The Divorce

Amelia stood by the window of her room upstairs, the pregnancy test result clutched in her hand. She was pregnant again.

She had been noticing the signs for some time and had finally gone to the hospital for confirmation. The result came back positive.

She smiled softly as she touched her stomach. She couldn’t wait to tell her husband. They were going to have another child.

It had been six years since they had their first daughter, Eva, and Amelia hadn’t conceived again until now. She knew Aiden would be thrilled.

She wanted to share the news in a special way. Her husband, Aiden Miller, the alpha of the Red Moon Pack, one of the largest packs in the northern region, would be overjoyed.

But the vast territory came with dangerous borders, infested by rogues ready to tear apart anyone who wandered too close.

Amelia stepped away from the window and called the maids to help decorate her room. She smiled in satisfaction once they were done.

Next, she went to the kitchen to prepare Aiden’s favorite meal — which also happened to be Eva’s favorite.

Her daughter was so much like her husband. She smiled again.

“Luna, you don’t have to cook. I’ll prepare whatever you want,” said Elena, the cook.

Amelia turned to her and smiled. “I’ll cook for us tonight, Elena. Take the day off and get some rest.”

“Thank you, Luna. The Alpha will be so happy when he finds out you made his favorite dish. He doesn’t usually eat much, but when it’s your food, he can’t get enough of it,” Elena said.

Amelia blushed. Elena was right. Aiden loved her cooking. He always had.

After finishing the meal, she returned to her room.

Just then, the door opened and her daughter walked in with her nanny, Octavia.

“Mommy!” the little girl cried, running into her arms.

“Oh, my Eva,” Amelia smiled, kissing her cheeks and stroking her hair.

“Hello, Luna,” Octavia greeted.

Amelia sighed gently as she set Eva down. “Octavia, I’ve told you several times — stop calling me Luna. Just call me by my name.”

“I’ll try to,” Octavia said, noticing how especially happy Amelia seemed today. “I’ll help Eva change her clothes,” she added before exiting the room.

Amelia headed into the bathroom, took a bath, and changed into something elegant. Then she waited in her bedroom for her husband.

But as she opened her eyes again, she groaned softly. she had dozed off on the couch.

She checked her phone. It was 12:30 a.m.

Aiden had never come home this late before.

With the trouble along the pack’s perimeter and the demands of running the company, Aiden often worked late, but he usually made it home early enough to spend time with Eva. Even if he had to continue working from home afterward.

The ticking clock sounded deafening. She was worried. She tried calling him but no answer. His number wasn’t going through.

She called his office.

He hadn’t shown up there all day.

Where had he gone?

She was deeply worried.

Then she heard the sound of a car pulling into the pack house. Relief swept through her as the door opened and the familiar scent of her mate filled the room.

Her heart skipped a beat. She rushed over to him, excitement bubbling at the thought of finally telling him the good news.

He still looked as handsome as ever in the dim light.

“Why are you still awake at this time?” he asked coldly, pulling away from her embrace and setting down his suitcase.

He must be tired from work, she thought, still smiling brightly.

“I was worried about you. You look tired,” she said gently, helping him out of his jacket and loosening his tie.

“Amelia, we need to talk,” Aiden said, pausing when he noticed how decorated the room was. Was there an occasion he didn’t know about?

He didn’t ask. He had something more pressing to say.

“Sure. I’ll prepare you a hot bath, and then we can talk. I also have something to tell you,” she said, heading for the bathroom.

“There’s no need for that. I want to talk now,” he interrupted.

She paused. Something was off. His expression was unreadable, guarded, and cold. As his mate, she couldn’t even sense his thoughts clearly.

Was it about the rogue attack a few days ago? She thought that matter had been resolved.

“What’s wrong, Aiden? Was the pack attacked again?” she asked, concern lacing her voice.

“No, it’s not that…”

“Then what is it?” she pressed.

He stared at her for a long moment before handing her a file.

She opened it.

DIVORCE AGREEMENT.

Her heart sank.

“Aiden…” she whispered.

“But why?”

He looked her straight in the eyes. “Sofia is back.”

“Sofia? Your ex? What does she have to do with this?” she asked, confused.

“The night we found out we were mates, you seduced me into sleeping with you. Sofia left when she found out you were pregnant. She was my first love, and I want to go back to her.”

“Aiden… but I’m your mate. Chosen by the Moon Goddess—”

“Damn the goddess. Damn you being my mate. My father never married his mate, and he still raised a powerful alpha like me. I want a divorce, Amelia. And that’s final.”

His words hit her like a storm.

Amelia had fallen for Aiden in college, even though he had a girlfriend, Sofia. But when they discovered they were destined mates, they got married immediately.

“D…Divorce?” she asked, though the file in her hand already confirmed it. Her hands trembled.

“Yes, Amelia. This marriage was a mistake,” he said, his voice ice-cold.

She stared at him, stunned.

