted his gaze and lowered his head to comfort the girl beside him. "Don't let your imagination run wild. I've always liked you."
"In the past three years, I've been thinking about you all the time. Wilhelmina stayed in the Pietersons' house was only because of grandma's coercion. I don't have any feelings for her."
She felt a pain in her heart like being stabbed by a knife.
Even though she had long been numb, these words coming out of his mouth still hurt her deeply.
Seeing her was about to leave, Tessa immediately let go of Leon's hand and took a few steps forward to stop her.
"Wilhelmina, don't leave in such a hurry."
Her eyes fell on the star-shaped necklace on Wilhelmina's neck and a hint of jealousy flashed in her eyes.
She turned her head to look at Leon and said in an aggrieved voice, "Leon, didn't you say your family inheritance would be given to someone important?"
Leon furrowed his brow as he stared at Wilhelmina and Tessa.
Finally, he said in a cold voice, "Wilhelmina, give the diamond necklace to Tessa."
Wilhelmina's fingertips gently stroked the diamond necklace around her neck, which inexplicably reminded her of that snowy night three years ago.
At that time, she had just been neglected by Leon and lived alone in the side yard of the Pieterson Family's old house. Sophie stepped on the snow to see her with her crutch.
"Leon, that bastard, doesn't know how to cherish you, but I recognize you and will always recognize you."
Now, Tessa was pointing at her diamond necklace and crying in grievance. "Leon, I am your fiancée now, but why did you pass on your family heirloom to her?"
Leon frowned at Wilhelmina, his voice cold. "Take it off!"
However, she didn't want to give it to Tessa.
Not because she was attached to the Pieterson Family, but because it was the last thing the grandmother gave her.
In the past three years, every time she was ignored by Leon and humiliated by Tessa, Sophie would secretly send someone to take her to her room, cook her a calming soup, pat her on the back of her hand.
She said, "Wilhelm, bear with it a little longer. Grandma is here. Leon will eventually understand your feelings."
Now, Sophie's legs had not healed yet and she was still waiting for her last acupuncture tomorrow in her room.
How could she give up the old woman's kindness to Tessa?
"Wilhelmina." Leon's voice grew even colder. "You're no longer my fiancee. You're not qualified to wear anything belonged to the Pietersons."
Again and again, his words were like a knife, stabbing into Wilhelmina's heart.
"Not qualified?"
She had devoted three years to the Pieterson Family, broke her leg while collecting herbs in the rain for Sophie and shed three drops of her heart's blood for Leon's poisoning ....
Now, he was going to wipe out everything with a simple "not qualified" sentence.
Wilhelmina raised her head and stared calmly at him, asking, "Leon, are you sure you want this?"
Leon was startled by her calm expression, but then he said coldly, "Take it off, don't make me say it for the third time!"
Wilhelmina slowly raised her hand and touched the knot of the Diamond necklace with her fingertips, gently taking it.
