Chapter 3

On the day of my nephew's first-month party, my mother proudly carried him out and paraded him around each table after all the relatives had taken their seats.

Her pride was practically bursting from her. "Look at him! My grandson is so handsome and strong."

She made Gaven, barely a month old, stand up. Gaven stood for a second before falling, but that one second was enough for my mother to brag.

"See that? My grandson is amazing! He's only a month old and can stand. Whose grandson could be as remarkable as mine?" She glanced around, her eyes filled with unabashed pride.

One honest relative spoke up, "Briley, your grandson may look chubby, but he seems jaundiced. You should keep an eye on him."

This relative, straightforward and well-meaning, expressed her concern openly, hoping to remind my mother.

Other relatives chimed in, "Exactly, his face doesn't look well. It might be a good idea to take him to the hospital."

Hearing this, my mother snapped, "You're the ones who are sick! Your whole family should be living in the hospital!

"Stop talking nonsense. My grandson's got a fortunate look. Have you ever seen a successful person with a face like him?" She pointed at another relative's fair-skinned child and challenged everyone.

"You're all just jealous of my grandson's good looks. Let me tell you, he's one in a million. He might be the president one day.

"But you lot are just a bunch of ignorant peasants. You wouldn't know any better." She waved her hand dismissively, pretending to be magnanimous.

Paisley echoed her, "She's right! My son is the hope of the Wiley family."

The relatives had no choice but to smooth things over. Someone offered a few flattering words, "Yeah, I can see he's well-fed. He looks so chubby!"

"Briley, why not tell us your secrets to raising such a healthy child!"

My mother's face lit up with pride. She glanced disdainfully at Paisley before speaking, "Paisley is weak. She didn't have any milk after giving birth to Gaven, so my grandson was fed with my breast milk, which is why he's so strong!" At that moment, she beamed with even more pride.

Her wrinkled face lifted high as she was waiting for the compliments from others.

But the room fell silent.

Even the person who had asked the question was so shocked by her astonishing reply that she didn't know how to react.

After a while, someone finally replied lightly, "Briley, you really are something!"

Everyone else exchanged awkward glances and stopped talking, focusing on the food instead.

That was how things worked at village banquets. If you clicked with someone, you might chat a little more. If not, you would just follow the motions and leave.

After that day, the entire village knew that the Wiley family had an extraordinary grandchild, or at least, that was how my mother thought it.

Paisley began to approve of my mother's feeding methods. So whenever my nephew was hungry and cried loudly, Paisley would always carry him to my mother for breastfeeding.

As time went on, my nephew grew healthier, but the yellowish hue on his face became even more pronounced.

Chapter 4

When my nephew turned six months old and it was time to introduce solid foods, my mother mysteriously brought out a bowl of something. "Jocelyn, guess what this is?" My mother's excitement was written all over her face, and she could hardly hide it.

When I looked at the bowl filled with a bloody, foul-smelling substance, I recoiled in disgust, taking several steps back.

"What are you afraid of? This is ten-year-old rooster blood." My mother smacked my head hard and caressed the edge of the bowl, unable to let go.

"Eating this will help him develop faster; soon my grandson will become a genius." My mother's smile carried a disturbing quality.

Then she quickly added, "Gaven is the heir of our family, and you'll also rely on him in the future. As his aunt, you must help him."

After saying that, my mother held the palm up with fingers slightly curled, her gaze revealing an uncompromising authority.

I knew what she meant. She wanted me to contribute some money for my nephew to consume raw chicken blood. After all, this stuff, while a bit disgusting, wasn't easy to find, especially a ten-year-old rooster, and it wasn't cheap.

Long-term supply wouldn't be easy for an ordinary family.

In my previous life, I would have done everything I could to stop my mother from feeding my nephew these nonsensical things.

But I had experienced this rebirth, the moment Paisley swung the chopper at me, the soul-piercing pain of that blade slicing into my bones, and my mother and Paisley callously discarding the body as if it were an inconsequential cat or dog.

So my heart... was utterly broken.

"Mom, you truly have foresight to know about this!" I gave my mother a thumbs-up, complimenting her.

"Alright, I'll go get the money right away. Just a minute."

After all, compared to my life, money was secondary. Besides, I was waiting for the day when my mother and Paisley would face the consequences of their actions!

"Mom, here is three thousand dollars, which is all my savings." I handed over the money to her.

"Gaven's face has been so weird lately; it's obvious he lacks nutrition. You are right, Mom!"

My mother's face lit up with joy as she handed the bowl of chicken blood to my nephew. Paisley, who caught a whiff of the foul odor, looked astonished. "Briley, are you feeding Gaven this disgusting thing?"

My mother waved her hand impatiently. "I told you, you wouldn't understand. It's definitely good stuff. Do you think as a grandmother I would harm my grandson?" As she spoke, her tone turned more furious.

Seeing the situation was getting out of hand, I quickly intervened. "Paisley, don't doubt my Mom. It's just raw chicken blood. There's no need to make such a fuss about it."

"Raw chicken blood?" Paisley exclaimed.

"Briley, you want Gaven to eat raw chicken blood?"

A dish she had never heard of was presented as solid food for her son, and Paisley couldn't accept it.

"What's wrong with eating raw chicken blood? I'm telling you, you have a narrow view. This is a great supplement. It can strengthen the body and enhance intelligence. Look at Gaven. He was born so smart. If he eats this chicken blood, maybe he will just become a genius right away.

"The Wiley family has only one boy in each generation. If you delay my grandson from becoming a genius, I will not spare you even though you are his biological mother." My mother threatened fiercely.

"Jocelyn, you've got education. What do you think?" Paisley, not giving up, wanted me to persuade my mother.

In my previous life, I fell for this trick, thinking only of my nephew and buying formula for him. I never expected to become the scapegoat for the whole family, and everyone wished for my death. After I died, they wouldn't even let me rest in peace.

This time, I wouldn't fall for it.

"Paisley, my Mom is right. The blood from a ten-year-old rooster is nutritious. It's not something ordinary people can easily get.

"My nephew is already so smart. Eating the chicken blood will certainly ensure he becomes a genius. Just wait and enjoy the blessings."

Paisley usually lacked opinions. Hearing me support my mother, she instantly felt there was some truth to it.

My mother beamed with delight as she watched my nephew finish the bowl of raw chicken blood, his mouth smeared with blood, letting out a satisfied burp. The scene was quite bizarre. Yet, my mother's smile grew even brighter, as if in the next moment, my nephew would turn into a genius.

Having pus and raw chicken blood every day, my nephew grew quickly under the careful attention of my mother and Paisley.

By eight months, he was bigger than children who were two years old, and my mother often credited it to her efforts, arrogantly accepting others' false praises with a smile.

However, on the day Gaven turned one year old, he suddenly developed a fever, vomited blood, and was kept in the ICU.
