Chapter 1

The typhoon was coming. Jimmy Baxter, my nephew, didn't wanna stay at home and insisted on going to the beach.

I was the only one who disagreed. Yet everyone else in the family doted on him and took him out.

No sooner had Jimmy gone into the sea than he was swept away by the waves.

I fought as hard as I could to bring him ashore, and then I got exhausted and was swept away by the waves.

Henry Baxter, my brother, Sheila Nelson, my sister-in-law, Alan Baxter, my dad, and Daphne Meyer, my mom, saw the whole thing, and then they actually turned around and left.

When I opened my eyes again, I decided to give up on them. They didn't deserve to be my family. At the same time, I discovered a shocking secret!

Jimmy was lying on the floor, twisting his body while making a scene.

"I wanna go to the beach. I don't wanna stay at home!"

He kicked the toy on the floor, and it hit my nose.

He laughed out loud. "Rhea, you're so stupid! I can't believe how slow your reactions are!"

I snapped back to my senses and found myself sitting on the sofa at home. Didn't I drown?

"I wanna go to the seaside. Take me there!"

Jimmy was still crying and howling, and his voice was almost hoarse.

Sheila didn't bear to see him sad. "Let's take Jimmy to the beach. It's not that windy anyway."

Mom leaned against the window and looked outside. "There are a lot of people outside. Seems the typhoon isn't that scary."

The weather forecast had long warned that the typhoon was about to land in our city, and citizens were advised not to go out. Everyone should stay at home.

In my previous life, Jimmy insisted on going to the beach, and I tried my best to persuade everyone not to go out. It was so dangerous outside, and who knew when the typhoon would land?

Sheila mocked me, "You're such a coward. Fine. Don't come with us if you're so scared."

Henry echoed, "Stay here if you don't wanna come with us. No one is forcing you."

Yet I tagged along since I was worried about them.

When we arrived at the beach, there was no one there. Even the snack and swimsuit shops on the beach were closed.

Only my family dared to come out on a typhoon day.

Jimmy immediately changed into swimming trunks and went to the sea to play. My parents wanted to pick up some shells, and Henry and Sheila wanted to browse their phones. They asked me to keep an eye on Jimmy.

The wind was getting stronger, and the sky was getting darker.

Seeing that, I hurriedly called out to Jimmy, asking him to go ashore.

However, he refused to listen to me at all and said that I was worried about nothing.

In the next second, there was a big wave, and he disappeared.

I quickly called for help. At the same time, I jumped into the sea to rescue him.

I tried my best, and finally, I sent him back to Henry. Yet I was beat and swept away by the waves.

I shouted for help, but my family was so focused on soothing Jimmy that they ignored my shouts.

Seeing that the weather was getting more and more scary, they left with Jimmy.

I died in the sea. My body floated to the depths of the sea and was eaten by fish.

Now that I was reborn, I only wanted to love myself.

Seeing that I was sitting on the sofa motionlessly, Mom tugged at me. "What are you waiting for? Change your clothes! We're about to head out!"

"I have a headache. It's windy outside, so I'm not going."

Sheila immediately said, "Might as well. If you tag along, there won't be enough seats in the car."

Seemed everyone was happy that I was not going. In fact, I was the happiest. They'd regret it soon.

In my previous life, I had given my all to them. Most of the money I made was used to subsidize my family, even the down payment on Henry's wedding house.

And what did I get? When I was dying, they walked away.

I'd rather not have such a family!

It'd take at least two hours to drive from my family's place to the seaside. They were already on the way.

I cooked myself some spaghetti. After eating, I lay on the bed and slept soundly.

When I woke up, I found that there were several missed calls from my parents.

I called Mom. "What's up, Mom?"

"What are you doing? I called you countless times!"

She shouted so loudly. I quickly took the phone away.

"I was sleeping. I didn't hear you calling."

"Jimmy was swept away by the waves! How could you still be sleeping?"

I pretended to be surprised. "What? Jimmy was swept away by the waves? How? What about you guys? Are you OK?"

Chapter 2

Mom said in a broken voice, "Yeah. We're OK. But Jimmy is missing! What should we do, Rhea? Think of something!"

I snorted inwardly. Lucky for you guys.

"Call the police! We need their help on this!"

