Chapter 1
Giordano Pellegrini, my Underboss husband, is swamped with work every day.
In order to make sure that he can attend my birthday party, I've pre-booked two hours of his time half a year in advance.
But the moment Giordano arrives at the party venue, he receives a message on his communicator.
"Honey, someone has blocked a shipment of firearms. I need to deal with that matter right now. Next time, I'll celebrate your birthday properly with you."
Our son, Fabiano Pellegrini, follows Giordano out of the venue as well.
"Dad and I will deal with this matter. We'll also make it up to you with another birthday gift next time."
Despite feeling a little disappointed, the emergency did come all of a sudden, so I can only nod in acceptance.
But once Giordano and Fabiano leave, I secretly stalk them.
I'd like to see which idiot dares to block the ship owned by me, the Donna of this mafia family.
Also, I'm interested to see what sort of solution Giordano and Fabiano can come up with. After all, Giordano is only an Underboss in name.
After Giordano Pellegrini got into the car with our son, Fabiano Pellegrini, he didn't drive off immediately. It wasn't until a truck carrying 10,000 roses arrived that Giordano finally left.
But he didn't head for the ferry dock. Instead, he drove straight back home.
The villa was brightly lit, and the front garden was packed with people. I felt a pang of confusion. Were they planning a surprise for me? But when I reached the main hall, I saw Giordano holding a woman dressed in a white gown.
Even Fabiano, who had never been close to me, was smiling brightly as he called her "Mom".
The woman was none other than Carina Perrotta, the university student I had personally rescued from the mountains. She had nowhere else to go, so I had brought her into the Pellegrini household, given her a job, and let her live and eat under my roof. But recently, she had suddenly vanished without a trace.
I had searched all over the Costa Solara for her, yet she seemed to have disappeared completely. And now, she was here, entangled with Giordano. As they appeared, the crowd murmured in admiration.
"I've long heard that Mrs. Pellegrini is virtuous. She not only supports Mr. Pellegrini in business but also keeps the family in perfect order."
"This is the first time Mr. Pellegrini has brought Mrs. Pellegrini out with Fabiano. I would keep a woman like her to myself if I were him."
"Mr. Pellegrini is truly lucky."
At the center of the crowd, Giordano held Carina close at the waist, drinking in their praise.
"Of course, having Carina by my side is a blessing I've earned over ten lifetimes. Now that she is expecting, I look forward to everyone celebrating with us and sharing in my son's joy."
Carina stared at him, touched to the core. However, I felt a chill crawl through my veins.
I couldn't hold back any longer and charged forward. Fabiano's eyes widened in fear as he bolted behind Giordano.
"Why are you here?" he stammered.
I let out a cold laugh. "What, can't I be here? Am I ruining your little party?"
Giordano's gaze betrayed a hint of guilt. Just as he was about to speak, Carina stepped in front of him, looking at me with tears in her eyes.
"Arianna, if you have something to say, say it to me. Don't make things hard for them."
I sneered and slapped her across the face. "Who do you think you are? You don't get to call me by my name. I took you in, not so you could come out here and play the homewrecker!"
The crowd below drew in a sharp breath, staring at me with a mix of shock and sympathy.
"Who in their right mind would hit Mrs. Pellegrini? Don't they know what Mr. Pellegrini can do?"
"A while back, a low-ranking man insulted her and was sent to the Dark Zone. He was tortured for three days and nights, and not long after, he went insane and ended his own life."
"She must have a death wish to lay a hand on the pregnant Mrs. Pellegrini!"
I ignored their taunts and turned my gaze to Giordano. "Do you also think I shouldn't have hit her?"
Giordano grabbed my hand, frowning deeply as he looked at me.
Before he could say a word, Fabiano lunged forward and shoved me. "Get out! You're not welcome here! Don't come near our family!"
Chapter 2
"So you're a family now?" I asked, looking at them with hurt in my eyes.
Fabiano was my child, born after hours of excruciating labor and near-fatal bleeding. He had once claimed I was the one he loved most.
As I met his hatred-filled gaze, I felt a pain so sharp it almost choked me. I said, "You say you're a family, then what does that make me?'"
Fabiano froze, and a flicker of guilt crossed his face.
Carina suddenly buried her face in her hands and began to cry.
"Arianna, I risked my life in the mountains to save you from those men who attacked you, welcomed you into the Pellegrini family, gave you a home and a job, and yet I never thought you would carry feelings for Giordano, much less try to interfere in someone else's marriage."
Giordano's expression darkened, and he jabbed a finger at me. "Carina is kind and forgiving. You can forget it. In this life, I will only ever love her. Leave at once, or don't blame me for showing no mercy for what you just did to my wife."
Rage and disbelief surged in my ears. They were stealing my identity, trying to make everyone believe Carina was me. I looked at Fabiano, but he quickly averted his eyes.
"Stop it! She's my mom!" he blurted.
Whispers and murmurs rose from the crowd.
"This woman has gone insane, trying to claim everything for herself."
"When has a son ever denied his real mother? She's just here to cause trouble."
"She's shameless. I bet she's jealous seeing how well Mr. Pellegrini treats Mrs. Pellegrini. She must be seething inside."
