Chapter 1

While I was in hospital, my sister married the man I loved in what should have been my wedding dress.

My sister's wedding was about to start when I died. My family called me to come home for it.

They asked me to be my sister's maid of honour at the wedding.

My mother, called me several times but couldn't get through. She yelled at me for being ungrateful.

My brother, Rowan, also called, but couldn't get through.

“What the hell is wrong with Vivian? Why isn't she answering the phone? Doesn't she know this is Jocelyn's last wedding? Jocelyn is dying, what is she doing?” he said with disgust.

Even Dad, who was usually silent, said, “If Vivian doesn't show up at the wedding today, then I will remove her from the family. It's really outrageous.”

A shy girl walked over. She was pretty and gentle.

She frowned and asked, 'Is my sister still refusing to come to my wedding? I know that I stole Houston from her, I stole her wedding, so she is angry and unwilling to come. But I already have terminal lung cancer, I just want to have a wedding with the man I love, after I die, Houston will go back to her.”

She was crying. She covered her chest and coughed. She looked weak and sickly.

Rowan helped her and the parents also came over.

The door opened and a tall, handsome man walked in. His custom-made suit made him look strong. He looked indifferent, but when he saw Jocelyn, his expression softened.

Houston held Jocelyn in his arms and patted his back.

'Don't get upset, it will make your condition worse,' he said.

Jocelyn was happy but sad. She looked at Houston and said, 'It's my fault. Vivian doesn't want to be my bridesmaid because she thinks I stole you from her. I want her blessing. I'm dying and I don't know if I can see her one last time.'

As soon as she finished speaking, she started to cry.

As she said that, people in the room resented me even more.

Houston frowned, but looked tender when he looked at Jocelyn.

He comforted Jocelyn and said, 'It's fine, our wedding will still go on and I will give you the most beautiful wedding.' She's irrelevant. Don't get angry. It's bad for you.

Jocelyn buried her head in Houston's arms.

She won. Houston, my mum, dad and brother all love her.

I floated in the air and saw how much they loved Jocelyn but disliked me.

I died when my mother called me, but my soul went to Jocelyn's wedding.

Jocelyn was in the wedding dress I was supposed to wear, and Houston was in the suit I had made for him. I felt ridiculous.

My boyfriend married Jocelyn in the suit I chose, and Jocelyn married my boyfriend in my wedding dress. They are both linked to me, but this wedding bride is not me. It's a joke.

Houston left the room after comforting Jocelyn. The first thing he did was call me, but he couldn't get through. He tried to message me again.

'Come to the wedding. Jocelyn has lung cancer. Give her a break.'

The message made me feel even more ridiculous.

I got lung cancer! I got sick and died.

Six months ago, I was diagnosed with early-stage lung cancer. The doctor said I could still be cured if I was treated in time. When I got home, my dad, brother, mum and Jocelyn were sitting on the sofa without saying anything. I thought they knew something.

I thought they were trying to comfort me, but I suddenly saw my mum hugging Jocelyn and crying, and inside her mouth she said, 'My poor Jocelyn, so young to get cancer, what can we do?'

Jocelyn hugged Mrs.Rowan and said, 'Mum, if I die, Vivian will take care of you.' 'Right, sis?”'

Everyone noticed me in the foyer.

I showed them my medical report. It said I had early-stage lung cancer. My mother slapped me.

She hit me hard, knocking my face to the side.

She growled at me, 'You heartless creature, . Your sister has cancer and so do you. Why do you compare yourself to her?'

Dad and Rowan didn't stop mum. They just looked at me with cold eyes, as if I was just a girl who loved to lie and do stupid things to get attention.

Jocelyn hugged Mrs.Rowan. She cried, 'Mum, don't be like this. Vivian didn't do it on purpose. She just wants us to pay more attention to her.'

She looked at me as if she was mocking a loser.

I couldn't control the tears flowing down my face.

My mind went blank.

‘What did I pretend?’ I said, my voice shaking.

'If you don't want me, why did you have me in the first place? You said you couldn't afford to raise me in the countryside, so why did you bring me back? Jocelyn wears designer clothes. I can only wear cheap clothes. She has a driver to take her to school. I have to walk. She can go to the hospital when she is sick. I have to get through it by myself. Why? Is it possible that I'm not your biological child?’ I shouted it all out.