“I’ve done nothing but love you. I wake early to prepare your food, I carry out my duties as Luna. What have I done wrong?” Her voice cracked. Her teeth clattered together as her tears broke free.

“What did I do? Where did I go wrong?” she whispered, sinking to the floor in tears.

She had left everything behind for Aiden, her family, her pride, her home and this was how he repaid her.

“What about Eva?” she asked through tears.

“Eva is still my daughter. She’ll stay here with me. You’ll leave. Everything is detailed in the agreement,” he said.

He walked out, leaving her there alone, shattered.

No… this is a dream, she whispered, trembling.

A knock came at the door.

She tried to respond but no words came out.

“Luna, Eva is asking for you. She can’t sleep… I think she has a high fever,” Octavia’s voice called.

Amelia stood up quickly, wiped her tears, and rushed to her daughter’s room.

Eva lay on the bed, her eyes wide and body burning.

“Eva, honey,” she called.

“Mommy,” Eva whispered as Amelia sat beside her.

Tears spilled again as she stroked her daughter’s burning forehead.

They had been a happy family of three, soon to be four and now Aiden wanted a divorce? How pathetic.

“You’re burning up,” she said in a panic, rushing into the bathroom for a wet towel and placing it on Eva’s forehead.

“Octavia, go call Aiden. We need to take Eva to the hospital,” she ordered.

But Octavia returned moments later.

“Alpha Aiden is nowhere to be found. He’s left the house.”

TBcy

Eva is dead!

Octavia had came back and told Amelia that Alpha Aiden was nowhere to be found, he had left the house.

Amelia let out a shaky sigh as she stared down at her daughter, worry tightening around her chest.

She picked up her phone and dialed Aiden. This time, he answered.

“What do you want?”

His voice was cold. Distant. It pierced through her like a knife.

In the background, she heard a female voice.

“Is that Amelia?” The voice was familiar, painfully familiar.

It was Sofia.

He was with her.

Her fingers trembled. Her grip on the phone tightened.

“Aiden… it’s Eva. She’s sick. We need to take her to the hospital,” she said as calmly as she could, but her voice cracked slightly.

“I’m on my way,” he said, and the line went dead.

He has been seeing Sofia.

How long had it been going on?

The thought clawed at her chest, threatening to unravel her sanity.

But now wasn’t the time.

Eva was all that mattered.

She turned to her daughter, her breathing soft and shallow now, her fever seeming to calm slightly.

“Octavia, you can go to sleep. I’ll spend the night with Eva and wait for Aiden,” Amelia said.

Octavia nodded quietly and left, closing the door behind her.

Alone, Amelia sat by Eva’s bedside and stroked her damp hair.

Tears gathered in her eyes.

“Mommy, why are you crying? I’m okay. I’m going to get well,” Eva said softly, her voice fragile.

Amelia forced a smile.

“I know, honey. You’re a strong girl. Daddy is on his way. He’ll take you to the hospital.”

Eva gave a faint nod.

“Eva… we’re having a baby,” Amelia said quietly.

A wide smile spread across Eva’s pale lips.

“I’m having a baby brother?” she whispered, her voice cracking as tears spilled from her eyes.

Eva had always wanted a baby brother. Someone to play with. Someone to protect.

“Yes. A baby brother,” Amelia whispered, wiping her daughter’s tears.

“I’ll name him Arthur… and share all my toys with him. He’s going to be the next Alpha. We’ll both be Alphas together,” Eva murmured.

Amelia smiled through her tears, brushing her daughter’s hair back.

But then… Eva began to shiver. Violently.

Before Amelia could react, Eva threw up and in the middle of it, there was blood.

A chill swept down Amelia’s spine.

“Maids!” she screamed. “Clean this up. Octavia! Towels—now!”

She cleaned her daughter up quickly, heart pounding.

“It’s okay, honey. You’re going to be okay. Daddy’s almost here,” she whispered, pulling Eva tightly into her arms, trying to stop her own hands from shaking.

“I love you, Mommy…” Eva whispered weakly.

“I love you too, baby.”

Just then, the door burst open and Alpha Aiden stepped in, eyes scanning the room.

“What’s wrong?” he asked sharply, moving to take Eva from her arms.

But Eva clung tightly to Amelia, her small hands clutching her clothes.

She didn’t want to go. Not yet.

“I don’t know what’s happening…” Amelia said, her voice breaking.

They rushed to the car, and minutes later, they were at the hospital.

Now they stood outside the ward, watching as doctors worked frantically over their child.

Aiden was pacing, hands clenched, jaw tight. He looked like a caged angry wolf.

Suddenly, he spun around to face her.

“If anything happens to my daughter, I swear to God, I’ll make you pay,” he hissed.

Amelia blinked, stunned.

“What… what the hell are you saying?” her voice cracked with disbelief.

She wasn’t going to argue with him. Not now. All that mattered was Eva.

Just then, the doctor stepped out of the ward.

“Doctor, how is she?” they both asked, voices overlapping.

