Chapter 3

Since Kevin's heart was with someone else, those presents should belong to the person he loved the most. I was about to cut up the suit I had given Kevin as a present with a pair of scissors when he suddenly came home. He came looking for me in the bedroom, and I answered him without stopping the cutting.

Kevin walked toward the closet, and he almost dropped the takeaway in his hand when he saw what I was doing. "Honey…" He came over to me quickly and crouched to grab my wrist. "What are you doing…"

I tilted my head at him as his face turned pale while looking at me in disbelief. I smiled and gently pushed his hand away. "Three stray kittens came wandering into the garden today, and I wanted to use this piece of clothing to make them a nest."

Kevin's lips tightened, and it took him a while to finally say, "But honey, this suit is the only present you've ever given me. I don't wear it often because it's too precious to me."

I lowered my eyes as I continued cutting up the suit. I knew that it was the only present I had given him, and I was cutting it up on purpose. Kevin kept watching as I cut, and he finally said, "Evie, I want a new present from you now that you've cut up the only present you've given me."

That was when I finally looked up at him. I smiled and agreed. "Alright. I did prepare two presents for you."

Kevin's eyes brightened as he pulled me gently into his arms. "Did you really get me new presents, honey? Where are they?" His excited voice only chilled me to the bones.

I did not push him away, but looked past him to see the takeaway box. It smelled delicious, and I knew he had brought me seafood chowder. As my body had always been weak, he would buy me seafood chowder only when he upset me, or if he felt guilty about something.

Kevin would take the time to drive through half the city just to get me my favorite seafood chowder, and the appearance of this dish proved that he must have had a lot of fun with Kandi tonight, which guilted him enough to go out of the way in the middle of the night to buy me that chowder.

I laughed self-depracatingly and said softly, "You'll get your presents after a week."

Kevin stopped bugging me about the presents and led me to the dining room. He plated the seafood chowder in a bowl, and his eyes were slightly shifty when he served it up to me. "You haven't had anything to eat tonight, Evie. You must be ravishing. Have some supper."

I picked up the spoon to gently stir the chowder, but the moment he turned to get a glass of water, I tipped the bowl over. Kevin was startled and quickly came over to check if I had hurt myself. I watched him coldly, and Kevin looked up to meet the distant look in my eyes.

He quickly pulled back and blinked as he looked at me. "It's alright, Evie. I can get it for you tomorrow for breakfast if you'd like." I could feel him trembling, and if this was before, I would never bear to see him acting so cautiously around me. I would have held him in my arms and whispered sweet nothings to him.

However, all I did now was stand up coolly. "It's fine. I've recently gone through a change of appetite. I don't like seafood chowder anymore." And I did not like Kevin anymore, either.

Kevin had no idea what had happened to me, but he quickly noticed my change. This prompted him to stay by my side the next few days.

Graham Corporation had just started being stable for six months, and I had seen how difficult it was for Kevin to achieve what he has today. It was also the reason why he had been spending less and less time with me. I was supportive of him and understood his situation.

If this were before, I would have been overjoyed to see him push all of his work aside just to spend time with me, but now, it was giving me a headache just to see him by my side all the time.

Kandi's special ringtone kept ringing and ringing, but he ignored it and did not seem like he wanted to leave my side.

Chapter 4

I still had not gotten my hands on the signed divorce papers, and it was getting closer to the date I was supposed to leave the country. I had no choice but to use the method I detested most of all. I put on sexy lingerie and took a suggestive picture of Kevin and me.

After taking numerous provocative pictures, I sent them all to Kandi, which worked like a charm, because Kevin's phone started ringing right away. He wanted to hang up, but I pressed his hand down and picked up the call for him. Kevin jerked his head up to look at me. "Evie…"

I said to him earnestly, "You should pick up the call, what if it's an emergency?"

Kevin put the speaker on silent mode and looked at me like he wanted to say something, but when he saw how calm I was, he finally said, "Let me take this call, Evie, and I'll come back to accompany you in a while."

I picked up a bag of chips from the table and started crunching away while listening to what was happening with Kevin. I could vaguely hear Kandi crying while Kevin tried to soothe her. When the call was finally over, Kevin came to me, looking hesitant.

I immediately said with great understanding, "You should go if you're busy. You don't need to accompany me."

Kevin let out a long sigh while still gripping his phone. "Please don't be mad, Evie, but the company has only just started doing well…"

I stopped him and said softly, "I know. Just go."

Kevin did not say anything much when I encouraged him to leave. Before he walked out the door, he said solemnly to me, "Give me one week to take care of things, Evie. After that, we'll go on a one-week vacation to Mountain City, where you've always wanted to go."

When I was young, and my parents were still alive, they brought me on a long vacation in Mountain City, which was why I always had a soft spot for it. When Kevin and I got together, I was constantly talking about going to Mountain City for a short trip, but he rejected the idea because of work.

Yet, I had seen Kandi's social media account posting pictures of Kevin taking her for a trip to Mountain City. Moreover, Kandi would be three months pregnant in a week. Once the baby was stable, Kevin would finally have time to take me on a trip. However, I no longer wanted to go anywhere with him.

I lowered my eyes and smiled, but I nodded in the end. After Kevin left, Kandi taunted me with another text.

[It doesn't matter how slutty you are, Kevin would still choose me in the end.]

I did not deny it.

While Kevin was still on his way to see Kandi, I decided to negotiate with her.

[Haven't you always wanted to be Mrs. Graham? Do something for me and I'll make your wish come true.]

Kandi was more than happy to oblige. She was worried I would go back on my word, so she immediately sent me intimate pictures of Kevin and her the moment he arrived at her place. I saved every one of those pictures.

When it was about 11:00 pm, Kevin came home drunk. He held me in his arms the moment he got home and apologized to me as he nuzzled me. I cajoled him patiently despite seeing his body covered with hickies.

"You're such a wonderful person, honey. All I want is to pluck the stars down from the sky and give them to you."

My eyes brightened as I knew this was the perfect time. I grabbed the divorce papers and cajoled him into signing them. Kevin put down his pen as he tried to read the papers. "What's this, honey?"

I took the papers from him and smiled while lying, "It's a check! Didn't you say you wanted to give me the stars?"