My mum, Jocelyn and dad were all shocked by my outburst.

Rowan didn't expect me to be so emotional. He didn't know I was sick or that I walked to school. it took half an hour to walk to the gate of the community, let alone walk to school. Wouldn't that mean getting up before dawn?

He felt guilty.

He saw my tears and picked up the medical report on the table.

He looked at it, laughed, stood up and threw the report in front of me. His voice was cold.

'Early stage lung cancer, look carefully, your medical report says gastritis. Next time you lie, can you find a real report.'

I was shocked. How could the doctor lie to me? I looked at the medical report again. The last word was 'inflammation of the stomach'. I looked at Jocelyn's face. She smiled. She was setting me up.

Mum looked mocking as she said, 'We really don't want to raise you, because our family doesn't have a child who loves to lie like you. You don't deserve to be our daughter at all.'

Mr.Rowan was also scornful, with a stern look on his face.

I looked at my relatives in the room and felt their pain was worse than mine.

Jocelyn stood out as a good person. She said, 'I know you have a grudge against me, but we are sisters. I won't blame you if you admit a mistake. Anyway, I'll die and never see you again.' She cried again.

Mum saw her crying and comforted her, 'Jocelyn, don't worry, we'll get you the best doctor and you'll be fine. "You won't die. But those lying bastards will." Mum turned to me with a disgusted face and told me to leave.

My heart was numb with pain, but I was saddened by my mum's words.

I left the house with tears in my eyes. When I passed Jocelyn, I saw a smile on her face. It was the smile of triumph.

Three months later, Houston told me Jocelyn was going to marry him because her cancer was terminal. She wanted to have a wedding with the man she loved, but my fiancé was the man she loved but couldn't have.

Houston said he had to repay Jocelyn for saving his life when they were child.

I had no money for cancer treatment. I also wanted to break up with Houston because I was dying and he was happy with Jocelyn.

But when he was engaged, his grandma chose me as his fiancée because she liked me a lot.

Chapter 2

I didn't show up even after the wedding. Mum, dad and brother came home. They sat on the sofa and talked about Jocelyn's wedding. They were happy.

Suddenly, Mrs.Rowan said, “Today, Mrs. William, the wife of the chairman of Prosper Group, asked me why Vivian didn't attend her sister's wedding. It made me so embarrassed. She really let me down. After all these years…”

I watched their faces change. I felt pain in my heart. People can still feel pain even when they're dead!

The phone rang. My brother picked up.

On the phone was a gentle female voice. She asked, 'Hello, may I ask if this is the residence of Vivian?'

Rowan was surprised to hear my name on the phone. He hadn't heard from me for six months. It was as if he hadn't seen me since I came back and said I had cancer.

'Hello, is this Vivian's family?' The person on the phone repeated, Rowan came back to his senses and answered yes.

'She died yesterday at noon in our hospital. She had advanced cancer. Her body is in the morgue. The family can come and claim it for cremation.'

Rowan felt a sudden pain in his heart. But when he thought of the medical report, he felt angry. 'If she's dead, then she's dead. You can just find a funeral parlour to burn it, and then just scatter her ashes.!'

He hung up. Mum and Mr.Rowan heard the noise and when they heard I was dead, they looked disdainful.

Mum said with a laugh, 'Vivian's dead? How is that possible? They say that a bad penny always turns up. If she could die, I would immediately set off fireworks to celebrate. Our family finally got rid of this curse.'

After she scolded me, she remembered her eldest daughter who had cancer, and she cried. 'Why did it have to be Jocelyn who got cancer? She's such a wonderful girl.'

She spoke sincerely, and Mr.Rowan's face darkened, and he felt even more resentful towards me.

'Jocelyn will be cured. The Houston‘s family has contacted the best doctors from abroad.' Dad comforted Mum.

Rowan nodded too.

I looked at their anxious faces and thought, 'If I die, will you be happy? If I die, won't you care at all?'

Mr.Rowan said again, 'When Jocelyn comes back for her return visit after the wedding, if Vivian still doesn't show up, I will announce to the public that our family will only have Jocelyn as our daughter from now on. Vivian will no longer be our daughter.' His tone was firm.