Mom was so anxious. "We've already called the police. The typhoon suddenly made an early landfall. The wind was so strong outside that even the trees were uprooted. Cars can't be on the road at all! We're staying in a B&B by the sea, and we can't get out!"

"Mom, chill. Jimmy is lucky. He'll be fine."

Sheila snatched the phone away and said to me, "It's all your fault. Why didn't you come with us? If you had helped Henry, Jimmy wouldn't have been swept away!"

"Sheila, you didn't want me to go, did you? You said that there wouldn't be enough seats in the car if I tagged along. Right?"

Sheila was choked on my words. "I was just joking. You took it seriously?"

I sneered, "Sheila, if I'm right, you can swim, can't you? And so can Mom and Dad. There are four of you, and you can't even rescue Jimmy, a kid? And you're blaming me, even though I wasn't even there? You're so shameless!"

After that, I hung up the phone. I didn't bother to waste another second on her.

Although all four of them could swim, in my previous life, only Henry went into the sea to rescue Jimmy.

I didn't think anything would change this time. Sheila didn't wanna risk her life no matter what, and my parents were in poor health. That was why they all chose to watch on the shore.

It was almost impossible to rescue Jimmy on Henry's own.

The wind outside was getting stronger, and then it began to rain heavily.

The windows clanged in the wind. I was glad that I had stuck the glass at home with tape in advance.

We lived in the city center, surrounded by high-rise buildings, which provided a buffer against typhoons.

I wondered how they were doing now that they were staying in a self-built B&B by the sea.

I watched TV at home for a while. Just as I was wondering about what to eat for dinner, Mom called me again.

"Rhea, something big has happened! Alan and Henry have been blown away by the typhoon!"

"Aren't you in the B&B? How could they be blown away by the typhoon?"

"The wind was so strong outside that it blew the whole glass door off the balcony. Henry was sitting close to the balcony, and he was swept up in the typhoon right away! Alan also got blown away when he was trying to pull Henry!"

She was sobbing. "What should I do? I wanna die!"

I felt nothing. In fact, I wanted to laugh.

"Are you and Sheila all right?"

"We're hiding in the bathroom. We don't dare to go out. Her face was scratched by glass and is still bleeding!"

"Mom, calm down. Just hide there together with her. Don't come out until the typhoon is gone."

"But we can't stay in here forever! Who knows when the typhoon will go away? Besides, Alan and Henry are missing! Five of us came out, and now it's just me and Sheila. I'm desperate!"

She kept crying on the phone. I comforted her for a while and then hung up the phone.

They all knew that the typhoon was coming, but they still insisted on going to the seaside. They deserved it!

Served them right!

Soon, Sheila called me.

"Rhea, what are you doing?"

Her voice was trembling, and she sounded very tired.

"I'm eating. Have you eaten yet?"

She became furious at once. "You're eating? You're so heartless! Jimmy, Alan, and Henry are missing! How could you be eating?"

"So what if I'm eating? They're missing, and I'm supposed to starve to death?"

"You're so ungrateful. They're your family, OK? How could you act as if everything was fine?"

"Henry is your husband, and Jimmy is your son. Both of them are missing. And you're not seeking death, are you? You and I are the same. Don't point fingers at me."

She couldn't win me in an argument, so she complained to my mom.

"Mom! Did you hear what Rhea said? They're missing, and she's eating as if nothing has happened!"

Mom took the phone and scolded me.

I put my phone aside and listened to them cursing while continuing to eat.

When my mom was tired of scolding, I asked her, "Have you eaten yet, Mom?"

"What do you think? I can't even go out of the bathroom!"

"You'd better save your strength then. After all, you have to stay in there for a while longer."

After I hung up the phone, neither of them called again. Perhaps their phones died. Finally, I could have a moment of peace.

For three days, I didn't hear anything from Mom and Sheila. Then they came home.

As soon as Sheila entered the door, she pounced on me. "We are so miserable. It's so unfair that you're doing just fine!"

She attacked me first. Therefore, I fought back at once. I slapped her face twice hard and kicked her.

I knocked her to the ground. She was chubby and strong, but she had been very weak these days, so she was no match for me at all.

My mom helped her up at once. "We're family. How could you get physical?

"Rhea, don't be mad at her. She's not stable given what happened to Jimmy and Henry."

