Chapter 1
A gorgeous new lawyer named Charlotte Lowell joins our law firm and claims she has been reborn.
One day, a publicly listed company offers us a massive ten-million-dollar case. Charlotte warns our boss, Levi Howard, that the company has major issues.
If we accept the case, we'll lose in court and be hit with a huge payout.
Levi isn't sure if she's bluffing, but in the end, he listens and passes.
The next day, that very company collapses. And the rival firm that took the case is hit with a compensation claim worth tens of millions of dollars.
To celebrate dodging the bullet, Levi asks me to book a restaurant.
But Charlotte immediately tells him not to go to that restaurant because that place is about to have a gas explosion.
Hours later, the restaurant blows up just as she mentioned. News of it hits the trending list.
After those two incidents, Levi is all-in on believing Charlotte's claim of having been reborn.
In order to keep Charlotte, he gives her the executive position that was initially promised to me.
When I hand in my resignation, Charlotte urges Levi to stop me.
"If Yelena jumps to another firm, she'll use the resources she gained here to crush us. A year from now, we won't even have a firm left."
Upon hearing Charlotte's words, my boyfriend and colleague, Finley Smith, steps forward to back her up.
"Charlotte's right. I saw a job offer from Vera Legal in Yelena's email. She's really petty. If she joins Vera Legal, we'll surely face her revenge."
Levi believes them and rejects my resignation.
I file for labor arbitration, but it's no use. In the end, I'm demoted to a janitor at the firm.
Driven by resentment, I fall into depression and end up hanging myself at the entrance of the firm.
When I open my eyes again, I've gone back to the day Charlotte claims she has been reborn.
"Don't sign the deal! That company's shady!"
In the law firm's conference room, my boss, Levi Howard, was just about to close a multi-million-dollar deal with a publicly listed company.
That was when the stunning lawyer, Charlotte Lowell, burst in and stopped Levi.
Levi jumped at the sudden interruption. "Charlotte, what are you talking about? This is a ten-million-dollar deal!"
They were lucky to land even one deal like this in an entire year.
But Charlotte stood her ground, calm and confident.
"Mr. Howard, this company's been cooking the books. They're going to crash soon. If we take this case, we won't just lose. We'll end up bankrupt!"
Levi froze. "W-Where did you even hear that?"
The company representative's expression shifted. He tried to keep his cool but couldn't hide the guilt in his voice. "That's complete nonsense. We didn't do anything that's against the law!"
Charlotte looked even more confident now.
"I didn't hear it from anyone. I know because I've been reborn. Your company deliberately quoted us an outrageous legal fee because you want us to lose the case and cover your breach of contract!"
Her words hit like a thunderclap. The representative went pale.
Levi didn't know whether to believe her, but he decided to delay the signing just in case.
The very next day, the company fell apart.
Countless media outlets rushed to report the story, exposing layers of financial fraud until the company finally declared bankruptcy.
Charlotte became the star of the firm overnight. Even Levi started looking at her differently.
That was when it finally hit me that I really had been reborn.
I had come back to the very day Charlotte claimed she had come back from a past life.
In my past life, Charlotte had done the same. She predicted there was a problem with the multi-million-dollar contract, saved the firm from a massive loss, and left everyone stunned.
After that, Levi asked me to book a restaurant for a team dinner to celebrate dodging the bullet.
But then Charlotte told Levi not to go to that restaurant because there was going to be a gas explosion.
And she was right. Just a few hours later, news of the restaurant's explosion was all over social media.
After those two close calls, Levi was completely sold on Charlotte's reborn story.
To keep her on the team, he gave her the executive role he had initially promised me.
When I tried to resign, Charlotte asked Levi to stop me.
"If Yelena jumps ship to another firm, it won't even take a year before she uses the resources she gained here to crush us. When that happens, our entire firm will fall apart."
After hearing what Charlotte said, my boyfriend and colleague, Finley Smith, jumped in to back her up.
"Charlotte's right. I saw the offer letter from Vera Legal in Yelena's inbox. She's a petty person. If she ends up at Vera Legal, our firm is definitely in for her revenge."
Levi believed them without question and shut down my resignation.
I tried going through labor arbitration, but it didn't help. In the end, I was reduced to a janitor at the firm.
Consumed by resentment, I fell into depression and ended up hanging myself at the entrance of the firm.
But somehow, I was reborn on the very day Charlotte claimed she had been reborn.
This time, I wouldn't let the tragedy of my past life happen again.
Chapter 2
While my thoughts were still spinning, Levi asked me to book a restaurant for the celebration just like before.
I hesitated for a second, then gave the same answer I had in my past life. "Okay, we could go back to that same family restaurant—"
"No!"
