Chapter 2
As soon as I said that, everyone except Chad looked shocked.
Seeing my confident expression, they looked at each other in confusion.
Chad looked at me contemptuously and viciously slapped me to the ground. "You imbecile. Fine, I'll explain it to you since I'm so kind! My wife said the mall symbolizes her sincerity towards me, the name doesn't mean anything!"
He spat on my face, grabbed my hair, and commanded his underlings, "Since he wouldn't serve me on his knees, let him lick my shoes! One lick, one million dollars!"
As soon as he said that, greed flashed in the eyes of the surrounding people, and they rushed forward in a craze.
"Keep Ms. Wardle's name out of your filthy mouth, you trash! "
They held my shoulders down, forced me to kneel in front of Chad, and pressed my head down hard.
"You should be grateful you get to lick Mr. Foreman's shoes. That's all you're good for."
Seeing me struggle desperately, one of the lackeys grabbed my chin and shoved Chad's shoe into my mouth.
Once, twice... My vision went black. Dizziness and pain washed over me.
A sour and earthy smell filled my senses, and I could not help but dry heave on the floor.
"You'll regret this!"
As soon as I said that, Chad slapped me again. "Isn't this your mall? Why isn't anyone helping you? Trash, you're just like a gigolo. You immediately want to pounce when you see a rich woman! "
My eyes swept over the mall's staff. There was obvious guilt on their faces, but they did not dare to speak up.
Bitter resentment spread in my heart. My father was right; Snow was not someone to be trusted.
Everything that happened today was the price I paid for my past decisions.
Seeing someone wanting to pounce on me again, I instinctively grabbed something.
I heard Chad scream in pain, and I was violently thrown to the floor.
Then, I saw a long bloody mark on his arm.
Chad was furious with my resistance and stomped my face.
"You little trash. How dare you hit me? Break his arms! Let's see how arrogant he is after that!"
I struggled desperately. Suddenly, I heard a familiar voice at the door.
"Stop! What’s going on?!"
A group of people in suits walked in in an orderly manner.
Someone in the crowd exclaimed, "That's the Wardle Group's logo! The executives are here!"
"The trash is done for. He dared to offend Mr. Foreman. Ms. Wardle has sent people here to protect her husband!"
The lackeys were even more proud, raising their heads like they were basking in glory.
Some even raised their phones, pointing them at my face.
I recognized the person in the lead. He was the legal counsel I personally selected to join the company.
Chad's face was full of arrogance and triumph.
I raised my eyebrows, my eyes filled with coldness. Since Chad dared to do this kind of thing to me, I did not mind making him lose face in public!
I struggled to get up. "This guy publicly beat and humiliated me. I don't need compensation. I want him to rot in prison..."
Before I could finish, I saw the group of people walk past me and approach Chad Foreman.
They said respectfully, "Mr. Foreman, we received word to come here because someone's damaging Ms. Wardle's reputation."
I was so confused. Weren't these people discussing company matters with me through text messages only a few days ago?
Why were they turning their backs on me?!
Chad smirked, looking at me with gloating eyes.
"It's him. Deal with him properly."
The surrounding lackeys mocked me without reservation.
"He's crazy. Did he say he wants Mr. Foreman to rot in prison? He should know his place!"
"Look at how arrogant he was earlier, now he's getting slapped in the face, haha!"
"Everyone knows Ms. Wardle loves her husband. Mr. Foreman is so lucky. He doesn't even have to deal with the gigolo himself, Ms. Wardle will do it for him!"
The lawyer, Mr. Harrington, walked up to me. I looked at him coldly. "Have you forgotten who promoted you?!"
A trace of guilt flashed in his eyes, but he still acted righteously.
"I'm sorry, sir, but you've damaged Ms. Wardle's reputation in public, and the compensation is at least two million dollars. This is the legal notice!"
I instantly understood.
Snow not only had a lover behind my back, she was even trying to strip away my power in the company.
That’s fine; it would save me the need to root out the betrayers in the company one by one.
I looked at him with a smile that did not reach my ears and said in a voice that everyone could hear, "Wow! But know this, the moment you groveled and called him Mr. Foreman, you're already fired!"
Chapter 3
The lawyer was clearly panicking. His lips trembled, and a hint of fear flashed in his eyes.
"The guy's lost it! He's completely insane. Ms. Wardle's legal team is already here, and he's still pretending to be Ms. Wardle's husband!"
"What's the point of acting crazy? Did you hear? The compensation is at least two million! I bet he doesn't even have ten thousand! He's going to jail!"
"Ms. Wardle loves her husband so much, that guy's a dead man!"
I ignored them, just staring at Mr. Harrington coldly. "Are you sure you want to be my..."
Before I could finish speaking, he kicked me in the stomach and looked down at me with arrogance, the fear on his face completely gone.
"Mr. Foreman is Ms. Wardle's only husband. You're just a fraud!"
I felt like my internal organs had shifted from that kick. The excruciating pain made cold sweat pour down my forehead.
I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth, my voice as cold as ice.
"Mr. Harrington, watch your back. I won't let you or Snow away with this so easily..."
Slap!
Chad slapped me, his eyes flashing with triumph and arrogance.
"You're still talking big! If you kneel and bow down to me a hundred times, then say on camera that you're a shameless piece of trash and you'll never damage Snow's reputation again, I'll let you off the hook. I'm warning you, pretending to be crazy won't work in court."