The doctor hesitated. “Your daughter was poisoned… but we’re trying our best to…”

A nurse walked up and whispered something urgently.

He nodded and followed her.

“Excuse me,” he muttered and walked away.

Aiden turned back to Amelia, eyes wild.

“You… You poisoned Eva, didn’t you? God! They warned me. They told me you’d do something like this. I should’ve known you were evil!” he barked.

Amelia stared at him, too stunned to speak.

Poison Eva?

Her own daughter? The child she carried for nine months? The child she nearly died giving birth to?

Her mouth opened, but nothing came out. Only a silent gasp. She didn't know what to say at this point.

She turned and rushed inside the ward.

Eva lay there, small and trembling, her eyes fluttering open.

“Mommy,” she whispered.

“I’m here, baby. You’re going to be fine,” Amelia said, holding back the scream that threatened to rip out of her throat.

She couldn’t cry. Not now. Not in front of her daughter.

“Did someone give you anything at school, honey?” she asked gently.

“No, Mommy. I only ate the food I had after coming home from school,” Eva said faintly.

Amelia swallowed hard.

She had prepared that food herself.

And Octavia had served it.

But Octavia? No… she had been with Eva since birth. She’d never poison Eva.

“I love you, Mommy. You know that, right?” Eva whispered, her small hand pressing against Amelia’s stomach. “And I love baby Arthur.”

Amelia held her hand, her tears finally falling.

“I love you too, baby.”

Then… Eva’s eyes slowly closed.

The monitor let out a long, piercing beep.

The lines on the screen went flat.

“Eva? What’s going on? Eva?! EVA!! Doctor!!” Amelia screamed.

Aiden, sitting outside the ward, stood immediately.

“Doctor! I don’t know what's happening to Eva. She suddenly closed her eyes,” she cried out as he rushed in.

The medical team swarmed around the little girl.

And then…

“Time of death,” the doctor said, his voice barely above a whisper.

The room spun.

Amelia collapsed to the floor, eyes wide, breath caught in her throat.

Eva…

Eva…

Eva’s gone…

She couldn’t feel her heart. It had stopped.

Her lungs burned.

Her soul shattered.

The last thing she saw was the ceiling spinning before everything went black.

To be continued…

I will make them pay!

Amelia’s eyes fluttered open. Blinding white light met her gaze.

She blinked, once, twice… then stared at the ceiling.

She was in a hospital room. The sterile smell, the silence, the white walls, it all came crashing down.

“Amelia,” a familiar voice said gently.

She turned her head slowly and saw Tracy, her best friend, sitting at her bedside.

“Tracy…” her voice was hoarse. “What are you doing here? Where’s Eva?”

Tracy’s eyes darkened with sorrow. She looked at Amelia the way one looks at the broken, helpless, and heart-wrenched.

Then it hit her.

Eva.

Memories came rushing back like a tidal wave.

Eva’s fever. The blood. The hospital. The heart monitor going flat.

Her daughter was dead.

Amelia gasped, her breath catching as tears streamed down her cheeks.

“Someone poisoned my daughter, Tracy,” she whispered, her voice cracking. “Someone killed my child…”

Her hands clutched at the hospital sheets, knuckles white.

“She… she loved that meal. I made it for her myself. How could it have been poisoned?”

“You have to calm down, Amelia. You’re pregnant. Please, you shouldn’t stress yourself,” Tracy said gently, placing her hands over hers.

Amelia’s eyes snapped toward her.

“How did you know I’m pregnant?” she asked, her voice still trembling. She was the only one who knew and no one else.

“The doctor told me,” Tracy replied.

A sudden thought gripped Amelia.

“Does Aiden know?”

Tracy shook her head slowly. “He doesn’t. He left before the test results came back. He’s the one who called me. He asked me to stay with you.”

He left?

She had just lost her daughter, and her husband couldn’t stay to hold her hand?

More tears welled up in her eyes. Her throat tightened.

She had lost everything in a single day her daughter, her husband, her marriage. It all unraveled in the blink of an eye.

“I need to talk to Aiden,” she muttered, suddenly pushing the sheets aside. Her legs trembled as she stood.

“He can’t divorce me. He needs to know I’m carrying his baby. And I didn’t poison Eva. I would never do such a thing to my own child,” her voice broke again. “We need to find who did this, Tracy. Whoever killed my baby… they need to pay.”

“Amelia, wait—” Tracy called after her, but Amelia was already out the door.

Tracy let out a long sigh, shaking her head.

Amelia had always been stubborn, ever since college.

By the time she reached the hospital entrance, Amelia was gone.

She stepped out of the taxi and stood in front of the Pack Hall.

Her heart was pounding.

Aiden needed to hear her out. He had to believe her. Maybe… maybe if she told him about the baby, he’d finally listen.

She took a breath and walked inside. As she passed, pack members bowed in respect.

She was still Luna, no matter what they said.

Amelia stepped into the elevator and rode to the fifth floor.