Sure enough, before I could even finish, Charlotte cut in loudly, "That place is going to have a gas explosion tonight. People will die. If we go, we're walking straight into a death trap."
Everyone froze. The room fell silent for a beat as people exchanged unsure glances.
"How's that even possible? How could a perfectly fine restaurant have a gas explosion?"
"Yeah, it's got top safety ratings, and they do regular fire inspections. Charlotte, are you sure you're not just stressed out and imagining things?"
"Rebirth? Seriously? That's too far-fetched. Nobody actually gets reborn."
Charlotte stood there, smug and unbothered by the murmurs around her.
"If you don't believe me, go ahead and have dinner there. But I'll make this clear. If there is an explosion and someone gets hurt, don't say I didn't warn you."
Just like before, she sounded so sure of herself.
Her confident tone left everyone speechless. No one dared argue with her anymore. After all, who would risk their life to prove her wrong?
Finley, who had been quiet all this time, stepped forward.
"I don't think Charlotte would make something like this up. Let's skip the family restaurant tonight and go to that barbecue place downstairs instead."
Then, he turned to look at me. "What do you think, Yelena?"
As I looked at this disgusting, two-faced bastard, I sneered inwardly but kept a calm expression. "Sure. Sounds good."
I noticed the calculativeness in Charlotte's eyes and grew more certain that there was more to this than met the eye.
While everyone else headed downstairs, I slipped away for a moment and took the elevator next door. I called the restaurant anonymously and warned them to check their gas lines.
Then I called the fire department, reported a possible leak, and asked them to run a safety inspection.
About an hour later, the fire department got back to me. They had already checked everything and replaced some outdated parts. There was no risk of a fire anytime soon.
I let out a quiet sigh of relief and went back to enjoying barbecue at the restaurant downstairs.
At that moment, we heard sirens blaring outside. Four fire trucks raced past the front entrance, heading straight for the family restaurant.
Everyone froze. Finley was the first to react and took out his phone.
"Guys, check the news. There was a gas explosion at the family restaurant ten minutes ago. The whole first floor blew up with diners still inside! Charlotte was right again!"
I was stunned.
How was this possible?
I had warned the restaurant and called the fire department for an inspection. How did it still explode?
Was Charlotte really telling the truth? Was she really reborn?
Chapter 3
The table went completely silent. Everyone slowly turned to look at Charlotte. They were now fully convinced she really had been reborn.
Charlotte lowered her head with a heavy sigh. "You can't change fate. Some things are meant to happen. All we can do is accept it."
After saying that, she looked straight at me. "Yelena, I think you, of all people, should understand that."
Caught off guard, I met her eyes. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Charlotte shot Levi a deliberately troubled look. "I know you've been waiting for Mr. Howard to promote you to lead attorney. But unfortunately, he thinks I'm the better fit. I get that you're upset. But some things are just destined."
Levi, who was still in a daze from everything that had happened, blinked like he had just woken up.
It was obvious he had never even thought about the promotion until Charlotte brought it up. But after those two dead-on predictions, he had complete trust in Charlotte.
He quickly said, "Yeah, you're absolutely right, Charlotte. I was going to offer you the position."
Then he turned to me. "You heard her, Yelena. Some things are meant to happen. You can't change fate."
I sneered inwardly and looked up at Charlotte.
"Ms. Lowell, I don't think you're just after the lead attorney position. What you really want are the cases I handle, which make up nearly half of the firm's entire caseload, am I right?"
Charlotte's expression shifted. She hadn't expected me to hit the nail on the head.
She immediately shot back in protest, "That's ridiculous. I'm a reborn woman with bigger things on my mind than your pile of case files. I'm just telling you what's coming."
"Is that so?"
Smiling, I locked eyes with her.
"Next, are you going to predict that I'll switch firms because you stole my position?"
Charlotte's face paled instantly at those words. She instinctively glanced over at Finley. Her panic at being exposed was plain as day.
She quickly composed herself and looked at me again. "Seems like you're blurting out your plan first because you're feeling guilty. Well, since you've already spilled the beans, I won't keep it a secret anymore.
"Mr. Howard, Yelena's been planning to jump ship to our biggest rival, Vera Legal. And that's not all. She's going to use our firm's resources to crush us. By that time, our whole firm will go bankrupt, and we'll all be out on the street!"
"Are you serious?"
Levi's gaze instantly turned cold. His eyes narrowed at me with a sharp edge of suspicion.
Charlotte shot a glance at Finley, who immediately caught on and stepped forward to help her "prove" her point.
"Yelena, so that offer letter in your inbox was from Vera Legal? And here I thought it was just spam and didn't give it a second glance. Looks like you were planning to betray our firm all along!"
