Chapter 1

After the cooperation was negotiated, I saw an old, scavenged man who had scattered and fainted on the side of the road due to heatstroke.

I anxiously helped the old man into the car and prepared to take him to the hospital.

But my wife’s secretary covered his nose and looked disgusted. “It’s so dirty. I won’t be in the same car with him.”

I rolled my eyes. “Since you don’t want to take the car back to the company, you suit yourself.”

I drove to the hospital with the old man who had heatstroke, picked him up and successfully saved his life.

But when I got home, my wife asked me angrily, “Do you know that you left Lincoln alone on the road? In the 45-degree high temperature, he walked back to the company and fainted from heatstroke. Fortunately, he was rescued in the intensive care unit for one day.”

I knew this was a bitter trick that Lincoln had used. He had used it countless times and every time, he made Estelle misunderstand me, get angry at me and it was getting worse and worse.

I explained patiently again, “I am sending a scavenger to the hospital with heatstroke. He is unwilling to have a car with the scavenger. Besides, an adult knows how to take a taxi.”

After hearing this, Estelle stopped arguing with me again.

She only left a light sentence, “It seems that he did it to himself this time. I understand. I misunderstood you.”

I thought this matter had passed, but I didn’t expect that on the wedding anniversary, Estelle mysteriously said that she wanted to give me a surprise.

But when I unbuttoned the scarf that blocked my eyes, I found myself in a no-man’s land.

A cold sound came from the plane overhead.

“Mortimer, didn’t you say that adults should know how to take a taxi? You can do it now.”

I couldn’t help but feel ridiculous. In order to vent her anger on the puppy secretary, she threw me into a no-man’s land full of wild animals.

Perhaps, this marriage should have ended long ago.

I clicked on the satellite phone with the location in my hand and said, “Come and pick me up.”

——

After hearing my words, Estelle laughed sarcastically.

“Mortimer, aren’t you scared? This is a no-man’s land. Who else can you ask to pick you up besides me? I advise you to kneel on the ground and apologize and kowtow to Lincoln. If he forgives you, maybe he can let you leave early; otherwise, you will be waiting here to be bitten by a beast.”

Lincoln, next to her, looked proud. “Mr. Watkins, I don’t want this either, but you left me behind and I almost died of heatstroke. You owe me this. But if you admit your mistakes and kowtow to apologize to me, I’ll beg the President to let you suffer less.”

I felt so disgusted when I saw him, a big man, but he always looked like a pretentious person.

Estelle and I were married for seven years. I didn’t expect that she could bring me danger because of this little secretary. Her former promise turned into shits and she had long forgotten it.

Holding the pain in my heart, I looked up at Estelle.

“Estelle, do you really think that thing is my fault? I just saw an old man who was picking up scattered items and wanted to save him. Your little secretary had healthy limbs. As long as he was not an idiot, he knew how to take transportation. This was obviously his bitter plan. I don’t believe you can’t tell it?”

Estelle’s face changed.

When Lincoln saw me secretly, he looked at me with deep hatred and then spoke with red eyes.

“I know you don’t like me, but how can you call me an idiot, Mr. Watkins? I am just a student who has just graduated from college. How can I be more wealthy than you, Mr. Watkins? I either drive or take a taxi when going out. Where can I get money to take a taxi?”

He shed a tear, as if he had suffered all his grievances. “Forget it, just think I’m taking it upon myself. President, please don’t punish Mr. Watkins. I’m just an insignificant secretary. At worst, I can leave and I don’t want Mr. Watkins to resent you because of me.”

Chapter 2

Seeing his beloved secretary feel so aggrieved, Estelle immediately turned cold. “Mortimer, you still don’t know your mistakes. It’s hopeless. Lincoln is obviously the wronged party and I will not let you bully him again.”

Looking at Lincoln’s clumsy performance, I laughed out loud.

“Estelle, do you believe his clumsy excuse? Have you forgotten how much salary you paid him a month? 13,000 dollars a month, but I only have 600 dollars a month. How could he not have money to take a taxi? Don’t you see what he is wearing?”

Lincoln was wearing famous brands and was valuable and I only wore a few cheapest clothes in a season.

Just because of the 600 dollars, I basically didn’t have any left after paying the utilities and electricity bills at home and I had no spare money to buy clothes.

Hearing this, Estelle’s face turned red for a moment and then she said angrily, “Are you complaining about the high salary I paid for Lincoln? He just graduated and needed money to rent a house and eat and commute. What’s wrong with giving him more and letting him not work so hard? You are the director and my husband, who has food and accommodation, so why do you need such a salary?”

“I think you are just jealous of Lincoln, so I deliberately left him behind. This time, I must punish you well so that you can know how wrong you are.”

No matter what Lincoln did, she would defend him. I didn’t seem to have anything to say to her.

It was just that it was getting darker and I had to rely on the compass to keep myself away from danger as much as possible.

Unexpectedly, a wolf’s howl came from a distance. I looked closely and almost lost my breath.

There were more than a dozen wolves standing on the hillside in the distance, staring at my place with bright eyes, as if they were about to rush over at any time.