Outside his office, she paused.

The door was slightly open.

She was about to knock… when she heard voices.

Aiden. And… a woman.

Sofia.

Through the small crack, she saw Sofia sitting on Aiden’s desk in a short dress, giggling softly at something he said. The sight made her stomach turn.

“I can’t believe she poisoned my child,” Aiden said, his voice cold, pain laced in it. “She could’ve poisoned me too. I hate her. I just want her to sign the divorce papers.”

Amelia’s heart dropped like a stone.

How could he think I’d poison our child?

Tears blurred her vision.

“Are you sure she’ll sign it?” Sofia asked, eyes wide with fake concern.

“She won’t have a choice. After that, we’ll have the rejection ceremony. I’ll reject her,” he said flatly.

More tears rolled down Amelia’s cheeks.

“But don’t you love her?” Sofia asked.

“Don’t be mistaken. I feel nothing for her.”

Sofia smiled, touching his shoulder.

“I knew she was evil. Once she’s gone, we can finally be together.”

Aiden didn’t respond.

“Aiden?” she coaxed. “Did you hear me?”

“What?” he snapped, as though coming out of a trance.

“I said we’ll finally be together once she’s out of the picture,” Sofia repeated sweetly.

Aiden nodded.

That was enough.

Amelia pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Both Aiden and Sofia turned, stunned.

“Aren’t you supposed to be in the hospital?” Sofia asked under her breath.

“What do you want, Amelia?” Aiden asked coldly, standing from his seat. His face showed no emotion, just ice.

“I need to talk to you, Aiden. Please,” she said, swallowing hard, forcing herself not to cry in front of Sofia.

“You have nothing to say. You poisoned Eva. My child is dead because of you!” he growled.

“I didn’t kill her!” she cried, voice trembling. “I would never poison my daughter…”

Aiden scoffed. “Who prepared the food she ate?”

“I did, but…”

“That’s all I need to know. You made the food. You poisoned her. Get out of my office.”

“Aiden, I didn’t… I’m….”

“You heard him. Leave,” Sofia said smugly cutting her off.

Amelia’s fists clenched.

She turned toward Sofia, fury burning in her eyes.

“And who are you to speak to me like that? This is between me and my husband. Stay out of it.”

Sofia smirked. “Says the woman who killed her daughter. You don’t deserve to be Luna or even Aiden’s wife.”

Before anyone could blink, Amelia slapped her. Twice.

The sound echoed through the office.

“Don’t you ever speak to me like that again,” Amelia hissed. “I’m still Luna, and you have no right.”

Sofia’s eyes filled with tears, fake ones. She looked to Aiden for sympathy.

“Get out, Amelia,” he said coldly.

“Aiden…”

“I said GET OUT!” he yelled, slamming his fist on the desk.

Amelia flinched. She nodded slowly, her throat aching, and turned away.

Before the door closed behind her, she saw Aiden pull Sofia into his arms, stroking her hair as she “cried” into his chest.

The pain in her chest was unbearable.

He believed Sofia. He chose Sofia.

Back home, Amelia stood tall despite her pain.

She summoned every maid in the house and stood in front of them, her eyes bloodshot but determined.

“Who poisoned my daughter?” she asked. Her voice was low. Cold. Dangerous.

The maids bowed, all shivering.

No one answered.

“Who served the food I prepared?”

Octavia stepped forward.

“I did, Luna. I swear on my life, I didn’t poison her. I’ve been with you and Alpha Aiden since before Eva was born. I would never hurt her.”

Amelia stared into her eyes, long and hard.

She saw no lie.

Octavia was telling the truth.

But someone had poisoned her baby.

Someone had taken her angel from her.

And Amelia was going to find out who it was and make them pay.

To be continued…

Rejection ceremony I

There was no way she would find out who poisoned her daughter this way.

She had made inquiries about the CCTV footage in the pack house. Turns out it had been tampered with.

Her daughter couldn’t just go like that. She needed justice. Eva didn’t deserve what had happened to her. She was just a little girl.

Aiden, on the other hand, didn’t believe her, so what could she possibly do?

“Luna,” a voice called softly.

She turned to see Aiden’s Beta, James, standing beside Tracy.

James and Tracy were dating.

James quietly dismissed the maids, and Tracy rushed to Amelia’s side, catching her just as she began to collapse.

“Amelia…”

“Eva was such a sweet girl. She was my everything. Why would anyone poison her?” Amelia’s voice broke as tears streamed freely down her face.

Tracy’s heart ached as she looked at her. Tears welled up in her eyes too. The pain of a mother losing her child was unbearable—she wouldn’t wish it on her worst enemy.

They helped Amelia to her room and stayed with her while she cried herself to sleep.

When she finally dozed off, Tracy turned to James with pleading eyes.

“Is there any way you can talk to Alpha Aiden? Maybe he’ll listen to you?”

She wiped the corners of her eyes, then looked back at Amelia. Her face was damp with tears, even in sleep.

