Chapter 2

While Ben was talking to the coroner, his phone rang in his pocket. He stepped out of the morgue and answered the call in the hallway.

On the other end of the line, Clara's tearful voice came through. "Ben, can you come to my house? Yuina has run away!"

Ben frowned slightly and asked, "What is she causing trouble about this time?"

Clara pretended to be aggrieved and said, "It's all my fault. I already explained to her about that time when you were drunk and I took you to the hotel, but she still doesn’t believe me and thinks I seduced you! I had a few arguments with her and she slapped me before storming out of the house.”

Hearing this, Ben said angrily, “Why is she so petty? Even after all this time, she’s still hung up on it? If I had known she was so narrow-minded, I would never have agreed to the engagement. Forget it, I’ll go over there now and talk to her properly when I find her. If she keeps acting so unreasonable, I’ll have to seriously reconsider our marriage.”

Hearing Ben's angry tone, my spirit floating in the air felt deeply pained. Ben would rather believe Clara than me. Even if I were still alive and revealed to him that Clara had plotted against me, he probably wouldn’t believe it.

At this moment, Clara must be laughing triumphantly on the other end of the phone. With our wedding approaching, she had fallen for Ben and wanted to completely take him away from me, so harming me became her top choice.

My spirit followed Ben to the Koch Family home.

Dennis was comforting the crying Clara. With a stern face, he said, "Clara, it's not your fault, so don't cry. You’re just too kind-hearted, always taking the blame for others' mistakes. When Yuina comes back, I will definitely give her a good scolding and make her apologize to you properly!"

My father snorted, "Yuina is becoming increasingly outrageous. After raising her for so many years, she’s turned into an ungrateful child!"

While comforting Clara, my mother expressed her dissatisfaction with my father, "If it weren’t for your negligence back then, how could we have ended up with the wrong child?"

"You also share the blame for letting our biological daughter suffer outside for so many years! When Yuina comes back, she needs to be told clearly that Clara is one of the rightful members of this family. If Yuina feels that we're being unfair, then just let her leave our home and find her real parents. That way, she won't be so resentful all the time!"

Hearing their conversation and seeing their disdainful expressions, my heart felt cold and dead. They used to care for me with such attention. Since Clara came into the family, her cunning schemes and masterful acting as a victim had turned them against me.

If it weren't for the concern about public opinion and our engagement, they would probably have kicked me out of the Koch Family already.

When Ben arrived, Clara, with her eyes red and swollen, quickly said, "Ben, do you have any news about Yuina? She has been missing for half a day and I'm really worried about her!"

Ben frowned and said, "I called her on the way here, but her phone is turned off."

Dennis scoffed and said, "In my opinion, she's probably hiding in some hotel watching the drama unfold. She's just trying to make us anxious and get more attention from us."

"Not long ago, someone used her phone to call home, claiming that she had been murdered and asking us to go identify the body and collect it! She's really gone too far now, even enlisting people to help her put on a show."

My father nodded in agreement and said, "If she's going to leave home, she needs to have the means to support herself. I've already canceled her credit cards and other accounts. Let's see how long she can last out there. This time, we must discipline her properly to prevent her from becoming arrogant and doing things that would disgrace the Koch Family in the future."

Chapter 3

My mother said to Ben, “We arranged for you and Yuina to be together back when we didn’t know that she wasn’t our biological daughter. Since Clara returned, Yuina seems to have become a different person, occasionally doing things that make us both angry and helpless. She’s a world apart from Clara!”

She continued, “Ben, our families have always been close and we don’t want to push you into a difficult situation! If you’re unhappy with Yuina and wish to end the engagement, we won’t stand in your way.”

My mother's meaning was clear. She wanted Ben to break off our engagement and marry Clara instead.

This was not just her opinion; it's also what my father, Clara and Dennis all thought.

Ben hesitated for a moment and finally sighed, "Let's talk about it after we find Yuina. Her recent behavior has indeed made me quite weary."

Though he didn't directly agree, Ben also didn't refuse my mother's proposal. My soul drifted in the air, witnessing the scene with tears I could not shed.

I glared intensely at Clara, who was still playing the innocent and aggrieved role. I desperately wanted to expose her vile and deceitful nature to everyone. But now that I am dead, no one could see me and no one could hear my cries. Even if I tried to strike Clara, it would only be a faint breeze brushing her face, causing no harm.

I truly had no attachments left to this world. No one cared for me. But I didn't want to die with such a lack of clarity.

At that moment, my father received a phone call. After listening, he furrowed his brow and said to Clara, “The bank just called. They said that a large sum of money was spent recently on the supplementary card I issued for you. What did you buy?”

Clara quickly responded, “I sent a large amount of money to a close friend who is seriously ill. They need it for treatment.”

Seeing Clara’s hasty explanation, my father spoke gently, “I’m not upset about you spending money. I know you have a kind heart. I’m just worried that you might be deceived by someone.”

In reality, the large sum of money Clara spent went to the person who had killed me. However, no one besides me knew about this.

That evening, my soul followed Ben back to his home. He seemed agitated, sitting at his desk in the study. On the computer screen was a photo of us together. I was smiling brightly and his eyes were full of affection as he looked at me. He stared at the screen, lost in thought, not knowing what to make of it.

After a long while, he rubbed his temples in frustration, pulled out his phone and dialed my number once more. This time, the call went through.

As soon as the call connected, Ben's anger was palpable. His forehead was creased with tension as he roared, “Yuina, how long are you going to keep this up? You’re not a child anymore, so why are you still throwing tantrums? I’ve explained this to you countless times. I’m not involved with Clara in the way you think. Why can’t you believe me? Where are you right now? We need to have a serious talk!"

"Say something! Are you mute or what?"

Ben's anger erupted as he yelled into the phone. Suddenly, the voice of the coroner who had examined my body came through.

“Mr. Groner? This is the victim’s phone. It was just turned on after charging and your call came through immediately. Do you know the victim?"

Upon hearing this, Ben’s body went rigid. His face turned ashen and the phone slipped from his hand, crashing to the floor.