My legs and feet were so weak and my face turned pale. If these wolves rushed over, I would definitely be torn to pieces.

I looked up at Estelle in the plane. As long as she put down the rescue ladder, I could get out of danger.

Estelle also looked at me, but she had no worries in her eyes, only jokes and cruelty. “Mortimer, I know you are afraid now and you want to beg me, but unfortunately, it’s too late. You threw Lincoln on the road at 45 degrees. He fainted from heat stroke after walking back to the company and he almost lost his life. This is what you owe him. I have to teach you a lesson.”

I looked at Estelle incredulously, intending to give her a last chance. As long as she was willing to let me get on the plane, I could give up the principle for her again.

“Estelle, that’s a wolf. Do you know what I would become if they pounced on me? What did I do wrong? You want me to die?”

Estelle was stunned for a moment, then looked at me with a normal expression.

“You won’t die. I just want you to learn a lesson and I will take you back when you get a lesson.”

I smiled and burst into tears. After all, I overestimated my status in her heart. I looked at Estelle in disappointment. “Estelle, you don’t need to take me back.”

Estelle, no matter what happened from now on, you must remember that this was the fruit of your doings today.

Hearing my words, Estelle looked angry. “What do you mean? Is it because I didn’t let you get on the plane right away, so you’re throwing a tantrum with me? I’m so nice to you every time and this is your payback?”

At this moment, the wolves began to run towards me.

I was too lazy to talk nonsense with Estelle anymore and started running to the other side.

I dared not relax at all, so I rushed forward desperately, just trying to keep the distance between me and the wolf as much as possible.

But how could a person run away from a wolf? I could almost hear my heartbeat as I heard the wolf cries getting closer and closer.

Chapter 3

A trace of worry flashed across Estelle’s face when she was watching this scene on the plane. Lincoln, who caught this, had a grudge flash in his eyes.

Then he held Estelle’s arm and acted coquettishly. “President, are you worried about Mr. Watkins? This is the periphery of the no-man’s land. These wolves have been tamed and will not hurt people. But you are still so worried. Since that’s the case, you don’t have to pretend to want to seek justice for me.”

“I almost died from the 45-degree heatstroke that day, just think of my life as nothing. But I always remember you holding my hand and saying that you wanted to seek justice for me. If it weren’t for you, I would have been unable to hold on at that time and would have died long ago.”

After hearing this, Estelle looked at me again and hugged Lincoln in her arms with a look of distress. “Lincoln, I said I want to seek justice for you, but I will keep my word. But this wolf looked so fierce and I was a little stunned for a moment. Don’t these wolves really hurt people?”

A panic flashed in Lincoln’s eyes and then he returned to normal. “Of course, I just want to vent my anger. I still want Mr. Watkins to be alive. Don’t you believe me?”

Estelle shook her head quickly and kissed Lincoln on his forehead. “You are so kind, of course I believe you. After Mortimer apologizes to you this time, you will get along well with each other, alright?”

Estelle finished speaking and looked down at the ground, then widened her eyes at the scene in front of her.

The group of howling wolves had rushed to Mortimer. They surrounded Mortimer in the middle and circled around Mortimer, as if they were looking at their prey.

Seeing this, Lincoln smiled and said, “President, do you see these wolves playing around with Mr. Watkins? As long as Mr. Watkins does not act excessively, the wolves will not move.”

Estelle, who was still worried, suddenly breathed a sigh of relief after hearing this. “I hope they can teach him a lesson this time.”

Estelle looked down at me and said, “Mortimer, do you know that you are wrong now?”

I looked up and looked at her coldly. “I was wrong.”

She was stunned and I continued to speak word by word, “I was wrong seven years ago.”

Estelle looked angry. “If you don’t repent, don’t blame me for not giving you a chance.”

I watched the red dots on the satellite positioning watch beating little by little and my heart was relieved a little.

Looking at the group of wolves, I made a decision after a little thought. I untied the dagger hidden in the bracelet and rushed towards one of the wolves with lightning speed.

I had already seen it; this was the wolf king. As long as I subdued it, I could shock other wolves, so that they dared not act rashly and bought time for myself.

At the same time, a scream sounded from the top of my head. “Mortimer, what are you doing?”

I ignored the anxious shout and jumped on the wolf king to tie its neck. The dagger penetrated into its neck and the hot blood spurted out, splashing my face.

Seeing this, the wolf pack quickly dispersed and looked at me vigilantly.

The wolf king wailed twice, then fell down completely and I breathed a sigh of relief for a while.

The wolves around were wailing in the sky, but none of them dared to step forward again.

Lincoln rushed into Estelle’s arms, looking scared. “President, it was so scary just now. Mr. Watkins annoyed the wolves, so he won’t implicate us.”

Estelle looked at me with anger. “Mortimer, were you crazy just now? Why did you kill the wolf? What should you do if these wolves attack you when they are crazy? Then I will not save you. Are you trying to deliberately drag me into this mess? I really didn’t expect your mind to be so vicious. Do you want me to be buried with you here?”