“Aiden is stubborn. He already believes she poisoned their daughter…”

“James, please…” She almost told him Amelia was pregnant but stopped. It wasn’t her place to spread the news.

“She can’t lose both her child and her mate in one day,” she whispered. “Please, just see if you can talk to him… change his mind.”

James sighed. “I can’t promise anything. But I’ll try.”

With that, he left the room.

———

James arrived at the pack company and headed straight to Aiden’s office. He found Aiden inside but he was with Sofia.

He hadn’t known Sofia was back in town. She had left after Aiden found out Amelia was his mate. What was she doing here now?

“James,” Sofia called sweetly, flashing an innocent smile.

He returned a tight nod, then turned to Aiden.

“I need to speak with you.”

Aiden glanced at Sofia. “I’ll drop by your condo later,” he said. She nodded, grabbed her purse, and left.

Once the door shut, James’s face hardened.

“Is she the reason you’re divorcing Amelia?”

Aiden raised his head. “She has nothing to do with this. Amelia killed my child. She poisoned her.”

“You really believe that?” James asked, disbelief clear in his tone. “You think Amelia…Amelia would poison her own daughter? Come on, Aiden. You know her better than that.”

Aiden didn’t reply. His eyes were distant, jaw clenched. James could see he was hurting but trying to hide it.

“The damage is done,” Aiden finally said. “I need you to arrange the rejection ceremony for this evening. I’ll be rejecting her as my mate and Luna.”

“What? Are you serious?” James took a step forward. “How can you be this heartless? She just lost her child, and now you want to break the mating bond too? Do you even realize how much pain that’ll cause her?”

Aiden’s eyes darkened. His fists clenched. He growled lowly.

“How dare you question your Alpha?” he snapped, slamming his fist on the desk.

James flinched but stood his ground. “I just hope you don’t regret this decision, Aiden. When it’s too late.”

He turned and walked out.

__________

Evening came.

Amelia woke up, her eyes so swollen she could barely see. Her face was pale, lips dry and trembling.

“You need to eat something,” Tracy said softly, worry in her voice. “You’re pregnant, Amelia. You don’t want to lose the baby too.”

“I don’t want to eat. I want my daughter,” she sobbed.

“Amelia…” Tracy called gently, taking her hands in hers.

“Let me go, Tracy! Let me go!” she cried, pulling away, her body shaking with grief.

Then suddenly, the door flung open and silence fell like a storm.

Alpha Aiden stepped into the room.

Amelia slowly raised her head, his scent hitting her senses. He looked at her blankly, face unreadable.

Why was he here? Wasn’t he supposed to be with his mistress?

“Alpha Aiden,” Tracy said, standing up quickly and bowing her head. Then, she slipped out of the room, leaving them alone.

For a moment, they just stared at each other.

Then Amelia broke the silence.

“Aren’t you supposed to be with your mistress?” she asked, her voice hollow.

Aiden looked away, avoiding her eyes.

“Get ready for the rejection ceremony. It’ll be held at 10 p.m.,” he said coldly.

Amelia laughed, a cracked, broken sound. She stood up, unsteady, her eyes wild.

She had lost her child. Now she was losing her mate. Her sanity teetered on the edge.

Maybe she’d wake up in an asylum by morning.

She moved closer to him, staring into his eyes. The warmth that once lived there… was gone. Everything about him was ice.

Tears streamed down her face as the realization sank in: her Aiden was gone.her mate was gone.

There was no point in telling him about the baby.

“There’s no need for the ceremony,” she said, wiping her tears. “Let’s do the rejection here and now.”

Aiden hesitated, then nodded.

“If that’s what you want.”

He stared at her, his voice flat, eyes emotionless.

“I, Aiden Miller, Alpha of Red Moon Pack, reject you, Amelia Lopez, as my mate and Luna.”

Rejection ceremony II

Aiden Miller stood like a statue in the dimly lit room, facing the she-wolf who had been his mate and Luna.

The air was thick with tension as they locked eyes, hearts pounding in the silence.

In a cold, emotionless voice, Aiden declared,

“I, Aiden Miller, Alpha of Red Moon Park, reject you, Amelia Lopez, as my mate and as my Luna.”

His words cut through the stillness like a knife.

Amelia stumbled back, eyes wide in shock and agony.

The pain slammed into her chest like a flaming blade. It stole her breath, tore through her soul.

Her eyes searched his, desperately for warmth, for regret… anything. But there was nothing.

Only a cold, empty void.

She gasped, a choked sound, as pain tore through her chest. The bond between them was unraveling, violently, viciously.

Aiden was watching her. Distant. Detached. As if daring her to break.

“I, Former Luna of Red Moon Park, accept your rejection, Alpha Aiden Miller,” she whispered.

A whimper escaped her lips as the final thread snapped.

A sob clawed its way out of her throat. Her heart shattered, piece by piece, and she collapsed onto the ground.