I floated in mid-air, thinking bitterly, your family was only supposed to have one daughter now. I'm already dead.

Chapter 3

Jocelyn returned to our parents' house three days later, and my family still hadn't been able to contact me.

The hospital called several times during this period. I had only written Rowan's and Houston's phone numbers on the emergency contacts.

Rowan hung up after answering a few times. As for Houston's phone, Jocelyn was the one who answered.

The call from the hospital came through on their first night of marriage.

Houston was in the bathroom showering. Jocelyn picked up the phone and said, 'He's not family, stop calling and harassing my husband.' Then she hung up and turned off the phone.

Houston came out of the bathroom with only a towel on. Water droplets slid down his sculpted muscles and disappeared beneath the edge of the towel, making him look even more attractive.

Houston looked at Jocelyn, who was wearing a black nightgown, and asked who the call was from.

'No one, it's a nuisance call. I have already helped you to block it,' Jocelyn said.

'Houston, honey, you look so handsome.' She blushed and finished the sentence.

Houston felt a rush of heat and his heart beat faster.

Seeing his reaction, Jocelyn clearly sensed his desire. She stepped forward, her curves pressing against him. Her soft, delicate hands reached for his waist, slowly caressing him, feeling the changes in his body.

Houston, looking at the alluring flower before him, couldn't help but react, but suddenly, another person flashed through his mind—Vivian.

He and I said marrying Jocelyn was just compensation. His final destination was still her.

Houston pulled Jocelyn's hand and pulled her away.

Jocelyn was close to success, but Houston pulled her away. She kept cursing me. Dead or not, she still wants to steal a man from her.

'Houston, do you like me?' 'Am I not beautiful?' Jocelyn was already beautiful. This cry was pitiful.

Houston's heart ached for a moment, then he pulled Jocelyn into his arms and comforted her.

Jocelyn saw there was still a play and continued, 'I want to give myself to you before I die.' She touched the man's body teasingly.

Houston listened to Jocelyn's words and was pleased. She teased him and he was close to losing control. They slept together. I feel disgusted. Both are scum and a bitch. They are a perfect match. I don't feel sorry for Houston.

The reason why I liked Houston was simply that there were not many people who were nice to me, and Houston was one of them.

My parents took me back to the city from the countryside because I was going to high school.

At home, Jocelyn believed that I was back to compete for the love of our parents and Rowan, so she either framed me or slandered me. Mom, Dad, and Rowan always favored her and didn't care about me at all. My status at home was even lower than that of the maid. At least the maid had a room, but mine was just a utility room.

Moreover, because of Jocelyn's framing, my parents stopped giving me an allowance. I couldn't even afford to eat at school, so I had to take a part-time job.

At school, I wore the same clothes for years because my family couldn't afford new ones. This made me an easy target for bullies.

Jocelyn also bullied me from time to time. She was one year older than me and had the prestige of a senior, and her identity as the daughter of Prosper Group was known to all.

High school students can be bad guys too. Some classmates helped Jocelyn to bully me. Houston is in the same grade as Jocelyn. He is the president of the student union and can play basketball. Many girls like him.

I had my period when I had a falling out with my parents. I didn't have any pocket money and was always hungry at school. This led to malnutrition and my period was always inaccurate. This was in gym class. I only realised when my classmates pointed at me and said, "Your trousers are stained with blood."

I was so ashamed I ran back to the classroom to get a tampon. On my way, I ran into the bullies who often picked on me to please Jocelyn.

They pulled me down and blocked me in the corner, insulting me.

This was the darkest moment of my life. Houston appeared and gave me warmth. He chased them away and gave me his clothes.

I was happy when I found out that my fiancé was Houston. Who wouldn't want to marry the man of their choice?

But Houston was unhappy when he found out I was his fiancée. He thought his grandmother had forced him into it. But he couldn't resist. Our families had been family friends for generations, his grandma and my grandma were best friends, and the two families had a lot of business dealings.

I'm dating Houston. His friends say I'm just his girlfriend, but I don't care. I love him and I love losing myself.

I felt ridiculous looking at the man and woman in bed. It was a joke.

I don't know why I stayed in this world as a soul. Why I had to watch their naked disgust for me and their happiness? Why not let me go when I die?