Hearing this, the lackeys all rolled up their sleeves, eager to get their hands on me.
"Mr. Foreman, there's no need for you to do it yourself. Ms. Wardle is six months pregnant; you need to take care of her. Don't hurt yourself."
"I'll teach this conceited guy a lesson for you!"
Wow! I had only left the country for half a year...
So Snow had been cheating with him for such a long time! Now she was even carrying his baby!
I could not believe I foolishly guaranteed to my father that Snow would always be loyal to me!
I felt like the world's biggest clown.
Chad gestured, and the leading lackey picked up a kettle.
"Let's disfigure this pretty boy!"
Just as he was about to pour hot water on my head, a sound of hurried footsteps came from the door.
Snow, dressed in a tailored suit and wearing gold-rimmed glasses, had an imposing aura that made everyone subconsciously go quiet.
Except for Chad, who pouted and looked aggrieved.
"Honey, here you are. I'm so mad. This guy pretended to be your husband and even hit me…"
Snow's stern expression immediately softened, and she threw herself into his arms with affection, "Don't be scared."
Snow's eyes lingered on my face for two seconds before she said coldly, "Jesse, you're causing trouble as soon as you return to the country. Have I been too lenient with you?"
I was causing trouble?
I was so angry that I laughed. The words of questioning were just about to come out of my mouth when she interrupted me.
Snow turned to Mr. Harrington, "I asked you to come here to protect Chad, you useless fool! The store is smashed; don't you know how to issue a legal notice? Demand compensation!"
I was the one who brought all the investors to the mall. The luxury brands only moved in because of my reputation.
How could Snow have the nerve to demand compensation from me?!
Chad looked like he had suffered a grave injustice. He showed Snow his arm, which was scratched red by me.
"Honey, I know everything he said is a lie. I don't mind being bullied, but your reputation can't be tarnished. He kept shouting that he's your husband and the mall is his. What will others think of you? What will they think of Wardle Group?"
He made it sound like he was doing it all for Snow.
Snow's expression turned completely cold, impatience and disgust gleaming in her eyes
"Today, no one gets to leave until the compensation is paid!"
Chapter 4
I almost laughed when I saw her righteous indignation.
It seemed she did not intend to hide anything from me anymore.
I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth. "Snow, are you really gonna protect your lover in front of me?"
Chad immediately glared at me fiercely. "Who are you calling a lover? Your ambition has made you go insane, you gigolo!"
After saying that, he was about to hit me again, but I resolutely intercepted his attack. My gaze fell on Snow, who was a few steps away.
"I'm giving you one last chance. Explain yourself."
Snow frowned at me and, after a moment, said coldly, "I don't know you, sir. I'm treating you politely, but that doesn't mean I can accept you mistreating my husband again and again. Our company's legal team is not just for show!"
The people around burst out laughing.
"Why are you still keeping up the act? Ms. Wardle's already here, but you're still saying all that crap! You should run away before Ms. Wardle completely destroys you!"
"He looks all proper, but he's a scumbag inside, trying to be a homewrecker in front of the husband!"
Snow then said in a voice that only she and I could hear, "Jesse, this is the last chance you'll get from me. Don't be ungrateful. Do you see anyone in the Wardle Group still willing to listen to you?"
I retorted without hesitation, "How shameless can you be?! We all know the truth!"
"If you hadn't made a fuss, all this wouldn't have happened. You deserve it. Now go home and reflect on your actions, or you'll regret this!"
I couldn't help but sneer. It seemed a life of luxury had made her forget who it was that helped her get to where she was!
Chad grabbed Snow's arm and pretended to persuade her, "Honey, don't be mad, maybe he's just confused..."
"Confused? I think he's being greedy!"
Snow turned to Mr. Harrington, "Handle this according to procedure. Make sure the compensation is paid in full! Let's see how he's gonna pay!"
Watching her speak so confidently, I suddenly felt like I had wasted a lot of years raising a backstabber.
"Sure," I nodded, "Compensation, right? How much do you want?"
As soon as I said that, the surrounding lackeys laughed.
Chad looked me up and down and said smugly, "Two million."
"Can you afford it? I bet you don't even have a thousand."
Snow crossed her arms, a mocking smile on her face.
"Jesse, I've already cut off your credit cards. How are you going to pay?"
I pursed my lips. I did not expect Snow to cheat on me with a brainless fool like that.
Even my family's nanny's annual salary was more than two million.
"Okay."
Instantly, mocking laughter rose around me.
"Keep acting, keep acting!"
"Two million? You?"
"Stop wasting everyone's time. Ms. Wardle, there's no need to be polite to him. Drag this madman away; don't let him continue to embarrass himself here. This kind of person will take a whole arm if you give him a finger!"
The bodyguards stepped forward, ready to grab my arm.
Just then, over a dozen luxury cars drove up from afar and helicopters buzzed loudly overhead, shaking the ground.
The smile on Snow's face froze.
"What... what's going on?"
The luxury cars stopped neatly at the entrance, and a group of bodyguards in suits walked over in an orderly manner. An elderly man with a white beard, dressed in high-end custom-made clothing, descended from the helicopter.
His sharp gaze surveyed the scene before finally landing on me. He walked straight to me and bowed respectfully.
"Sorry we're late, Mr. Swain."