My mom was sensible enough to know that I was the only one she could rely on now.

No matter what, Sheila wasn't related to her by blood. On the contrary, I was.

Now that I was her only relative left, of course, she had to lean on me.

Seeing that my mom took my side, Sheila sat on the ground and cried miserably.

"I'm so unlucky! Henry, Jimmy, come back! I can't live without you!"

My mom cried, too. "I'm sure they're alive. We never saw their bodies, right?"

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. I opened the door and saw Lisa Steele, a good friend of mine.

"Rhea, where's Henry?"

"I told you on WhatsApp just now, didn't I? He and my dad got swept away by the typhoon."

Before Sheila and my mom came back, I was chatting with Lisa on WhatsApp, and I told her about what had happened to my family.

Lisa obviously didn't believe it. She ran inside and shouted, "Henry! Henry!"

Sheila got up from the floor. "Lisa, it's true. Henry was blown away by the typhoon, and we don't know where he is right now."

Only then did Lisa accept the reality, and she burst into tears.

My mom scolded me, "See? Lisa is so much sadder than you. It's like Henry is her brother. Exactly who's his sister? You or Lisa?"

Sheila echoed, "Indeed. Lisa isn't related to Henry by blood at all, but she's so sad upon hearing what happened to him. Yet you, Henry's sister, didn't cry at all. I don't think you're sad at all. You're so heartless!"

"Henry isn't dead, is he? I'll cry when we know for sure he's dead."

Chapter 3

"Stop talking nonsense! Henry won't die!"

When Sheila was about to scold me, Lisa beat her to it.

Lisa's eyes turned red as she glared at me. I was puzzled. When did she get so close to Henry?

Sheila hugged Lisa and said, "How I wish you were Henry's sister. You're so sweet. On the contrary, someone is so ungrateful!"

I rolled my eyes at Sheila. In the next second, my phone rang.

I picked it up. The person on the other end of the line said, "Hi there. This is Star Hospital. Are you a relative of Alan Baxter and Henry Baxter?"

"Yes."

"They're being rescued here. Please come here as soon as possible."

After hanging up the phone, I quickly said, "Dad and Henry are being rescued at Star Hospital. Let's go!"

Someone ran past me. It was Lisa.

She seemed to be more anxious than us.

My mom cried with joy, saying, "Thank God! God, please bless Alan and Henry!"

Sheila cried while sitting in the car. My mom and Lisa cried, too.

I figured that if I didn't cry as well, it'd seem that I was insensible, so I tried my best to shed a few drops of tears.

When we arrived at the hospital, Lisa was the first to rush into the emergency room. She ran faster than us.

When the three of us saw Henry in the emergency room, Lisa was already crying while leaning on him.

Outsiders would think Lisa was my sister-in-law.

My mom looked around but couldn't find my dad. She asked a nurse and learned that he didn't make it.

Her legs went weak, and she almost fell. I held her in time.

Henry was seriously injured, but fortunately, his life wasn't in danger.

He stayed in the hospital for half a month, and then he was discharged.

After a while, Sheila called me and asked me to meet her outside.

She had never asked me out alone before. She must have something to say to me.

It rained when I went out.

She called me and asked me to go to her place.

We didn't live far from each other, so it only took me a few minutes to get there.

When I arrived at her place, I found that she was the only one there.

"Where's Henry?"

"He's out."

She asked me to go into the bedroom, acting all mysterious.

"Let's talk inside. I don't want Henry to hear anything if he suddenly comes back."

"What is it?"

"I think there's something going on between Lisa and Henry. When he was hospitalized, she came to the hospital to take care of him every day. After he was discharged, she has come here every day. Tell me. Do you think that's normal?"

"No."

In fact, I could tell that Lisa had feelings for Henry. Every time we chatted, she was always talking about him.

Sheila and I talked to each other for a few minutes, and then we heard someone knock on the door.

She quickly shushed me, and I immediately shut up.

Henry's voice came from the living room. "Lisa, I'll divorce her as soon as I can. Give me some time."

"You always say that. How much longer will it take? I can wait, but my baby can't. Why didn't you fix her when you fixed Jimmy?"

Sheila and I exchanged a look, and both of us were shocked.

I couldn't understand. What was Henry talking about?

He let Jimmy die on purpose?

What he said next shocked me even more.