Clutching her chest, waves of pain racked her body.

Her daughter was gone. Her mate was gone.

And now, so was she.

Her lungs felt like they were closing. Everything around her blurred.

She caught a glimpse of Aiden still standing, still cold, doing nothing as her world blacked out.

When Amelia opened her eyes, she was in her room. Her body ached. She blinked, and saw Tracy beside a familiar woman, the healer.

“Tracy,” she croaked.

Both women turned immediately.

“Luna, you’re awake. How do you feel?” the healer asked gently.

Amelia’s hand flew to her stomach.

“How’s my baby?” she asked, ignoring the question.

The healer hesitated.

“The baby is okay… but your health isn’t. You’re extremely weak, and that could affect the pregnancy.”

Fear darkened Amelia’s eyes.

“Will I lose my baby?”

The healer’s voice softened.

“The chances of miscarriage are very high. Until you’re past the first trimester, you must rest as much as possible.”

Amelia nodded slowly. Even though she had lost her mate and her daughter, she wouldn’t lose this baby. Not for anything.

For Eva’s sake.

“I’ll bring your medications. I hope you recover soon,” the healer said kindly.

“Wait,” Amelia called as the woman turned to leave.

“Yes, Luna?”

Amelia’s voice was barely a whisper.

“Don’t let the Alpha know I’m pregnant.”

The healer’s eyes widened in shock, but she nodded.

“I’ll see her out,” Tracy said, walking the healer out.

Suddenly, the door flung open again.

Amelia looked up, expecting Tracy.

Instead, it was Sofia.

“What are you doing here?” Amelia asked, voice tight.

Sofia chuckled.

“So you pretended to faint just to make Aiden stay? Pathetic.” Her mocking voice made Amelia flinch.

“We already broke the bond. He rejected me. I accepted.”

“Oh, wonderful,” Sofia smirked. “That makes room for me to be Luna. Especially now that I’m pregnant.”

She cradled her stomach with pride.

Amelia froze.

Pregnant?

Aiden had been cheating on her?

He had been sleeping with her?

Tears welled up in her eyes.

Just then, the door opened again.

“What are you doing here?” Tracy snapped at Sofia.

“Do not address me like that,” Sofia sneered.

“I’m going to be Luna of this pack.”

“In your dreams,” Tracy spat, glaring.

Sofia scoffed and stormed out.

Tracy turned to Amelia.

“The audacity of that woman… I hate her so much,” she hissed, then noticed Amelia’s blank stare.

“What happened? I saw Aiden rush out, and then found you unconscious. I had to call the healer.”

Amelia’s eyes brimmed with unshed tears.

“We broke the mating bond. He rejected me. I accepted.”

“What?” Tracy gasped.

Amelia turned to the dressing table, picked up the divorce paper, and signed it with trembling hands.

“What are you doing?” Tracy asked.

Amelia ignored her. She walked to the wardrobe and began packing her clothes.

“Amelia?” Tracy asked again.

Amelia turned to her, eyes hollow.

“There’s no place for me here anymore. My daughter is gone. The bond is gone. Sofia is pregnant. I’m leaving.”

“What about the baby?”

“He doesn’t have to know. I won’t tell him. And I hope you won’t either.”

She zipped her bag and looked at Tracy.

“Promise me. Don’t tell anyone. Not even James.”

Tracy hesitated.

“But Amelia—”

“Please. Promise me.”

Tracy swallowed.

“I promise.”

Amelia picked up her bag and headed toward the door, but Tracy blocked her.

“You can’t leave now, Amelia. You need rest, it’s too dangerous.”

“I’ll be fine. I’ll call you once I’m settled. If anyone asks, say you don’t know where I am.”

And with that, Amelia walked out of the house and out of the pack.

A few maids saw her go. Some people in the pack house did too.

She boarded a taxi and didn’t look back.

She had wanted to go to her parents’ house but wasn’t sure she’d be welcomed.

They had warned her. They had never liked Aiden’s family, old wounds ran deep.

But she had nowhere else to go.

The taxi pulled up in front of a house that felt like a memory.

She stepped out and paid the driver.

She stood there, staring at the house she grew up in.

She smiled sadly. She missed this place more than she could say.

She walked to the front door and paused.

Something inside her screamed “Don’t.”

But she pushed it down and knocked.

A moment later, the door opened and there stood Gloria, her sister.

“Amelia? What are you doing here this late?” Gloria’s eyes darted to the luggage.

Amelia didn’t answer.

“Gloria, who’s at the door?” came a familiar voice.

Her mother.

A moment later, her mama appeared beside Gloria.

“Amelia…” her voice cracked with emotion.

“Mama…” Amelia choked out, tears already falling.

Her mother didn’t say a word. She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around her daughter.

Amelia broke, sobbing into her mother’s embrace. She needed that hug more than anything.

But the moment was shattered when their father appeared at the door.

“Amelia.”

They pulled apart quickly.

Amelia lowered her head.