Out of nowhere, they accused me of scheming and being a homewrecker.
I laughed bitterly through my fury. "Carina, don't you remember? When I pulled you out of danger, you were on your knees, begging me not to tell a soul. I gave you shelter, work, and you swore to repay me.
"And this is how you repay me? By stealing my identity, seducing my husband, and making my own son call you mom?"
The crowd didn't believe me. Instead, they rushed to Carina's defense.
"Enough of this act! Apologize to Mrs. Pellegrini, and maybe there's still a way to fix this."
"Mr. and Mrs. Pellegrini have weathered hardships together since they were young. Everyone in Cyclone knows how virtuous she is."
"This woman has no sense of shame at all. Her thirst for power is ridiculous. Just apologize and get out of here!"
Weathered hardships together since they were young?
My fury boiled over. Just as I was about to tell the truth, a fat, greasy man stepped forward and grabbed my wrist.
"I might be beneath Mr. Pellegrini, but I'm still a Capo here," Patrizio Vinci said with a greasy grin. I've seen your type plenty of times. You're just trying to climb higher."
He stroked my wrist. "Don't worry, I'll show you a good time. If you please me, I'll let you be my 88th woman."
He started groping me, ripping at my clothes. I screamed for help, but it only drew more catcalls.
"Mr. Vinci is really going all out. Is he planning to deal with her right here?"
"Don't kill her yet. Save her for me. She's got a decent figure."
Their leering eyes locked on me.
I shouted, "Giordano, we've been married for seven years! When I met you, you were just a poor waiter at a restaurant. I recommended you join Cyclone, the top mafia family in Costa Solara.
"I even helped you recruit men, run the business, and manage the accounts. I've never wronged you, and this is how you repay me?"
I turned to Fabiano. "Tell me, what did I ever do to deserve you calling someone else your mother?"
Chapter 3
Giordano's face darkened. "Stop spouting nonsense. My wife is only Carina."
Fabiano sneered. "Do you think you deserve to be my mother?"
I forced a bitter smile, feeling my strength seep away as my body trembled.
Carina chuckled lightly upon hearing my words. "Giordano got to the position of Underboss on his own. Arianna, stop glorifying yourself. Do you really think you're that remarkable?"
On his own?
Giordano couldn't even handle a gun properly. How dare he say he got here all on his own?
If not for my affection and the doors I opened for him in Cyclone, he wouldn't have made it past anyone's notice with his pathetic skills.
I had assigned him crucial but low-risk tasks, allowing him to climb the ranks quietly, and within just a few years, he had become Underboss.
Of course, I didn't give him real control. The task of smuggling weapons and managing an mafia family was far beyond him.
Giordano's expression darkened. "I thought your love for me was just too much, but now it looks like you've lost your mind."
The guests started murmuring in agreement.
"Yeah, she's lost her mind. Besides, it's always been Mrs. Pellegrini by Mr. Pellegrini's side all these years. Who does she think she is?"
Giordano lifted his chin, looking down at me with disdain. "I had intended to let you leave with some dignity, but since you're so ungrateful and even dare to slander me…"
He lifted a hand, and his men rushed in at once. "Trespassing comes with consequences. Bring the whip."
They grabbed me roughly and shoved me to my knees. No matter how hard I fought, it was useless. I clenched my teeth and met his eyes. "You'll regret this."
"You dare talk back to me?"
Giordano's expression hardened. Fabiano kicked me in the side without hesitation.
Carina covered her mouth and laughed softly. "How about this? Apologize to me on your knees, and I'll convince them to show a little mercy."
I spat, "Never!"
Carina immediately broke into sobs and buried herself in Giordano's embrace.
He murmured comforting words to her, but when he looked at me, all that remained in his eyes was cold indifference.
"Give her 100 lashes, not a single one less. One million dollars to whoever makes her cry."
The crowd burst into cheers, and my heart sank straight to the bottom.
I gasped for breath and glared at them. "Let me go. What you're doing is illegal."
They sneered and closed in.
I had no choice but to reveal my identity.
"I am the Donna," I shouted. "If you harm me, my Soldati will make sure none of you leave here alive."
The crowd erupted in laughter.
Giordano looked at me with disdain. "I've served under the Don for years and never once heard of him being a woman. How dare you impersonate him, and worse, insult his name? I'll punish you as if I were carrying out his will."
I went pale as paper, summoning every ounce of strength to shove him away. I tore open my collar, revealing the massive tattoo on my chest.
The crowd gasped in unison.
"Could it really be…"
"That tattoo… It's exactly like the one the Don has. Could it always be a Donna? And could she really be the Donna?"
Giordano froze, then looked me over with a sharp sneer. "Arianna, you're not finished, are you? When did you get that tattoo? It wasn't there before."
I gritted my teeth against the pain and snapped back, "How do you know whether I had it before? Did you see it? It has nothing to do with you!"
His eyes turned icy, and he pressed his lips into a thin line. The room fell into a tense, suffocating silence.
Just then, Carina yanked off her dress, revealing a tattoo on her chest that was exactly like mine.
