Chapter 1
On the day my parents had a car accident, I called Troy Malone countless times.
I asked him to help me contact a doctor, but he told me to handle it myself, citing that he was busy.
My parents were dying on the operating table. The only two doctors on duty were called away.
In the end, failing to be rescued in time, they both passed away!
While handling the aftermath, I saw Troy's figure on the other side of the hospital.
His childhood sweetheart was pregnant, leaning weakly against him and crying.
"Thanks to you for finding so many doctors to accompany me. Otherwise, both I and the child would be in danger!"
I rushed to them and grabbed Troy's clothes, questioning him angrily, "Why did you call away so many doctors? Aren't other people's lives important?"
...
Troy responded to me indifferently.
"What do other people's lives have to do with me? It is all because of their bad luck!"
——
"Bad luck?"
My heart suddenly ached, and all my strength was gone at that moment.
I leaned against the wall and looked at him as if I were getting to know him again.
He had taken the initiative to pursue me.
Per him, I was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, and he was willing to protect me from any hardship for the rest of his life.
I believed him. Like all the girls who longed for sincere love, I dedicated myself to this relationship without hesitation.
Over four years of college and two years of living together, I devoted all my time to him.
I even cooked for him after work, taking care of all his needs.
Even his parents acknowledged me.
When I thought we were about to get married, he changed.
His childhood sweetheart, Siena Reid, got divorced.
He started staying out all night. Disregarding my meeting the next day, he woke me up in the early morning, asking me to cook dishes because of a word from Siena.
Siena wanted to change her residence and move into our home. Hearing this, he packed up my stuff and sent me to a hotel overnight.
Upon recalling, I found him so ridiculous.
I stabilized myself and took out the key to our home from my pocket, throwing it at his feet.
"Let's break up!"
Chapter 2
I was the only child in my family. My parents, who were from the rural area, managed to send me to college.
They knew that I was dating Troy.
His parents met mine before. This time, the elders of the Malone family would discuss the settled matters with my parents.
My parents naturally agreed. To save face for me, they even bought a second-hand car.
But they had a car accident on the way.
The doctor contacted me. Everything was proceeding normally. They would have surgery and go through the necessary examinations.
But the problem was that all the doctors who could perform the surgery today had been transferred, and it was unknown when they would return.
My parents were in a critical condition.
In this situation, I thought of Troy. His family ran a private hospital, and they should be able to arrange doctors.
The phone was quickly answered, but it was a woman's voice on the other end.
I didn't have time to identify whose voice it was. I quickly explained my current situation, hoping it could be conveyed.
There was a period of silence on the phone.
I had been waiting for so long.
It had only been a few seconds, but I felt like it had been a century.
The one over the call seemed to have said something.
Troy answered the phone indifferently, "I'm busy. Don't come to me for everything. I'm busy."
"It's just a car accident. Any ordinary doctor can handle it. I am going to hang up."
When I called him again, I was prompted with a message. [The one over the call can't be reached.]
The doctor had mentioned several times that my parents were in critical condition, so I hurriedly called Troy's parents and finally saw a glimmer of hope.
"I'll send someone over right away. Wait."
"I'll contact a doctor later."
With their response, I was slightly at ease in my heart.
Chapter 3
The transfer procedures were done quickly. All the necessary examinations were arranged promptly.
Leaning against the wall, I was about to breathe a sigh of relief.
Unexpectedly, the doctors, who were supposed to enter my parents' operating room, were leaving in large numbers.
I quickly stopped them, but they pushed me away fiercely.
"Emergency call in the VIP ward. There will be other people coming in for surgery."
I stumbled as I tried to pull them back, but others dispersed me.
The surgical light was still on.
Ten minutes passed. Twenty minutes passed. Someone finally came.
But he went in and out quickly, looking sad.
"I did my best."
I stumbled a few steps, wondering what he meant by that.
Two beds were right in front of me.
The blood-stained beds were being pushed away from my sight.
I wiped away my tears and clenched my teeth, trying to step onto the beds, but someone stopped me.
The doctor's words echoed in my ears, "Please accept my condolences."
My world was turned upside down at that moment.
I didn't know what was keeping me standing.
I went to handle the necessary procedures, but I couldn't hear any sounds amid the people coming and going.
I felt like a walking corpse.
A man and a woman approached me, but I couldn't see them. The woman suddenly called out to me.
"Jessa, you're here too."
Siena supported her pregnant belly. Her voice sounded sweet and pleasant.
"I owed a lot to Troy this time. If it weren't for him arranging so many doctors for me and constantly comforting me, I would have been worried that something might happen to the child!"
I, who had planned to bypass them, stopped in my tracks and looked up at Troy in disbelief.
"Did you call those doctors away?"
I grabbed his collar.
"Why did you transfer so many doctors? Aren't other people's lives important?"
My actions seemed to have upset him. He forcefully shook my hands away.
He was indifferent and arrogant. I had never seen him like this before. Then he said, "If they can't wait for doctors to save them, maybe it's just their bad luck!"
"By the way, give me the key to the house. Siena lives alone. I don't feel at ease with someone else holding the key."
Siena seemed to sense that something was not right. She quickly stepped forward to mediate, saying, "Jessa isn't someone else. Troy, don't argue with Jessa because of me.'
She sounded gentle and sincere, but she looked at me mockingly and provocatively.
"Jessa, Troy is just like my own brother. He is too worried about me. Jessa you don't need to mind him."
After she finished speaking, Troy protected her behind him and said, "Don't mind her. You are more important now."
I laughed at myself.
"If I don't mind now, I don't need to in the future."
"Let's break up!"
I threw the key at his feet and turned around to leave, but he pulled my hand.
Troy looked impatient and said, "Because I asked you to come to the hospital by yourself, you're giving me attitude, right?"
"Jessa Doyle, you don't know what's good for you."
I was tired. I didn't have the energy to argue with him.
I said, "You can just think that I don't know what's good for me!"