“Father…”

His voice was harsh.

“What are you doing in my house? Your beloved Alpha threw you out?”

He scoffed, eyes narrowing on the luggage.

“And the first place you thought of coming was here?” he sneered.

“Get the hell out of my house, Amelia or you’ll regret the day I became your father.”

Ocean Moon pack!

Amelia sat on the couch in the living room, her hands clutched tightly in her lap as she faced her sister’s cold glare.

From the hallway, her parents’ voices echoed, raised, sharp, and furious.

“She’s not staying in my house. She should go back to her Alpha husband!” her father, Greg, growled.

“She’s not leaving!” her mother fired back. “She’s my daughter, and I won’t let her go in this condition. If you insist on throwing her out, I’ll leave with her.”

Suddenly, silence. The argument stopped. Only the ticking of the clock filled the heavy air.

“This is your fault,” Gloria spat from across the room, arms crossed tightly. “The only time Mom and Dad ever fought like this was when you chose to marry Aiden.”

Amelia looked down, guilt clenching her chest. “I… I didn’t have anywhere else to go,” she whispered.

“You should’ve slept on the street.”

“Gloria!” their mother’s voice cut like a whip. Gloria’s eyes flared, but she stayed silent.

“You shouldn’t be harsh to your sister. She’s family,” Evelyn said gently as she entered the room. Gloria scoffed, stood, and left the room, leaving Amelia and her mother alone.

Evelyn moved closer and sat beside her, the soft concern in her eyes making Amelia’s heart ache.

“Amelia, honey… how are you feeling?”

Amelia glanced at her mother. She remembered how she’d defied her to marry Aiden. She’d expected anger… resentment. But instead, there was only warmth.

Mothers never stop loving. No matter how broken, no matter the mistakes.

“I feel better, Mom,” she lied. Her voice was soft, barely audible.

Evelyn didn’t press. She only gave a small smile and brushed a hand gently through Amelia’s hair.

“Are you hungry, honey?”

“No… I’m fine.” Amelia dropped her gaze, her fingers fiddling with the edge of her dress.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I made you and Dad argue. I’ll leave tomorrow morning.”

Her mother’s hand stilled. “Honey, your father loves you. He’s just angry. You can stay as long as you need to.”

Amelia nodded. A long silence passed before her mother gently asked, “What happened, sweetheart? How’s Eva?”

At the mention of her daughter, Amelia’s heart shattered all over again. Pain clutched her chest. Eva’s laughter, her tiny hands, gone.

Her mother didn’t know.

“Eva is dead.”

Evelyn froze. Her eyes widened in horror.

“What? How? What happened?”

“She was poisoned.”

“What?” Evelyn gasped. “What’s Aiden doing? Is he trying to find out who poisoned her?”

Amelia didn’t speak. Tears rolled down her cheeks. Her throat closed in. She swallowed hard, trying to force down the sobs.

“He thinks I poisoned her,” she finally whispered. “He broke the bond. Rejected me. We’re divorced because of Sofia.”

Evelyn’s heart sank. Her arms wrapped around her daughter without hesitation.

Sofia.

“She’s back? His ex?”

Amelia nodded.

Evelyn exhaled. Her voice wavered with sadness. “He left Sofia for you… I suppose it shouldn’t be a surprise that he’d leave you for her.” She paused, then shook her head.

This isn’t the time to talk about what could’ve been. All her daughter needed at this moment was comfort.

She pulled Amelia into a deep embrace, holding her tightly as her daughter cried.

After a long time, Amelia’s breathing softened. Her mother helped her upstairs, drew her a warm bath, and tucked her into bed.

The next morning, Amelia woke up feeling heavy and weak. The scent of her childhood home comforted her. She looked around the familiar room, once her safe haven. She remembered nights curled in bed next to her mother, afraid of storms or nightmares, how the fear would vanish in her arms.

She slipped out of bed, took a bath, and dressed simply. Just as she was tying her hair, the door opened.

Her mother walked in with a tray of food, smiling gently.

“Good morning, Mom,” Amelia said quietly.

“Good morning, honey. I hope you’re feeling better?” Evelyn placed the tray on the bed.

Amelia gave a small nod and began eating. She hadn’t realized how hungry she was. She hadn’t eaten since leaving the hospital after Eva’s death.

Her mother sat beside her, watching.

“Amelia… are you pregnant?”

Amelia froze. Slowly, she looked up and nodded.

Evelyn’s shoulders dropped in a soft sigh. She’d suspected. And she knew her husband would never allow Amelia to stay now. Especially not with Aiden’s child. And if Aiden found out where she was…

She had to protect her daughter.

“I know your father is angry. But don’t worry I’ve made arrangements,” she said gently. “A friend of mine in Ocean Moon Pack has helped you get a place. Once you’re settled, she’ll help you find a job too.”

Amelia looked at her mother with teary eyes. “Thank you…”

But as she said it, the warmth in her chest faded, replaced by a growing unease.

