Chapter 2

I did not expect Zac to only think about the company at this point in time.

I could no longer see the man that I loved in him anymore.

Before I completely lost it, Heather took out a jewelry box from her bag and put it in front of me.

“Mrs. Davis, Mr. Davis bought this for you yesterday. Please don’t be angry anymore. Whatever he does is for this family.”

After she said that, I noticed the ring on her finger.

It was from the same brand as the jewelry box.

I was infuriated. I immediately threw the tiny box away from me.

The item fell out of the box.

Zac was shocked by the huge thud. He stared at me in disbelief.

“Sloan, what’s wrong with you today? What did Manny tell you? Can you really just believe in a kid’s words? How much longer are you going to throw a tantrum just because of last night’s news?”

My eyes were cold when I looked up.

He still thought that I was angry about the trending topic online.

He did not even care about our son’s death!

“I don’t need Manny to tell me anything. I can see for myself! Zac, do you really think that you can make a fool out of me just because I love you?

“Since you feel that Manny is hindering your business, you should just sign the divorce papers! We won’t ever show up in front of you after this. You will be free from us!”

Heather rushed toward me and wanted to grab my arm.

I slapped her hand away.

“Sloan, I’m giving you another chance to rethink what you’ve just said. Do you know what you’re saying?”

I turned around under Zac’s glare and packed my luggage before leaving.

His eyes turned colder at my actions.

“Fine, since you’ve already packed your bags, get lost! I don’t want to see you ever again!

“If you step out of this door today, don’t you ever think about coming back!”

This was not his first time saying something like this.

He thought that this was just like all the previous times when I was acting up due to jealousy.

He thought that he would see me when he woke up the next day with a home-cooked meal as an apology to him. He would not need to apologize to end the cold war.

But I was very clear that this was my very last straw.

Zac and I were together for ten years and had been married for six of them.

Before we got married, we were the ideal couple in everyone’s eyes.

We did everything together back when we were students.

Our camaraderie and mutual love was sincere.

Back then, to grab a seat at the library at 6:00 a.m., Zac would purposely wake up earlier at 5:00 a.m. to buy me breakfast.

He would then pretend to bump into me at my place before we headed to the library together.

He would ask the teacher to put our seats together.

To get closer to me, he had made a promise to the teacher that he would improve his grades.

After some hesitation, the teacher agreed to his request.

From then on, he started studying very hard.

After his results came out, it showed that he had improved a lot. The teacher was no longer worried that he would be distracted.

We became the best study partners.

All of our classmates were envious of us.

Before our final exams, he stood before my house and looked at me very seriously.

“I know my family is not rich, but I will work hard for our future.

“Sloan, wait for me.”

I was extremely touched when I heard this.

I hid this relationship from my family.

After we graduated, I immediately brought him to meet my parents.

In order to marry him, I went against my parents’ wishes for the first time in my life.

None of my family members showed up at my wedding.

He stared at me genuinely as he said softly, “From now on, I’m your family. No matter when, I’d always be here for you.”

Chapter 3

After that, Zac did as he promised. He was there whenever I needed him.

He was there until his business grew bigger, and he started to get busier.

He was there until Heather appeared in his life.

He was there until we had our first big fight because of Heather.

It was hard to repair a relationship that was already broken.

If there was someone else in a relationship, it was hard to mend it anymore.

The year Manny was born was the toughest year for the company.

I was completely alone during my pregnancy, and I even went into labor alone.

I only gave him a call when I was about to give birth.

However, Heather was the one who answered.

Her soft voice said, “Mrs. Davis, Mr. Davis is in a business meeting. He’s unable to talk to you right now. If you have anything urgent, I can pass the message on to him.”

I bore the pain of contractions and bit my tongue when I heard Zac’s sigh over the phone.

After I ended the call, a notification popped onto my phone screen.

It was a receipt from a hotel.

That was the first time someone had taken photos of Zac and Heather at a hotel.

I had just given birth to Manny when the paparazzo asked for a million dollars in exchange for the photos.

I paid for it.

I finanly realized I was wrong from the start.

That was only the start of all the pain and suffering I had to go through.

I finally woke up from this nightmare on the day I lost my son.

I was alone when I brought Manny into this world, and I was alone when I sent him away.

After I left home, I did not dare to go back to my parents.

I could only rent a room as I took Manny’s ashes with me.

I got Zac’s assistant to make an appointment at the funeral parlor.

I ordered myself some food and stayed at home for two days.

On the third day, when I was about to leave for the appointment at the funeral parlor, someone was slamming on my door.

The urn carrying Manny’s ashes almost fell out of my hands.

I immediately stood up and checked the urn. I only let out a sigh of relief when I noticed it was fine.

Zac yelled angrily, “Did you take Manny away? Ask him to come out now!”

I frowned as his bodyguards started to search my house.

After a while, everyone regrouped in the living room again.

They all shook their heads at Zac.

He immediately looked angry.

His eyes were red as he glared at me.

He yelled, “Where’s Manny?”

Heather walked in and immediately stopped him upon seeing this sight.

“Mr. Davis, please calm down. Don’t fight with Mrs. Davis. You’ve been married for so many years…”

Before she could finish her words, I stood up and spat in her face.

“I don’t need your sympathy! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have ended up like this today!”

After I said that, Zac grabbed my hair angrily.

I grimaced from the pain.

But he did not see the pain in my face. He said coldly, “Just because of your jealousy, you influenced Manny to ruin my business. Why are you still pretending to be innocent in front of me? Am I being too lenient with you?”

I grit my teeth, but I could not stop the tears.

“What Manny does is none of your concern! You don’t have the right to say anything about it! Zac, the thing that I regret the most in my entire life is going against my family’s wishes and marrying you! I was blind!”

Initially, I wanted to send him a text message to let him be a part of the funeral services.

I did not think there was a need for that anymore.

He never cared about Manny at all.

Upon hearing my words, Zac was even angrier.

He raised his hand and wanted to slap me.