Ocean Moon Pack is ruled by one of the deadliest alphas alive and they are rivals with Aiden. Going there was like a death sentence.

Her heart sank.

I have a job for you!

It was morning and a new day. Aiden, who had left the house the night before, finally returned home.

He had walked away after rejecting Amelia, and she had accepted it without hesitation. He hadn’t expected her to, not that easily. But she surprised him. She didn’t fight. She let him go just like that.

A painful surge ran through his chest as he stood frozen at the entrance, staring into the house. The maids moved about silently, but none dared speak to him.

He could almost see Eva running into his arms like she always did when he came back from work. He closed his eyes, willing the image away, and forced himself inside. Slowly, he made his way up the stairs.

He passed Eva’s room and paused.

His hand hovered over the doorknob. For a moment, he hesitated but then, without thinking, he pushed the door open.

He stepped in, his eyes scanning the room. Everything was still in place. Her toys. Her bed. Her tiny shoes. Her books. A soft pink sweater lay folded at the edge of her pillow.

Tears welled in his eyes.

Eva had always been a daddy’s girl. Everything Aiden liked was what she loved. She was his little twin, the light of his life, and he had failed her.

She died eating food his own wife had prepared. The thought made him sick.

He crouched, picking up her sweater. He brought it close to his nose, inhaling the scent. A sob escaped his throat, and he shut his eyes briefly, trying to block out the guilt tearing through him.

She was supposed to be the future Alpha. He and Amelia had stopped trying for more kids after the complications. Eva was his world.

Now she was gone.

He wiped his tears quickly and stood, exiting the room like a ghost, then stepped into the master bedroom.

The moment he opened the door, he froze.

The closet was wide open, Amelia’s side of the wardrobe was empty.

She was gone.

Reality crashed down on him like a wave. His chest tightened as he looked around the room, still soaked in her scent. His wolf whimpered inside, broken, refusing to speak to him since the rejection. The pain was unbearable.

He collapsed onto the bed, dragging a hand through his hair. Maybe it was for the best. After all… she killed Eva. Didn’t she?

He didn’t want to believe it, but everything pointed at her. Amelia had cooked the meal that poisoned their daughter. No one else was around.

And Sofia… Sofia had been right all along. Amelia had sent men to kill her after they got married. She survived. Now she tried to kill their daughter and she didn’t.

He didn’t want to believe Sofia had first, but he had done some investigations and found out Amelia had sent money to a strange account when they got married. He realized it was the payment for the men she sent to kill Sofia. He sighed.

At least it was over. At least Amelia was gone.

He stood up, heading for the bathroom to wash off the grief, when a paper on the dresser caught his attention.

He picked it up. His heart dropped.

Divorce papers.

Her signature was clear. Final. She really left. She didn’t look back.

A loud growl escaped his throat, and he tore the document in half, then into shreds. His hands trembled with rage.

But something else caught his eye. Another paper sat beside it.

He reached for it, confused — and the moment he read it, his entire body froze.

It was a pregnancy test result.

Amelia was pregnant.

His breath caught in his throat. He just stood there, staring. His fingers tightened around the paper.

Amelia is pregnant. With his child.

His mind spun. She never told him. But then he remembered, that night she decorated the room, the candles, the flowers, the excitement in her voice. She was trying to tell him.

He didn’t listen.

He rejected her.

He had thrown her out, broken her, thinking she murdered their daughter, while she carried their next child.

Aiden let out a shaky breath as guilt consumed him.

He pulled out his phone, immediately dialing James.

“Alpha?” came James’s voice on the other end.

“James,” Aiden’s voice cracked, “I need you to find my wife.”

There was a pause. “What wife, Alpha?”

“Amelia. My Luna.”

“You have to be joking, or drunk. Aiden, you rejected her. You asked for a divorce. She’s gone.”

“I know,” Aiden said quickly. “I know… but I made a mistake. She’s pregnant, James. She’s carrying my baby.”

“What?” James sounded stunned.

“She never told me. And now she’s gone. I need you to find her. Please.”

“I don’t know where she went after she left, Aiden…”

“She can’t have gone far. She might be at her parents’ house. Send guards there. Inform the head of security. I want her found and safe.”

He ended the call and rushed out of the house.

Just as he stepped outside, he ran into Sofia.

“Aiden,” she blinked. “What are you doing? You left me alone at the hotel.”

“I’m sorry. This isn’t the time, Sofia. I have to find my wife.”

“Your wife? Amelia? You rejected her, remember?”

“I know. And I regret it. She’s pregnant.”

Sofia’s expression froze.

“She’s carrying my child,” Aiden said, brushing past her. He jumped into his car and sped off.

Sofia stood rooted to the spot.

Amelia is pregnant?

No. That couldn’t happen. If Aiden found her, if the truth came out… Sofia would lose everything.

She pulled out her phone, fingers trembling with fury.

“Dante,” she said coldly into the phone. “I have a job for you.”
